Needless to say that is true; gun ownership is only one variable in the equation. of course, the information is all there for your perusal. Across the board, in cities with higher private ownership, violent crime is lower. You can draw any conclusions you want from that, but I know what I get out of it. But getting back to the original topic- Soback's point still stands. If private gun ownership were more prevalent throughout France, the riots would have most likely been stopped the first or second evening. And that poor woman might not have been set on fire. And that unfortunate man might not have been beaten to death. Etc, etc, etc. I laugh to think what would happen down here in my neck of the woods if a riot were to break out. Gun ownership in my part of Memphis is extremely high. I don't think rioters would get very far before my community banded together and started putting them down like rabid dogs.

Your numbers are not applicable to this discussion, since in the U.S. gun grabbers have managed to remove peoples' legal right to keep and bear arms in the majority of U.S. cities where the crime rate is the highest. It also ignores the fact that youth violent crime in general in Japan is up 300% in the last 20 years. Only a city by city analysis of the U.S. can tell the true story. In my view it is not even a discussion, since the numbers overwhelming support the idea that legal gun ownership is directly proportional to lower crime. This is my last post on this, since it is way off topic and I don't want to get in trouble, but the record needs to be set straight.

Off-topic, I know, but legal gun ownership is almost universally equated with lower crime, Nomad. And countries with total gun bans (like Japan) absolutely do not have lower crime rates. There are TONS of reports that prove both of these points. It would take me an hour just to post all of the ones I know of.

Nomad- If you are right, why do you think all of the major news sources have reported that the rioters are mostly Muslim and poor immigrants? I'm a little confused how two incidental deaths could have set off such a firestorm. It seems like they were just the spark that set off a powderkeg.

Decent flick, but it wasn't Doom. Doom has nothing to do with virally mutated monsters. Demons and Hell are the ENTIRE premise. Very disappointing. Could have been awesome if they just stuck to the source material. Because it stupidly wears the Doom moniker while having absolutely nothing to do with the Doom canon, I give it a 3 out of 10. Had it been a movie of any other name, I would have scored it much higher.

Grizzle - Almost every report on every news channel refers to the rioters as "pre-dominantly Muslim". That the government of France is Socialist is not necessarily a root cause, but it can't be ignored for its weakening of French society. It almost certainly is a factor in the rampant poverty and unemployment in France. Exactlty how does a country "integrate other cultures"? This statement thoroughly confused me. (Not all that hard to do, I admit.) My ancestors were Italian and they integrated themselves into this society.

Nomad, I think you might be over-analyzing the issue. Socialism by any other name is still socialism. France has imploded from within since pre-WW2. They are weak as a country because the goverment has never taken steps to make them strong. The people of France deserve better, but they have been lulled to sleep over decades of Socialist infection. It seems like they are awake now, but do they really even know what they want?

Grizzle- A little consistence is in order, I think. If these were some Arkansas rednecks doing this, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be marching around screaming to the high heavens, and the outrage form the "blue states" would be deafening. The only thing deafening from liberal Democrats is their SILENCE. As far as being enraged goes, most conservatives have personal experience of this double standard, so this is nothing surprising, just another of many examples of liberal democrat hypocrisy.
