Just real quick, then I won't post till I've researched tomorrow.... Adam and Eve lived 900+ years...they had 'many sons and daughters' that counted centuries as we count decades...so Cain's wife could believably be generations removed from himself.
-
Yes, I'm camping the forum, sue me...I have no life. As far as dinos go....the only mention I can find is in Job (leviathan and behemoth)..other than that no mention...then again the Bible doesn't mention frogs either... The Noah thing...I gotta research that a bit.

Well, I don't feel like researching my Bible tonite, so look for more tomorrow...here's some top-of-the-head stuff.. 1. Ok, now that you've pinpointed that she comes from Nod, who were her parents? (note that I don't think the Bible says 'when' Cain took a wife, so it could conceivably be his neice/granddaughter.) 2. That same phrase says 10,000 yrs is liken to a day. Just means He's eternal. Note this, everywhere else that the same word for day was used, it meant, literally, one day. 3. Read the book of Job. Leviathan was a sea creature that 'played with the ships in the sea'. Behemoth was some great beast that walked on land. One of those was described as fire-breathing. (dragons? dinosaurs?) 4. Well, pick a part and talk about it...whole book is full of questions for most people. 5. Two places mention His altering time. Don't remember where, will research. Both add up to a day, tho.

As per DraconisRex's request, this thread is for all questions biblical. Keep the gloves on. Here's a few thoughts to get you started. 1. Where did Cain's wife come from? 2. Was the world really created in six days, or is that figurative language? 3. What were the 'leviathan and behemoth' and where'd they go? 4. Revelations...explain it... 5. Did God really stop the sun? that's just a few to get you thinking...Enjoy! I'll be back

quote: It seams more likely that, while they would indeed have WMDs, they could go without using them just as easily as we do. We have survived for the last 50 or so years with the existence of nuclear weapons and the threat of WW3, but we have been very politically heterogeneous without blowing ourselves up. This could easily last the next 100 years (especially with all the different defense systems people are trying to come up with). How long will it take for our race to have a secure extraterrestrial habitat? Well, AFAIK things in NASA's history that, while being great for exploration, were not militarily advantageous were scrapped. Most of our tech comes from military research. Now this is just speculation, but when we make it easy to fly from system to system, we'll make it easier to blow up the world with a press of a few buttons a la Alas! Babylon Now, bigger weapons lead to bigger tempers and mistakes are made. For us to share space, we would have to make sure that only friendly nations had the same tech and we would have to watch them closely. I imagine that the same would apply to aliens, no? Keep in mind, though, that I'm a 23 yr old ex-grunt that is very opinionated and am far from knowing everything. So, I could be wrong or misguided.

Night in front of the TV - What I'm watching/taping
d8alus replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in The Arts
Well, I may as well...here's my weekly TV needs: 1. Smallville 2. Charmed 3. Birds of Prey 4. Firefly 5. John Doe 6. That 70's show 7. Still Standing 8. According to Jim The first five I watch pretty much religiously...the rest I just catch when I remember to. -
quote: I cannot accept the Bible as the end-all of the repository of all knowledge concerning anything extraterrestrial, especially since Angels, devils, and even God Himself cannot be of Earthly origin by simple definition. That doesn't make the Bible wrong -- it was written for men about men and God. That's it. Just because it doesn't mention cars, computers, ariplanes, etc., doesn't mean we weren't meant to have them. But the lack of their mention doesn't make the Bible wrong either. However, if what you're saying is the general concenscious of Christians, then that means that the Roswell cover-up was right and Mulder was wrong -- We can't handle the truth. Any alien worth his salt would research us, and know full-well about human intolerence of anything non-Biblical. Don't get me wrong, if little green men fall out of the sky in a soup bowl and start speaking gibberish I'm not going to curl up in a ball and start screaming, "why, God, why?" I'll just add that to the list of the many things I don't really understand. The bible was given to us to show us the way to heaven, all the accounts in the old testament lead up to, and provide proof for, the birth and life of Christ. The bible shows us how to properly live our lives in harmony with one another (although we don't). It is the road for salvation. So, if aliens are out there and God didn't mention them, maybe that's cuz it ain't really important to salvation. On the other hand, I (me personally, that's an opinion) believe that if aliens were out there, they'd be mentioned somewhere along the way in the bible. We could argue this lil point back and forth till we die, so let's just agree to disagree and move on to other points.

quote: If aliens existed, they'd most likely want NOTHING to do with our pathetic species.Well, in all honesty, I'm a meddler. I can't watch someone having problems and just let them fumble through it. I have to at least drop hints or suggestions and sometimes flat out tell them what they're doing wrong. So, IF there were aliens, and IF they were more advanced than us, and IF they managed to get along with themselves well enough to share space. Who's to say they wouldn't look at our race with all our petty arguments and wars over nothing and not feel the need to drop in from time-to-time to knock some sense into us or drop clues. I don't think that a politically heterogeneous species could have the tech for interstellar travel without having the tech for massive weapons of destuction and killing each other off in the process. IMHO sharing a planet peacefully is prerequisite for sharing space. Either that or have some kick-ass defense measures.

quote: what species He chose for His creations, or even why He would do any of this. Quadrillions of stars out there... Hard to believe God would waste all that space, just for one lonely blue-green planet in the midst of a sea of endless stars..... Hard to believe that He'd create all the species here on Earth just for our enjoyment, but He did. Bible says so. Besides, He's not in the misdirection business. i.e. leaving out info just to cause doubt later. The creation account tells of Him creating everything, and not once mentions life on other planets. (not trying to turn this into a religious discussion, just food for thought.)

:: drool :: As if I didn't have enough games to do that about...

There can't be aliens out there! That'd ruin my whole claim to arrogance and superiority!! Seriously, even if there ARE et's...why do they have to be more technologically advanced than us? Also, just to play the religion card (yes, it DOES effect everything in my life), I'd have to say that if they existed the Bible woulda said something. For those that are interested, Bible-based thoughts on UFOs can be found here. Oh, one more thing. If aliens existed, they'd most likely want NOTHING to do with our pathetic species.

quote: "now sound off and tell us what you want to be" Did you know that they get mad when you say "civilian"? I got weekend duty for that one. Sure was funny, tho.

You know it's funny...they teach you to rappel(sp?) in air assault school, but every time we did an air assault, the birds land; we run out and fall down; birds leave; woohoo where's the fun in that? btw don't ask how many I've done, I lost count.
-
How'd you do that? I couldn't get it to link directly.

That's just too much! ROFLMAO

Just out of curiousity, what are the ranks of the command crew?

My bad, the topic was my take on becoming force sensitive I won't waste space pasting here since it's just a hop, skip, and click away.

LOL I don't know what's worse, almost getting flamed by an idiot or being defended by them!! Some people are just so immature. (like me) check out the SWG Discussions forum at www.starwarsgalaxies.com I posted as 'd8alus' [ 12-05-2002, 01:20 AM: Message edited by: Kiran ]

Video game retailer strong arming - article
d8alus replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Chatter
As a Christian, I say what's wrong with a store that claims to be a family store censoring it's retail choices? There's no law against it and it is morally right. How is it any different than selecting one brand over the other? It's the content, not the act that people are complaining about. If Wal-Mart refuses to sell sinful things hoorah for them. Free enterprise means you can sell what you want. It's not their fault that games won't sell as well if they don't carry them. -
Is it just me, or do more and more console games these days include a situation that involves little more than dumb luck and lightning reflexes with clumsy controls? Case in point...Metroid Prime (GCN) when fighting the metroid prime, it's attacks are fast and furious and difficult to dodge. Your weapons do almost no damage. The controls do not allow turning and strafing at the same time. Hitting the metroid's small target area is more a result of rapid firing and dumb luck than precision aiming. Movement is limited by a small room. Movement speed is about half what it should be. Case #2 Shinobi (PS2) constant platform jumping above bottomless canyons from a third-person perspective with a very clumsy camera. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought we outgrew platform jumping when we invented 3d games. How can you tell if your feet are in the right place when you can't see below you? there's more but I'm sure you've all had your experiences with this. Now, I'm an avid gamer, but my reflexes are nowhere near fast enough to keep up with today's action games. Also, the controls are so many and so awkward that my brain can't keep up with what does what in the heat of battle. Am I just behind the times or are developers throwing in frustratingly difficult and near-impossible situations rather than real fun challenges? Are they just too lazy to do it right? I mean what's with boss fights? Why do they always have these huge creatures with tiny weak points and massive attacks? What's wrong with smaller enemies with weaker attacks but more mobility that require actual skill and timing rather than rapid button mashing and a four-leaf clover? What's wrong with control setups that are simple and effecient? I do know this: If I'm yelling and screaming and throwing the controller, then the developer has done something wrong. On the other hand, If I'm getting ripped to shreds and I just stare at the screen in awe and quickly look for the continue option with a childish grin on my face...well, you get the picture. Really I just wanna know if I'm a gaming loser or if games are ridiculously difficult. P.S. What's with the shortage of Co-op games? Why is everything 'kill your friends'?
