  1. ...and don't go screwing around with video card options!!! CAN'T YOU READ!?!. The FAQ CLEARLY says that Z-Buffer item is for nVidia cards only. The last time I looked, the Voodoo3 was NOT an nVidia card. *sheesh* [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 03-26-2001).]
  2. Do you have enough disk space? Did you defrag your disk? Are you sure the download is not corrupt? Installshield won't update the Windows Installer unless it finds an older version. Its the first thing it does.
  3. ...actually, I took that shot standing ON a beach on the shores of a large ocean.
  4. ShoHashi, I know sometimes its hard to actually understand the question. Lets see if you get it right this time. WTF DOES IT SAY IN THE CREDITS!?! Yes, it has my name - but having my name in there (though I NEVER worked on the game), and you infering it immortalizes me, means that there is more to just having MY name on there. Jesus H. Christ, just how HARD could this question be, to answer? Tell you want, forget it, I'll just send them email. I'm sure they'd give me the answer. sheesh
  5. Well, just like the free version of BC3K released back in '98 and the v2.0 demo, the BCM demo has blown most online download charts. This email below, from the DemoNews folks, pretty echos the same sentiments I got from the FilePlanet and other folks. Imagine that!!! If they think THIS was good - just wait until Episode 2] is released within the next two weeks. quote: Hi Derek, Gotta congrat you. BCM is one of the most popular games over such a short period of time. Only CounterStrike have beaten you. I didn't think that many of the DemoNews visitors would find it so interesting. anyway, congrats on a good game! Keep me informed about new updates / releases . You can see the number of downloads here: http://www.demonews.com/games/battlecruisermillennium.asp Kind regards, Johnny Cedergren // DemoNews.com Website : http://www.demonews.com
  6. hehe, you just became victim of a feature that is WIP. The ability to remain at a station, in real-time, when you dock. Right now, when you dock, the outside world is paused. At some point, this will change so that when you dock at a station, you are there and have access to the views etc. You can then either launch or login. If you are docked at the station when it goes boom!, its Game Over man. While docked at a station in real-time, you will have access to all its external views (just like in your ship) as well as Tacops. So, while you are there (maybe you are waiting for repairs to complet), you can still monitor Tacops and see if the station is under attack, as well as observe the traffic etc. Know whats cool about this? Say you are trading and then dock. But they don't have an item that you are waiting for. You could hang around until some traders or commercial vessels dock to resupply the station - and maybe they'd bring the items you are looking for. And since there are no limits, you can hang around at the station indefinitely - and if it comes under attack, you can borrow one of its fighters and join in the fray, while your CC is still docked there. ....and thats only the half of it.
  7. quote: Speaking of Serious Sam, SC, did you know that you are immortalized in the credits? What do you mean?
  8. quote: I had a blast! Unfortunately, I've been told that doing this will make the game unstable so remember to get everything back to their original settings when you're done. As long as you don't SAVE the file, nothing will be affected.
  9. We're not taking bug reports nor QA sessions on the demo. Just play and have fun. If the other Beta testers want to chime in, thats fine. But please don't direct questions at me, hoping that I'm going to respond - as I probably won't. Thanks
  10. There won't be any manual docking in BCM. The feature was dropped, even though all the stations have internal docking bay. I plan on implementing this in GCO, however. Strobe lights and contrails are NYI
  11. OK, the problem with the assert error has been found and fixed. This fix will also be in the E2 demo. The problem occurs because the demo runs in non-debug mode and there is a particular error that is trying to record to a non-existent debug file. This error relates to NPC transports docking with stations and resupplying them. To fix this error in the demo, do the following: delete the default BCM DEMO shortcut (you can't modify it) Create a new BCM DEMO shortcut (which points to BCM.EXE) and add the /d1 parameter at the end. If you do it right, the shortcut target should look like "C:Program Files3000ADBattlecruiser Millennium DemoBCM.EXE" /d1 [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 03-23-2001).]
  12. quote: But then the question is... what is the plan for the active/passive radar option (the R toggle key)? ....it is a left-over from one of my harebrained ideas back in v1.0. The plan was to have it so that if you are in passive mode, you are not giving off an active ping. Which means that if you were BVR, (Beyond Visual Range) they can't see you, you can't see them (no blips in Tacscan). I am going to finish up that code though - I just keep forgeting.
  13. I have a redirector on the root of the old server until Internic do the switch. Wait until this happens, then clear your cookies from your site preferences (top right corner) and everything will be fine.
  14. The new ISP is on the East coast, so I've updated it now. I think Justin used an old database backup when he setup the new MySQL databases on the new site. I've sent him email and asked him to copy the databases from the old site to the new site. Everything should be fine by tomorrow.
  15. Yes, radar ranging is different in BCM - but not in the way that you might think. Rather than make the game even more complex, you and NPCs, can still see across the region, but you have to be within range to do anything about it. In other words, NPCs won't attack you beyond weapons range or even launch alert 5 craft beyond their breach range. e.g. if a station has a breach range of 250KM, they will ignore you until you come within this range. Its not that they can't see you, they just won't bother until you pose a clear and present threat. I was planning on going with an all out radar blackout based on range - but decided against it, for gameplay reasons. The game is already too complex as it is. For one thing, right now, you can cruise past a hostile station, and as long as you are not within its radar weapons or ship launch range, they will ignore you. In BC3K, no matter how far you were, you would still be prosecuted.
  16. quote: On a personal note: I'll take the Commander's response to my last post as a "Thanks for your comments... and for taking interest in my game." No. It means SFTU already - I'm tired of reading your incessant sh*t. Since the tame version wasn't good enough for you, there's the version you wanted. I have a feeling that your next response is going to get you banned.
  17. You can send it zipped or unzipped. btw, cool sig you got there. You are a marked man, my friend - multiplayer is coming.
  18. quote: Please add player boarding to the higher priority list it would add so much and rock so hard. ..yeah right.
  19. Steel Rockard: I have no further comment. Kush: quote: I check the version control file daily to see if the terrain engine has been installed yet. The VCF only refers to versions already on release to testers or incoming. It does not reflect my internal version. The new terrain engine has been working for some time now, but has not yet been released to the external beta team. quote: Get the new terrain in there, multiplayer, get all that solid and then worry about getting the demo rock solid. Do me a favor. Please REFRAIN from telling us what to do. When you can't help yourself, take a deep breath and sit on your fingers. Tyrn already addressed most of your post, but I just want to add that the demos WILL use whatever kernel is released at the time. If you spent your time READING the BCM demo readme, you won't waste your time typing up inconsequential and irrelevant stuff.
  20. Did you MISS the installation issues thread? wtf is the matter with you people? quote: admin/cat, please delete this post once his post appears in the proper forum. Thanks
  21. This problem recently popped up and I've been working with the Beta testers to try and isolate it. It seems to be happening under certain conditions - but so far, we don't have a clue. And since it is difficult to reproduce (I can't reproduce it), it remains a pending issue. Hopefully, it will be discovered and squashed prior to the E2 demo. If you can find out how to reproduce it, please let me know. Another most helpful thing you could do is Create a new BCM DEMO DEBUG shortcut. This time, add /d4 /w to the commandline target so that the shortcut looks like this "C:Program Files3000ADBattlecruiser Millennium Demobcm.exe" /d4 /wThis will start BCM in a window and in debug mode. As soon as the game crashes with this error, look in the folder where BCM is installed and send ALL the files with .INI and .LOG extension to [email protected] [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 03-20-2001).]
  22. Another fine example of the kind of community we've got here. Pioneer, our newest member, has created an HTML BCM Keyboard Commands for use by people without MS Word. Dig it!
  23. Transporting is not range based. So yes, they can board you from clear across the region or from the station. The Beta testers had requested some relaxing of the boarding rules and I have made a note of a few things that I'd like to do. Expect some relaxation of the boarding rules, shortly. Also, I have, in my todo list, the ability to have you board other command crafts and stations with your own troops using shuttles or transporter. In fact, the new Perscan was designed to do just that and currently supports it. As you would be able to use it to track your troops on the target ship, as you would in your own ship. This will give you the ability to know when to get them the hell outta there when things get hot. Unfortunately, this feature is way down on my wishlist and probably won't make it into the first game release, but will DEFINITELY appear in a patch - since I'm notorious for doing stuff like that (adding new stuff, along with bug fixes, in patches). Once the first person, terrain and multiplayer are 100% finished, this is the first wishlist (my wishlist, damnit ) item that I plan on addressing.
  24. There is a dedicated demo discussion forum. Please post there.
  25. If you have an older version of the Windows Installer on your machine, Installshield will upgrade it. This will result in a system reboot. If you have any virus checker or other programs running during install, they could cause a problem with Installshield, causing the installer to hang or take a while to complete. You are advised to terminate any and all such programs before attempting to install BCM. BCM is designed to run under WIN98/WIN98SE/WINME/WIN2K. WINNT and WIN95 are NOT supported.
