BC vets on the newbreed of newbies
gnowor replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Universal Combat Series
quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Most: Woohoo...i guess i'm a vet now. Its just good to see the forums alive and kicking with new questions and new problems that remind me of when i first picked up BCMG. And i think SC only got mad at me once...yeah and Eclipse edited my post once. But i made it...i'm one of the few. Yeah, this new breed have it easy. They missed all the fun and are only just showing up now that there are few problems and the series has matured. Lucky b*stards. I think the reason you're getting the supern00b now is that you're geting a bunch of people who have been playing BC3K (2.0) and BCM for all this time but just never bothered posting. Now that we've got a clean game that we walk away from because we have commitments in the real world and don't walk away because we're so pissed about losing the last 3 hours of work to a CTD (I swear, if I never got a single CTD in BC3K I would've beat the ACM 5 times and not just once). UC is definitely an accomplishment SC. If there are any doubts, look at how few CTD threads there are in Tech Support. And to think, we've got this few and we're only at 1.00.02 just wait till 1.01. . -Gnowor P.S. The reason I post? The SC gave me entertainment, and I figure I can give him some while he reads my posts. -

It's going to use the same ammount of radine regardless. Radine is going to chew up your budget for awhile. Only time I've really found solar panels useful is when A. I was stupid and let my ship run out of radine (I took a shuttle, picked up some radine, turned off everything but life support and let the solor panels do their job). B. Upgrading Reactor C. Repairing Reactor. Under all of the above circumstances, my ship was staying motionless. Solar panels aren't very useful if you try to move around. -Gnowor

Damn, SC. I swear they must just plug you in all matrix style and just download the code from your head cuz most of the problems get posted, you know exactly where the issue is. Don't suppose you do psychic readings too? I could use the winning lotto numbers for this weekend too while you're at it. -Gnowor

Know you say it's on your list of things to check out, SC, but I can confirm. Just tried doing a little Insurgent base destruction and wasn't watching the ammo on my rifle real careful and I switched to the wristlaser. No go. -Gnowor

If you could do that SC, would be awesome. That and just any key-combo that would take you out of the game (I had the Alt-Tab key problem in I believe BCM when i was using afterburners, or something like that. Been awhile since BCM for me). -Gnowor

I'm gonna feel really dumb if I'm the only one here who's ever crashed the game by accidentally hitting the windows key when aiming for alt. So I'll post how I fixed it. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 216893 First off, little disclaimer. Don't mess around in the registry unless you know what you're doing. Bad things can happen, i.e. having to re-install Windows. Couple of revisions to the article to make it accurate for Windows XP (Pro). Revision to points 4-5 in article 4. On the Edit menu, click New>Binary Value. Name the Value Scancode Map. 5. Right-click the value Scancode Map and click Modify, and type in the following. 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 5B E0 00 00 5C E0 00 00 00 00 Note: Do not use spaces or returns, just type in character by character. Spaces and returns added for readability. 5. (cont.) Click OK. This will disable the Windows key completely in Windows. If you really do need to use it, you can use the key combination Ctrl-Esc. Hope this helps. -Gnowor

"My games cater to a specific audience and that audience is used to reading the manuals for games of this scope." This is one thing that I mentioned to the guy at EB when I bought the game. He's gonna see lots of people looking at the game for $19.99. I suggested that he warn them that they're gonna be getting A LOT of play time out of it if they have the patience. It's got a high learning curve, but once you learn it, it's more expansive than any game I've ever seen. That brings me to this point. I sometimes post about stupid small stuff, only because I know that this is your masterpiece, SC, and in an ideal world, it would be perfect. I let you know about the little things that can bring it to perfection, even if it may mean sounding like a whining n00b sometimes. I know those little things still matter to you because of the examples you listed about adding in the one ship just so the box would be accurrate. I bought BC3000ad v2 and found the only game (or series) that could captivate my mind. I just hope that one day the masses will learn to appreciate games that make them think. -Gnowor

This may not even be a bug but I'll post it anyway. Doing the ACM and deployed my shuttles to drop my mining drones. Set the waypoint to deploy drones. Looks like they're proceeding to the waypoints, but they weren't losing altitude like they were going to land. So I tell them real quickly to RTB then I tell them to resume waypoints. They understand this and resume the deploy drone order. Now they're descending faster (altitude is actually dropping as opposed to staying pretty much the same) but they're at a negative altitude value (as displayed on the shuttle popup on the HUD on the bridge). Now mind you, I did set the waypoints for -5000m or something similar because in BCM that worked to deploy drones. Does that no longer work? Are they supposed to be at negative altitude values? -Gnowor

Sent originally from my @comcast.net address. Just now resent from my @yahoo.com email address. Both mails are identical. -Gnowor

Saved game files sent. Just go through the flux field until you die. Then, load the same game I sent you, the one where you're still 5 km away from the flux field. You will die again right after you load. More detailed instructions included in email. -Gnowor

So let me just clarify. I save my game while I'm just chilling waiting for something to happen in the game in save slot 3. I hit resume and then something happens and I die. You're saying that when I load from save slot 3, I'm supposed to die again. If this is the case then why when I load from save slot 3 for a second time does it load fine. Notice, I did not use the resume button after I die (I understand that this will not work). Again read the order of events. There is an inconsistancy there. Either I should die EVERY time I use the save slot, or not at all, should it function properly. Why does it auto-kill me after loading the game after I die? My problem is with step 2 above. -Gnowor
-
Re-read the mesage SC. I'm using the Save slots. Thus I would be "loading". Not, "resuming". Good job at holding that grudge there SC. -Gnowor

Whenever I load a game right after dying (in this case, from a blackhole after entering FLX-12) I die again after loading the game (by die I mean the KIA message is displayed, I don't see any actual destruction). This happens only on the time I immediately load the game after dying. Should I load that same game again (after seeing that KIA display for no apparent reason) it loads fine. Just to make this clear, heres the chain of events. 1. Enter flux-field, see destruction explosion, get KIA report. 2. Load game, see KIA report. 3. Load game again, loads fine. Anyone else have this problem? Possibly with other circumstances surrounding death. -Gnowor

Despite turning the IOD on and off (using the mouse on the Guns display on the left hand side of the screen) the bar graph doesn't update... just stays at 100. Only know the guns are off since pulling the trigger doesn't have quite the same deadly effect when your guns are off. Running game at 1280x1024 if that makes any difference. -Gnowor
-
Either that or you can just update the pic of the BC Mk3 to be the one I used. J/k. Thanks, SC.
-
Yes. I realize the script overrides that it's a BC MK3. I'm saying that it defaults to a BC Mk3, doesn't let me change it, and gives me a Megaron. My continued point remains. I'd understand the following circumstances and your arguments against them given the following two options #1 It lets you choose a ship and overrides it (doesn't let you choose). #2 Defaults to a Megaron and doesn't let you choose. (Doesn't default to a megaron). My solution suggested would be changing it simply so it doesn't let you choose and defaults to a Megaron. Wow, so much clarification. -Gnowor
-
Sorry, my bad. Knew it wasn't a Megaron

Let me go through p6 of the manual paragraph by paragraph. Section 2.0 ┬Â1 "Only roam lets you change the settings" I realize this and I'm not asking to change my starting asset. Saying that I automatically start with a Megaron and it automatically depicts a BC Mk2 as my asset for the ACM. ┬Â2 "Several races/castes to choose from" Not for the ACM. Again, I realize this. ┬Â3 "Choose your race wisely" N/a for the ACM. ┬Â4 "Choose caste with caution" N/a for the ACM. ┬Â5 "Some castes have salaries." Yeah, I've got a salary. Read through the rest of the section and figured out why it depicts a BC Mk2 for the ACM and not a Megaron. Obviously the Gammulan Military is a little more advanced than the Terrans of GALCOM. I'm quite sure the Gammulans have digital cameras to take pictures of their current assets where as GALCOM just has to put up whatever picture it has on file. So here I leave you with an updated picture of the asset I see when I start the ACM. Picture1 Thanks, SC, as always. -Gnowor

When starting a new campaign in UC the Asset depicted is a Battlecruiser Mk 2 I believe instead of a Megaron which is the ship that I find myself starting with. Know you got other more important issues but was figuring this to be a quick fix. -Gnowor
