#4 I can help you with. The others have me stumped too If you have a probe in another system, you can view the system in TACOPS by selecting "View local system" (or similar) from the probe's TLM.

OK....this is a problem I've been trying to get around for the past day and a bit, but I'm having very little luck. Before I start, I've followed all steps re: stability troubleshooting in the FAQ, have installed the latest 4.37v VIA 4-in-1's and SBLive drivers, downgraded from Nvidia Det's 23.11 to 22.80 (due to the SC mentioning how buggy 23.11's are), defragged (Norton speedisk), and re-installed and re-patched to 1.0.0.4 RC1 following the procedure listed by the SC in his "How to start from scratch with a patch" thread. All this was done after experiencing this problem a number of times in the hope of resolving it. Yet the problem persists despite these steps. The problem is CTD's in the Alpha Majora-Majoris system near the start of the 2nd diplomat escort mission. I would estimate I've tried 25-30 times to leave the system using the Tau Ceti wormhole (on the way to Pluto or Centris to escort a diplomat), but 98% of the time I CTD before getting there. Once I've gotten to the other side of the wormhole then immediately CTD'd, and a few (maybe 3 or 4) times I've had no CTD at all and went on my merry way. For a while I thought it might have to do with me using my RESTORE save (done just before docking with Majora station) or my RESUME save (quick save just after leaving Majora), as the RESTORE save would seemingly give me a CTD every time whereas the RESUME quick save would be more merciful. But now I'm not so sure...both give me very little love. There is a bit of action in the system due to the presence of a hostile Stormcarrier and I've had the feeling that the CTD's have been the result of some event like a missile launch/impact or similar....but I cant be sure of this. I've had a couple of seemingly random CTD's before this problem, but they were the isolated, uncommon sort one normally ignores. After all...it is software I can supply the save games or more info if what I have provided is not enough. Thanks

Alrighty now...is anyone working on the Fleet/Battlegroup Insignia avatars? I know you can put similar in your sig, but I think it would be cool to see Orion-Tsunami, Orion-Deterrence etc etc as Avatars.

I see those Marine grunts are still insubordinate, even in the future! Some things just never change [/rp] Thanks for the welcome all. Will continue checking through the Fleet info you have helpfully provided, and once I figure out what cap will fit best, I'll let you know!

You can see it if you paste the graphic url in your browser, views the pic, and return to the forums (as I have done). A better solution would be to get a more conventional host though.

Worst customer service ever (AT&T Broadband)
Guardian452 replied to Advil's topic in General Chatter
quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Yes, I *hate* AT&T with a passion. And if their constantly declining stock is any indication, I hope they keep losing money. Incompetent bastards. Ahhh....I can relate to that Telco hating vitriol . Down here in Australia we basically have one Telco (Tel$tra) which provides the infrastructure for broadband in this country. Problem is a) they are incompetent. up until recently, Tel$tra resold its wholesale ADSL at the same price as it's retail product. And they only had to change that fact because of a Consumer and Competition advocacy committee order. c) they are incompetent. d) their retail broadband only allows a dowload limit of 3GB per month before extravangant per MB charges kick in. What a joke. e) they are incompetent. f) they are currently only interested in spicing up the books short term because the current Govt. wants to sell off the remaining 50% and fully privatise it. g) they are incompetent. h) did I mention they are incompetent? It's amazing that our Govt wants Australia to be seen as the technology centre of the Asia/Pacific region yet allows Tel$tra to hamper broadband uptake in this country as it is doing. -
What a shame. Hopefully this is just temporary. There's too much potential for the sharing of ideas/info in here to let it go for good

I saw GCV and immediately thought "General Contact Vehicle". Hmm.....I think I've read too much Iain M Banks If anyone is unfamiliar with his books, try one of his "Culture" series. They're damned good, and on the wayside, he has a brilliant way with ship names

After emailing BMT bout my order, they replied with "shipped on 29/11". So hopefully, within the next 5 business days, I'm gonna be sitting up in bed at 4.20am trying to digest that sweet manual I'm hearing about (ahhh.....remembers Microprose manuals in the old days). Then I might actually try playing the game ;p

dont get so steamed on this subject. As certain as night follows day, a game that is available via retail is a game that is available via being warezed. I'm not condoning it by any measure, but is is a simple fact. On the brighter side (if there is one), I dont think this is a game that will be warezed all that much (maybe I should go further and say that not many sales will be lost to warez). As the SC has mentioned, BCM is a game for a niche, hardcore audience....not the droves of pre-juvenile warez jockeys out there, who will be downloading Warcraft 6 and Quake 9 when we're all old and grey. Hope this doesnt put me offside with anyone.

What I think we all want (and if you dont...you SHOULD! )is an evolved Homeworld in the Star Wars universe. That would kick serious ass.

well....bugger me with a fishfork! Didnt see the trees because of that bloody forest getting in the way. From what I'd read, EB was the only place to get it and they'd only ship BCM to North American addresses. I stand corrected.
-
Well, whaddyaknow, the search function is useful . Was going to ask if any other Australians were getting BCM, and how, but it seems that at this stage someone from North America needs to obtain the game from EB then ship it down here. Bit of a bummer.....but it aint an insurmountable obstacle. BCM (and future expansions) intruiges me like no other game has. Ever since playing Elite on the C64, I've been waiting for the game....no - experience, which promises to be BCM. [ass kissing]I've been loosely following the BC saga for a couple of years (since the Take2 kerfuffle) and I really do admire the "my own way" path the SC has taken.[/ass kissing] One thing, which is sure to see me lambasted, taunted, and possibly banned I just have to share is my ludicrous misperception of what the SC looked like. If anyone remembers the BBC Gerry Anderson series "UFO", think of Commander Straker. Whenever I read an article on BC or when Derek Smart's name was mentioned, Commander Straker popped into my mind. Shock white hair, funky 70's "future" suits and all....that was the SC in my mind. Until I saw his pic behind his board profile that is - looks like he should be spinning discs in Ibiza or something . How I got this initial impression, I know not. Probably something to do with mushrooms though...... ....in any case, I'm looking forward to putting BCM through it's paces. Joy....another reason for me to park myself in front of my PC for far too long ps: pardon the inane first post, but I dont know enough about the game to comment on it at this stage. But that'll change in time
