I was just going to post about this. I tried the demo today after reading the write-up on it here: http://www.simhq.com/_land2/land_070a.html It's definitely been added to my Christmas Wish List!

After taking part in a successful mission against the Insurgents, I am proud to promote Commander Ixos to Level 4 Security Clearance. Your involvement in this mission was much appreciated, and of great value to our cause. I wish you many more successful missions, and further growth inside of Wraith Fleet.

That's great. Sad thing is either me, or people I know have almost all of those features. I actually used to work with a guy that wore a fanny pack ALL THE TIME, to work and everything. nice one.

Ditto on Studio 60, My wife had set this up to record, I wasn't really interested in it, but we watched it the other night and I was pleasantly surprised.

Proof that Jack Thompson might be right
Case replied to Raziel's topic in Laughter, The Best Medicine
That's not proof of games causing violence in kids, it's just proof that everyone needs a decent, fast PC. There wouldn't have been a problem if only his Mom had bought him the new CPU and memory he as for. -
Our beloved Space Sim genre. Revival or waste of time?
Case replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
I think it's somewhat a 'self-propagating' problem. Some time ago, FPS and RTS became popular, mostly due to one or two really good (popular) games in their respective genres. This caused lots of sales, which then got the support of the big name publishers. The big name publishers are now more apt to throw their money at those genres, so developers are able to spend more money developing them which in turn (but not always), will make for a better game, or at least a game that has been able to get more developer hours behind it. I think what will help to revive this genre is examples like Eve where it is making good money (?? just guessing from it's popularity, I don't actually know for sure) and hopefully being enhanced and able to be pushed through additional software lifecycles, causing it to get better and better. The publishing companies should notice that it is popular and making $$$ Hopefully some (or even one) of these indie titles becomes HUGELY popular and sells like hotcakes, until this happens, backing and support from the publishers won't likely happen (unless you have the rights to a big franchise like Star Wars or Star Trek). Near Death Atari pulls plug on new NWN1 content
Case replied to cutterjohn's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
Sounds like they are not releasing with the game, but hopefully soon after: ------------- Quote: Posted 08/31/06 23:00:38 (GMT) by Rich Taylor As the programmer that actually wrote the DM Client TDD, I guess I can give you a brief update on this subject that is so dear to some. As always, I have to qualify it with the disclaimer that all this is subject to change, as there are always things beyond my power to control, but what I state here is how things stand at the moment. Work on the DM Client will start near the time work on NWN2 finishes here (I think I'll take a short vacation somewhere in there =P). The current plans are to implement the DM Client with 100% of the features the NWN1 one had with maybe some minor additions. Then we'll release it in the form of a patch as close as possible to when NWN2 is actually on the shelves. Once that pass is finished, there are plans for more things on the DM Client. I have some ideas for it I think DMs are really going to love, but I can't really say anything else about it for now. -Rich ----------------- From: http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewt...orum=100&sp=120 Hopefully it is still in. I will most likely hold off on buying this until I know that it is in or not. -

Owner of software piracy site sentenced
Case replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
Nice. It's good to see this. It's bad enough when you see piracy run rampant, and people make s/w available 'free'. When a guy is 'reselling' cracked s/w, and making money from it, it's about a thousand times worse. Hopefully this helps act as a bit of a deterrant to others.... -
Darkling (and anyone else who wants it), I just put a copy of this file here: http://www.rowlinson.ca/wraith/files/UCAWA-Assets.xls

I have all the html files printed off for reference. I think you are able to alt-tab as long as your are in one of the command screens (like logistix).

UCSE Add-on D2D Version and AWA
Case replied to Case's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
Excellent, thanks. I was thinking that would be how it was, that's why I wanted to check before I bought it. I will end up picking up the full version sometime soon. Cheers! -
I have the Direct2Drive download copy of UC:AWA. I am wondering if I purchase the Add-on for UCSE, will I still be able to maintain a 'plain' AWA copy running on my PC? If this is either technically not possible, or legally not possible, please let me know. I don't want to get that version and not be able to play in the upcoming Fleet Action season (which will be on AWA). Thanks!

Ditto on AVG, I have used it on my home PC's and installed it for some clients and it works well. Last time I downloaded it, I noticed a program on their site called 'Ewido', it is an antispyware/adware program, I tried it out on a couple PC's now and it seems to work pretty well. http://free.grisoft.com

The new updater worked perfectly for me. Thank you for your effort SC.

I am getting the same error, but it happened differently. It downloaded to 83% this time, and then failed with the 'can't copy file updater'. Now if I run the updater again, it is failing right away (at 0%). Anyway, just an FYI, I will download from a mirror.

Same error. To clarify: 1. Run updater.exe 2. Click 'Next' 3. New Version (1.00.15) available! - click Next 4. Download files - the progress bars don't move, error pops-up right away "Can't copy file updater" 5. Click OK, Rolling back changes, 100%, Click Finish, app exits. My updater.exe is 579KB, Modified April 11, 2006 10:13AM

I am getting the same error, but I am actually only trying to update to 1.00.15. I hadn't patched to that level yet.

CTD during OTS Detonation
Case replied to grimm_spector's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
Run the cardtester.exe program in the game folder. That card may not meet minimum specs. Edit: I just checked the supported cards list and you should be ok. This problem sounds familiar for some reason though.... -
I gladly accept this posting. I will do my utmost to carry on the tradition of Wraith Fleet, and do my best to help rebuild it to a formidable force once again. Cheers!

Surfing the Web with nothing but brainwaves
Case replied to scorchedearth's topic in Science, Technology & Health
In my opinion, a LOT of things that William Gibson has written about (he wrote about docking into the 'net way before The Matrix was every dreamed of) will come true. Things like: - Elimination of a middle-class, leaving only 'haves' and 'have-nots' - Proliferation of private security companies to protect the 'haves' as the police can't do a good enough job. - Mega-corporations having more and more reach and control, rivally and sometimes surpassing governments in power. - Artificial pop-idols (as in computer generated), we are pretty close to it now if you think about how manufactured current pop stars are, the last step is to remove the 'human factor'. - Lastly, criminilization of tobacco, and legalization of marijuana. There are lots more, but that's all I can think of while sitting at work. Cheers!
