Long but interesting article . At four pages it's almost a novella .

Monday: 7Th Heaven and Everwood. Tuesday: nothing I like is on. If desparate I will watch Smallville. But that's a Buffy clone. Wednesday: Enterprise then Amazing Race Thursday: Survivor Friday: Firefly and John Doe then taped shows My mom actually tapes Amazing Race and Survivor for a friend of hers. Mom has cable and her friend doesn't. After the friend gets through with the tape I get it. I have a standing "date" with a friend on Friday nights. We watch Firefly and John Doe then pop in the tape of Race and Survivor. She can't get those stations at all where she lives. Then if really feeling froggy we'll watch the movie I rented. {edit in] Oh, Saturday I try to get up at 6:00 AM to watch Yugi-oh. Pokemon and Mucha Lucha don't appeal to me so I get on the net. Then at 10:00 I watch the second Yugi-oh then X-Men. Then I flip channels and watch Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd (?) century (they cloned him and Watson is a cyborg). Sunday: I like Angel and Charmed. Dragon Lady had a good thought at one time. I hope she doesn't mind me paraphrasing her because I can't remember where she said it. Anyway she said ; umm now I can't even remember exactly what she said ; but it was something about gov't Control/assistance much past grade school. Now I don't know what eveyone else thinks grade school is but where I'm from you have GRADE school (K-6) then you have Junior High (7-9) and then High School (10 - 12). So let's say we have these vouchers. Let's say we can save these vouchers and use them as credits later. Much like Pollution credits are used now. Everyone goes to public school K - 6. Of course exceptionally bright students can go to private school. Heck even idiots can go to provate school if the parents choose. Their fault. But anyway, Most everyone uses public school till grade 6 and that's when (nowadays) the kids really need to start thinking about later. The really good kids with smart parents can get the best private education they can afford with the help of their saved vouchers. The kids who don't want to do anything special continue education in public schools and the parents get a refund ( full or partial or can even give as a gift to another student) of the vouchers they have not used. Heavens. I have just created another fund the govt can tap into. Nix the whole idea. Oh well. It sounded good. Reform education by paying teachers ( any govt worker really) competitive wages but INSIST on performance reviews AND make tenure more difficult to recieve. You will not reform education until you get rid of those who view it as a "gravy" job with an automatic three months off.

I must be an oddball. I'm left handed as well but I use the mouse right handed. I just learned it that way. Never gave me a problem. WASD seems very natural to me in games like Thief and the right hand controls the mouse look.

I am considering a reform of the rolls per the "three strikes you're out" policy that has been in place for a while now. I actually thought that everyone was taking a breather after the last round of insults.

I liked it. The ending was much more exciting than the first one. Course it helps if you go to the 10:00 AM matinee with a group of about 30 people. You can get kinda rowdy when you have the theatre to yourself.

According to this article from The Register, XBox Live immediately downloads a program to users' XBoxes which rifles through the system looking for unauthorized changes to the hardware. If any are found, the machine is cut off from the online service and from future updates... forever. If the box is later sold, the purchaser will find that s/he cannot have the ban removed. A similar sort of "digital self-help" was contemplated in UCITA, a law -- rejected by most state legislatures -- intended to allow software and hardware developers to forcibly disable products remotely if they believed a license had been violated. Fortunately, in this case Microsoft is not disabling the XBoxes entirely; nonetheless, it is still penalizing users who want to run alternative software on their machines. ------------------------------ Thoughts? I think if you own something you should be able to modify it anyway you like. However, I also think Microsoft has the right to ban modified machines from their network. Had they disabled the machines entirely I would be more than a little upset for XBox owners. They will probably start adding that little program to disks so that if you buy a game and the software discovers the machine is modified it won't play it.

The X45 looks exactly like an X36. Just some shiny metal in various spots, probably digital, and USB instead of that old D plug. Yes fighters have much faster turning rates now. They are lighter and more nimble after all. Derek was always getting slammed for "sameness" in turning rates in reviews so he changed it. Cap ships are wallowing pigs now. I also have the rudder on the throttle but for some reason the ship would only twitch. The buttons wouldn't work properly. That's why I created my own workaround and assigned it to the Hat. I now have all directional controls in one hand. Works great for me. True, there is no gradient but that's no worse than using the keyboard. For you, flying a much faster fighter, I can see the difference. For the throttle I have it set up as the 10 fixed position thing. The variable didn't work too well but this is ok because BCM has exactly 10 throttle positions. I also have it reversed so that full throttle is pulled all the way back. That takes a bit of getting used to but is far more comfortable. Doesn't have your arm stretched out all the time. M1, M2, M3 are NID, tacscan, and CVD respectively. The "fire" button on the throttle cycles through the phases of each. I usually leave this on M1 and just hit the fire button once at the start of each game to flip CVD into active mode. After that I have the left and right positions on the throttle Hat button assigned the period and comma keys so the throttle Hat button can now be used to cycle through targets in the CVD. The little "mouse" button I have assigned as "V" so I can use that to view the cargo of anything targeted. Useful on cargo pods. I think up and down on the throttle hat is main gun strength and pinkie shifted is PTA strength but I rarely use that. The two rotary knobs I can't think of a use for. That's about it. Mostly combat related stuff I have pushed to the joystick throttle combo and it works quite well for me.

CedricB I have a Saitek X36F joystick with the X35T throttle. Saitek's site doesn't even show this older model anymore or the X41. If it will work I will share the profile. Some of the things I have done are Hat 1 up = afterburner Hat 1 dn = retro Hat 1 lt = roll left Hat 1 rt = roll right. Works like a dream. Hat 2 is for the views. Fwd, rear, left, right. I mainly use rear view to "center" the planet so I can fly away from it as directly and quickly as possible. "A" button = line of sight targeting. Useful for targeting a station you wish to dock with or anything really. "B" button is closest attacker. That launch flip switch cycles missles and I think pinkie shifted it launches them. The missile launch button on the rear of the joystick does that too but really I slap the space bar myself. Hmmm, maybe I should pinkie shift the trigger to launch missiles. I have programmed a lot of stuff into the throttle as well. Joystick programming almost ought to be a thread. I've never seen one on it.
