  3. Use the game Updater to download and apply the patch. The online VCF has also been updated. NOTES: If you use the game's Updater, the process will go like this: If you have any version lower than 1.00.07, it will download the 1.00.07 update first. After applying this, you need to run Updater again so that it can download the incremental update to 1.00.10 If you already have 1.00.07 or higher installed, it will download only the incremental update to 1.00.10 Also, you can now view the VCF directly from the Updater (once it has self-updated itself to the newer version which supports this). If you don't want to use the Updater, then you have to check one of the public mirrors for a link to the full v1.00.10 patch; which you should then copy into the game's folder and execute from there. WARNING: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE PUBLIC PATCHES AVAILABLE ON DOWNLOAD MIRRORS IF YOU HAVE THE DOWNLOAD (DIRECT2DRIVE, TRYMEDIA ETC) VERSION OF THE GAME!! USE THE UPDATER INSTEAD. ONCE THE PUBLISHERS MAKE THEIR VERSIONS OF THE PATCH AVAILABLE, THE UPDATER WILL DOWNLOAD THEM. THE TIMETABLE FOR THOSE PATCH RELEASES IS UP TO THE PUBLISHER DUE TO HOW THEIR PROTECTION SYSTEM WORKS. EDIT: If you receive an error message after using the Updater to download and apply a patch, try this. Edit SETTINGS.INI (using Notepad or similar text editor) and make the following changes; version=1.00.02 to version=1.00.01 location=. to location=%updater% Save the file and run Updater again. It should check the server, download the patch, copy it (from the temp download folder) to the game folder and execute it. [ 12-02-2005, 07:57 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  6. From your posts (and emails) above, as well as your email below; you don't understand how the system works. So, let me explain. Basically, there are NO bugs here. The code that clears a towed object's beached/disabled/sos states when the object is towed to space, resets the flags in both crafts (tractoring and towed). This works as designed, but as a side effect, the tractor's maneuvering state is sometimes also reset. This cancels any turn demanded by the A/P. You can't use CTRL+F if you are right on top (literally) of the object. In your saved game, you are about 20 clicks from the SOS fighter. So naturally, the ship is not going to go anywhere. Trying jumping to a distant jump anomaly, then use CTRL+F back to the fighter and engage the A/P. The AI does not allow crafts to engage disabled or SOS entities. What CTRL+F essentially does what other orders (attack, defend, fly-to etc) do. Since this command engages the FLY-TO order, when you turn on the A/P, if it sees the target as being invalid (disabled, SOS etc), it will cancel it and go in to target search. This is all perfectly valid. I'm going to look into tweaking item #1 at some point. quote: IÔÇÖm sending two more save games. In the first, an NPC shuttle is attempting to tow a disabled SC. In the second, the SOS fighter is being towed by my SC. In these save games, the CC cannot be ordered to Fly To the disabled ship, nor does CTRL-F target the ship. Restore save game NPC CanÔÇÖt Tow (slot 7). Just watch it. The targeted shuttle is just circling the disabled shuttle. Order the CC to Fly To the disabled shuttle. The CC ignores the order and goes into Target Search instead. Try selecting the disabled shuttle in the VDD and pressing CTRL-F to target. The CC ignores this and goes into Target Search instead. Restore save game Tow SOS fighter (slot 6). Again, just watch it. The SC is ordered to Deliver To Idan, but it just sits there. Order the CC to Fly To the SOS fighter. It switches to Target Search. Press CTRL-F to target the SOS Fighter. It switches to Target Search. ItÔÇÖs like these disabled ships canÔÇÖt be targeted, even though they are there.

  8. Rubbish. All of it. Why don't you just STOP posting - and confusing the issues - until I've had a chance to look at your saved game later this week?
  9. I watched it too. I thought it was at least an hour too long. I was bored to tears in some parts. 7/10
  10. quote: Originally posted by Steve Schacher: quote:and considering how long the game has been out, if there were such problems with towing, we'd have already known about it.I did an archive search. People have been reporting this for two years now. Which should - quite obviously - tell you that its not a bug or it would have been researched and fixed; since towing is an integral part of the game. I read those posts and not ONE of them shows ANY signs of any bug in the operation. Ships generally CANNOT be towed unless they are emitting SOS. Being disabled does NOT mean that you can tow a ship because perhaps only the engine is damaged, leaving a bunch of other systems operational and which would otherwise leave the ships internal integrity at a high level; hence, no SOS. If you have UCAWA saved games showing ALL of the symptoms you previously posted, then send it to me with a DETAILED (or it will be deleted) email explaining what - you think - the issue is, and how to reproduce it.
  11. You MIGHT want to try actually READING the manual. Nothing you wrote makes any sense; and considering how long the game has been out, if there were such problems with towing, we'd have already known about it. You might want to find yourself a guinea pig and send them your saved game. Or have them explain to you how it works and why you're experiencing what you're posting. The next time you re-create a thread after it was deleted, you will be temp-banned. You SHOULD know the rules by now!

BUT then I went into the training mission and was flying in to meet the enemys and the game did stop or what people call stutter when it's loading some enemy craft and stuff and then resumes playing. After I shoot down some aircraft all of a sudden it dumps me to desktop. I have NO idea why. I'm still thinking it has to do with this preload thing but you saying it works with 1G and I have 3 is weird. I just wanted a smoother gameplay in which I think I can get. Thanks again! Preloading doesn't cause a crash. All it does is loads models into memory so that the load times are reduced. So, something is going on with your system. Make sure you are running with the latest patch. Make sure you don't post again in a tech support area without registering the game and adding your system info to your forum profile.
  13. Yeah, I love train wrecks. So here is another in this developing story.
  14. Lets see.. You need to register each game separately. So yeah, you did it correctly. Thats how the updater works. If there is a new version, it will tell you. Otherwise it will just quit. No fuss. No muss. The scale is consistent. The internal and external views use different cameras. The collision detect will push you away from an object which is not a support structure. Fighters - unlike cap ships - are not support structures. The bridge and frontend (Logistix, Tactical) systems use a different system. Not sure difficult it is to click a mouse to activate a frontend system. Don't sweat the small [irrelevant] stuff. Click in the TRS for selecting objects using the mouse. Thats why its there. The bridge is not a radar system. The hyperspace jump distance takes into account your velocity, size and size of the target, when it determins how far to emerge. There is no need to configure it because most gamers will just screw it up and wonder why they keep missing their jump target. I trust my computer's AI system more than I trust any gamer's brain cells. The mouse is not used - nor required in external views. So there is no reason to implement mouse zoom just for that. Use the keyboard. It actually works just fine. Go to Config and configure your terrain visibility. Good luck.
  15. Glad to have helped. Windows Installer does some really stupid things sometimes.
  16. Poor Sony. This is turning out to be a really - really - bad fourth quarter. Anyway, you can read this latest farce over here.

  20. Oh yeah!!! I forgot about Supernatural. I like and Tivo that one too. Its quite good.
  21. oh, btw, I need you to tell me the exact error message that you are getting when you try to re-install GCQ.
  22. Try this Open up a CMD prompt Enter msiexec.exe /x {430743C5-6B39-4B9B-9112-E05C9E168748} Try to re-install GCQ again. If that doesn't work; we move to plan D ps: msiexec.exe resides in C:windowssystem32
  23. I like - and Tivo - all three. You're right, Invasion is ponderous. Of the new shows, I also like E-Ring, Criminal Minds and Killer Instinct.
