CALS don't work (or don't know how to use)
Supreme Cmdr replied to claudedavid's topic in Battlecruiser Series
It depends on the terrain and your altitude. As Wolferz said, it is an A/P system, so its not perfect. You really shouldn't activate it at anything higher then 1000 ft altitude. -

So please refrain from asking me anything related to this issue. IF you see the game on the shelve and you want to buy it, be my guest. Its your money. Dreamcatcher Europe is a division of Dreamcatcher Canada. As such, if an injunction is successfull, it will apply to Dreamcatcher and every single licensee of my IP because I didn't license the IP to any entity but Dreamcatcher - and they have sub-licensing rights. -

UC Dev Status - Ship it or give it another month?

I have been given the all clear to move this thread back into the public domain as there is not libelous against the publisher, contained within. -
The first online review of Universal Combat by Homelan Fed, is online. Its light on content (Homelan are not known for long, convoluted reviews), but you'll get the picture. [ 02-25-2004, 09:00 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

UC Dev Status - Ship it or give it another month?

quote: Originally posted by Convoolio: UC currently listed as $39.99 at Dreamcatcher . Hope this means you won the fight SC. Or has the fight not even started? No, they haven't even bothered to change it yet. The fight started the minute they confirmed to me that they were going ahead with this move. As I posted here, I expect nothing less than another victory against this publisher. As far as orders go, I cannot advise you folks on what to do or not do. That would be interfering with their business (they still have the rights to the game, despite this farce) and leave myself open to a lawsuit if I do that. What I have posted is clear. This is not the price point for the game. If you buy the game at that price point, there is a very good chance that you won't get any support for it because we won't have any money to support it and the contract would be in dispute and undergoing litigation. I am NOT asking you or stopping you - or ANYONE - from buying, pre-ordering the game or canceling your pre-order. With all the information at hand, you should be able to make your own decisions. After all, its your money. If this goes bad, you would have paid $20 for, well, a demo. -
Since BCM, the BC suite of games have had first person perspective *outside* the ship. The 3rd person mode is not for gameplay purposes - unless you want to get shot in the head a lot.

ah, right, got it. Will fix tomorrow.

quote: Originally posted by Grizzle: Provided there is speedy litigation, will you support UC if you make money through the law suit? It sounds to me as if you are washing your hands of it all and consider UC to be a dead product even before it's released. Not really. If I can prevent them from actually shipping it, thereby getting them to release it at an industry standard price point, the problem goes away. If I don't succeed and it goes out at that, then there would probably be some sort of damages etc and which would end up compensating us for the shortfall in whatever units they had shipped at the time. Naturally, if we do get a court injunction, then it causes them problems with the retailers. At the end of the day, I cannot support the game if I can't make money from it. How could I? From where I'm sitting, if they sell it at that prince - compromise or not - they'd have to give me double my royalty rates. I can't see that happening. So, I've now come out with all guns blazing and nobody is going to blame me for the end result. Especially given everythin this publisher has done to us. Fact is. They are NOT going to get away with it. Period. I'd die first, before I see that happen. -

You also do understand that my games are designed based on my ideas and how my brain works right? Good. Once you've answered yes to both of the above, it should be immediately obvious that I won't design and develop a game if I didn't intend on playing it or if was beyond my intellect, abilities and skill sets. In short - wait for it - I'm considered a genius. Pure and simple. As such, there is nothing simple about me, nor my games. And the people who buy, play and grasp my games, are of similar or matching intellect, standing and desirous of a challenge. If wanted to develop mass market rubbish, I would have. And I'd be richer for it. But I prefer to stick with what I know and what I do well - and if a bunch of people out there share my desires and ideas, so much the better because it just means that I have that many guinea pigs to drag along with me on the next idea wave.

Or are they guaranteed some kind of fixed margin? Someone was thinking the same thing. Here is my response. Basically if spent $10 on something, then gave it to someone to sell, and that person spent $1 on it, they can sell it for $1.25 and not lose any money. That is exactly what is going on in this case. -

quote: Originally posted by AWD2: Well, all I can say is good luck. It would be a shame not to have post release support (always a nice thing to have just in case). Since I have NO intentions of charging for patches (in order to fund post-release support), it looks like everyone will have to wait for either the Gold release or an add-on, neither of why DC has rights to. -
Just to let you folks know that until further notice, I have dropped all plans to release a demo for the game. I was planning on releasing it this weekend after wrapping up some final testing on the five included scenarios. Since the publisher has decided to sell the game at a budget level pricing, releasing a demo is no longer worth the effort. Sorry, but thats the way it is. The game will be out week of Feb 7th, you can just buy it then.

UC Dev Status - Ship it or give it another month?
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in News
Well, it looks like this publisher and I are destined for the courts, regardless of my best efforts to avert this. Yesterday, in this thread, it came to my attention that EB had the price of UC set at $19.99. So I decided to do some checking and found this to be the case. So I checked GameStop as well. Same thing. Though Gogamer and a few others had the previous pricing. I just noticed today that Amazon have also revised the pricing from what it was yesterday. When I checked with DC, I was informed that this was the price they had set, due to pressure from those retailers. So I did some more checking and found this to be - yet another lie coming from this publisher. Naturally, I have objected because when we signed this game, the price of BCM Gold (released in March this year) was set at $29.99 and BCG (now UC) at $39.99. As you all know, I recently prevented them from shipping the game in Beta and because they insisted on shipping the game - any version - my attorneys talked me into giving them a version to ship. Had I not done that, they would naturally have shipped the RC1 build, which was the topic of the controversy in this thread. I have no idea when they changed the price of the game but they never informed me. Which they should have. When Lisa checked last week (someone had sent email asking where to buy the game), the prices were as they appeared on Amazon, GoGamer etc etc. So, it looks like they waited until they got the 1.00.01 build from me, then made this their next ridiculous move in an attempt to seemingly tarnish the value of my IP and indeed prevent us from making money on two years of our work and a ton of money spent (by me). I suspect they did this because in a recent contract amendment, they would no longer have access to any future properties from us, most especially not the UC sequel that we have started work on (and which they know about) for another interested publisher. Because of how the deal is structured and given how we are paid, we stand zero chance of making ANY money on this game, let alone turn a profit for our efforts. And with that, we certainly won't have the money to allocate resources to its support. Which means, this particular UC game - unless this matter is resolved prior to the game going to retail - will be the one and only version released. No patches. No tweaks. Nothing. In other words, its Take Two all over again - except that in the case of this game, it actually works. We [3000AD] fully intend to litigate this because this is just ridiculous. Below is a very short list of things this publisher has done to us since we signed the deal with them in Dec. 2002. Never made milestone payments on time. Perhaps one or two, thats it. Asked me to prepare a version of the game for E3, then asked me to attend. I went. The game wasn't even being shown. But rather, other games, including Painkiller etc, were on display. There is a discussion about that farce here on the board. When I got there, I protested and they setup a machine for the game etc. Naturally, you've all seen the positive E3 feedback as a result. Asked me - while in late Beta - to refocus and rebrand the game. After extensive discussions related to my initial refusal, I agreed. We weren't paid for the additional work that was done - which incidentally contributed to the delay in getting the game out for Christmas. Which in turn, sparked the whole RC1 release farce. Once it was clear - and they had been advised - that the game would not be ready to ship for Christmas, they attempted to ship the RC1 build, which had known problems and a copy protection scheme that only I could disable. You all know conclusion of this, as I fought tooth and nail and spent a considerable amount of money in attorney fees in order to stiffle that action. After they had gone back/forth with my attorneys an agreement was reached in which I would submit to them my current build of the game. I did so and during that time, they had me fix several issues (multiplayer) before signing off on it as being ready. That version being 1.00.01 I then produced a Gold Master and sent to them. That was also signed off on and was sent off to manufacturing - I'm told - earlier this week. Then there is the ongoing dispute about royalty and licensee reporting on BCM Gold - which they promised to rectify and still haven't. In fact, it was because of this that the trust level started taking a nose dive a few months back. I can't go into contractual detail unless and until legal action has been taken by us. Now we have this issue where they have unilaterally reduced (by half!!) the price of our game to budget level pricing, guaranteeing that we don't make any money on our work. Yet, they would expect us to support it. This is just crazy. I simply can't imagine what they're thinking or what sort of response they would get from me. If I wanted to release a budget title, I certainly won't have needed a publisher for that, since I had already self-published BCM back in 2001. And I certainly would not have signed with Dreamcatcher, when I could have released a budget title through larger players (e.g. Activision Value) etc. [ 01-29-2004, 03:22 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -

Co-op & NPC generation request
Supreme Cmdr replied to Part-Human's topic in General Multiplayer Discussions
I had since enabled this to a limited extent in the (BCMG/UC) server. If the server has AG on, then there will be NPC fighters in hostile territory. I will probably get around to doing the same on planetary bases. I just have to add marines to the bases etc. No, I don't plan on doing this in BCM Gold. -
Silly wankers. Is that the best they could come up with? sheesh
