  1. Actually I was hoping to lead them on into expecting which tactics to use, so that they'd adapt to them, then we could slip under and use something completely unothodox.. like the old "random delivery shipment of Vagrants" routine Aha, now they must be scratching their heads.. "Does he want us to think that he's tricking us, or is he tricking us right now?" they must be asking themselves.. enough to ream their heads into walls and possibly render them unconscious! UWA HAHAHAHAHAHHAH! *Cough* Er, where'd I keep my space suit again? ------------------ Cmdr. 2. True point Dark, but as I say, if you're gonna put it in there, at least try and do a good job.. heh. ------------------ Cmdr. 3. Well, since this is starting to turn into a "rate Terminus demo" thread, I may as well post my 0.02 After devouring massive loads of crack, I decided it would be a good idea to re-install it again and maybe get a look at how good it really was (yeah, after what just happened, I'm still crazy enough to re-install it). And thus far, all I can say that even _I_ could probably throw together better voice acting with my $2 microphone from Radio Shack! And those graphics need some serious work... man! ------------------ Cmdr. 4. Thanks for your help everyone.. fortunately, I believe I've managed to fix the problem. Unfortunately, I now need to re-install just about every program I use on a normal basis.. bleh! SC: Thanks for the link, I'm gonna nab that program shortly and keep it handy. As for posting it here, I know how well you guys all are with trouble shooting, so.. hehe. Although I AM presently throwing together a hefty complaint to post on their forums.. if this is just what the demo did, I'm afraid to install the full version! Of course, it could have just been some critical failure resulting from my blatantly overloaded registry that somehow collapsed everything after loading just ONE more program in there.. but either way, I managed to fix it by re-installing Win98 over my present installation, so I'm back and kicking now. Thanks for all your assistance everyone! ...Now to start razzing for that CD burner so I can back up everything... I've only got 400 megs free on this 10 gig HD! Sad, I know ... Lock the thread if you desire, I'll store all the responses I got here just in-case this happens again, which I'm hoping it won't ------------------ Cmdr. 5. Well, either this was co-incidental with a regular Windows 98 SE fu**-up (pardon the bluntness, I'm a tad pissy) or Vicarious Visions just set themselves up to recieve an earful from me... either way, here's my problem. Nabbed the Terminus demo that was released this morning.. just finished downloading as of 30 minutes ago, so I installed it, configured it, and ran it. Went through a self-playing demo for a bit... then crashed mysteriously at the end with first an illegal op in the program itself, then an error in Kernel32.dll (module User.Dll or something if I remember right). No problem, happens occasionally, reboot right? Wrong. Restarted my comp, and it brought up the startup listing (the thing that pops up when you hit F8 when it says "Starting Windows 98...") stating at the bottom that there was an error detected in my registry/configuration and to boot up from the Command prompt and run scanreg.exe. This was where I started to get a tad concerned. Hit "Normal Startup", let it load.. then it informed me that "Registry Services will be inoperative". My "WTF?" synapses were firing.. and then they went into overload as Windows proudly informed me the following: "While initializing device VKD: Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer. Error: Could not execute SBECFG.EXE Press any key to continue...." Pressing any key resulted in my computer switching itself off. Upon rebooting a second time, it gave me the same error on the startup menu. I hit "Command Prompt Only" this time, booted into DOS, and ran Scanreg per it asking. I ran through the process (which seemed to consist of little more than backing up my configuration, which doesn't help me because my current configuration is classified as "completely fux0red") and then dumped me at a prompt again. Shrugging, I rebooted for a third time. Gave me the same startup menu error yet AGAIN. Hit "Normal", and this time it ran Scanreg on it's own, and proceeded to fail to boot up again with the same errors. GARGH! This is really cheesing me off, because I've got all my important crap on there, and being unable to even get into Windows via Safe mode (tried it) isn't very good for my day. I also tried manually booting up from my Windows 98 CD (you can tell it to boot from the CD in your BIOS on a lot of systems), no go. I've tried a boot disk, didn't do anything.. since it boots me into DOS. I'm considering just re-installing over top of my current installation, but that's a last resort presently.. I'm not exactly up to wanting to corrupt something important and being forced to format my HD or something.... heh. So, I turn to you guys. My resident "Can fix anything I damn want to" tech expert is out at the moment, and I'd really like to get back and going with this system.. I'm presently typing from my older P233, with my mom's Ergonomic keyboard that's stressing my hands to hell and back again Not to mention the lack of a Razer Boomslang 2000 is just plain nuts! So, anyways, I'll await your replies.. hopefully someone can offer something helpful.. heh. Do it for me guys! Do it for the Insurgency! Yes, even if you're Galcom... *evil psychotic laughter* Thanks. Oh, and apologies if I sound a tad incoherent, but it's not every day that your best friend in the whole world suddenly "stops working" Edit: Oh, before I forget, SBECFG.Exe is a part of the DOS driver for my SB Live! Value. ------------------ Cmdr. 6. Well, should we ever fall under siege, you can be sure I'll be there to back everyone up and follow orders like a good soldier Come on guys, who's with me? Are you all man, no, Insurgent enough to keep your cool and follow orders from the higher-ups in the midst of combat? As in, if you're asked to move to a given waypoint that will help cut off the enemy flanking maneuvers around New America, you'll go "how fast?", not "I'm too heavily engaged!", correct? Because even if there's about 40 Vagrants closing in, if someone wants me in a certain position, damnit, I'll move there, even if all I have left is a burning hulk when I arrive! ....Wait, that wouldn't actually be too useful... but, you get my point Discipline is everything guys, rogue commanders in the midst of battle doesn't help us at all. ------------------ Cmdr. 7. I just came back from the theatres myself after seeing it (also after screaming loudly "Ahhh! The light, the light!" when first going outside) and I personally give it my "L33t liek Jeff K." award, truely a prestigous honor! Hell, from the previews I saw it almost looked like it was anime.. do yourself a favor people and go check it out, even if it means you have to step out under the cursed thing in the sky known as "the sun" ------------------ Cmdr. 8. They're small enough to be mistaken as postage stamps, but they're pictures, so I'm happy Thanks Rattler! ------------------ Cmdr. 9. So, uh, who's the guy that brought the camera along, and when do us unfortunate non-attending saps get to see the pictures? ------------------ Cmdr. 10. Well, I've got a copy coming in, and you can be pretty sure I'll be at the very least giving BC3k a passing mention in my review ------------------ Cmdr. 11. I write fiction, code HTML, fiddle with my joystick, and make occasional trips to the fridge.. oh, and I've mastered the fine art of sitting through the entire day Aside from being on the computer, that's about all I do... ------------------ Cmdr. 12. Welcome to the world of System Shock Rippen! I happen to have the original System Shock sitting around.. alas, I've had some troubles getting the sound working, and it's the floppy version, but if you want it (and I'd imagine you do, it's a freaking classic) give me a yell on ICQ (1293359) and I'll see if I can send it to ya. Most stores probably don't even have it in stock anymore, so I'd imagine it'd be a smidgen difficult to purchase it normally without breaking your neck from being on the phone so much.. Oh, and if you're ever up for a multiplayer co-op game of SS2 sometime, give me a yell, I'll see if I can yank up 400 megs of room to get this baby installed. ------------------ Cmdr. HELP!

I believe this issue has been covered a few times before, so be sure to check previous threads. ------------------ Cmdr. 14. Well Dama, you could always go check out the fiction series I started at powerpub.net (Bestia in Mutatio).. of course, it's a tad difficult to do that without being on the computer.. How exactly did you end up in this situation in the first place? I generally pass out if I'm away from the comp for more than 2 hours.. sleep non-withstanding ------------------ Cmdr. Parias Spectre Fleet Chief Engineer, Starstation Destiny ICV-Galatae ICQ:1293359 Staff member at HardNews "Next time you're passing by and feel like dropping in, keep passing by untill you get to a river, and THEN drop in." -Jake Logan

  18. Actually SC, Klingon Academy isn't gold yet, but it's expected to be done some time this month... *defty leaps into a nearby duct to avoid being shoved out the airlock* And anyways, if it was gold, you'd definately know, because the developers would be publicly complaining about me constantly pestering them for a review copy.. Speaking of review copies, I've got one of Terminus coming in, so I'll be sure to let you all know of my impressions once the ever-lovable Fed-Ex guy shows up. Tachyon.. got a copy of that too, and I really enjoyed it. Took me a couple of days to beat, as for Starlancer, I hear people beat it in a single day and that it only has 24 missions.. bleh! Haven't really heard much about Vanguard before.. probably because I'm lazy From what I'm hearing here though, sorry to see it canned.. ------------------ Cmdr. 21. Woa woa Bumper, hang on a minute! Not to get off-topic of the purpose of the thread or something, but I haven't heard of any error in Windows Explorer that would force you to have to format your hard drive... and doing that is a pretty serious thing! What exactly happened there? ------------------ Cmdr. 24. Lum the Mad is great! Although I got a little confused at first, since he's named after my favorite anime chick, which opened up a few questions of mine.. of course, I quickly learned the true source of his name As for Jeff K, for those not in the know, he was actually a creation by Lowtax to be a spoof on the average day l33t h@x0r d00d. Eventually his popularity grew to an all-time high, and before he knew it, he was doing actual interviews with game developers! Heh, he's got a few posted on the site if you look around.. funny stuff. ------------------ Cmdr.
