first mission of the acm campaign (uc)
Supreme Cmdr replied to StanRex's topic in Universal Combat Series
Read the other thread. And don't confuse the scenario completion message to mean you did well. You're just being notified that you survived. I was planning on listing the victory conditions for that campaign, but I keep forgetting. However, I think that I did list some of them in the other thread. -

Dunno really. But I'm sure for $26 you won't find anything; unless maybe a used card on eBay or something. -
MP Fleet Action Tournament

Correct quote: I think the problem arises when you introduce this concept of fleet asset rating or logistic pool. In effect you are proposing a gameplay system that would enforce a one-way method of alliances organising their resources and playing in mp. Frankly, I think thats something that either SC or the alliances will mutually determine for themselves over time.Thats why I'm not saying anything atm because I have no idea why he's making up these rules of play without consulting with the established and authorized fleet leaders. Those decisions are to made by them and passed along to me for final approval. Looking at what he's doing, I was under the impression that he was just doing the background underlying architecture, into which all the rules would be plugged in. So far, this does not seem to be the case and I have received emails and PMs about it already. Funny that I should see your post about these same concerns. At this time, I am not prepared to comment on the rule based aspects - nor is anyone authorized to do so without my expressed permission. Until the framework is actually completed, no rules based discussions are required. Besides, its already become too bloated and complex to be of any use. -
As promised, I have released the 2.00.11 patch which has new stations added, regions revised etc. This should make mp fleet games a bit more standardized. The names of the stations in the game do not contain the fleet names, due to space issues in the VDD. But you can read the VCF to find the fleet station designations, then write them on a printed copy of the revised mp world map. EDIT: The Antilles station is in the Rovarix region and not the Gendar region as indicated in the VCF and the map. This will be corrected in next patch. Check the reg page. The online VCF has also been updated. You have to positively read the VCF before applying this patch. You have been warned. For those of you new to UC. You need to install the v2.00.00 patch first, before installing this patch on top of it. EDIT: Here is the MD5 hash for this patch. You can use a program such as WinMD5 to compare this hash against the file you downloaded. download the patch and copy it into the game install folder. right-click on the MD5 hash file above and use Save-As to download it into the game install folder. Run winMD5 (or similar program) Go to File/Open MD5 file and load the patch MD5 file you downloaded above. Go to File/Open File and load the patch file you downloaded above. If winMD5 reports the status as good, then your patch downloaded correctly and can be used to patch the game. [ 07-09-2004, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

You should have ported the original before you starting pissing around with it further.

So, what exactly is it I am supposed to be looking for? And why do you think that the operation is abnormal? I have deleted the saved game. Next time, I don't want to play ANY guessing games. You have to be CLEAR and PRECISE. I'm not anyone's personal butler. Once you can accurately describe and articulate the problem, feel free to repost and resubmit the saved game.

When the scenario ends, it ends. And there is nothing to fix. -

It leaves the rest to your imagination. Not all movies have to be gory and graphically depictive of violence. Its one of the things that turned me off Blade2 and its ilk. Even when he killed the Lord Marshall, it was artistic, non graphical etc. I didn't whince once. quote: Overall I completely reject pretty much all of your nonsensical "higher critisism" of this flick as rubbish.I agree 100%. Who cares? Why can't he simply be a bad ass? The Lord Marshall's fear of Riddick is straight from the Bible. (my opinion) ...because then there would be no explanation for why he is, who he is or why the Lord Marshall had cause to fear him. Did you listen - carefully - to the description of the Furion race? We knew practically nothing about Riddick in the first movie. He was - as you said - just a bad ass. This movie just ended up giving us a bit of his origin; which in the end, all made sense to me. Without that setup, there would be no explanation of why he could take on the Necromongers.

Pre loading 3d models in multi player?
Supreme Cmdr replied to DeOsprey's topic in General Multiplayer Discussions
The only benefit it will have on the server, is if the server has it turned on. I have it turned off on all the servers as it does increases the server start time in the event of a crash or shutdown. The public mp servers are pretty fast, so 3D model loading is not an issue. You asked a valid question, so no whacking. This time. -
I was considering doing it, but didn't find time to as it requires a tremendous amount of work in adapting the script.

Still has a long way to go before its even anywhere near usable. And where is the map? Why is it not displayed on the main page or do you have to register/login first? -

Why would models loaded on your client have anything to do with the server? -
Universal Combat - First Impressions

My second test rig is similar in config to yours, apart from the graphics card and no overclocking and I get similar pausing as well if I don't have 3D preloading turned on. I run UC at 1024x768 with 2xAA + 4xAF and it looks great, has speed boost when objects are not in the loading stage etc -

And thats just one (the second powerful and my primary test rig) of 11 machines I have here in my lab. The most powerful is a P4 3Ghz with a bunch of different components (e.g. GF 6800 video card). Good heavens, for a rig like that, who would be running a PCI card? So no, I didn't forget. An AGP card is the standard; so if you have one, you don't need to specify it. You only specify PCI if you are still in the dark ages. -
Finished ACM Campaign - SPOILERS!!!

*moved* from deleted thread quote: Originally posted by Meras: Sorry SC, there are lots of posts already about campaign I couldn't find the right one, probably I miss something like the rest of people asking questions here . When I entered Campaign there was only one mission available, is it how it's supposed to be? I spent almost 2-3 hours jumping to another regions of space to meet those guys and escort them. So I finally somehow completed the mission and I got message with congratulation and that I am retired from active duty and that's it. I thought Campaign is something big that opens little by little more and more opportunities, like going through campaign missions. Here is only one mission and that's it... I am a little bit confused, that's the shortest campaign I've ever participated in. Is it how it supposed to be or it's just a little joke of some sort? I mean not ROAM, but CAMPAIGN which is between Roam and Instant action. Thanks. There are many threads (for example) discussing the campaign in the game. You need to set the forum to display all messages in this forum and then troll through the 15+ pages. -
Send in the saved game with a description of the problem and I'll take a quick look. Make sure that your PC date/time is correct. If the ship blows up when you collide with something, thats because a critical system was destroyed during the collision.

I liked it. Plan on seeing it again tomorrow. Despite TN's massive screw-ups (God, she was bad. Just. Plain. Bad), I give it a 9/10. One thing that kept going through my mind the whole time was, ...damn, I gotta make a space flight sim of this!!!.

The phenomenon I'm talking about occurs when you are still fully in HS. For example, if you plot a course that takes you through an enemy station in hyper at a relatively low speed. The hyper meter is still counting down, the speed is still well above anything the ship's realspace engines can attain, and no-one has yet said "emerging from hyperspace". Your nice leetle map is just plain silly and doesn't prove anything. NO target acquisition takes place while a target is fully in hyperspace. NONE. And it has been that way since the very first BC game. quote: Originally posted by Meras: even if graphics sometimes are pretty junky, forgive me for that. But as you said before sometimes you have to sacrifice something in advance to mathematically correct structure of the game. Indeed. Gotta sacrifice something, somewhere. I know whats going to happen in the next game. Going by the upcoming graphics engine overhaul, everyone with anything less than minimum specs for UCE2E, is just going to ***** and moan about performance issues and all that rubbish. Good thing I never get tired of banning people. btw, that "freezing" you are refering to, is related to the massive amount of models, textures etc which have to be loaded. In fact, you can reproduce it from space without ever going to a planet. Just observe the planet, select an mzone using the menus and then count how long it takes to display all the units at the mzone. The only cure for this is a fast CPU, GPU and at least 512MB of memory. There is nothing that I can do about it. Its a LOT of data; and not just the 3D models, but also the terrain mesh, terrain texture, detail mesh, detail mesh texture, clouds etc etc. Which is why I provided options for turning these off. Try turning some things off/on and you will notice a big improvement because the game ships with everything ON. You might also want to try the preload 3D models option as well. If you are flying around in the front view and you don't notice the map regen anomaly; then you notice it in the F10 camera view, what does that tell you? The regen takes more time and is more anomalous at long distances.
