I somehow managed to miss the fact that rc28 made it to the download page. So, I thought you were talking about the vcf. My mistake. BTW 'axes' is the plural of 'axis' [ 11-28-2002, 07:01 PM: Message edited by: Kiran ]

Is anyone actually ever there? I've dropped by a couple of times and either no one's been there or no one's paying attention to it.

What Pre-1985 Video Game Character Are You? (small pics included)

Changes in the tide don't phase me - I always know which way the wind blows, and I know how to compensate for it. I get on poorly with people like myself. Yeah that's about right...kinda weird...I love that game! -

did it twice at 100% only took about 2 secs per word, too

Well, my ship names have changed many times, but currently I'm using "Harmonic Discord" because combat is organized chaos!

I smell a revolution in the next century...pathetic, really.

sorry about the useless info, I do that alot... I realize it's a moot point now, but what I was trying to say is that I think in realistic flight sims roll and pitch are better cuz it's realistic. In space sims, yaw and pitch are better cuz it's faster. Does that make more sense? P.S. I was also BS'ing to make it sound like I had a legit reason...won't do it again [ 11-25-2002, 04:09 PM: Message edited by: Kiran ]

Argument #1: On most other space combat games, x axis is yaw, z axis is roll (petty argument, I know) Argument #2: In a real aircraft, when travelling at high speeds, the rudder could become damaged when used and doesn't perform well anyways. In a spacecraft, there is no rudder it's lateral rockets. Argument #3: A real aircraft's wings generate lift. When flying level, it is possible to generate just enough lift (and thrust) to counteract gravity. When rolled on it's side, the craft no longer generates lift with it's wings. The wings then act like a giant rudder and change the direction of flight. When the pilot then pulls back on the stick, thus raising the elevators, the aircraft performs a much tighter turn. Note, however, that without moving the elevators, the craft will still turn due to aerodynamics. In space, however, aerodynamics become moot. A spacecraft's turning ability is in no way tied to its shape or wings and lift is generated solely by thrust. The only way for a spacecraft to change it's direction is to generate thrust to push it in the desired direction. Therefore turning a spacecraft on it's side, (relative to it's former position) will not cause any change in direction, requiring you to then change the pitch. Now, for whatever reason, I find target acquisition much easier using pitch and yaw as the primary axes and roll as an auxillary movement to fine tune the angle. Therefore, assigning the y and x axes as pitch and yaw would make it much easier and natural. I think the reason is the difference in the speeds of aircraft and (fictional) spacecraft. Maybe it's just me, and call me weird, but I like it better that way. That's my two cents, take it for what it's worth. :edit: I actually think I did that wrong...wouldn't x be pitch and y be yaw? I'm confused. I've done nothing but play with guns and run around in the woods for the last four years, don't hold it against me! [ 11-25-2002, 10:19 AM: Message edited by: Kiran ]

Bah! You're all just trying to get brownie points with SC!!

I'm curious to see what kind of games people like so describe your dream game with all it's bells, whistles and nifty blinking lights and don't worry about whether or not today's technology can handle it. I'll post mine in a few days when I've had time to figure it out...

ROFLMAO!! Too bad it's actually an excerpt from the NSA's files...

quote: , although an M-16 (yep, it's semi...) can fire from 1 to 6 shots with a single trigger pull. I'd like to know where you got that info. An M-16A1 has full auto capabilities and an M-16A2 has safe-semi-burst (where semi fires 1 round per trigger pull and burst is a 3-round burst) and trust me there's no way to get more than 3 rds out on a single trigger pull, I've tried! Besides, AFAIK M-16's are not available to the general public. AR-15's on the other hand, I don't know much about except that it's the civilian counterpart and is supposed to only have safe and semi. quote: it's American freedom in its purest form, and anyone wanting to argue with my rights had best be prepared to meet me (and 80 million other gun-owners) on the battlefield. With 1/3rd of the population marching on DC, I think it would be a short war indeed. The constitution and bill of rights were put in place to avoid the need for an aggressive take over of gov't. (although since somehow people in large groups lose their common since, voting is somewhat ineffective at times) And I had more I wanted to say, but my incessant absent-mindedness got a hold of it...

quote: if someone wants to remove themselves from the gene pool then who am I to prevent them. What if that someone was your child? Death, well-deserved or otherwise, is not something to be callous about. Everyone that dies is a father or brother or mother or sister or child to someone. Just because you don't know them and it doesn't affect your life doesn't mean it doesn't affect anyone. Just food for thought.

quote: If you have to escort the diplomatic vessel, why not do it you're self...fighters can't hold off a carrier onslaught Who are you kiddin'? A carrier can't hold off a carrier onslaught...especially when the diplomat runs off and leaves you. My suggestion is just kill the diplomat and spend eternity running from the authorities... In all seriousness, the diplomat will run off and leave any carrier so I have no clue how to actually protect it..other than follow and pray...

A friend of mine said this and I thought it's funny.... quote: My idea of gun control is redundant safeties and a hair trigger
-
quote: Replace the word "gun" with the word "car", and think again. I'm not familiar with the requirements for getting a weapon permit in the US, but I think one of the requirements should be - at the very least - a basic understanding of firearm safety I completely agree. Why is it that driving privledges involve a written test and supervisory evalution and gun ownership involves paying money at a courthouse? Note that I am completely against gun control in its current incarnation. I have four years of infantry training and I'll die before I give up my right to defend myself and my loved ones. On the same token, I have tried repeatedly to convince my brother's girlfriend not to get a gun. Owning a gun for protection is great, provided that you've been given basic knowledge and confidence in it's use. My dad was a policeman for almost a decade and he has repeatedly told me of murder cases he worked where the victim was either killed with their own gun or killed because they were too scared to actually use it. (not being sexist but 'they' was usually 'she') My only point on gun control is proper respect for the weapon. That means that no matter what a weapon is always considered loaded, and if you point it at an aggressor you'd better be ready to fire. Guns should never be used as an empty threat. If the aggressor thinks you don't have the will to use it, he will call your bluff. Now, if you'll excuse me, I believe it's someone else's turn on the soapbox... Bah! Stations aren't that hard...I took out Galcom HQ in an interceptor! (note that it was considered an act of treason when I did it)

What I really need is a hybrid. A cruiser that can use artifacts. Screw cloaking I want the enemy to see me coming, gives them more time to wet themselves! :side note: Do higher lvl shields prevent intrusions?

I'm begining to dislike this game...and here's the reason: Whenever I play a game that allows so many choices, i.e. BCM, NWN, Daggerfall..etc. I can't make up my mind on what I want to do so I end up constantly restarting to try something new..then I get tired of doing the same areas over and over and never attaining any powerbase so I quit playing. Then a month or two later; wash, rinse, repeat... C'est la vie! Okay, so let's pro-con this: Carrier: 1. Fighter compliment 2. more marines 3. artifact capability 4. slow speed 5. high HS transit 6. cloak 7. low maneuverability 8. more engineers Cruiser: 1. no fighter compliment 2. few marines 3. no artifacts (?) 4. high speed 5. shorter HS transit 6. no cloak 7. high maneuverability 8. few engineers Have I missed anything? You know I'm more of a fighter pilot than a commander..however I don't like giving up the artifact capabilities. Ugh, these critical decisions! Of course, my fighter compliments usually get dusted; and I'm basically untouchable in a cruiser thanks to my mad DF skillz! Sigh, I'm back where I started...let's look at it this way: Han Solo or Admiral Akbar?
-
Yeah, see, I've never lived long enough to know which play style suits me... (or just decided I didn't like the ship or race/caste I chose, I'm quite picky)
-
But cruisers are almost twice as fast...
-
I need some advice, I can't decide which I like commanding more, the cruiser class or carrier class ships. Any suggestions?

Good idea Watching a naval battle from the bow of your ship in the 1400's for better situational awareness. Bad idea Watching a space battle from the bow of your ship in the 3000's for better view of the pretty lasers. Anyone wanna guess what happened to me?

How in the name of all that is holy and pure did you get 272!?!?! I do good to get 30!
