It somewhat allows for similiar scenarios, but is more useful. You run your regular OS, but then you can fire up virtual instances of OS's inside of virtual PC. So, you could have your install of WinXP up and running, and fire up a copy of Windows 98, or DOS, for gaming with older games. In the past, I have always used it for development; you can have a whole dev environment running on a single pc (database server, web server, etc.) Oh ya, make sure you have plenty of RAM. Each 'guest' OS you fire up will take away from your available memory.

The last time I bought 'bleeding edge' H/W was when I picked up a Pentium 200Mhz for $700.00. And that was cost at the computer store I was working at.

I put through last year for 2006 budget that the minimum PC would be 900Mhz CPU and 512MB memory. For the City I work for (of about 150 users) that meant purchasing 20 brand new PC's and cascading older PC's around where appropriate. So we also will be ordering about 35 memory upgrades and some hard drives. Our low-end users basically just use email and Word, so that spec runs just fine for them. Currently, there are a few PC's that are 500Mhz and 256MB Ram (running XP), and it is a bit slow, but still workable until I am finished the 'PC Shuffle'.

I am glad. I have to still support some win98 PC's at work, and they are terrible to maintain. We have plans to go to XP by the end of the year, hopefully this will help the priority of the migration project.

Looks like their (the 'script kiddies', I won't flatter them enough by calling them actual hackers, since it looks like they are just exploiting a common vulnerability) website is down. So that is promising. Hopefully a patch is available for this vulnerability to prevent it from happening again.

I think he means the loss of Social Security #'s and other personal info of Oregon taxpayers that was captured by the keylogger. If the person who wrote/installed that trojan wanted to he could sell that info to identity thieves. I am actually going to send this article to my boss, who isn't taking security issues at my workplace as seriously as I would hope.

My friend is an inker and does contract work for Marvel, over the last while they have really been pushing to try to get younger kids interested in comics again. Their interests have strayed elsewhere, probably due in large part to the increaing price of comics. I never got into comics that much it was too geeky for me (I was spending all of my allowance money on D&D modules/manuals) p.s. to keep on topic, I am looking forward to this one (GR). My vote for a good, 'bad' movie would be River's Edge. I don't know why, but I always keep coming back to this one, I have to watch it every couple of years.

Looks good here, I was able to load up an Instant Action scenario no problem.

Sorry about that, I think I got spoiled during the .14 troubleshooting process and you were firing out daily (sometimes hourly) patch revisions. Anyways, I will just keep an eye one the updater over the next week. Cheers!

Hey SC, I have the Direct2Drive version. The updater isn't seeing a .15 version. I even rolled back the .ini file to .13 and it says the latest is .14 Thanks.

SC, Good news that you are able to repeat the problem. I am not sure, but if you mean the logfiles that look like: ucawa.exe_########.time.log, .log, and .directx.log, then I posted about those files a ways back in this thread, and they occur regardless of whether or not you use the debug switch (for me anyway). Just finished testing. Confirming desperado's results. Ran the game (window, no logo) and get the same, black window then exit to desktop, no error message. ucdebug.log file is empty - 0 bytes. The only thing I didn't do this time was to reinstall April's Directx, I can try this if you want, let me know. I most recently reinstalled it just before the last patch.

Positive, it's there. I even ran it a few times and it's definitely being created, but empty. Good luck SC, let us know when you have something else for us to try. If someone else could also test this latest patch, that would be great to confirm it's not something wrong with my PC. Also to see if they are getting a blank ucdebug.log file.

I re-downloaded the directx update from your link in this thread, installed and rebooted. I the game with the switches above (/w1 and /d5), same result, exits to desktop with no error. There is a ucdebug.log file created but it has a 0 byte value, it's empty. First time that has happened to me...

Ran it again as suggested. It displays the empty (black) window with the title UNIVERSAL COMBAT: A WORLD APART (Version 1.00.14 of May 1 2006) then it closes. No error or message of any sort.
