Epsilon5, then next time you post a follow-up, please put it in the relative thread, thanks. [ 12-18-2001: Message edited by: GREG MILLER ] Ah. It just figures its be under a crpytic subject. I hardly read the stuff in that forum and a one entitled "Here it is" was certainly not on my radar. So, I've changed it.

quote: Originally posted by Blades: Wembley huh? Urghh, I feel for you. Tell me about it. And I lived about 5 mins from the stadium. Getting into and out of my neighborhood during a game, was a b*tch. And going through the back way through streets and streets littered with Indian shops and markets, was no picnic either. Luckily, it was a short stay in that neighborhood since it was an interim home while waiting for the one in Watford to be finished. And going to/from work (I worked over at Seymour street in the city) was no picnic either - especially since I refused to take the train. Edgeware road is a frigging pain coming from Wembley. It still is. [ 12-18-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

BCM review at GameSpy. Its not due out until Saturday, but they were kind enough to allow me to link to it. In light of the GameSpot review, I'm very appreciative. This one holds the trend : good game, so-so graphics etc. All in all a well written and objective review - regardless of the score. Well worth reading. Before you vets start clamouring about that graphics bit, I sent him email explaining why he can fly through things, including planets, while in hyperspace. Not a big deal. Any space Anomalies worth looking out for ?
Supreme Cmdr replied to JAY's topic in Universal Combat Series
There's a probe somewhere in Obsidia emitting a squawk code. Worth investigating. I have been working on another ACM scenario which is related to that probe. Will upload it when I'm done. It will have even the vets pulling out their hair. -
quote: Originally posted by actrade: The one area that he does score some points with me Derek, is about the use of acronyms in the manual. I found myself constantly flipping back and forth in the manual trying to remember what MTAR, etc. meant. Perhaps this speak is no problem for veterans, but for newbies, I did find it more difficult than it needed to be. I did serve 6 years active duty USAF, so I know how easy it is to speak in acronyms I thought he missed the boat as far as complaining about gameplay as I find it refreshing to play a game that isn't tightly scripted, while others will claim the game "wanders." Go figure. Indeed - but talking about such trivial issues such as acronyms while blantantly missing important gaming aspects e.g. the game's AI, the range of units etc, is just inexcusable. PLUS, its not like the acronyms are not explained. EACH one is described during its first use. So its not like you come across CVD and go wtf?!?

quote: Originally posted by Darien Wolfe: *pokes his nose in and nods to the SC, where in the UK were you Derek?* I've lived in various places, including Bayswater, Kensington, Wembley, Watford and Brighton (used to work there in the Summer) including being holed up with some chic in Leavesden. Current is Bayswater. Derek McSmart. LMAO!!! [ 12-18-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

To boldly go where no BCM player has gone before...

Yeah!! I wanna know too -
LOL!!! Talk about run-by posting; they're just as bad as drive-by shootings
-
uhm, if everything is alright now...whats the problem then?

IMO, the review lacks imagination. I don't know how many times I have to repeat this, but if I wanted to develop a rail shooter, I'd have done it. Its really THAT simple. *sigh*

quote: Originally posted by Paddy Gregory: Wait! Before you slam me, this is a not a tech-support issue, more of a comparison and tip request. I get pretty low framerates, even in just free flight/non-combat situations (20 - 25 fps), if there's a battle going on it can drop down to 6 - 7 fps. I never run the game higher than 800 x 600, 16 bit everything, bitmap contrails etc. Your rig barely meets the game's minimum requirements. As such, you shouldn't be running higher than 640x480

Its not a bug. That state is not saved. Why would it be? Why would anyone want to save the game during a HJ? And if you've jumped, you've used up the Radine. Whats the problem exactly? [ 12-18-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -

quote: Originally posted by Paddy Gregory: Hey SC, the ski season is nearly upon us. Strap on those Salomens and take to the piste....or are you, God forbid, Snowboarder type? Ski? Ski? The closest I've ever gotten to skiing is sliding down the wooden banisters in my old house in the UK. And even then, I usually ended up careening through the front door and straight outside. Stupid cousin. Twerp could never get anything right. *g* Pah! Me on the slopes. You've gotta be kidding me. It'd be like, well, suicide, to get me on the slopes.

quote: Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Hamblin is gone for good. He did a personnal attack on Derek, and it's not the first time. He's not hiding it too. And he'd probably do it again if he was given the chance. In fact he does it from time to time on irc and icq... Yep. And I know about it too. He just didn't know that I knew. The post on HomeLan Fed was just the last straw.

Yes, two threads about the same thing. What are the odds of that happening?

Marines already do something similar. They take prisoners during skirmishes with intruders. But its rare - especially since intruders usually fight to the death. -

Check the FAQ. It covers mouse related issues. -
Well, they've always hated me over there. So, this comes as no surprise. Whatever you do, don't lose it. Gamers sell games. Nah, the review I thought, was well written and informative in some respects. He didn't like the game, he didn't like it. Nothing wrong with that, is there? Besides, GameSpot have always made me the whipping boy over the years (and I've cussed them time and time again - I still have the emails), so, this comes as no surprise. Don't take my word for it. Search the site. My issues with the review, apart from the low score, are that (a) he *assumes* that the fp mode was meant to compete with fp shooters ( he says the objects aren't large and to scale. Thats just pure bollocks. I doubt that he even bothered to check that out before writing it. I suppose he thinks his view of the outside space world is through a fish-eye lens. You guys who don't have the game and have the time, just try it. Exit the ship in fp mode and zoom out. In fact, GALCOM HQ is 7 miles high x 17.3 miles wide x 17.3 long. And thats one of the smaller stations! © then he goes on to compare my own home grown sci-fi franchise with the likes of Star Wars...not to mention Babylon 5, of which even Sierra (and all the Vivendi millions) couldn't do a game on. Its a review and he is entitled to his opinion. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. The fact is, if reviews sold games (and not fans), IWAR2, which got an 8.9 (reviewed by Desslock, a damn good reviewer if you ask me) would have sold a lot more units than BCM. And its been out four months in the US and on wide release. Yes, it tanked miserably in the US. As did the first title. The point is, games stand on their own merits and a game's fan base sells it. Here is their BC3K review [ 12-17-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
