  1. quote:Nah, what he is doing is pointing out that most leftist arguments are based in taking what the media and all legitimate authorities say, and turning around and saying "It's all wrong, it's all a conspiracy, and we should do the exact opposite". Evidence and facts supporting the opposing view aren't needed, the leftists just know that the traditional/acceptable/logical/rational view is wrong, and the opposite is right. Then why didn't he say so? And you actualy saw that from that article? Sheesh I'm getting old. You rewrote his article in two sentences with the proper introduction, reasons, and summary. Must be that new math. quote:The secondary procedure (congress deciding who wins), didn't seem much better. It would have just been putting a select group of politicians in charge of an election, which probably would have bugged even MORE people. I don't think the government can ever win. But at least they can be smart enough to do it right and cite due process. Was it a democratic congress at that time or a republican congress? No doubt in my mind there was tomfoolery on both sides. quote:I'm pretty sure the definition of nepotism is when someone in power APPOINTS someone in their family to another position of power.Nepotism is simply favoritism due to kinship. It is mostly considered to be applicable to appointments but once the appointment is made there is room for more favoritism. Hence my argument against it with regards to senators, governors, and the like. quote:It'd be unfair to George W. Bush and his brothers if they COULDNT run for office because one of the others was in office. Tough. Life ain't fair. Glad we agree on the rest though. quote:I just want the anti-war nuts/pacifists to answer my arguments. All I keep hearing is "Bush wants oil". You already said it. He wants to avenge his father. But there is no doubt in my mind big oil is pushing for every advantage they can get from the situation. Does it make this war bout oil? No. But it ain't gonna be pretty. quote:It's directed at anyone who can answer it, and so far, no one has.Because your points are bogus. Saddam is: 1. Oppressing his people/Violating their rights/Has no problem killing them Cuba, China, lots of other nations. Why Iraq? Why now? 2. Violating UN Resolutions/Agreements So? It's the UN's problem. Of which we are part. 3. Storing/devloping/has chemical and biological weapons So? 4. Anti-America Lamest one. So is Iran and most of Islam though the some of the governments are officially our allies. 5. A totalitarian dictator Castro 6. Irrational in terms of international actions Dunno this one pretty lame too. 7. *WANTING* Nuclear Weapons So? 8. Supporting Radical Islamic causes (Israeli suicide bombers) This is tougher. I don't think his rewards started as incentives but now that everyone knows about them yes it is now an incentive. quote:The BEST way to improve education is to privatize it, PERIOD. Dumbest thing I have ever heard. quote:the property taxes that are collected for education should be put into an accountThe government is not going to let go one one red cent it has already wrangled out of the populace. quote: to be used at ANY institution of learning of their choiceWho sets the standards? quote:Say $5000 just for grinsWouldn't help much I don't think. I think the current system is ok. A let's call it a partial voucher if you wanna send your one to private school. Since you (your brat) are not in public school and not a drain in the system this partial voucher helps defray the cost of the school of your choice. quote:My only problem is the idea that non-parents have to pay for the children of parents. That I can agree with. But don't privatize the whole system.
  2. quote:It doesn't make it ok or not ok... it simply means you can vote against if you don't like it. Sneaky basturd. Much like me. Been fun.
  3. quote:All six of those positions are elected by the people. And that makes nepotism OK because...? quote:It's not like Bush was elected and appointed his family all over the government. Now that WOULD be wrong and I do believe there are rules in place to prevent that. Seems I do remember some official trying to do just that. I forget whether it was local or national. quote: And the two Governors aren't even Federal officials.Your point? My point is that nepotism is recognized as "bad" throughout the country be it private industry or the government. It's just bad. It paves the way for shady deals. So then, since it is bad for most positions throughout the country why is it OK for the fed? Those two governors might do something to benefit the pres later. No telling what. No need to find out what. Fix it now before it breaks. Our current president was declared to have won the election based on the outcome of the votes of a state governed by his brother. Very bad form. It would have been much better had Florida not been the crucial state. Bush should have manuevered for Florida to be a non crucial state since his bro was guv. But that would have been nepotism huh? Fix nepotism. The 2000 elections will go down in history. Edit in. Bugger I hate editing posts. It makes them look bad. You never can tell what someone meant to say. For what it's worth I fixed some quote formatting. And one horrendous misspelling. [ 10-14-2002, 12:48 AM: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]
  4. THanks for taking the hint Dredd. Now on to maliciously attacking you. quote:Anti-Intellectualism=Most of the Posts on Here Another poorly constructed article. Please explain it to me. He went off on so many of his own tangets it's not even funny. Best I could tell he was calling the author of a comic strip bad names. quote:Would you please ANSWER the above argument I would but it seems to be directed at Lotharr. quote:State law said Gore was screwedBut this was a federal election. State shouldn't have any say in it. In fact now that I think about it there needs to be federal standards governing state elections for federal positions. It just coulda gone better ya know? The state should have demanded a recount perhaps. Seems to me I just saw another article where it quoted Florida's recount thresh hold. Something like 2 or 3 percent. I forget what the margin was in Fl but it was close. I guess what I am miffed at is the hijacking of procedure. It was fast heading towards the secondary process then everyone started getting worried and sued all over the place. I don't care who would have won but this was a fiasco and a debacle. Had they allowed due process to operate there would be no question. quote:Democratic ... country...it's the peoples choice. Not when you are pres, your two brothers are governors of two important states, your cousins are senators of three others. It provides too much of a power and control base. Our government was specifically designed with checks and balances of power in mind. That all goes out the window when nepotism is involved to a large degree. There are anti-nepotism policies in place thoughout this country. In my place of employment you cannot supervise a direct relative. Many companies do not allow fraternization. Why not for the pres? Let us stop building an American Royal Family. But all that is off topic and my own little gripe. quote:, just too long to type out Constitutional Democracy all the timeAnd that was shorter? hehe. quote:1. It didn't fail. It got rid of an oppressive regime and it caused the people to be free. 1b. Dying free is better than living oppressed. 2. The starvation is attempting to be taken care of. 3. The new "brutal regime" is not brutal. What you referring to is the outer areas and cities of the country being ruled by warlords, which is currently trying to be resolved. 3b. The new regime is an elected regime, and regardless is much more fair than the Taliban. I thought much the same thing. quote:Anyway, Bush has war power now After finally realizing due process. Too bad it was a poll of the public opinion feeling he needed to go trough congress when him having to go through congress is mandated anyway. Maybe that was from an opinion piece I read. Well that's enough for now. Thanks for bringing this back on topic Dredd.
  5. Jag started Part 2 for that.
  6. Very good. The theatre itself had the volume turned up a bit too loud but very good nonetheless. Definitely a rules guy.
  7. quote:When new yes. You can leave them out a bit longer if you have had the piercing for a while. I take that back. I talked to a friend of mine and her's actually do close up fairly quickly if not in use. quote:its scarred meaty flesh... dead tissue pretty much, i wouldnt feel a thing... probably not even be uncomfortable.Ouch. I'm sorry. Well if you want to call attention to it ... You could always say the puncturist (???) screwed it up really bad. That's a toughie. Live with a scar or try to do something with it. Eyebrow peircings are definitely not mainstream no matter the reason. But to continue the grossness I got my hoop back in today. My friend had to push it through some gunk that had collected in the back of the hole but she did it. quote:and boy i love how this blew so far off target, its like columbus landing in america thinkin its the indiesHehe, true. Home ownership; here is some advice. Don't play Keep up with the Jones. Play Fake out the Jones. Much more fun. I really enjoy cutting the grass on Tuesday or Thursday. Drives them nuts. I especially enjoy cutting the grass on a cloudy day when rain is almost certain. Then yours is all nice while they are waiting on theirs to dry out and it's having a growth spurt. Even better; be nice but be the first one on Saturday morning. Then listen to how many mowers crank up after yours. Ahhhhh, it's the little things in life.
  8. Meanwhile, back at the ranch;
  9. quote:take his clothesYou can leave naked bodies lying around? Sounds like fun.
  10. quote:Depending on the area pierced you have to leave them in pretty much continously for some length of time, or risk having the hole close up. When new yes. You can leave them out a bit longer if you have had the piercing for a while. At least for the ear. Haven't worn my ear ring in ages but I still got the hole. Worked a straightened staple through it a few weeks ago. It is at the risk of closing up though. quote:That's why people in jail/prison often stick broken off pieces of pen caps and other items into thier holes Broom straws work great. I've met lots of inmates who did that. I knew a saleswoman where I worked who loved big dangly heavy ear rings. Over time one of them actually pulled itself all the way through the ear lobe and left it split. Forget what she did but I think she had to have a stitch or two and let it heal completely before she could even wear studs. And that was all she was allowed after that. quote:i was for a split second debating whether or not to pierce my eyebrowEwwwwwwww. I couldn't do meaty flesh. Only flesh like the earlobe. Ain't home ownership fun?
  11. That damm Snuggles brand fabric softener Teddy Bear. It was ok when you could tell he was a puppet but this latest commercial he jumps off a shelf all by himself. Truly frightening. Worse than Chuckie.
  12. quote:cause I really want that to be read.I read it. I liked it. Gotta love that title.
  13. Been watching this thread. Is it anything like Thief or Dues Ex? In Thief you must often sneak around without being seen and can either blackjack people (knock them out with a night stick), shoot an arrow in them, or backstab them with your sword. I think Dues Ex is similiar but set in a futuristic world. The "Silent" in Silent Assassin implies this. If so, it might be something for me to get.
  14. quote:Anyway, Menchise, I couldn't disagree you with your more.I don't agree with him this time either but I value his insight as an outsider. Makes us think. quote: How was the invasion of Afghanistan an act of self-defense? As far as I know, the four planes didn't come from Afghanistan. The operation was implemented within US borders, and the hijackers received some of their training domestically.Uhhh, because. Hard to answer that one. But I think it's self defense because we took away a lot of the training camps and such. Did we invade Afghanistan? In a way. But we also liberated them. Hopefully they can keep going towards some form of democratic type government without harboring terrorists thus preventing any future training. In other words self defense. A man comes at you with a gun and you kill him. Self defense. Al-Qaida came at us and we "killed" them. Self defense. quote:An act of self-defense would be a criminal investigation into how these terrorists planned and implemented the operation under the noses of law enforcement agencies, and tracking down the domestic elements that made the attack possible. We did that too. quote: Done. I didn't like that article. First it only says thousands whereas you say millions. Second it was poorly constructed. No conclusive ending. To your next statement I'll quote Jaguar. It's easier. quote:And Bin Laden is dead, he died from the explosive decompression when a Fuel air explosive with about he force of a 5 Kiloton bomb went off at the entrance to Tora Bora. Hope so. A body would be nice. Would hate to have to say OOPS! Menchise, I value your views as an outsider. I disagree with you though.
  15. October already? I'm ready for ghouls and goblins and ghosties and such. My favorite holiday. So much fun. Time to say Boo!
  16. Sorry to hear that. Condolences.
  17. quote:No the one on the update site is older then the one I have which I got from my mother boards website.Oh, well I know the c-media update trashed my machine for BCM. Once I got rid of it I went back to normal. Running BCM perfectly fine (but a tad slow) with a 500 Celeron, 128 meg ram, and a voodoo 3.
  18. Viper2000: quote:from what I can tell this system should be fine to run this gameAccording to your specs quote:sound card make/model: C-Media Intergrated Stab in the dark on my part. You went to the Windows Update page and got the update for C-Media Electronics?
  19. Everwood; On The WB network: I don't know. I'm kinda iffy on this. Seems like a mix of 7th Heaven, Northern Exposure, and that movie Doc Hollywood with Michael J Fox. It's decent enough but mixing angst with humor puts a weird edge on the whole thing.
  20. quote:Birds of PreyJust started seeing the previews. Looks interesting.
  21. If it turns into a real joke will we be informed where to tune for further developments?
  22. Please direct your arguments towards America's Role.
  23. No. I'm sure he'll fix it come Monday when he gets back. quote:We can't make everyone happy, there will always be someone pissed off at us. Thats just the way it is.That much I'm aware of. I also think there should be things we can do to lessen it. Maybe not but I hope so. quote:That was a total fiasco made worse by the fact that it was the president's brother who was governor of the contested stateThat should say "current president" or "presidential candidate". My bad. quote:I can't picture them hesitating because we threaten to demolish a few homes of their relatives. That's for the run of the mill Palestinian terrorist who gets recruited by the terrorist groups. If they know their family's home is going to be destroyed it suddenly becomes less appealing. The ones who perpetrated Sept. 11 are different and you are right; destroying a few homes won't stop them.
  24. quote:You have to do something to deter those who would fly planes into buildings. That's true. On the surface at least. But we should do something else that helps mitigate the reasons for them to do it. A combination approach. What that is I don't know. More aid? Less aid? Advice? Back off? State that we will not discontinue support for Israel but try to maintain our distance on the rest of the region? Iraq being the exception at the moment. The whole thing is a complete and utter mess. I have no idea what to do but I do think we should not go in like a raging bull. quote:Did anyone notice the lull in suicide bombings when Israel started demolishing the homes of people who's family members attacked Israel?Sort of noticed. Worked for a while at least but they are picking back up. THis probably belongs in the other thread but it's tied in as well so what the heck. I think Israel ought to declare war and take them out. Or build that wall.
  25. quote:Did anyone catch Firefly last night? Man, it was hilarious!! It does seem to be getting better and better. Yup, just cheesy enough to be total fun. I like John Doe as well. Very good. Definitely getting an X-file feel with mysterious nasties floating about.
