  1. I don't know, I fell asleep during this one.. though It COULD be that I've been working too much lately.
  2. They have a cool new Trailer , check it out.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Prez: That is an awesome way to avoid just throwing someone out on their @$$ while still pressuring them into getting off said @$$ to look for a job. True, what's funny is that I remember when the 2 yr. time limit started coming up on some of these people, there was this articla in the Sun Sentinel where they were SHOCKED that this woman actually had to move in with her 4 Children's Father, since she was no longer getting any welfare benefits. The Shock and dismay, how dare the state make these kids father take responsibility for his Kids. Unbelievalbe.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Soback: To your First point, if you don't support the idea, why even explain why someone would want it? Why rationalize something that CAN NOT be rationalized. On your second point. If it was that easy to make a fuel effiecient SUV or a Hummer,... There ALREADY are more fuel efficient alternatives, like Diesel engines as discussed before. In Europe, a very large percentage of the population drives Diesel cars, but here in the US, you have the misperception that Diesel cars produce more polution, are extremely loud, and have very low end power. These are all things that have been corrected since the 70's, but still the perception persists, so no one wants to "take a chance" and offer Diesels on anything but the absolute largest SUV, the Excursion. Though Ford HAS finally started offering Diesels on some of thier smaller SUV's. Point is that the Government could help this along, by offering some sort of incentive to the manufacturers to offer Diesels on SUV's. It would only help to reduce our dependancy on Foriegn Oil. I'm sorry if this smacks of "Socialism" to you Soback, I know how sensitive you are on this issue, but I don't feel that we should stand by and do nothing as the nation becomes more and more dependant on OPEC and those member nations that absolutely HATE us. It's like giving money and ammunition to the enemy.
  5. I have a feeling that they assign 2 or 3 targets while in a Jump, so as soon as they exit the Jump, they come out blasting with the Missiles.
  6. Got my Manual & Card today WOOHOO!
  7. That's not the only issue. When you have entrenched apps (Like Goldmine, Notes, Act, Accpac) and you want to bring in someone new, usually there's no problem finding replacement workers. Now, you have an exotic app running your business, EVERY person that walks in the door needs to be fully trained. Not just what's different from your installation, but the works. That can be VERY time consuming.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Grizzle: As for the welfare aspect, I agree it's become a dismal failure and think Remo has the right idea about how to solve the problem. Model it after unemployment benefits and add some job training. Limits need to be placed on benefits as well, say 6 months to a year then they're on their own to take the skills they learn in job training and make a living for themselves. I don't know about other states, but here in Florida there is a 2 year LIFETIME time limit. Once used up you can no longer collect Welfare, EVER! Ever since they implemented this program, along with Job training and subsidized child care, the welfare rolls were reduced by almost 40%, and MOST didn't wait for the entire 2 years to roll by, becuase they wanted to save a safety net for themselves for the future, in case they ever needed help again. Other states need to follow Florida's example.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr. WeeGee: Darkling... have you used a Mac using OSX for more than a week? For starters... most of the truly useful features of Notes are built into OS X, as with any UNIX OS currently. Notes is simply a nice looking wrapper for an LDAP client. So what you're telling me is that Enterprises are paying me 10's of thousands of dollars to Implement Lotus Notes for them, when all they had to do was get a simple LDAP program. Boy I guess these guys are REALLY Stupid. Oh Wait, I forgot, the main reason they buy Lotus notes is because of the ability to log every transaction, every note change with a time and date stamp of the user that created it. So THIS is the reason that people buy it. Same thing with Goldmine. If you change a phone number on a contact, a history record is created that says that you changed the phone number from 123 to 456, whatever. Also, if I want to fax a document to my customer, I go to the Document center and right click on the document that I want and right click fax, BOOM, Goldmine uses a word template that automatically merges information into the document from the Contact that I'm working on, then passes it off to either Faxnow!, Faxrush, RightFax, or one of several other programs made to work with it. This is something you CAN'T do on a Mac, unless you're wiling to write all the code yourself. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr. WeeGee: Please, do a little more research before you start debunking something; I haven't debunked Windows nearly at all... just simply stated facts. The last thing this conversation needs to erupt into is a WINDOWS IS BETTER THAN MAC flame war. When did I say that Windows is better than Mac? OS/2 was FAR SUPERIOR to both Windows AND Mac's, did it make it the right computer to buy for Business? NO, because other than Notes, there was no REAL business software written for it. Of course I'm talking about generalities here, I'm not talking about individual circumstances. My Grandmother wanted a Computer to surf the web and check her email, so I bought her an inexpesive Lindows Machine, so she wouldn't have to worry about viruses. As I've said before, my graphics department uses Macs for building ads. To tell the truth, if I could find a good replacement for my Goldmine system, I would get rid of my Windows Machines for my salespeople, but the truth is, that there isn't ANYTHING like Goldmine Available for Mac's or Linux, Unix or anything else, unless again, I want to spend 100 grand writing a custom program. I even tried looking for something so I can simply run Linux clients off Terminal Servers, but there isn't any version of Remote Desktop for Linux that can redirect Printers, unless I want to upgrade to Citrix, which would cost me an additional $2000.00 in licensing. What do you think that I'm some kid in college, studying business, NO! I live in the REAL world, where you have to use what's available REGARDLESS of who makes it, Bill Gates included, because if you don't use that advantage, your competition sure as hell will and eat your lunch while they're at it. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr. WeeGee: EDIT: One last thing... Graphics Programs arn't the main concentration in OS X, they were for OS9 and earlier though. OS X has taken a much broader aspect on the Desktop, and now you can actually find some of the most powerful DataBase applications for it, some spectacular Programming Environments, and the entire Microsoft Office Suite even runs better on a Mac than on any of our PCs here. Well for someone who only needs MS Office to work, that's fantastic, but for everyone else, that doesn't really cut it. OSX will continue to be extremely strong in Graphics, because no one is going to stop producing the graphics programs that they've made for Macs for years, simply because the numbers on the OS has changed.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr. WeeGee: =Thats not true. Not nearly true at all. There are more than enough equivilents to cover ALL of those pieces of software. Quickbooks even has a Mac version out this very moment, in its 7th version as well. Depending on what you're doing, its extremely easy to say "let's just run only Macs." Education for example, gets a big boost when you use Macintosh.Sorry thinking about Linux when it comes to Quickbooks. Either way, a lot of my customers use things like Lotus Notes (Most Banks), Goldmine (Most Sales Organizations), Sales Logix (Again Sales Organizations) Accpac (Wholesalers). I could go on and on, there is no credible comparible software for Mac. Show me ONE program that could do everything that Goldmine or Lotus Notes can do? There isn't any. Most software vendors concentrate on Graphics programs for Macs, no getting around that. How many Enterprises have a fleet of Macs? No one and I'll tell you why. If I want to roll out an installation to 1000 PC's in a company, all I need to do is write an MSI package and a group policy to install it, but there's is no way to do that in a Mac, you have to go in there One by one to install the software. That is the reason why you will never see enterprises switching to Macs.
  11. If they applied the Gas Guzzler tax and current fuel regulations to SUV's then you might see better fuel economy coming from these things. I drive a Toyota Sequoia, which I admit is pretty bad on gas, I get around 14MPG on average, but part of the problem is that they WON'T even offer a Diesel Engine option because, of course, deisel Engines cost a few thousand more to produce, but come on, I paid almost 50K for that vehicle, what's a few thousand more? If there were some sort of regulations in place, they would have done it, since Diesels get around 50% better Mileage. The only other thing though is that Diesels are noisier, you hear that clicketey clack sound from them, but that doesn't bother me. I know that it does bother some people though.
  12. quote:Originally posted by Kalshion: ... they think they have to have HDTV.. Hey I can't live without my HDTV so don't EVEN ask! Seriously though, once my car broke down at my then girlfriends store (my wife now) and so I thought, hey it only takes me what 10 min. to get here, I'll walk. It took me an hour to get home. Sure it's easy to say Walk. But if it normally takes ONE hour to get out of town in a car, then guess what, You're walking for at least 6 Hrs. Is that realistic for someone like me? I have 6 kids. One is only a year old. True I'm "Rich" by most people's standards, but still. If I was poor and didn't have a vehicle, I think I would have taken my chances. It would have been TOO much of an effort for a MAYBE.
  13. I think that the Local Government's decision to let prisoners out, was the FIRST BIG MISTAKE and second was the Media HYPE over what was going on. I remember a few days after the storm, where there was this reporter standing on a bridge talking about the "Pandemonium", the "Lawlessness", the "Near Riot Conditions"! Yet, his words, didn't match the video feed. There were people walking up to him (mostly blacks) wanting to give a shout out to their families, to let them know they were OK. Also Family Members looking for other family members, so I waited and waited and waited, Nope! No video of the "Pandemonium", the "Lawlessness", the "Near Riot Conditions"! It's almost as if they WANTED the people to break out in a riot while they were doing the news story. Yes there were CRIMINALS that were acting like, ... Um let's see, what's the word I'm looking for.... OH YEAH, CRIMINALS! So why were these criminals let out? Didn't New Orleans have a plan? Could they maybe have tried building their prison on higher ground, so they wouldn't HAVE to evacuate prisoners? This whole story is about one thing and one thing only, it's about the total lack of accountability, response, or leadership of a local government, looking to pawn off their problems to the rest of us, via the US Federal Government.
  14. You've got to be kidding me, that's one of the EASIEST money making routes in the game. But then again, I just use it long enough to upgrade my ship to the biggest and baddest on the block before I head off to take over every space station that I can between Earth & Gammulan Space, or DIE trying!
  15. quote:Originally posted by Carl Burning: If you are serious about having a machine for office use, get the mac. Now of course, if you will be actually using it for work, it may not be so easy. What happens if you need to run Quickbooks? Or Goldmine? or Act? Most productivity software is ONLY made for PC's so, it's not so easy to say yeah let's just run only Macs.
  16. I'm having Zero problems after the patch.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: One think that irks me is that I was looking forward to a more challenging final fight with the lead bad guy. That didn't happen.Very true, especially after they showed the lead bad guy's skills in the beginning of the movie. On another note, my wife's family is down for the week, so they offered to watch our son while we go to the movies so I took my wife to see it, since there was nothing else on at that hour, and she ABSOLUTELY loved it! Maybe it's because it's been over a year since we've been to the movies together, since I thought it was just OK. But then again, I saw the first one and she didn't. Either way, there's definitely no lul in the action on this movie.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Thats why it works, because its not a twitch base update; unlike most traditional mp games. Well until games are designed from the get go to use ONLY 128MBs lines (finally get rid of 56K), I think it would be IMPOSSIBLE to create a game that is twitch based, AND can have more than 100 people in one area at a time. So until then, semi-turn based systems like SWG & EVE will be the norm.

  20. quote:Originally posted by $iLk: I know I'd be shooting myself in the foot were I to desire using it as a gaming rig. But in terms of office, interoperability, connectivity, creativity, etc. - why would I - or would I not want to try out the Mac? It used to be that if you have a need for Graphics, the Mac's ability to handle large graphics files with ease, made it a clear winner when putting together graphics, such as ads and such. However, with the MAJOR graphics advances in the PC, that is no longer the case. Adobe Photoshop now runs faster on comparable PC's than they do in Macs. However, with the entrenched position of Macs in the Graphics world, if I want several companies to bid on my printing needs, then I had better have the graphics in Mac files. Even though files are "supposed" to be compatible between the two formats, many times certain fonts end up looking different or out of alignment when they are done on the PC and converted over to a Mac file for your printer. For this reason, we have Macs in the Office for the Graphics department and PC's for everyone else.

  22. quote:Originally posted by JUDGExKTF: .... I'm not disturbed by the fact that he vows to kill Google, ...... I used to work for Home Depot when they vowed to "Kill Builder's Square" Truth is, when they had an "Enemy" to "Fight" they were a HELL OF A LOT BETTER outfit to work for than they are now. Now, they have all sorts of Quota's and Ceilings on pay that never existed before. They never wanted BS to get the good employees. However, now that BS is gone, it's now such a BLAH company. I still have friends that work there that just Ache for the "Good Ol' days". They just don't seem to have the same Venom against Lowes even though Lowes seems to be stomping them underfoot. Point is, sometimes you need this type of adverserial competitiion to bring out a focus and a drive to a company when none is present.
  23. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Calling all guinea pigs If you have having this issue, download this file and execute it (it is self-extracting) into your game folder, overwriting the existing files. Then let me know if the problem is solved or not. I reverted to the previous Starforce config as I suspect that this is probably what is causing this on some machines (probably those that are quite possibly overclocked). I'll check it out as soon as I get home tonight, but I can tell you right now, that My system isn't overclocked. I even removed the Rage3D Tweak Utility to see if it would help but it didn't.
  24. Brilliant move, I can't tell you how many times I would have purchased something on Ebay, if I could have spoken to the person before bidding, just to make sure the product did what I wanted it to. This will DEFINITELY help Ebay's business.
  25. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: No its not. They've just moving data. The game does not handle real-time positional updates. I've been involved in Fleet battles involving over 100 ships in the game, and while you're right, a lot of the explosions, movement graphics and so on, is all estimated and not actual real time, it still "Works" and generally the team with the best combination of strategy & ships will prevail.
