quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Fact is, since BCG is going to be the last BC title of its kind, there is a 99.9% chance that the GBS-III tools and support for Milkshape3D will be included. And all on the CD. This will end any aggravation, speculation, harrassment etc etc. Bless you, Sir, Bless you.

Understood. Thanks. **takes parade back inside out of the rain** I have a "Broadsword" heavy cruiser design in Milkshape that I think looks pretty cool. I modeled it to fit the profile for the Sunflash. If I made models in Milkshape could they be imported to Max and then exported to .3d? So, maybe, in the far future when I've got more money than sense, and I buy Max I can do something with any models I make now?

If you are referring to me --there are only two cadets right now it would seem-- then I fear that I will be of little use in the MP environment. I have no internet connection at home. All I can do is transfer files from home to work and back again. Alas... And, begging your pardon, Sirs. I heard something about being willing to die for Galcom in order to be part of Gamma Wing... I will not die for Galcom. Dead men do not win battles. Lost battles do not benefit Galcom. I will live for Galcom and find a way to win the battle.

Very good. Next question. What 3d modeller should I use so I can convert them into .3d format? I need to know if there is a free/cheep modeller that I can get my mits on that will allow me to do mods in BCM. I've got MilkShape shareware that I seem to be able to make rudamentary models with, but I'm not spending the $25 on it if I can't use it to get the model into BCS I'll watch for stunned silence... That's usually a sign that people are going Man... I can't believe he asked that..

Demon Spawn, or, where the heck do all these merc come from??
Falstaff replied to Falstaff's topic in Universal Combat Series
Okay. Now I know why their tac designation is "DIP".... I was flying past, what was it, "Baran"? The merc star-station in the Credian quadrant. Guess who shows up? A diplomat. Not unlike watching a suit and tie executive walk into the Bronx at midnight with a $100 bill taped to his back. -
Okay. I just downloaded both Blender and Milkshape and burned me a cd. I'll install them when I get home. We'll see if I can do anthing with it. Who knows, I might be a 3d savant. I am a man of many hidden talents. Unfortunatly I don't know what they are either, since they're hidden real well..

I am having a devil of a time with all the bloody mercs out there. It seems like every time I jump in system there is a merc chasing a diplomat. I get to watch the whole bloody gory mess unfold while watching the HJ meter slowly creep up. And I get blamed for it and lose ep. The diplomat did not log flight plans with me. I just happened in system when the dip got plastered. Why doesn't the dip get a bloody escort before roaming around all God's known space into hostile territory. You'd think they bloody well knew that there were mercs out there with as many of them that get destroyed.... No matter how many mercs I waste they keep comming back. They are pesky vermin. Is there a way to eliminate or hamper their spawning?

Gotcha. Stick around. Only talk about what you know when you know it for sure. In other words, don't talk out your a....hem. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Ahhhh.. Patience. A virtue I am impatient to have. However, I hope that there was no harm done trying to convince SC to put it out sooner. I mean, the squeeky wheel gets the grease, right?

Question about targetting space marines
Falstaff replied to TopSpeed's topic in Universal Combat Series
What? Plugging marines with heavy weapons platforms? Against the Geneva Convention? Better tell that to the U.S. military. They've been shelling enemy implacements since cannons were invented. Nope. Those marines are hostile--try flying a shuttle craft past them and see if they don't wing a missile at you! They are legal combatants and my be respected as such. I like to show my respect with the main guns on my CC. -
Another mystery.... Why a Galaxian Probe on a planet owned by the Galaxians? It is my theory that the probe came from the wormhole and crashed on Obsidia. It is a hint that there are Galaxians on the other side of the wormhole and they are scoping out a region unknown to them. Hostile or friendly? Dunno, but they seem to fry anything armed or in command and they are unseen. Cloaked ODS with "hand 'o God" technology? Who knows. Someday I'm going to have a transmatrix cloaking device and come back to take another look. Until then it's back to blowing up Gammulans and Valkeries.

An open letter to the powers that be.... It would seem that the current consensus among the testers and developers is that GBSII is too much of a headache to put into the hands of the general public since it would generate way too many queries for tech support, reguardless of how many times it was stated that it was an unsupported tool. I, and my fellow non-tester, non-developer comrades can appreciate this. However, this is my modest proposition. Why not make the GBSII available as a purchase CD? Not online for everyone to grab, but as a requested item only. This would alleviate several problems. 1. Those in the general public would have access to it, but those that were just hobbying around with it would not be likely to purchase a cd. Therefore, only hardcore battlecriuser fans would be likely to have their hands on GBSII. 2. You would have the names and addresses of those who purchased GBSII so you could carpet bomb their neighborhood should they ask stupid questions on your message board 3. It would silence people like me, because we'd buy it in a heartbeat and then get out of your hair. Oh... and if you're worried that it might get put out on the web for free anyway... That's called piracy. Not only would you ban the person asking stupid questions about it you could also track him down and sue him vigourously for trafficking in pirated software. Just a suggestion from your humble servant, Sir John Falstaff.

Violon sweet spot is the Port(left) side, about the edge of the viewable screen, sometimes a little off screen. If you hold your target on the first radar pip on the left of center it should eat it alive. Only useful for small ships, though. Use your main guns on anything bigger than a figher or shuttle.

And, oddly enough, they hate commanders. That prisoner I beamed down? I didn't look closely enough. He didn't expire. He went prone. He is still alive and well. So I sent down Resnig to take a look. I mean, if he dies in a hideous corrosive atmosphere big deal, right? He's standing there with his thumb up his nose looking at the probe. I sent down a pilot, a syseng, a flteng, a marine, and a medic. They're all having a conversation in a little circle around the probe! So it must be safe!!!! Nope. I beam down and die instantly with the rumble of thunder. "Don't stand there gawping like you've never seen the hand 'o God before!" Well... Thank the Maker for saved games.

Here's something weird during a station assault...
Falstaff replied to kschang's topic in General Discussions
Well... Sometimes the poor processor gets bogged down when the bases disgorge a hoard of ships and it's trying to display fancy graphics at the same time... At least that's what I think it is. If you just wait it will clear up. Your shuttle was destroyed by the intruder when you locked your tractor beam on it. You see, all the intruders are from Ancient Japan and belive in Death before Dishonor. When they realize that they are going to be captured they destroy themselves in the most spectacular and damaging way they can. Most of the above is true, you decide which part is false. Once a shuttle is launched by an intruder you can kiss it goodbye. I don't know if the marines aboard it could win control of it back, but I don't think so. I think it's gone. So I usually plug it myself so at least I get the satisfaction of blowing it up, not the intruder. Of course I haven't had to do that much since I started turning off power to launch control as soon as I know I have intruders aboard. -

The ship would be equipped with specially deisgned fighters with special bombs, that have the power of a OTS but can be dropped within the atmosphere onto targets the ship would also have several ATS missile silos for precision strikes on ground targets, and be be capable of carrying 100 Marines for quick strike forces. And you'd have the combined fleets of the enemy dropping their differences and hunting you down. Think "Bismarc"

quote:Originally posted by Marvin: An SC? How is it that an insignificant little shuttlecraft can descend into the Hades that is Stargazer and survive, unscathed, while my fully upgraded Warmonger, shields at full strength, quickly succumbs to the atmosphere and dissolves like a sugar cube in hot tea? Could it be there are powers at work here beyond the norm? Powers that allow an undefended shuttle access to Stargazer whilst a fully armed super cruiser disintegrates without mercy? I don't suppose it would be a good idea to try and use the shuttle's tractor beam, though. Yup. Shuttles and OCs are made of sterner stuff than CCs it would seem. When I tried planetfall in my CC I noticed lightning flashes across the hull as I took damage. Maybe it's got something to do with size. A smaller ship can get in, whereas the larger one is going to get beat to death by the planets energy field. Of course, before I did anything I beamed a cargo pod down and it was unhurt. Then I beamed down a prisoner. He expired. I deturmined that it would be a bad thing to get out of one's ship. Unfortunately the probe is not a valid tractor target. And it is not a cargo pod so it cannot be collected.

quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: have you tried getting BC3K running on your system? and if so what problem are you running into? Well, it's been a while since I tried. I guess I can try installing it again. I just remembered that it didn't want to run under windows 2000 pro after I upgraded. If it will work with windows 2000 pro then I'll try again. I mean, bc3k is still real cool. But I don't think it works on the NT kernel since it was designed as a protected DOS environment on Windows 95/98 or something like that..... Not sure of the details. Product info says its for win95/98 too.

have you gone to tacops and zoomed to the ground level, changed the view angle and panned the horizon? Sometimes little things like drones get put down and you can't see them from orbit until you do this. I've not used the R.A.N.D.O.M. yet, so I don't know if this would apply to it. I'm hoping to have R.A.N.D.O.M. capability soon... But I keep playing with my other profiles, so I don't get much time on my main profile. So many things new to try.... So little time away from work....

quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: Me personally I cut my teeth on an old fan utility for Descent called Polytron then went for a little Truespace 3 and jumpped immediately to 3DsMAX, after that it was a easy transition to Maya. I would suggest that you look up milkshape or Blender, though blender has a horrid interface IMO. if you are looking for professional or semi profesional Lightwave or Cinama 4d are realtively inexpensive and Maya Complete is only about $2000. $2000 ??? okaaaaaaayyyyy... With that kind of money I could buy a new rig to run BCG...... I think I will not make 3d modelling a hobby now. I bit too rich for my blood. Thanks for your help. Now I know that this is not something I'm going to pursue just to move a simple turret!

yup. I have got GBS1 with my BC3K. I have Windows 2000 pro on my computer so it does me little good. That's why I was estatic to find BCMG in the stores... I've not played BC since I upgraded to Win2k. But, anywho. I guess I could read the docs with it again just in case I should trip over a copy of GBSII....

To solve problem 3... Don't run out of radine. But seriously.. I don't know about the other two. Sounds like a pickle. You can order prisoners to the transporter. I had one fellow keep escaping, but my marines wouldn't kill him, just catch him again. So I beamed him onto the surface of mars and left him there. I didn't get the 2 ep for bringing him in, but I had fun stranding the persistant bugger.

Hrrmmm... I've never had trouble from ods systems. Am I just exreamly lucky? I've flown right up to them and shot them until they exploded. No problems. I've captured starstations with the ods close by--I mean, I can't jump to it because of its proximity. Ods systems seem to just be orbiting space debris in my game. I've always though of them as a sort of window dressing for the solar system. Maybe I've been playing with rattlesnakes and just haven't been bit yet.

That's the prob. I can't. Just about every computer here is less than 500mhz. Those that are capable of running BC are "owned" by snobby twits who don't let peons like me on their systems... Hey, I may be working a blue collar job, but its a hard time for PC techs here in Oklahoma. I know more about the systems here than the people using them... But I can't touch them....... AAARRRRGGGG.. So when it's slow I sneak onto a little 233 and "do email" and message boards. It passes time. I do get to sneak onto a computer that has a cd-rw, that's how I get patches. But they've recently changed its password, so I'm going to have to do some more covert work to get the next patch. I hate not having internet at home... But you know, with an addict to --ahem--less than savory websites living in the house, the only sure way to keep the computer clean is to have no internet. Oh well.

Well spank my behind and call me debbie.... I guess I should browse the main site occasionally, huh? Thanks!

Well, I was under the impression that a lot of the testers were against the idea of releasing it. Thus, it would probably not be released even thought the final decision had not been made yet. However, I've been known to get the wrong impressions sometimes What, me , misunderstand? As for convincing the SC that I'm responsible enough to use it and won't go whining to him when (not if) I screw up the game.. How the heck can I do that? He can't know that I won't bug him without giving it to me first. He'll only know I'm responsible if he gives me responsibility. I'll just wait and hope it gets released publicly. --unless SCs noticed that I've not posted too many questions about ctds, freezups, and the like, having searched, read, and fixed my system accordingly. But I'm not going to hold my breath on that one. I'm still a noob for crying out loud.
