Three months ago I would have said racial profiling was wrong and even posted such. Now it's tougher. But once again someone explains exactly how to get around things.

I'm sorry to hear that $ilk. Condolences. The two cars I mentioned above were family cars. I haven't even started talking about the cars I myself have owned. Or the fact that the first time I ever, ever drove a car was in Driver's Ed. Or the fact that once I got my permit I was my mom's chauffer. Then when I got my license I was the family gopher. Fun at first but got old quick. I got some stories left. Others are welcome.

Dunno, been noticing that myself. Your Site quit hosting gif/jpeg maybe?

quote:Uh oh this is going of topic again. Nah, it was a car story. Though I did set myself up for that one. quote:Charles another thread on "How my kids are conceived" is probably in order soon. Now that's not nice, trying to get the moderators banned. Jaguar; Most Chryslers were ugly as sin in my opinion but you can't fault the motors. I can't remember the Sebring but I liked Dusters and Scamps and Chargers and Cudas. I also liked AMC Gremlins. A couple years after (before?) the Rambler we got a 1968 Olds 98 the same way. This thing was as big as a subway car and nicked as such along with land barge and various other things. It had a 425 4 bbl. No air and only 12 mpg. My grandma's friend had hand painted the vinyl hardtop with gloss black oil based paint. The rest of the car was painted an odd orange color my mother affectionately called baby sh!t brown. I was always a careful driver. Not the typical teenage hot rodder but some friends talked me into it one time. This guy with a 76 camaro with a 403 olds engine in it (so he said) just had to race me. I won 5 of 5. He could never get his back tire past my front fender. Then once my car got its momentum up it was all over. The power this thing had was amazing. It wasn't instant on like pocket rockets but you could feel it building up beneath you till it finally found its stride then you were gone.

As neat as this stuff is it's going off topic. I've created another thread.

Car stories, truck stories, wild, scary, dumb; let's hear them. I used to drive a 1967 Rambler Classic that my grandmother gave to the family when it would no longer pass the rust out laws in PA. The rear fender wells rusted through and you could reach into the trunk through them. It also had vacumn wipers. The wiper blade motor would run off of engine vacumn. Under load the engine doesn't create much vacumn so going up hills in the rain was very interesting as the blades would slow to a crawl. But if you ever got to the interstate they would go so fast I was scared the blades would fly off. I was delivering Pizzas in it one day. I was passing a bunch of cars but someone had politely left a hole so people could turn left. Just as I was passing this hole someone turned left and nailed me in the right rear and spun me around so each of the other three corners got hit too. That was an interesting sight. I took the front fender off and beat it out with a sledge hammer. It looked even worse then but didn't scrub the tire. I still drove it for a while before we traded it in.

What a Find! (Bargain Bin Treasures)
Charles Lindsey replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
Was shopping in the mall the other day and decided to stop into Gamestop. This store offers games of all kinds from console to PC. They sell new and they take trade ins. I found Omicron for $4.99 and Warzone 2100 for $5.99. Warzone is pretty neat. Can't get Omicron to run. It's like an arrow key on the keyboard is stuck. -
[rp]You have "mad " commanders Blades? Better get them their shots. [/rp]

Welcome Evan![rp] Glad To see someone sees the right of things. [/rp] We'll have to check on the status of the fleet DB soon. Got to get you in there as well. Blades!?! RP tags? Evan for the record, if you are teasing another commander and are "in character" you need to use RP tags similiar to mine above. [ 11-17-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]

I think I'm ready to go a round with Aramike again. Try this article on predatory pricing. It reads like an editorial but I think you'll like it Aramike. It sort of supports you. Then this one that sort of supports me. "Hardly. There is *NO* law that requires a product/invention to be SOLD. " I agreed not to argue this point any more but you might find those articles interesting. "Seriously, in a way, we're both right and wrong. My point is that the end-user is the final judge from a marketing standpoint, which is the standpoint that is looked at legally. But yes, we'd simply go around in circles. " Well, thank you again. And I certainly hope you don't see this as sarcasm. If you can give me a point or two then say "But I still think you're wrong" I can live with that. OK, done with browsers. "The primary purpose of ANY product that ANY manufacturer builds is to SELL and make money." Of Course. "As such, the basic function of those products is to serve the needs of the end-user." Of course. "As such, the end-user decides the function." Nope. Would you buy a lawnmower to trim hedges? Ridiculous I know but serves the point nonetheless. A web server serves web pages. That is the manufacturer's intended function and the consumer had well be smart enough to see that. "Now are you following me? " Not quite. "All the analogies were perfect parallels. " No sir, they were not. You spoke of Dodge then a couple others and they were as poor as all mine were. Sure a Dodge has proprietary parts. Dodge made it. But you could buy a Ford or a Chevy(which also have proprietary parts). Sure Dell has Proprietary parts. So do IBM and Gateway. Those are perfect parallels. Windows has no parallel. Maybe that will help. Differentiating between MS and the Windows OS itself. Just for the record I agree with a lot of the points here. Microsoft is a monopoly. Windows did win the market. But I think there were several dirty tricks along the way. Guess what? Read the two articles above and one mentions Netscape did the same damme thing. Heh. It's just a browser. True. You can get any one you want nowadays. Did MS practice predatory pricing? Not before Netscape it seems. The "Standards" argument. Tough one. No one yet has agreed on what the standard for Microsoft/Windows is except Microsoft. And the argument will get even tougher. There are standards everywhere. From the fuses that protect your appliances to the bulbs that keep you safe on the road at night there are standards. From the TV signals that you can see via an antenna set to the CD-ROMS you rent there are standards. Standards are essential. Standards allow each vendor an oppurtunity to manufacture to that standard so consumers have a choice in purchasing. As far as Operating Systems go Windows is the only one for all intents and purposes and is therefore the standard. So, even though I slightly agree with Tac, any OS to come out must be compatible with all current programs. No doube about it or they wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hades. I'm not an MS basher. Just like to talk about them. Then again I have read there is a big shift in the server market to Linux. Wish I could find those two articles in Business week. They were linked from Yahoo.

Gallion did it best with the X, Y coordinates. Me? Heh. -
quote:I think that TV news stations (especially commercial stations) have no consistent political orientation. They just take the side that will bring the ratings up. I'd rather have it that way. Maybe not the way it's supposed to be but better than political alliances.

Ok guys. Go rent the DVD "Antitrust" this weekend and tell me what you think.

quote:If they see flakes, schools get closed, business open late, busses go on snow routes... its absolutely insane. In Oregon? Guess so. Just refreshed my memory. Sandwiched between Washington and California. Don't you have a mountain range protecting you and a warm Pacific current? At least we have sense enough to wait till there is measurable snow on the ground before we close things. Then again the mere mention of snow and suddenly all the milk and bread is gone from the stores.

Correction. All Non-Galcom races are UCV.
-
Gammulan Web PageI think the Gammulan ranking system will be a mixture of what's in the manual and whatever they want. Insurgent's were allowed their own ranking system because we were outside of Galcom and there wasn't anything official in the manual. Shingen is correct on the independent thing. quote: and so far as I know, all non-terran races are deemed "UCV". Yup. and we've had that discussion as well. Almost every race could have their own designation "xCV" except Gammulans which would conflict with the Galcom GCV. I think someone suggested GmCV.

the worst moment when you are playing a game?
Charles Lindsey replied to Commander Jamont's topic in General Chatter
I was playing System Shock 2 demo. Was in the ship and just getting to wwhere the bad guys were (but didn't know it yet). I was creeping around with the spooky music getting me nervous and that weird whispering "we are. we. are" making it worse. I turned around and creepy dude was in my face. I screamed like a girl.
