  1. uhm, I'm not sure what you're talking about, but it sounds like you have the UK release of the game. It comes in a DVD case. The galaxy map is printed behind the case jacket and the keyboard sheet is......in the two back pages of the manual. Page 49-50 to be exact.

You received it from where? What does the package contain, what does it look like etc?
  3. quote: Originally posted by Joel Schultz: Um, this is probably a configuration bug, or else a deliberate configuration policy on the part of board Admins. Why is using HTML in a post not enabled in all forums? Right after your active brain kicks in, you will realize that those are the new forums and UBB by default has HTML disabled. When I created the new forums I didn't change any configurations. I'll do that later when I find time.

Awww that's a bummer. I was looking forward to seeing it on the CD. Oh well. I just hope it's released very soon after I buy UC. Did you forget that the game was being rushed by the publisher? Where - in all the crap thats been going on - was there time for me to piss around with this [freebie] instead of rushing to get them an RC2 build so that the RC1 build does not ship. Get a grip.
  7. hey, no fair!!! What'd I miss?
  8. quote: Originally posted by zardalu: I gather that it was not released because it changes the world dataset, is that right? Is this one of the tools you were referring to in the above quote, or will we have access to it eventually? That tool was retired back in 1999 and was last used in BC3K. It is not used in BCM or later tiles, having been replaced by PTEstudio - which I'm not going to release for reasons I mentioned related to changing the world dataset. quote: Also, per the above quote, does this mean for example that I could model and introduce an alien city to a planet by setting it up as a mzone or scene? I gather that this would not be construed as editing the world dataset, but am I correct? You can't do it without PTEstudio quote: Finally, you mention in the first sentence of the second paragraph that, because 3D world entities (like stations) are scripted, it will be possible to move them. But in the next couple of lines, you mention that messing around with system scripts (ie changing the default location of stations, etc) will probably get us into trouble. So can we move stations or not?Is it not clear that (a) stations are scripted, so they can be moved? ( that you would get in trouble if you moved them? quote: I understand that I should probably wait for the GBS III documentation,Good idea. GBS-III will be available for download sometime after the game is released.
  9. Bastards!! That sounds a lot like Tacops to me. Hold the phones!! Am calling my attorneys!
  10. quote: Originally posted by jzmuir: I met a few Indians living on a Pomo reservation north of SF. Know what they do? None of them has ever had a job, or even applied for one. They sit around on the reservation and do nothing. They drink a fair bit, smoke some weed, and sit around and dream up bullshit to tell the anthropologists when they come along and ask questions about their "native lifestyle." Well, think about it. There are lots of societies in which this happens. Ever go into a Black neighborhood? Or a redneck town? No difference. So, why should the Indians be held to a different standard? Oh I get it, unlike the similarly steroetyped ghetto blacks and white rednecks, these indians are asking the man to pay them. Well gee, last time I looked, some of these stereotypes were on welfare. Not sure what the difference is. Anyway, this whole farce with the native indians is just plain controversial and is never going to end. But the fact is, some of these reservations are making a killing in gambling and other enterprises and I suspect the govt. wants a piece of this untouchable action.
  11. quote: Originally posted by Banquet: I also noticed how much more willingly people revealed themselves to be totally deranged compared to people u meet on the street, and gradually the novelty wore off. LMAO!! It was more of a shock for me when they came up with the graphical interface. Until then, we the elites were using offline message downloaders (forgotten the names now) so that you could logon, grab all new messages, logoff, read offline, reply, logon again to upload. Man, that was too cool. Total bees knees stuff.
  12. quote: Originally posted by Epsilon 5: i always found odd to have no nightvision on starships / fighters / shuttles, but hey, that's another topic This was in both BC3K titles but never made it into BCM and higher because I clean forgot about it. No, its not in UC either, but given time, I might add something similar to the DIE IVM mode. Funny thing is, when I was writing and testing UC scripts, I can't remember how many gunships I trashed during a nighttime mission. I knew I was missing something in that equation. Now I remember. heh. But its fun flying NOE at 200' in hostile territory.....until you ram into the side of a mountain.

  16. Man, I remember The Well, bix, cix (when I was back in the UK), delphi, genie and compuserve (back when it was a text interface and later they had a WIN31 graphics interface). I subscribed to all of them at one point or another. Then came AOhell. *sigh* those were the days. You took one look at your phone bill at the end of the month, and got a near heart attack. This brings back fond memories of my trusty Amstrad computer (which I had back in the UK) and other fond memories, such as my Viglen (another PC clone and I worked for the company for a while).
  17. quote: Originally posted by Splad: the internet was more fun when most people didn't know how to use it Ah yes, those were the days.
  18. quote: Originally posted by Mungo: Thanks for the replies O.K So if I get a 3rd machine can I run 1 of my two existing copies on it as a server and still connect with the same copy from my machine? Or will I need a 3rd copy for the dedicated server? Yes. All you need is two copies if you are only going to be running one server. But seriously though, you really shouldn't need a third machine if you have a powerful machine on which to run both a client and server. I have a machine here with a PIV 2Ghz cpu, 512MB RAM and I can run a server (minimized) and client just fine. In fact, thats the machine I tested it on. Unfortunately I have not had time to finish cleaning up the console server (since it does not use graphics and thus has less processing requirements than a client) and probably won't since its a freebie that wasn't released with the game. But I am going to be looking into getting one finished for UC at some point. If you are only going to be playing one-on-one on a LAN, a machine spec'ed for 2-4 players (as per the FAQ) will work just fine as a dedicated server. It doesn't have to be a supa-dupa machine.
