Been a while since I watched the movie. Seemed like the feet were magnetic for low g stuff. Yeah it was hard to move. I agree with that. Or better it was slow. That's because there is a limit to how fast the pump can fill the hydraulic cylinders. That's why I chuckled at whoever posted above about a mech running 60 mph. I don't think that will happen. Tripping? It would be the operator's job to make sure it doesn't trip. Just like it's a forklift operator's job to drive carefully and carry his load properly. And I've carried some pretty scary loads. And there would be a limit to what sort of terrain it could operate in. But I can see some areas where one would be useful. Robots on the other hand...

Crane? Forklift. I did say non combat and you could obviously add some armor to prevent sniper fire. Since we're talking fiction anyway. But if they did build loader mechs it could go where a wheeled forkllift couldn't. At lest before they cleared the area.
-
What about those loader mechs in Alien/s (?) Those were cool. I would love to have one of those and I think they would work. At least in a non combat arena such as loading like they were portrayed in the movie.

quote:System, in the game, refers to a star system - not necessarily Sol. By In-system I always meant within the home systems of the members of Galactic Command. bolds are added. quote:Okay - suggestions for a new name for the ISS? I think you hit on the answer yourself. Make it plural. In Systems support. You keep the ISS and everything that goes with it. It signifies more than one system and not a singular system which hard headed humans like me would continue to think means Sol system. Perfect solution just by adding another s. (just don't add too many s's. we have enough s's)

Prarphrased quote "Well, we could rename it IQS: "In Quadrant Support"" I wasn't implying anything that drastic. I was just trying to point out that the use of the word "system" implies "our" current solar system as we (humans/BCM gamers) see it. Now that DeSylva has explained it, it seems better. MAybe he should beat it into our heads a bit more.
-
ISS "In(side) (the)System Support" means in our solar system does it not? At least that is always what I understood it to mean. now it means more.

What a topic title to introduce yourself with. Welcome to the board and the community. Your decision not to join a fleet (namely the Insurgents) is disappointing but perfectly fine. A variety of independents will make this game that much more interesting. Advice: Keep playing , keep learning. Question: What sort of system you got? Are you looking forward to multiplay? More advice: Your sig isn't the best considering the game's creator's name is Smart.

Insurgent recruitment

It's high time the Insurgency beefed up its ranks with some fresh members. We need some idealistic young warriors to join the Insurgency. We are currently looking for new members to join in the fight against the UFN. Those who would like to join the fight to restore the Earth to her former glory should consider the Insurgents.

quote:. What has the world come to? sigh. What we deserve. No one is going to host a site for free any longer without some revenue. Free site you put up with ads. No ads you have to pay for. It's a bad analogy but compare free sites with antenna tv and radio. Those are "free" but you have ads. Same with web space. Cable is relatively ad free. Yeah you get other "free" stations with all their ads but I think the movie channels don't have ads for products. I could be wrong here. Been a long time since I had cable. Opinion over. Rattler's old site: I got to really looking at the files Eclipse sent me. That site is from way back when; when we were a single fleet and had three "divisions". We are now four separate fleets. I don't know if it would be helpful to recreate that site just for nostalgia. Spectrefleet screen name also infringes on Aramike's command on Spectre Fleet. I will hve to change it to Insurgent or something that would encompass all of us. Meaning I am still willing to host stuff. If anyone comes up with anyhting let me know.

Was wondering where you had gotten off too. I got it and got it going. Got a "longer than expected" message when trying to add you. Will try again later.

Bad script or corrupted executable?

quote:The SC added this to the mission statement way back in the BC3K v2.03 patch - I think I remember that. He darn near blew a gasket. quote: Why? Because certain whiners were doing the BMC 'cause they couldn't figure out how to get a mission success. IOW they were to lazy to figure out, on their own, how to successfully complete a mission. It isn't that. The man is absolutely sadistic when it comes to those things. -
I have made a Spectrefleet screen name. Got another nice surprise while doing it. I have seven screen names in all. I had forgotten that. So I actually have four available to use. Get with me Eclipse and we'll see about re-creating the Insurgent one site.

Don't blame you on your general feelings Aramike. But good luck on getting insurgency.com It is a motion picture related site. Way odd thing here. I talked with someone on ICQ who wondered why we didn't have "insurgent.com" reserved. This was very recently. At the time insurgent.com was free. Now it's gone. Some site with no owner (none visible) and just a ton of links popped up. It is absolutely despicable that people would reserve names they have no interest in just to make a buck. Semi rant over. I have two screen names left that I would "donate" to the Insurgents. Each screen name has two megs each for web space. I know how to publish directly to AOL. I DO NOT go through Hometown AOL. Yes it IS a weird net address but it may do for now. Let me know. Charles

Aramike had Spectre fleet web page. Just for info I went poking around. In Aramike's Fleet DB profile it lists a web page address. Clicking on that you get a page that say page is not viewable until the site is upgraded to "personal" service. Exactly what that means I don't know but I'm assuming they want money. I absolutely despair that those pages aren't accessible. There were large graphics that summarized the Insurgent fleet hierarchy and I know that there was a lot of work put into them . Not to mentiion the work put into the web sites themselves. The stuff we take for granted. Sigh. I was hunting the Insurgent uniform the other day and that is gone as well. Maybe some kind of archive where we could save each others files and host them if need be?

They should be thankful there is free speech in this country...

Please be careful of the language warreng. A lot of the words aren't censored but we are expected to be polite. We can take the occasional ass but too many is not nice. Especially the hairy ones. (shudders) -
what do fleets do?
Charles Lindsey replied to warren126692's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Your duties in a fleet will vary depending on the particular fleet. For roleplaying everyone would like you to have a character name and a vessel name. If you become active on the forums people will come to recognize you. You will answer a roll call every so often and some may want a report. Some fleets have their own forums and ask that you participate there as well. As far as the game goes when we get multiplayer you will be asigned a patrol zone and be tasked with protecting it. Both from other players and the npc bad guys. From there read the fleet faq and see which one suits you best. Each one has its own priotities and assignments. And yes the point is to have fun. I can't wait for multiplay. I think the game will really shine there. -
I just can't do it.
