  1. quote:Whad you get Another day older and deeper in debt. At the Dirty Santa Christmas party I got a set of cooking utensils. At the parents I got two salt shaker and pepper mill sets, clothes, a good oven mitt, and kitchen towels. For myself I got Paint Shop Pro 7.0.
  2. Anyone up for more tears? A Chance Encounter 'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the tent, Not a creature was stirring, not even an ant. No stockings were hung, no cups full of cheer, Just cots in a line, bracketed by chairs. Somewhere in the distance there was music and life, Hank Jr. was singing "A Country Boy Can Survive." One lonely figure rolled over and sighed, His dreams filled with family, hopes, and this lonely night. The tent flap zipped and who should appear, An old warhorse for certain, just minus his beard. His voice was muffled, soft and meek, He shuffled quietly, so that others might sleep. He looked too tired, from the time spent alone. Shoulders slumped slightly, many hours to atone. Although surrounded by evidence of humanity, His thoughts were pure and only of Home. With eagle eyes he surveyed all in his view, His flashlight his protection from what hid in the dark. The lounge chair beckoned him to lightening his load. Coffee was ready, His cherished favorite brew. His gaze fell upon me and a smile of long ago appeared, Time reversed itself and spun back 40 years. He reached in his pocket and pulled out the evening treat, Cookies from the dining hall, Chocolate so sweet. "Good evening Santa, these offerings are for you," "To keep you warm, take my cup of Joe." "We all here know you, with us you are secure," "Your memory is with us, eternal and endeared." "Think not sadly of us, for we do this by choice," "We work in unison, single action and voice." "Our crews fly willingly, go up every night," "We stand ready, where ever the fight." "We sacrifice ourselves without question," "No reason given, no quarter asked or taken". "Our Families are paramount, Our children and Wives," "It's for them we do this, Santa you must realize." "Sir, your duty calls, the stars you must catch," "You've a long way to travel before the break of day." "Your skies will be clear, AWACS stands watch," "Our Ghosts are out tonight, on your wing they'll stay." "Speed west, if you would Sir, America lies sleeping," "The Lady In The Harbor and her beacon await." "Though her surroundings have changed, her meaning is still clear." "She preserves your memory, and of Christmas Cheer." He slumped in his chair, his breathing eased with sleep, Childhood dreams of tin soldiers, cowboys, and the rest. Of Home that he had long forgotten, innocence he did keep, Once again he was a cowboy, a fireman, where in his dreams he was the best. Quietly I left him, deftly zipping closed the tent flap. These proud Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of Camp Justice I mark on my map. I salute each and every inhabitant of this Enclave of the Truth's Light, Merry Christmas Ghost Riders and Support Staff, And To ALL a Good Night. 3. I put this pic in the Ship's Schematics thread but thought it would go nicely here as well. It's a view from "inside" a station.
  4. Make sure flight engineers are assigned to "prep" the craft as well.
  5. Here is a pic of a view "inside" a starstation.
  6. Go to the Registration page login and put your name and serial number. It should take you to your profile. Copy that link and go from there. I'd check that as well but Derek wiped my profile and gave testers the option of displaying it.
  7. Whoops, my bad. The thread did not have "JJ" in the title. Apologies.
  8. quote:oh and how do i fix my sig :-) I can't believe you have the gall to even ask such a question after the Signature help thread which I found and the other thread WHICH HAD YOUR NAME IN IT! (Yes, I was shouting.) If you don't know how to fix it ask one of your fleet members. They can help you. If that doesn't work allow one of them to use your password, give them the id# you got, and let them fix it for you. Derek has already warned you once. He doesn't give many second chances. You have had plenty of time to fix this issue. I'm being mean but trying to save your butt. Fix it.
  9. Stupid things like this always get me teary eyed. This one seems a variation on another or perhaps it is the same and I'm just not remembering well. Already did the "email an American Soldier" thing a while back but it's bookmarked at work. Looks like the same one.
  10. Wake me up for the intermission.
  11. Somebody's gonna be dumpster diving.
  12. quote:And Charles, I wasn't looking for an excuse not to join, my problem I believe is I was looking for an excuse to join. I knew it seemed to be one or the other. Once you figure it out you will have the problem 3/4 licked. Best of luck either way.
  13. First talk to your wife. A very long talk. If you don't do this will you always wonder about it? I think you need to continue. After a long talk with the wife of course. Seems like you have semi-wanted it for a long time and you are just looking at another excuse not to do it. Sorry if that sounds cruel. Here's a thought and I hope I'm right. I'm sure the others will correct me. Do the four and come home. THEN get the sherriff job. I think military experience will give you an added benefit on that or any other civil service test. Do the Guard thing and go for two retirements. Look at this would ya? The only non-military never wanted to be in the military guy advocating going into the military. When all the others are not. Bet that comes as a shock. It does to me.
  14. Ep5. That was heartfelt. At least I felt it.
  15. quote:is "dinky" a noun or a verb... Adjective.
  16. 1 in 3? (runs)
  17. Ummm.....
  18. Here is mine. [email protected] I already got AOL so AIM would be clind10107 I suppose. ICQ: 14169676
  19. Personally I don't want to see the board shut down either. We have all been rubbing elbows together for a good while and I think they are starting to chafe. Time to lean back and apply some ointment. Shut it down for a "couple" days. Give everyone a breather maybe. Derek is being the developer (boss) and our friend. Too friendly and people take advantage. Too bossy and people get mad. Catch 22. Ya can't win.
  20. quote:Not at all Charles. I'm not even going to bother arguing over the technicality. Good. 'Cause I really don't know how well I would have fared. quote: At least it doesn't say every state in this Union shall be guaranteed a Democratic form of government. True that. quote:In fact, to get technical, the Civil War was actually fought over the secession of states. Would you beleive me if I said I had almost thrown that into my "technicality" post above? I almost did but didn't want to stir the pot or the kettle.
  21. quote:Article 4 section 4 "Section. 4. The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, " Was wondering when you'd bite. That doesn't say we are a republic. It says every State shall have (or be guaranteed) a republican form of gov't. quote:Preamble: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union..... I know, I know, it's a technicality. But you specifically asked for how many times the US was referred to as a Republic. It isn't. Not once. By definition we are a republic. By definiton we are also a democracy. We are also a union. And a confederacy if you really want to go that far back. We are many things. But one thing is for sure; it really doesn't matter what we call ourselves. We are the United States of America. Gotcha! Hope ya don't mind me picking at you.
  22. quote:the issue is finding how many times our country is referred to as a Republic, None quote: and how many times it is referred to as anything else - INCLUDING representative democracy. None
  23. quote:Yes they did Charles. First it was volunteers until the South handed Lincoln's ass to him. Then came conscription on both sides. Yeah, I found that out. I just finished the world book article on the civil war.
  24. Vixef: quote:In Norway we have mandatory enlistment. Some benefits from this are: 1.Since everyone have to serve, you meet a lot of different persons that you otherwise would not meet. 2.Because of the above you learn how to deal with different persons that you otherwise would despise and “hate”. 2.You get an army where you have people from every class in society and where nobody is better than the next. 3.Everyone is taught how to handle a weapon and gain respect as to how powerful a gun is. Very good points. Thanks for the contribution. Cur: quote:Same here. I think mandatory service is quite common in small countries, where there simply wouldn't be enough volunteers. Good as well. Thanks Paddy Gregory quote:Switzerland also has mandatory military service, but go to any bar in a town during bootcamp and the place is full of them. Most guys I know say the only thing they learnt was how to smoke dope and gamble . Ouch. Hehe. Slavery debate; did either side have mandatory military enlistment? Hey, gotta make some pretense of keeping this thing on topic.
  25. quote:compare how many times you see the word Republic, as compared to the word or words Democracy, Democratic, Socialist, Communist, etc. None of those words are in either document.
