Soon I'll be laughing at USER FRIENDLY and wearing shirts that say "Got Linux". The Battlecruiser Series might be for Geeks, but Linux is for ULTRA Geeks. Come on, do you REALLY think that linux comes anywhere near the polish and ease of use of Windows. I recently downloaded Linux to give it a shot, and it took me 2 hrs just to figure out how to install Enemy Territory. Why? Because something as simple as Software installation isn't even standardized in Linux, you have several different "Distros" that each require a different format for installation. The average user would have said screw it and uninstalled the thing.
  2. Eve hits 15K concurrent players. Though Eve isn't beating anyone on total subscriptions you have to hand it to them. There's Zero sharding, instancing or anything like that at all, yet they've managed to get 15 Thousand players on the same "Virtual World" at the same time. Technologically that's a HUGE Step. Linkage
  3. quote:Originally posted by Teknocack Prime: ... I forgot to mention that if you can get into tacops, then everything is fine. ... Just checked mine out and it's the same Issue here. Going into Tacops gives great response, as soon as there's an external view of some sort, then it works very slow. From what I can see the ONLY thing we have in common with our two systems is that both of us are using the latest ATI Catalyst Drivers, other than that, we have different processors, memory, video cards everything.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Teknocack Prime: You get two activations to start. More will cost you $10.00. I suggest updating drivers, defragging your hard drive, and replacing any components that may be of iffy quality or are too old. In short, get your ducks in a row before you install. It has already cost me 1GB of Corsair XMS for $123.00. You have been warned! More will cost $10.00, are you serious, I upgrade my computers on average once every 6 to 12 Months!?!
  5. quote:Originally posted by Soback: Taxes is looting. While I'm no proponent of higher taxes, your statement goes too far. This government needs taxes in order to function properly, to pay for the Military, FBI, CIA, FDIC and yes social programs like Social Security, Welfare and the like. A society that operates with zero safety nets risks things like the Great Depression. The Great Depression bred things like Hitler, Stalin, Mousellini. As much as we WOULD LIKE everyone in the world to be like us, industrious, independant, self reliant, we must face the truth, and the truth is that most people are Sheep, blindly following what others tell them to do. They NEED others to tell them what to do, because they can't make a decision to SAVE THEIR LIVES. Be glad that you're not one of them. Most poeple NEED Certainties, Guarantees and to be pointed in the right direction. For the rest of us there are only TWO Guarantees, Death and Taxes. Of that You can be sure! and no amount of griping and complaining will EVER change that so stop complaining about it. My mother used to always tell me, NEVER complain about something that You or anyone else can't change, it's a waste of time and energy, and if you MUST complain, then complain with a solution at hand so that you at least come at the problem with a solution, instead of sounding like "another idiot that loves to complain".
  6. I think that's what I'll do, I keep going back and forth between .03 & .04 and under .04 it almost seems as if it's working under Software Acceleration instead of Hardware Acceleration. I remember this happened to me once before with UT and the way that I resolved it was to delete the VGA Buffer driver to the Motherboard and reinstalled. Then I reinstalled DirectX, but that was before I Got the Radeon, and I'm pretty sure the Radeon doesn't need the Buffer driver to the Motherboard, though I could be Mistaken. In either case the Game works fine under .03 so that's what has me a bit confused. I was thinking of testing it on my other computer, that one has an AMD 2200 Sempron with a Radeon 9000, while this one has a P4 2Ghz with a 9200SE, but I'm not sure if I want to waste the Activation Key, since I'm going to be upgrading this one soon to a 64FX plus I'm changing the Video card to an X800, so I'm sure that will require a Re-Activation of the Game.

  8. PM me on your supplier in Canada, I'm looking for a different printer for my next edition of my Student Guides.
  9. quote:Originally posted by UnderLord: I was going though the appendix and saw mobile bases are we allowed to buy these anywhere in the game and if so where? I'd love to have one for my ground assaults. When i ask where i mean are they on starbases or starstations ect? I think you might be able to "Borrow" them by Tractoring one with your shuttle to where ever it is that you want to do your Assault, but I could be mistaken on that. I'll try it in the next few days and let you know.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Kung-Fu Massa: ... 6) You flip a coin. That's it. A sequence of events pretty much like what I just described is how I got my job. In fact, it literally came down to myself and one other person. The reason I got the job? We were both asked to create a certain type of document. HERS HAD SPELLING ERRORS. That's *IT*. If she had thought to spell check, I would still be looking for a bloody job. Bah. This is how Life is, but the trick is not to Flip the coin only once and say "Oh well, I lost" you keep flipping that dammed coin over and over again until you get the results that you wanted. I've started around a dozen businesses in my life and all but the last 2 ended up being liquidated or in bankruptcy, you keep trying, keep trying, keep trying and most of all IGNORE WTF EVERYONE ELSE SAYS. And THAT my friend is how you make a success of yourself. Was I lucky, You're dammed right I was lucky, but I was lucky because I kept putting myself at the right place, at the right place, at the right place, and the right place, at the right place, at the right place then finally BAMM, Right place, Right Time and that was it.
  11. quote:Originally posted by Soback: The BS is that A LOT, never get out of poverty. Even when provided with choices, they would STILL sit on their behinds, getting money that was robbed from me by the government, rather than work and EARN their living. why would you go to work and earn $1500 a month, if you can sit at home and get $400 a month in cash, $400 a month in food stamps AND a section 8 appartment. By the way you seem to contradict yourself here. In One breath, you're saying that "It's BS that a lot never get out of Poverty" and in the next breath you're saying that "even if given choices they would still sit on their behinds". So which is it, the poor are a bunch of listless lazy asses sucking you dry, or they're a group of industrious people that eventually get out of poverty? You can't have it both ways.
  12. quote:Originally posted by Soback: quote:Originally posted by Darkling: quote:Originally posted by Soback: BS Darkling. So stop with BS Darkling. Yeah, people can be poor, but it's UP TO THEM to pull through, So what specifically did I say that is BS? that it takes time to get out of Poverty? ... The BS is that A LOT, never get out of poverty. And WHERE did I say that A LOT never get out of poverty? It's a known fact that 80% of the people who where poor 5 years ago are no longer poor, and 90% after 10 years are no longer poor. What I said is that MOST of the poor are NOT Lazy asses that sit around doing nothing about their situation, I NEVER said that A LOT never get out of poverty, I challenge you to find WHERE I said that?
  13. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: I disagree with the collision detect comment and sent him email about it explaining why it was disabled for vegetation and why it is listed in the FAQ. So I have no idea what he meant by this, considering that if there was no general collision detect, first person would be unplayable (e.g. bullets won't hit etc) quote: Collision detectionÔÇöa critical part of making first-person environments feel "real"ÔÇöis still essentially absent, This is true, I don't understand why so many people seem to gripe about this, it's the same for SWG and a whole host of other games. In very large environments such as this, to have collision detection enabled for Vegitation would require a super computer to run.

  15. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: ATI doesn't support the type of fog used in the game because the version we are using is similar to the fog machines hollywood uses in movies. So would I get increased performance in the game by disabling the different types of Fog Renderers in the card?
  16. Out of curiousity, What kind of Fog is used in the Game. I noticed with my ATI Tweak Utility that there is Table Fog, Z Fog & W Fog, is there any type that should be on vs off?

  18. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: So don't run 1.00.04 Yeah, this is just silly. Besides, wtf is slow menu response anyway? And since you're the only one getting it, you're on your own. Actually I ran some more test using just keyboard commands and it's just slow response from the game when I'm patched to 1.00.04, but if it's just me then I guess there's some sort of conflict or something, I'll figure it out. In the mean time, .03 is working just fine, the only problem I had with that one was the one of the Officer 3d files, but since that one was patched in .04, then I have no issues.
  19. When I updated to version 1.00.04, I ended up with REALLY SLOW response to mouse clicks. At first I thought it might be a corrupt saved game, so I tried creating a new one. Same problem, so I tried running Universal Combat (patched to the latest Version) No problem there. Finally I re-applied the 1.00.03 patch and it worked just fine.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Soback: BS Darkling. So stop with BS Darkling. Yeah, people can be poor, but it's UP TO THEM to pull through, So what specifically did I say that is BS? that it takes time to get out of Poverty? So you're saying that ALL Poor People ARE Lazy. Was your Mom Lazy, is that why she was Poor? The point of my discussion isn't weather people deserve or don't deserve government assistance, the point that I was trying to make is that Unlike Jag's opinion, Not everyone that is Poor is lazy. It's nice that your Mom had friends that she could fall back on and stay at their Home. Unfortunately, when I was a kid my Mom had 5 Kids so no one would let all of us stay with them. Instead we moved an average of once every 3 months, because My Mom Couldn't pay the rent, Usually we would not only sleep on the floor, but also we would sleep in our Coats becuase we couldn't afford luxuries like Heat, not even in Zero degree, Rhode Island Weather. But again, my point is that it takes time to get out of Poverty, I did it and as Jag has pointed out, 90% of those who were once Poor have pulled out of it, through hard work and dedication, were we Lazy when we were Poor? THAT is BULLSHIT!
  21. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: I would like to make it a LOT harder to get government assistance, you have to be permanently disabled, or something like that to even think about getting government assistance. ... BUT, it must be helping them GET OUT OF IT, no supporting them to such a point that they feel that they are owed it, such as a lot of the evacuees in New Orleans. When I hear, "where's the government? Where's my food?" I know that we have a REAL BIG problem in this country... I agree to an extent, but at the same time, I remember when my father first left my Mom, she had been married to him for 10 years and had 5 kids with him. She had no job, no money and to top it off, our Apartment had just burned down, so we didn't have any clothing... NOTHING. She applied and got government assistance, to the tune of around $400.00 a month from Welfare plus another $400.00 a month in Food Stamps, plus Medicaid. Shortly thereafter, she got a job at a factory, paying what was then Minimum Wage, $2.50Hr. (This was in the 70's). As soon as she told Wefare, they cut off ALL Assistance except $200.00 in Food Stamps. WOW, that REALLY helps, you see someone trying to make it on their own, and you ***** slap them back into place! Shortly after that I got very sick, and my Mom had no choice but to quit her Job so she can get the Medicaid again to pay for the Doctors. Well after this, my Mom wised up, she ended up getting 2 under the table Jobs that she didn't report to the government and saved up enough to buy a run down hunk of junk of a home, that needed new walls, Electrical, Plumbing and a Roof. It was $2500.00. As soon as we were able to make the 1st Floor Livable, we moved in and My Mom got off Government Assistance, it was the Proudest day of her life, also keep in mind that my Father NEVER sent us a dime. Within about another 2 years, we were able to fix up the 1st floor to "Rentable Status" and moved up to the 2nd Floor (Takes Money to make Money). Another year and the 2nd Floor was ready to be rented out, and once the 3rd floor was ready another year later she bought aother run down place to start over. Point is, the Government does NOTHING to help you get out of Poverty, they don't allow you to save, you try to work and instead of rewarding you for becoming a tax paying citizen, they cut you off, no matter what your situation is and how little you're making. Also keep in mind that my mother had to leave us alone for her night Job because we got home from After School Care at 5:30PM, but she didn't get home until Noon. With Today's laws, she would have been prosecuted for Neglect. So what were her choices? Stay on the system forever? Get off the system and watch her kids starve? Or Cheat a bit, so she could get out without us starving to death. But I'm sure to you she was just another Welfare Queen.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: I was poor, and have been SO broke that I couldn't buy a pot to pee in.... I have been so far in debt that I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been loaded, and then broke beyond belief. My Mom was poor, and I mean POOR, but she went BACK to school, got her degree, and by the time I was 12, we actually had enough money to buy a nice car, instead of a POS car. I have been poor, and I have PULLED myself OUT of it, I have NEVER been on government assistance, even when I was so broke, I had to go through couch cushions to get a box of Mac and Cheese. I KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE POOR, and I will NEVER do it again.... I've never been on Government assistance Either, but I guess When you were poor, you were just being too lazy to realize that if you just worked a bit harder and wasn't so lazy then you wouldn't have been poor anymore, just POOF and that would have been it right? Point I'm making is not everyone that IS poor is a lazy ass that will ALWAYS BE poor.
  23. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Being poor is knowing that if you worked harder, had more drive, and learned to save, that you would ba as well off as your Sibling, who would then be asking YOU for help. Being poor is knowing that you are not doing everything that you can do, in this country of opportunity. Being poor is knowing that the education that you could get, is available to you, but you're just too lazy to do it. Being poor is knowing that the government will take care of you, no matter how capable you are... Being poor, is knowing in your heart of hearts, that if you tried harder, worked better, didn't expect things to be given to you on a silver platter, that you WOULDN'T be POOR!!! You've obviously never been poor, I was once poor and I can tell you that no matter how HARD you work, it takes time to get out of it. Sure there are those who have Zero ambition and no matter their circumstances, they won't do well, poor or not. But even with the most drive, ambition and perserverance, it STILL takes money to make money, and if you're earning practically nothing, again, it takes time. And if you call working 3 (yes THREE) Jobs as being lazy, well I don't know what to tell you, but even with that I was only making around 300 bucks a week, back in the early 80's because even though I was working around 80 Hrs. a week, it was between 3 jobs, so there was no overtime, PLUS back then most jobs only paid 3.50 to 4 bucks an hour and of course after taxes, you guessed it. SOOOO, it took almost 2 paychecks just to pay rent, the remainder paid the utilities. Another check went to the car and the other covered our food. That left me the ability to save around $10.00 a month, WOOHOO I was RICH.

  25. My brother recently lost his Dobie to Cancer and his toy poodle to old age, both in the last year. They weren't even MY dogs and I found myself shedding tears, so I can just imagine what you (and my brother) are going through.
