Campaign Discussions - SPOILERS!!
Eclipse replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Universal Combat Series
Well my first time through I missed the smuggler but kept and escort on the upgrades, second time I almost missed him but finally managed to id him after putting probes and craft in all adjacent sectors... didn't catch anyone else and didn't get and eps or loose any either. So on to mission 2 -
A little update on the ACM... I move slow With the commander ACM I finished the first mission... nearly had one trasport get through but luckily I had my forces defending all exit points to Jupiter and a fighter in pluto and mars to catch anything else. That mission finished and I didn't get any -EP's so I guess I did everything right. I started the second mission but the transport gets destroyed well before I can get anywhere near my patrol zone... will have to think about that a bit before I finish it.

long distance relationships greatly depend on the people involved. Some people have the determination and tenacity to make it work and see things through and it works out just great. Other people don't think its worth the extra effort to put into kepping the relationship alive and things fall apart.

No. I there was a Galcom vessel under attack by a gammulan, I'd help the Galcommie take out the Gammie. I also don't believe the insurgents have formal alliances, though it's obvious that some races tolerate our presence and are even friendly to us. [ 09-05-2005, 09:39 PM: Message edited by: ShoHashi ]

Got my copy this afternoon. Installation went fine, had some issues typing in my CD key in the MP window (user error) Game runs fine with as many of the bells and whistles I can find turned on so thats a nice treat. I did start getting texture corruption with the skybox and HJ tunnel after returning from Tacops but it could be driver related (upgrading now) beyond that everything seems good will do a more detailed sandbox session in a bit and then break out the ACM.

In July 2002 I said the following on Iraq...
Eclipse replied to a topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
I concede the point that PNAC has been seeking the possibility of using military intervention in Iraq since 1998. However, there is much more dynmaics involced with the declaring war than 3 men pitching the idea to the President. Last I checked any incursions over 90 days(IIRC) and declarations of war must be authorized by congress. Would you have me believe that all of congress was "in on it?" 9/11 is still the catalyst that created the climate that allowed the invasion of Iraq to take place. -

I never said he or Iraq did $ilk. Iraq is part of the attempt to grapple with a new kind of war. It is a ripple in history caused by 9/11 no matter if Iraq and Sadaam were involved with 9/11 itself. -

Iraq in my mind a a touchy subject. Is it a preemptive war or just a second theatre hotspot in a new "cold war?" In some reguards I would consider that it is not a preemptive war in that war has already been declared on the US by Bin Laden and his ilk. True, there has been no formal declaration of war given by Al Quaeda but the 9/11 attacks appear as echoes of the pearl harbor attack in 1941. As the Japanese attack then, the attack on the twin towers itself has become Al Quaeda's declaration of war. The difference today is that we have no defined territory or empire to focus our attention. Terror is a people without borders and a race bound only by ideology; a hydra that does not follow the the rules or borders of "civilized" warfare. It is an enemy that trancends the physical battlefield and will not nor can be completely eliminated by the armed forces. I have no doubts that wherever the head is reared our military will be fully capable of severing it, but as it falls another emerges in a different theatre. This is a new force, a crossroads between modern war as it has been defined since WWII and a emerging ideological war. It is this "hybrid" war that I believe we are currently attempting to adapt to. As we grapple with it mistakes will be made and setbacks will happen. Is Iraq a mistake? Only the future will tell us that. Whatever the outcome may be, history will judge us harshly if we fail to complete what we have begun. -
I remember Force Commander, not too bad a game but I'd prefer a game that lets me play though an entire Imperial campaign. It seemed like for a long time Lucasarts like the formula of 1/2 played as Imps, 1/2 played as Rebels.

No harm in trying to get people to join... they still have to follow procedure, but you've done nothing wrong

Saw the trailer to his one when I watched either fantastic 4 or the Island... looks more like a political statement than a decent movie

Woot!! nicely timed... right at the start of the month... before I blow my budget

I saw this last night and I went in with low expectations for it. I was pleasantly supprised, yes there was that big plot hole about the employees, yes there was one very random cut, and yes there was the feeling that "wow they put in alot of branding" but there was only one or two times that the branding really felt lout of place beyond that it helped add grit. The movie did bring up some interesting questions but overall it was a little bit meh.. 7/10 for the questions

I know this has been out for awhile, but I picked it up about a month ago and its been festering since. this is my take on the game: I'm a little upset after attempting to play for the last few weeks. The problems with this game are not in how the core mechanics of the game work or the design of the levels or the abstract representations of cover. The problem lies fully with two very specific decisions: use of save points and the no friendly casulatie ROE. I'm sorry it doesn't take but a glance into the history of the past 3000 years of war to understand that while tragic, people die in war. So telling me or any other squad leader to in effect capture a city while taking no losses is in a word ludicrous. Add onto to this the "sitrep" points that force you to replay large chunks of the levels over and over until you remember every enemy location and scriped event until you finally get to the next one and you have a disaster waiting to happen. The final piece that pushes the game over the edge is the total lack of response your squads have. Case in point, there is no cover from where you are to the cornder of the building you want to move out to. You set one squad to cover your six(alpha) and tell the other(bravo) to move up. Bravo is about two feet from the corner when a target runs around it. Does bravo engage? dive for cover? nope. They keep running right past him. Ok maybe thats an isolated issue one that doesn't come up much. Next case: Alpha is give a bounding move order with a fire sector to suppress a known enemy position. In the process of the move order, the enemy moves out of the cone an advances toward alpha. Alpha does not redirect fire on the target. The target then walks withing two feet of the forward elemts of alpha, who are now blindly watching the empty position, and proceeds to mow alpha down. If taken individually these design decisions would simply be annoying, but when you add them together you have a recipe for disaster. Unless you enjoy venting at your squads stupidity and replaying 1/3 of a level for the nth time pass on this one. Graphic: adequate, Sound: great, but a little heavy on the language, an option would be nice. Gameplay: 5 (for the core mechanics) Design: 1 (failure to make product accessible) Overall: 1 (More like all rough and no diamond)
