  1. Thanks for the info GMAN. And thanks to you lot about my girlfriend troubles. Anyway, since I'm a total stud muffin, I wont have any trouble with getting a replacement if I so want one, although I am attempting to come to some sort of arrangement with my ex. Wish me luck! Anyway, thats seriously off topic. In the last couple of weeks, our recruitment officer commander GMAN has been successful in luring three new commanders away from temptation and into the heaving chest of the Orion Fleet. Congratulations that man. By monday, my ISP problems should be sorted so I should be able to upload their details onto the OWS for all to see. Oh, and since this pushes our active members over the 9 mark, it also means I'll be commisioning a new Battle Group over the next few days. So far, Commanders GMAN, Foss and Bosch are in consideration for the lead flight of that Battle Group. Commander Hamblin, like myself, will probably be flitting between Battle Groups during engagements in BCM, and will have the authority to usurp command from the existing group leader. As before, during times when I will not be participating in BC:M, Hamblin will command the TSB from his own ship as well as coordinating efforts with the other groups. He is, in effect, the Fleet Commander when I'm not about. I'll make my descision public within the next few days. ------------------ F.C KARL 'BLADES' SAVAGE ORION FLEET TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP GCV - TSUNAMI Ôäó www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'For Queen and country'
  2. You know me, I like things to be nice and ordered. As such, I agree that there should probably be a unified structure within the fleets for engagements such as Tac described. However, before we start breaking up the Fleet members into how every many different strike forces/task groups/wings etc, we have to take into account the actual number of participants there are likely to be for multiplayer encounters. Every fleet in the game has hundreds of members, but only really has a handful of participating members within. When BC:M comes along, this will change but the numbers of players being able to participate on a given server are going to be limited. With both those points in mind, I (On behalf of the Orion Fleet) decided to commision seperate Battle Groups that participating players would be assigned to. The size of each group would be limited to 9 ships, with a single responsible commander taking overall control of that battle group and subject to the orders of the Fleet Commander. This way, it's possible to have spechalisation within any fleet with each of it's Battle Groups. For example, the Tsunami Battle Group (Lead ship being the BG naming convention) will spechalise in Heavy Assault engagements, which basically means blowing up starstations and the such (Good for us trigger happy sorts who have issues with subtlety) while another Battle Group (Undecided as of yet) would spechalise in, say, system sieges and the like. Anyway, I just mentioned this here as another alternative to the varied structures we could put together. Whatever is done, it does need to be unified IMHO. Reckon us Fleet Leader types should get together some time and work this out. ------------------ F.C KARL 'BLADES' SAVAGE ORION FLEET TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP GCV - TSUNAMI Ôäó www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'For Queen and country'

  4. Carlton, as I explained about I've had some problems with my the sites primary FTP server and havent been able to upload anything for the last few days. I'm currently shouting at several support people to get it sorted, and they assure me it will be fixed monday. Just so you know, your profile has been added and you are in fact the final member added to the TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP. That group now complete, a new BG will be put together shortly that the newer members of the Fleet will be assigned to with a capable commanding officer. Anyway, keep going to the site. Feel free to post on the message forum. It's there to be used. Oh, and I'm still waiting for HAMBLIN and GMAN to start posting stuff on the Fleet News Forum. Hop to it gents. ------------------ F.C KARL 'BLADES' SAVAGE ORION FLEET TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP GCV - TSUNAMI Ôäó www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'For Queen and country'
  5. [Narrative On] Impact T ÔÇô 14 minutes ÔÇ£Medbay to bridge.ÔÇØ Came the voice of the troubled Chief Medical Officer. ÔÇ£Doc, whats wrong?ÔÇØ replied Neena, instantly. ÔÇ£Just had a run in with our old friend, Mallone.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Mallone?!?ÔÇØ exclaimed the Chikumas commander. ÔÇ£HeÔÇÖs alive?ÔÇØ A brief pause from medbay. ÔÇ£Doc?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Sorry, IÔÇÖm still here. Not feelin too good.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£What happened?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Mallone obviously didnÔÇÖt do the honourable thing and expire quietly somwhere else aboard ship. He got into sickbay and ambushed me.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Are you and the others alright? What happened?ÔÇØ Another pause. ÔÇ£The marine myself and Jayce rescued is dead. Mallone put him down. The Seargent, Ailsa and myself are ok, although I donÔÇÖt think IÔÇÖm going to be performing any kind of surgery for a good while.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Wheres Mallone?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Dead.ÔÇØ Said the CMO. ÔÇ£I killed him. I actually killed him.ÔÇØ The doctor sounded remorseful. Although a military doctor, he still took the age old hypocratic oath that demanded that he do no harm. In this instance, he had violated that oath, and taken a life. ÔÇ£You did your duty.ÔÇØ Said Neena. ÔÇ£You defended your ship and crew.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£I know.ÔÇØ Said the doctor. Still doesnÔÇÖt make it right.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Commander!ÔÇØ shouted Gambit from the TacOps console. ÔÇ£Sir, I think we have been detected!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£What? How?ÔÇØ Jensen took the initive and offered an explanation. ÔÇ£Sir, I think all the internal damage on board the Chikuma is showing up through our cloak. Whats more, we have been under cloak for a prolonged period of time. WeÔÇÖre bleeding radiation all over the place, and without a cleanup crew hosing down the decks, weÔÇÖre starting to glow.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£SheÔÇÖs right.ÔÇØ Offered the CMO from medbay. ÔÇ£I just ran a check. WeÔÇÖre all red lining on radiation exposure. If you donÔÇÖt disengage that cloak, weÔÇÖre all going to get a bad case of sunburn within the hour.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Hell.ÔÇØ Said Neena. ÔÇ£Whats the position of the Vagabond?ÔÇØ Gambit quickly pulled up the data. ÔÇ£Uh, if IÔÇÖm reading this right, sheÔÇÖs heading roughly in our direction. They probably cant localise the radiation surge, but they got a general idea of where we are.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Whats the position of IC1 and the Shuttle?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Sir, IC1 is engaging two fighters from the renegade fleet. Four more are moving in to intercept. That shuttle pilot of yours is pancaking enemy ICÔÇÖs like itÔÇÖs a friggin swat fest. Incredible.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Whats the rest of the fleet doing?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£They are still engaging the station and itÔÇÖs defenders. Another BattleCruiser, I think itÔÇÖs the Torino, is breaking from the assault and moving to support the Vagabond.ÔÇØ Neena frowned. This was not good. ÔÇ£Position of the Wraith task force?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Sir, the graff Spee and itÔÇÖs escorts are still well out of intercept range.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Not what I wanted to hear Gambit.ÔÇØ Neena paused for a moment to think. Valuable seconds ticked by. ÔÇ£Neena?ÔÇØ said Jensen. ÔÇ£Sir, the Vagabond is closing.ÔÇØ Neena took a deep breath. It was now or never. ÔÇ£Put us on course to intercept the Vagabond, maximum burn.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Aye commander!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Gambit, I hope youÔÇÖre figured out how to fire our weapons.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Ah, right on it commander. ShouldnÔÇÖt be that much more trouble than pulling a trigger.ÔÇØ Jensen turned in her seat and glared at him. ÔÇ£You have got to be joking.ÔÇØ Gambit beamed an uncharacteristic smile at her. ÔÇ£If all else fails, IÔÇÖll just mash the console with my big hands.ÔÇØ Jensen turned away, and shook her head. ÔÇ£Jarhead.ÔÇØ Impact T ÔÇô 11 minutes Dancer, the lead pilot of the GCV Torino broke formation and laced the Chikuma shuttle with a barage of laser fire. Satisfied with his initial pass, he broke hard left and allowed his wingman to repeat the maneuver. According to his tactical scanner, the shuttles shields had been augmented with a secondary power sorce, and although improving the recharge time and integrity of the craft, it also made it that more easy to disrupt itÔÇÖs power systems and cripple the shuttle with one well aimed shot. Had he or his wingman had a spare missile between them, the job would have been a lot simpler. Instead, he had to rely on the precision of his dogfighting skills to knock out the shuttle. So far, this wasnÔÇÖt successful. ÔÇ£Dancer to Merryman, you got any ordinance left?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Negative Dancer, I loosed off the last one before breaking from the primary target.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Hell.ÔÇØ Said Dancer. ÔÇ£What about your buddy?ÔÇØ Static. ÔÇ£Merryman?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Lead! Merryman just winked off my scope.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£What? What happened?ÔÇØ Dancer pulled his IC hard to port and began a spiraling maneuver that would bring him back onto IP with the shuttle. All at once, he realised what had happened to Merryman, and what was about to happen to his wingman. ÔÇ£Jesus! Hamlet! Break left! Break left dammit!ÔÇØ Too late. Dancer watched as the tractored Interceptor that Merryman was piloting was dragged into the strafe path of Hamlets interceptor. In an instant, the two Interceptors collided and exploded into a ball of flame. Dancer broke hard to the right to avoid the burning debris and only just avaoided a large chunk of an interceptors wing that spun manically out towards him. ÔÇ£Son of a bitch!ÔÇØ screamed Dancers wingman over the comms. ÔÇ£Did you see that Dancer? Did you see what that ******* did?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£I saw it, Bruce. Reform on my wing, weÔÇÖre going for another run and this time weÔÇÖre staying out of his tractor range. That ******* is good.ÔÇØ Impact T ÔÇô 10 minutes ÔÇ£Status!ÔÇØ barked Neena from the bridge. ÔÇ£Sir! Shields at 89%, weapons hot! Intruder is on final approach.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Jensen, bring us about to port, 45 degrees.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Aye sir, executing now.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Gambit, begin targeting their engines with the main gun and fore turret.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Will do.ÔÇØ Said Gambit. ÔÇ£Target at 5.7km and closing. Coming about to new course.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Slow us to one third. Fire up the maneuver jets and bring us about onto a parralel course with the target.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Understood.ÔÇØ Said Jensen. ÔÇ£Coming about.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Sir!ÔÇØ said Gambit. ÔÇ£Target is at 3.3 km to starboard.ÔÇØ Neena tugged at her tunic. She was about to lead her ship into battlefor the first time. She prayed that she had half the skill and inginuity of the previous commander. Stone may have been misguided, but he was an excellent Commander. ÔÇ£Target overtaking!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Jensen, bring us around dammit!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Doing my best commander. The ships not as responsive as I remember her!ÔÇØ An alarm started bleeping wildly on the bridge. Gambit quickly scanned over the TacOps terminal to discover what the problem was. ÔÇ£Sir! Threat warning! They got a lock on us.ÔÇØ Just then, the Chikuma began to shake under the impact of turret fire. ÔÇ£Jensen! I need a firing solution!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£In position in 6 ..ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Incomming missile!ÔÇØ shouted Gambit. ÔÇ£EMD!ÔÇØ barked Neena. ÔÇ£5 ..ÔÇØ ÔÇ£EMD active.ÔÇØ Said Gambit. ÔÇ£Missile still on course. Impact in 8 seconds.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£3 ..ÔÇØ Descision time. Execute an emergency maneuver to avoid the incomming missile, or stay on target and fire into the engines of the Vagabond. ÔÇ£1 ..ÔÇØ Fight or evade. Fight or evade. ÔÇ£Impact in 4 seconds!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£We have a firing solution!ÔÇØ Fight. ÔÇ£Open FIRE!ÔÇØ Impact T ÔÇô 9 minutes [Narrative Off] David, the ball is in your court. 6. Been a troubled week, so not had much time to do anything constructive. Welcomed two new commanders to the ORION family (Details should be on the OWS message forum by now). My normal mail account ([email protected]) has been down for some stupid reason for last few days (Still waiting to hear from TS) so havent been recieving any mail from anyone. For the time being, if you want to get in touch with me, send to [email protected] and I'll get back to you asap. Also added the BladesCamÔäó to a secret location on the site (Check the message forum for location) cos I secretly enjoy being watched *G*. The Tsunami Battle Group has been completely filled with active commanders, and I shall be commisioning another battle group within the next few days. Am considering several active commanders from within the ranks to lead it. Finally, not a happy bunny cos my bloody girlfriend decided to leave me. So, between bouts of depression and excessive tarting (There is high demand for this particular brit) I havent been able to keep up with current events recently. ------------------ F.C KARL 'BLADES' SAVAGE ORION FLEET TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP GCV - TSUNAMI Ôäó www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'For Queen and country'
  7. [Narrative On] Impact T ÔÇô 16 minutes ÔÇ£Fleet Commander Stiles!ÔÇØ said the TacOps commander from the bridge of the GCV Universe. ÔÇ£Yes?ÔÇØ responded the Orion Fleets renegade Commander. ÔÇ£Sir, our Interceptors have been engaged by the Chikumas support vessels.ÔÇØ Stiles shook his head in disbelief. ÔÇ£I donÔÇÖt understand it. Colonel Mallone and his people couldnÔÇÖt have lost control of the ship.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Either that or heÔÇÖs had a radical change of heart, sir.ÔÇØ Said the TacOps commander. Stiles scoffed at him. ÔÇ£Mallone have a change of heart? I think not. Obviously some of Stones people have gotten the better of him, however unlikely that may sound.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Orders, sir?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Have the interceptors from the Torino break from their CAP and engage the Chikuma IC and shuttle. Order the Vagabond to locate the Chikuma and destroy her. And have the Torino herself standby to break from the asault.ÔÇØ The TacOps commander looked at Stiles. ÔÇ£Sir?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Just in case, Kyle. 8. [Narrative On] Impact T ÔÇô 23 minutes Mallone had realised two important things since his encounter with Sgt. Diamond. The first was that he had under estimated the grunts fighting ability, and the second was that he was dieing. Fortunately for Mallone, his impending death had been interupted by the timely intervention of his previous victim, Neena Polovoski. The innacurate blast from her plasma rifle had seperated both the struggling me moments before Diamond would have plunged the knife further into his already desestated neck. The interuption had given him time to quietly (If ungracefully) slip away and enter an accessway. After some painful crawling, he found himself at a familiar junction, and kicked his way into the medbay. Although his medical skills were little more than basic medic expertise, he knew enough to plunge a variety of pain killing drugs into his shattered frame and take the edge off the agony. He was just in the process of bandaging up his severe wound when the comotion of arriving patients disturbed him. Unarmed, and not entirely combat worthy, he decided to take refuge behind one of the robotic surgery assistants in the back of the bay and sit this particular encounter out. That was, until the timely arrival of the doctor. Mallone sat there for several minutes as the doctor worked on the badly wounded Sgt. Diamond. It both ammused and troubled him that his opponant had survived the savage fighting. Ammused at how stubourn the old soldier was for not giving into the darkness and surrendering to the infinately less painful death and troubled by the fact that while alive, he still represented a threat to him, and the mission. Mallone decided he still needed to be taken out. But first, there was the doctor, not to mention the traitor and the navigator. The rest of the crew could wait. It was during the doctors brief communication with Neena on the liberated bridge that Mallone put his plan into action. Quietly, he slipped an arm out and reached over and activated the saw arm of the surgery assistant. Although not loud, the activation noise alerted the doctor to the fact that something was entirely right. Mallone hadnt counted on this, nor the fact that the doctor was armed, and approaching him slowley from the far side of the medbay. Pulling a single shell from his trouser pocket, Mallone held it tightly between his thumb and forefinger and prepared to flick it into a medical cabinet a few feet to the left of him. He waited until the doctor approached even closer, and then when within striking distance, tossed the round. The moment it connected it sent out a shrill twang, and had the inexperienced doctor swirling to cover the area of the sound with his pistol. At that same moment, Mallone sprang to his feet and pushed the surgery assistants robotic arm towards the doctor. The doctor turned the moment the new sound startled him, and rbought the weapon round just in time to see the scalpel end of the arm plunge deep into his forearm and drag him back. The gun fell from his hand and scattered out of sight under a surgical table. Mallone stumbled from behind the assistant and kicked out at the doctor, sending him reeling back further and off the impailing arm. ÔÇ£No!ÔÇØ shouted the wounded marine from his own surgicle table. ÔÇ£Colonel please!ÔÇØ Mallone looked up at his subordinate, and briefly forgot about finishing off the doctor. Instead, he tore the scalper piece off the arm and threw it with all his might at his turncoat marine. The blade plunged into the surprised marines left eyesocket, and he fell backwards without making so much as a gurgle. Grinning, Mallone turned back to finish what he had started with the doctor, only to be met by the boot of the man kicking him hard in the face. Mallone fell backwards, felt knew pain as he gashed himself on the broken asistants arm. He pushed himself up and looked into the fearful eyes of the doctor. It was time to finish this, once and for all. 12. Heh. Let's not start dick sizeing, James. You doin a fine job as XO and I wouldnt hand out these responsibilities If I didnt think you were up to it. If It makes you feel any better, I'm all over Greg right now as well and I'm about to start hitting our abscent member Commander Foss with things he can busy himself with. Think of it this way James. Orion is a working Fleet with real responsibilities. We're not just a name with a few vocal members, we are a community, and a community has to work in order to survive. We will survive thanks to the efforts of people like yourself and GMAN. You should be proud, if a little stressed. However, if the workload does get a little too much for you, I'm sure as XO you have the authority to delegate. 13. Well, the only tips I can offer really are common sense ones that were established yonks ago when all the RP stuff first started. First, it's not a good idea to be doing anything like creating new castes, races, factions etc. Nor is it a good idea to start inventing new technologies or radically screw with event history. If you are planning to do somthing which may upset the continuity of the universe, I'd suggest asking for permission to do so from a higher power (Such as the SC in my own example) or one of the admins. Posting somthing which is likely to get you shouted at is the surest way to get yourself booted out the airlock. Also, set the rules for participants at the begining of the scenario or you may well end up with contradictory posts n other chaos all over the place. On my own thread, I ran it pretty restrictive and tight so as to prevent things getting out of control. In some respects it has been a bit restrictive, but on the whole my method has kept the continuity (For the most part) intact and the story running smoothly. Anyway, these are just my basic words of wisdom. Read the other RP threads/storys and make up your own mind on how to procede with things. Hope this is of help. Lookin forward to participating. ------------------ F.C KARL 'BLADES' SAVAGE ORION FLEET TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP GCV - TSUNAMI Ôäó www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'For Queen and country'
  14. [Narrative On] Impact T - 19 minutes From the bridge of the GCV Universe, Fleet Commander Stiles oversaw the unfolding battle around him. The six GalCom vessels directly under his command were amongst the most impressive ever commisioned. Each had been fully upgraded with state of the art tactical and engineering systems, and their crews amongst the best that the Orion fleet had to offer. Right now, both ship and crews of these vessels were assaulting the Drodian starstation in an effort to sieze it and loot it's secrets. To prevent the inhabitants of the Drodian homeworld from interupting their blatent theft, they had secured the services of the GCV Chikuma to launch a prototype weapon of mass destruction to anhiilate the population. That way, there would be no reinforcements, and nobody left around to track the fleet once the looting had been completed. So far, they weer on schedule. The stations defences were being beaten down with minimal damage to his fleet, and the RANDOM device was well on course to the planet. Twenty minutes from now, and it would all be over. The station would surrender and the boarding could begin. The technological secrets of this advanced and secrative race would be his to plunder. Phase two of his grand plan could begin in earnest. "Fleet Commander?" said Niles, the commander of the Universe. "What is it?" barked the older officer. "Sir, tactical has just reported a blip on TacOps." "What is it?" "Sir, before it dissapeared, I could have sworn it was the Chikuma." "The Chikuma? She's not sposed to be anywhere near the engagement area." "I know, sir. From what Tactical tells me, their course was bringing them here in an afwul hurry. Not only that, but two support craft have been detected ahead of the ship. A shuttle and a single Interceptor." "Thats .... interesting." said the Fleet Commander. "Have the Vagabond break off from the assault and investigate." "Aye sir!" said the commander, repeated the instruction to his comms officer. "Vagabond is breaking off from the attack and proceding to intercept. They are requesting additional instructions, sir." Stiles thought for a moment. Could Mallone have lost control of the ship? "Have them locate the Chikuma and beam a boarding party aboard. If they refuse, or show any aggresive signs, destroy them." "Understood, relaying that now." "Oh," started the Fleet Commander. "and have a wing of fighters break from their CAP and intercept the support vessels. Have them escorted away from the engagement area. If they refuse, destroy them." The commander nodded, and proceded with his orders. GMAN, we still need those new recruits, so I hope you havent fallen down with a christmas choccie overdose, cos we badly need your services. The rest of you are not out of the woods yet. I got a few things that still need sorting, and I shall pick on a few of you as they become needed. Remember, this is a working fleet, not a stroll in the park. I expect pushups ...... lots of 'em. 19. [Narrative On] Impact T  26 minutes Moments ago, Interceptor One blew the launch bay doors apart and soared less than gracefully into the blackened night. The Chikuma seemed to scream with the internal wound, and the entire ship shuddered in complaint from the ICs weapon fire. Once the shuddering had abated, and the pressure doors had sealed off the launch bay, normality began to resume. In the moments that followed, Leutenant Commander Neena Polovoski (With the assistance of Jayce Allen) determined that releasing the imprissoned crew from their quarters would take somewhat longer than they had to fully man the ship. Foregoing the assistance of the rest of the crew, the Chikuma survivors headed for the bridge to determine the status of their wounded ship. Jensen immediately took her position at helm control, and determined that with a little creative reworking, she could alter the ships present course and manually steer it through space. Likewise at weapons control, Neena was pleased to discover that the destruction of the computer core hadnt completely shut out weapons functions. The PTA and main IOD guns were still operational, although the advanced target and tracking systems required for missile lock and launch were fried. Good enough. Murmered Neena. Gambit, the shocked Interceptor pilot had accompanied the rest of them to the bridge. He quickly found himself at the communications console and glumly reported to Neena that the system was completely useless. Commander! said Jensen. What is it Tamara? replied Neena. Were still cloaked, sir. The probe launch and Interceptor disembarkment caused us to wink in briefly, but were still invisible. Neena thought. Gambit! shouted Neena. The pilot looked up from the comms station. Yes, commander? Check TacOps. Tell me what you can see. Gambit nodded and went to the TacOps station that Graves had previously occupied. A moment later, he pulled up a current tactical layout of Chikumas current region. Sir, it looks like a fleet of GalCom ships are assaulting the Drodian homeworlds starbase. How many ships? asked Neena. Uh  six, sir. Plus an additional 24 support craft. Interceptors. Drodian defences? Minimal, sir. It looks like the majority of their fleet was recalled to the homeworld. So far Im not detecting any support from the planet. My guess is, that GalCom fleet is jamming the station. It could take up to an hour before the homeworld launches to investigate. Wouldnt they assume they were under attack by the Gammulans if they lost contact with the station? Unlikely. Their outlying comms stations would have been attacked by Gammulan advanced elements, and alerted them that way. They are probably assuming its just a brief comms interuption. Jensen frowned. But the station wont hold out that long against the fleet, and by the time they figure out something really is wrong, the RANDOM would have vaporised the planet. Theyre screwed. Not yet their not. Said Gambit, excitedly. Commander, Ive just detected a GalCom force of four ships entering the region. Its the Corsairs sir! Led by the Graff Spee! Neena joined Gambit at the TacOps display. Time to intercept the enemy fleet? Gambit calculated. A little over 30 minutes, sir. Neena thumped the comsole hard. Dammit. The station cant hold out that long. We need to buy the Drodians some time. How? asked Jensen. Neena frowned once again, and stood thinking for a moment. Then she left Gambits side, and slowley stepped over to her commanders chair. Pausing just a moment, she seated herself and and tightly gripped the arm rests with her hands. Battle stations! she ordered. Startled, Jensen and Gambit took a moment to fully take in what she was ordering. Once the shock had abated, they resumed their positions and began checking off battle systems. Neena flicked the internal comms switch on the command chair and bleeped McKendrick. Kenny, you at the shuttlebay yet? Yes sir, just got here. Excellent. Would I be right in assuming that the shuttles sensor suite is vastly more sophisticated that that of the average interceptor? Ah, something like that, sir. Then I want you to get out there and find that probe. Ah, understood. Then what? Destroy it. Any way you can. What about the Chikuma, sir? Im afraid our sensor systems are seriously damaged. We havent got a chance in hell of locating that weapon. However, were going to engage the aggressive GalCom fleet and give you cover at the same time. Once you are spacebourn, have IC1 fly cover for you and keep any enemy fighters off your back. Understood commander. Said McKendrick, sounding withdrawn. Kenny, Its up to you now. Youre the only one who can find that probe. If you dont stop it, billions will die. Neena heard the engineer groan. Kenny? I really dont need this kind of pressure right now, thanks Commander. And if its not too much trouble, would you please stop calling me Kenny? Its giving me the creeps something awful. Despite herself, Neena laughed. I apologise McKendrick. Good hunting, and godspeed. With that, Neena closed communications and ordered Jensen to bring the Chikuma about and head out at maximum burn towards the battle. 21. Heh James. You swine. Not only do I feel guilty, but you've gone n pissed on my plan. Never mind, this is salvageable. The journey on the Galatea was, to be fair, uncomfortable. The ship was old, in dire need of quality refurbishment and needed a damned good fumigation. Blades had checked the service logs of this particular vessel when he first noticed the unusual 'Smell' in the commanders quaters, and discovered that it had been some time since this ship had had any semblance of a refit. Blades decided that after the mission to Procyon was complete, he would make a point of either having the Galatea mothballed to the reserve fleet or majorly renovated. Right now, he was thinking mothballed. The reason why he was now considering this option was because James Hamblin, executive officer of the ORION Fleet was whining at him. To be fair, the exec had a fair point to make. The operational descisions for the mission had been made, the tactics drawn out and briefed to the respective BattleCruiser C.O's, but the fact still remained that Karl 'Blades' Savage was the Orion Fleet Commander, and he was now extreemly bored. However, despite being bored and wanting to prove to himself that he was, in fact, capable of leading the fleet into a major engagement, Hamblin did have a very god point. "I understand you're grieveances, commander." said Blades. "And, uh ...., well, I only came here on board your ship to, uh ..., test you." "Test me?" queried Hamblin. "Yes!" stared Blades. "I wanted to see if you were objectionable enough. Had you not been, I would have taken command of the fleet myself and assigned someone like GMAN to the exec position." "Uh ... I see." said hamblin. "Glad you do." said Savage. "You didnt dissapoint me." Hamblin seemed pleased, if not entirely convinced. "Ah, thank you. Sir." Blades nodded at him. "Well, now thats sorted, I'll be heading back to headquaters." "Good idea, sir." said Hamblin. Again, Blades smiled and nodded at him. "Ah, do continue, commander." Hamblin saluted, waited while Savage was beamed back to the Galatea and then turned to his transported chief, made a whirling motion next to his temple and headed back to the bridge. This day was getting stranger by the minute. 22. Dont worry Ben, you got lots of time to worry about the RANDOM device. Sadly, you not got a lot of time to deal with Stiles's fleet who are now engaging the Drodian homeworlds starbase. 24. No probs with the delay Ron. It was worth it. [Narrative On] Launch T ÔÇô 4 minutes The concussion blast from Neenas well aimed rifle blast blew both men apart from eachother. The seargent fell hard to the left, while Mallone, critically injured from the gunyÔÇÖs deep cut fell to the right. The effort of keping the rifle steady was almost more than Neena could endure in her present condition. The earlier projectile shot to her chest had broken several ribs and bruised her internally. Without the protection of the deflection vest she wore under her uniform (And at the seargents insistance earlier) she would have been killed. The concussion damage from the projectile was still nearly enough to kill her. Had it been from one of Mallones MLA pistols, no ammount of armour protection would have saved her life. As things were, she was battered, but alive. However, he aiming was off. She pulled off a few additional blasts from the plasma rifle, and sent Mallone scurrying off round the corner, leaving a trail of blood as he went. She tried, in vain, to force herself to persue the madman, but fell at the feet of the unconscious guny and gave up the chase. Mallone wouldnÔÇÖt get far. The wound had been severe. His stumbling steps away from her were, in all likelihood, his last steps. Groggily, she examined the wounded seargent. The blade from Mallones knife was still imbeded deep within the gunyÔÇÖs abdomon, and the blood seeping from the wound was enough to tell her that the man was close to death. Immediately, she grabbed the comm from her belt, and called urgently into it. ÔÇ£This is Spencer, go ahead.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Chief,ÔÇØ winced Neena. ÔÇ£I need the doctor at section 15, right away.ÔÇØ The chief of engineering sounded concerned. ÔÇ£You ok Neena?ÔÇØ Neena breathed heavily. ÔÇ£IÔÇÖll live, but the guny wont if the doc doesnÔÇÖt get down here, stat!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£The doctor is on his way. ETA, two minutes.ÔÇØ Neena sighed into the comm unit, and cast a near tearful gaze at the downed marine. ÔÇ£Hold on guny.ÔÇØ She said to him. ÔÇ£Hold on just a little longer ÔǪÔÇØ Spencer beeped Neena back. ÔÇ£Leutenant Commander, the rest of us are in position.ÔÇØ Neena drew herself away from Diamond and focused her mind on the job at hand. ÔÇ£IÔÇÖm sorry, but I wont be joining you Chief. You are going to have to take it from here. Whats our status?ÔÇØ Spencer thought for a moment before giving his report. ÔÇ£The pilots, myself and Jayce Allen are all in position. McKendrick must have taken out the computer core, because we got blinking lights and power outages all over this deck. HeÔÇÖs making his way back up here with us now with Jensen in tow.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£IÔÇÖll be damned.ÔÇØ Said Neena. ÔÇ£Jensen actually made it.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Yeah,ÔÇØ started the chief. ÔÇ£sheÔÇÖs a tough old bird, that one. ÔÇØAnd Mallones people?ÔÇØ asked Neena. ÔÇ£Like we expected, the are holled up in the probe launch bay. Eight of them.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Only eight?ÔÇØ said Neena. ÔÇ£Theres got to be a couple more than that.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Seems like we got a couple of roamers out there somewhere, or maybe the malfunctioning drones took care of them. No way to know.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Understood.ÔÇØ Said Neena. She paused for a moment, considering her words carefully. ÔÇ£Chief, this is our only chance to stop the launch. If we blow it here, we lose everything. You have GOT to prevent that launch at all costs, even if it means losing the ship in the process.ÔÇØ When the chief responded, he sounded grim. ÔÇ£We down to two minutes Neena. ItÔÇÖs time for us to do our job.ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Good luck.ÔÇØ Said Neena, wishing more than anything that she could be there to lead the charge into battle, that in all likelihood would see them all dead. ÔÇ£Same to you.ÔÇØ Said the Chief. ÔÇ£And, Neena? ItÔÇÖs been an honour serving with you. Spencer out.ÔÇØ Launch T ÔÇô 2 minutes Inside the probe launch bay, the remainder of Mallones troops stood by and awaited the assault they knew was coming. Previously, they had been the ones on the offensive, stalking the crew, locking to non coms down in quarters and sending wave after wave of the killer drones into the shuttle bay to take out the defient crew. Now, it was they who were trapped like animals, their backs against the walls. They were the hunted. The tables had been well and truly turned. Three of the eight assembled marines were walking wounded. Their combat capacity significantly reduced during a brief and bloody skirmish with several malfunctioning HK drones. Whatever their fighting condition, they would sooner die than allow Neena to complete her mission. Fortunately for the marines, their mission was due to end with the probes launch in a little under two minutes. ÔÇ£Incomming!ÔÇØ shouted the marine on point, a fraction before his chest exploded under a plasma rifle burst from combat medic Jayce Allen. In response, the room was filled with autofire from bothe the marines and the charging Chikuma crew. In such tight and close quarters, it was impossible to see who was was falling under the hair of weapons fire, but both sides took heavy casualties. In the frantic seconds that passed during the exchange, the superior numbers of the Chikuma crew overwhelmed the the superior skills and weapons of Mallones special ops goons. As the last of the combat worthy marines fell, the remainder of Neenas army waded into the probe launch bay and surveyed the carnage. Jayce immediately fell to his knees and began assesing the condition of his fallen comrades. He concluded immediately that Chief Spencer had been killed outright by massed plasma fire from the defending marines. He also concluded that pilots Diesel and Shadow were dead. Shodan and Blackjack were alive, but seriously wounded. BigTone was hurt, but still capable. Gambit was unhurt, but in deep shock. Jayce decided to begin to treat the two most seriously wounded pilots first. BigTone and the marines could wait. Banish looked on at his dead pilots. The combat that had claimed them was not the glorious death of an Interceptor pilot in airial combat, but cut down like vermin on a field of death. Like Banish, Pancake stood alone and numbly looked down at his dead friends. Had it not been for Jayce Allens urgent shouting, both men could have stayed there the like that forever. ÔÇ£Uh? Guys?ÔÇØ ÔÇ£What is it?ÔÇØ said Banish, now effectively in command since the death of Chief engineer Spencer. ÔÇ£The countdown! We still have to stop it!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£Shit!ÔÇØ shouted Banish, suddenly remembering the purpose of the mission. Banish waded through the chared bodies around him, and approached the control terminal where the launch countdown was rapidly approaching itÔÇÖs termination. ÔÇ£Launch T ÔÇô 45 secondsÔÇØ the display told him. Banish quickly sought out the right controls, found them and punched the abort code. A heartbeat later, the console shut down and the countdown stopped. Banish blew a sigh of relief. ÔÇ£Thank god for that.ÔÇØ Said a relieved sounding Pancake. ÔÇ£I was starting to get a little bit worri-ÔÇ£ The console flashed on again, and the countdown resumed. ÔÇ£What the hell?ÔÇØ said Banish. 39 38 37 ÔÇ£I thought you aborted the launch!ÔÇØ shouted Jayce from the floor. ÔÇ£I did!ÔÇØ countered Banish. ÔÇ£I cut power to the launch control and cancelled the launch!ÔÇØ ÔÇ£It doesnÔÇÖt look very cancelled to me!ÔÇØ screamed Jayce. Giggling from somwhere in front of them. Banish tensed, pulled his weapon to waist elvel and sought out the sound. ÔÇ£WhoÔÇÖs there!ÔÇØ he shouted. 31 30 29 The giggling abruptly stopped, and out of the shadows appeared Benni Arnauld, the systems engineer that Neena had explained had been working with Mallone. ÔÇ£You!ÔÇØ said Jayce, leaving the wounded man at his side and pulling out his holstered blaster and aiming it into the face of the wayward systems engineer. ÔÇ£You son of a bitch!ÔÇØ 26 25 24 Banish had no time to negotiate, nor did he really want to converse with this traitor. ÔÇ£Shut down the launch.ÔÇØ He said to Benni. Benni grinned at him. ÔÇ£No.ÔÇØ 19 18 17 Banish and Jayce bother forced the ends of their weapons into the face of their tormentor. ÔÇ£Shut the launch control down or I swear to god I will kill you.ÔÇØ 14 13 12 ÔÇ£Kill me then.ÔÇØ Said Benni, smiling. ÔÇ£IÔÇÖve already seen what I wanted to see. I watched the Chief die. I watched him burn ÔǪ.. and now, IÔÇÖm going to watch an entire world light up like a christmas tree.ÔÇØ 9 8 7 ÔÇ£Turn off the friggin launch control you *******! NOW!!!ÔÇØ Benni spat into Banishes face. Both armed men pulled triggers. Benni fell. 4 3 2 In a last and defient gesture, Banish and Jayce turned their weapons to the launch contol terminal and blasted away. The terminal smashed, they continued their rain of fire on all the equipment in the room. Within seconds, macheenery was broken and useless, exposed power conduits sparking and leaking all over the place. The noise from their shouts and the barking of their weapons droned out the sound of the modified probe with itÔÇÖs deadly payload launch from itÔÇÖs bay and towards itÔÇÖs target. It was only when both of the mens weapons had run dry, and they focused on the single remaining VDU blinking at them mockingly, that they realised that they had failed. ÔÇÿGAME OVERÔÇÖ It read. Banish linked in with his commanding officer. ÔÇ£Neena? We have a serious problem.ÔÇØ Impact T ÔÇô 30 minutes [Narrative Off] ***** Well gang, I guess thatÔÇÖs about it. Weapon is launched, itÔÇÖs mounted on a modified (And cloaked) probe. The player characters are dropping like flies, and Mallone is still out there somwhere. Maybe. You got 30 minutes of in game time to save the world. Have yourselves a good christmas, and I look forward to seeing how you are going to get out of this in the new year. ***** ------------------ F.C KARL 'BLADES' SAVAGE ORION FLEET TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP GCV - TSUNAMI Ôäó www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'For Queen and country'
