This save game contains a saved game marker used by the *unsupported* Quick Save feature. So, you must have used QS at some point and invalidated your save game. Nothing I can do about it. If you can reproduce the problem with a future *new* game in which you didn't use QS, I'd be happy to investigate further. EDIT: I just noticed that several key components of the game are missing from that saved game. This leads me to believe that the game was patched improperly. You are advised to read the FAQ in the section about starting from scratch with a patch and do just that - with BOTH patches. And while you're at it, please edit your system profile with the correct driver versions that you are using. Failure to do this will result in your profile being deleted. You have 24hrs.

quote: Originally posted by ToxicFrog: First of all, the preliminaries: I've checked both UC fora, the VCF, the FAQ, and ATI's website, and found nothing pertaining to this. I also updated my graphics drivers (again), but no dice. Turning off detail meshes fixes this, of course, but then I don't have them at all. When I first made planetfall, I noticed that the ground detail meshes just abruptly ended, rather than extending to the view distance or fading out. At first I thought this was by design, but then I found the Postcards Thread, and it looks like they're smoothly blended there. Contrast with bridge, high left, ground level, near, and far. It looks fine on foot, and produces a nifty wobbling effect if I pan around the CC and the ground under it shifts, but based on the other screenshots I don't think it's meant to do this. Fiddling with ground detail textures, bitdepth, and suchlike appears to have no effect, and nor does switching between fullscreen and windowed mode. Has anyone else seen this effect, or knows how to fix it? Those postcard shots should be a strong indication that the problem is with your video card and drivers. Nothing can be done about it. Find the best video card + driver that works for you. And there is already a thread for this; so yours has been deleted. EDIT: I just came back from Centris (in fact, thats where parts of the tutorial take place) and my graphics from a 32bit desktop, no pissing around in the options screen, and using Catalyst 4.4 drivers on my 9800 Pro, look way better than yours. So, you had better start by deleting the options UCCONFIG.INI file so that the game creates a default one, set your desktop to 32bit etc etc if you want improved visuals - based on whatever driver works for you. This was so funny, I had to post it here. And this ranks up there with my all time favorites Ah, the life and times of a tech support geek. -
This WIPO crap is so funny, I don't know whether to laugh or just cut to the chase and just pee on myself.

A young guy from Texas moves to California and goes to a big "everything under one roof" department store looking for a job. The manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says, "Yeah, I was a salesman back home in Texas." Well, the boss liked the kid so he gave him the job. "You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did." His first day on the job was rough but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down. "How many sales did you make today?" The kid says, "One." The boss says, "Just one? Our sales people average 20 or 30 sales a day. How much was the sale for?" The kid says, "$101,237.64." The boss says, "$101,237.64? What the hell did you sell?" The Kid says, "First I sold him a small fish hook. Then I sold him a medium fish hook. Then I sold him a larger fish hook. Then I sold him a new fishing rod. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down at the coast, so I told him he was gonna need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him that twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4X4 Blazer" The boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and truck?" The Kid says, "No, he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his wife and I said, 'Well, your weekend's shot, you might as well go fishing.'"

I am starting this thread because, despite the fact that multiplayer is documented in the printed manual as well as in the manual addendum PDF file and the FAQ, we've received emails, I've seen posts and I've received PMs about this same topic. People, listen to me... The game installer created a program shortcuts group with several shortcuts. One of them - locate in the multiplayer group - is named Join MP Server. For the love of mankind, n00bs the world over *and* my sanity, please read the manual p89-91 before clicking on this shortcut to join a server. If you are running a firewall (as I hope you are!!!) or are behind a router, you need to read the game FAQ which also has an HTML shortcut called Troubleshooting FAQ. Once this file is displayed in your browser, scroll down to the multiplayer section. There you will find info about what ports you need to open or forward in your firewall or router. If when you start the multiplayer shortcut you don't see any servers displayed (after a few seconds) or if you see unnamed, then your firewall/router is blocking the packets. And don't forget to ensure that your router has the latest firmware. e.g. using the Linksys BEFSR11 router, unless you have the latest firmware, packets will be sent out of order and cause all sorts of problems. Once you have located the shortcut, have started it, you can see the servers etc you can just join a server as indicated in the manual. If you are attempting to join the three 3000AD public servers (#1-3), be sure that you have previously accessed the registration page and have obtained and written down the server password. For more info, read this. When prompted, just enter it and you will be able to connect. Without a password, you will not be able to connect to our servers or any password protected servers. Assuming you have printed the manual addendum (pointed to by the Manual Revisions shortcut), you can read the multiplayer section for any updated information that you may need. e.g. the new chat interface and other multiplayer related items. And WHATEVER you do, don't even THINK of going online to play, unless you have spent at least 2+ days playing the single player game AND the tutorial. The map of the mp galaxy is located in the appendiximagesmaps folder where the game is installed. The file is called galaxy_map_links_mp.jpg. Print it. Oh yeah, go join a fleet. Universal Combat Tutorial Discussions

Did you read the part above where I talk about the effects of tow chaining? It might be an issue with daisy chain towing, dunno. I will make a note of it and look at it when I have fewer more important things to worry about. -
Capturing stations.. a different idea.
Supreme Cmdr replied to Malakie-USN's topic in Universal Combat Series
I have no plans to change the capture system nor do I have any plans to add any new features to UC. -
quote: Originally posted by street: but it sounds like your problems are probably more related to the quicksave, Indeed. If you use QS at the wrong time, that is enough to throw a variable or two out of whack and compromise the integrity of the saved game. There is no known recovery from it - hence the reason QS is not supported. I have no idea why I went ahead and enabled it (it is disabled in the retail game).

The next patch already has some code that will warp the drone (or any vehicle) right side up if they ever end up under the terrain. So, can we stop trolling the thread now?

Universal Combat - First Impressions

No, I don't want a screen shot. Thats how it works. Particles dissipate over time. -
Stormshadow, you are not in the fleet dB, so you have to re-register. Anyone answering a roll call should ensure that they are either in the fleet dB and if not, go register and wait for approval by the leaders.
-
Grayfox, you're not in the fleet dB. Did you read the part where I said to re-register and wait for approval?
-
Yesterday, Cmdr Flax was in the Prime fleet recruit pool. This morning he was still there. I had to approve him. The next time I have to approve recruits, I'm going to reprimand someone.

Fleets General Info Pinboard
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Effective Immediately. [*]I have made some rank designation revisions within the Ter/Mil alliance. e.g. wing/fleet commanders are now at Strategic Commander rank; and co-commanders are at Fleet Commander rank. In instances where co-commanders are required, the co-commander has a higher or lower security level access. This primarily ensures that in the absence of one, the other can handle the fleet, check for new recruits etc etc. [*]Cmdr. $ilk (aka Dan Cooper), is now Orion's Fleet Leader, with security level 2. I also changed his commander name from Cooper (no wonder I had no clue who the hell he was). [*]Until further notice (read: until I know wtf is going on), Cmdr Zane Marlowe has been dropped down to Wing Leader of Orion. [*]Cmdr. Remo and Marvin are commander and co-commander of Prime fleet with security level 3. Cmdr. Gudhil remains alliance leader at large (whatever that means) with security level 4. [*]Until further notice, S.C.I.D will remain under EarthCom - and the Primus fleet may be disolved (once I figure out why the EarthCom leaders decided to have two fleets). [*]Cmdr. Dreada is now commander of Wraith fleet with security level 3 [*]Cmdr. Quazar is now fleet leader of the Primus EarthCom flee with security level 2. -

He is a great leader, and a very responsible individual. But as always, I will abide by your decisions. You see, this is the part I hate. You ladies were NOWHERE to be found when I was threatening to shakeup the fleets. But no, as soon as I start making decisions, I get to read stuff like this - when you all had the chance to step up and speak up. I don't even know who the hell Dan Cooper is. Hence the reason I have asked everyone to ensure that their fleet dB name, matches their forum name - or they will be flushed from the dB as I come across those are not in compliance.
