Someone - somehow - hacked into the forum and deleted the memberslist.cgi file which contains all the forum members. So, most of you won't be able to login. We are currently investigating and checking the site logs with the help of our ISP to figure when the breach occured and who it was that deleted that file. In the meantime, I have disabled registrations and restored a backup of that file. If you find that you can no longer login to the site to post, then you have to wait until this is sorted out. Universal Combat: After Action Reports:
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Discussions
LMAO!!!! You know, you could've taken one of those gunships, gone to a base, grabbed a shuttle; then come back and retrieve your CC from the ocean. -
I had the site pulled after someone sent me this thread. For some reason, Shingen seems to think that I have something against him. Funny thing is, I don't. He was banned from here - twice - for inappropriate behavior. To the extent that when I re-instated him the second time, the admins didn't want him back. So I upheld the decision. Fact is, I don't mind people hosting BC sites, as long as they have my expressed written permission and that they are in the BC web ring. Apart from that, in Shingen's case, considering the crap he posts about me and my games, it would only be a matter of time before his site turns into another full fledged DS-hate site. I'm not putting up with that any longer.

quote: Originally posted by Nicholas Dogris, Ph.D.: One of the things that I liked about the original BC3K was the ability to transport the AE to any craft any time you wanted to do so. I realize that this had been changed a long time ago, but I still miss it because it added another level of tension to the combat that I enjoyed. Any chance of bringing back that function into the game? I removed it because it was unrealistic and left too many holes in the game. I have absolutely no intentions of bringing it back. You can still send your AE to any craft you choose; you just can't hot-switch between crafts regardless of where your AE happens to be. If anything, the new method adds more tension than the previous method, because your AE is more in harm's way. Leaving the bridge of your CC should have consequences. Now it does. Glad you like the new game. A lot of work went into it.

Quick question on NPC "Flee" Order
Supreme Cmdr replied to Steve Schacher's topic in Universal Combat Series
They will do that if they don't find anything interesting to do instead of littering the world by just lingering around. e.g. if raiders show up and don't see anything to attack, they will leave after a few mins of loitering in the region. And NPCs are auto-generated in any part of the region. Also the planet is a perfectly valid location to flee to; just as they try to when returning to a station. Sheesh, it has been this way since BC3K. -

The trailer for the movie is online. It looks good. But so did Alone In The Dark.

Another one bites the dust. Ganked over at EA quote: Stainless Steel Studios, the makers of Real Time Strategy games such as the winner of GameSpy's PC Game of the Year 2001 award Empire Earth, is no more. A fact leaving the January 2006 release of their now final game, Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War, in jeopardy. No official word has been given yet, but the company's site was taken down earlier this week. Granted, an incident which in itself may be writen off as being the result of techinical difficulties, but the existence of a thread - over at R&F Heaven - started and visited by several now former Stainless Steel employees confirms the sad news. They didn't, however, detail how come the studio was closed just weeks before a gold copy of Rise & Fall where to be handed over to its publisher Midway. There is ongoing speculation as to whether or not a possible bad relationship between Midway and Stainless Steel, notorious for their lack of consistency when it comes to publishers, was the reason for the abolishment of the studio. Stainless Steel Studios was founded by Age of Empires designer Rick Goodman and other Ensemble Studios employees. Their fate, as well as the fate of all other Stainless Steel employees, is currently unknown. quote: This is true, SSSI is no more. I can't give details as to why, but I can tell you the product is in excellent shape, the team was in high morale and plowing ahead at full steam, and we were just weeks from gold disk. When making games, not all factors are under your control. If one of those uncontrolable factors are important to your company and product, and fails you, bad things like this can happen. It's an unfortunante part of life. You can only learn from the experience, hopefully educate others on your experiences, and everyone in the games industry gets stronger as a result. Still, this is truly a dissapointment. The talent of our team was incredible, the synergy we had, amazing. We would have been a gold-mine pickup for one of the bigger publishers if they wanted a top-notch RTS game company under their wing.. but alas... People are spreading to the wind now, unfortunantly seperating some amazing talent that worked on, what I feel is one of, if not the most, modern RTS Technology in the industry. 7 years, and.. hmm.. something like 70 programming years (man years) put into the product. If Rise & Fall is released by someone else (its just a few bugs from finishing), you guys will love it! RAF is an RTS evolutionary game, and its a shame we won't be around to write its XPacks and sequels. I think the biggest loss here is the fans who love RTS. The death of our AAA RTS company means 1 less team driving to increase the industry's limits. It means 7 years of technology and the team who knew it like the back of their hand, put on the shelf. I feel bad for you guys. :-(

So here I was in Best Buy yesterday, wondering wtf I was doing there the day before a holiday. Then it hit me. I was there to pick up the War Of The Worlds DVD. So, I grabbed that and headed for the console section. There I was going to pick up an extra memory stick for my PSP, when I saw a 4GB HDD for the PSP!! Imagine my shock!! It was $229 and after reading how it connects to the PSP, includes a 2x battery etc I didn't hesitate to grab one of them. Its really nifty to say the least. No more spending money on memory sticks. I already had the - rather bulky - Nyko charger case for my PSP - and I found myself hardly using it. So, if anyone wants to buy it from me, I'd be more than willing to flog it and throw in free shipping. I also grabbed one of the Logitech cases for the PSP. Pretty cool that.

I've created a console forum now. Feel free to litter it with all manner of console speak. No longer need to keep all topics in one (this) thread.

Is there a problem with you guys keeping the XBox discussions in the Xbox thread? Or is it that you folks like to see your threads do the disappearing act?
