  1. I'm in the same boat as $ilk. I'd be glad to help out, but constantly picking up new games is a burden on the pocket book.
  2. quote: The reason why half pushed the final button was not because they were bent or tended towards torture or murder. They pushed because they were told to do so by an authority figure, despite the intense physical reactions that their own bodies were going through. This proves that such destructive behaviour is not within human nature; it is influenced by social constructs that have conditioned human consciousness.Menchise, What exactaly IS this "evil authority" Is it those over you? Employers? religious? or perhaps government? It really does not matter who they are or what they are called. They are still made up of the same thing: people. Yes your "evil" authority is made up of those wonderful beings incapable of causing anothers harm we call Homo Sapians. Now that we have defined WHO and WHAT the authority is made of what causes them to issue these orders? Are there simply a few "misguided" humans who blindly follow the rules demamded by the authority? Even if you answer yes it still leaves the question of WHERE did those "evil" regulations come from. Did they just appear out of the blue? No, HUMANS made those regulations and rules that your "evil" authority promotes. And if the source of this evil is humanity, then it follows that humanity is by nature evil. If this is the case, and history shows that it is, then socilaism can NEVER WORK.
  3. You are correct, my mistake.
  4. quote: Why?The arab nations surrounding Israel were vehemently oppsosed to the creation of a separate Israeli state after WWII. They vowed to erase that state from the map once Britain pulled out. After their failure to destroy Israel then, these arab states have tried a couple of times to again destroy Israel. Each attepmt has met with a loss of land for the Arabs. That at least is the modern view; the conflict itself goes back several thousand years. quote: Palestinians were living in what is now modern day Israel before the yishuv (Jewish settlements) even existed. Sending them back is exactly what Israel does not want to do. The Jews actually had posession of what we call modern day Israel since at least Babylonian times. After they were returned from captivity they once again possessed this land until the Roman Empire absorbed them and I believe they were still settled there until 70AD when Titus was sent to quell the Jewish revolt. Since that time Israel has not had posession of the land we call Israel.
  5. Pearso you need to press ALT-9 not SHIFT-9 to activate the hj.
  6. Happy birthday Derek. ...Try to relax if it's possible.
  7. Happy Bday Gum.
  8. Well I've just finished GR, and beat OFP sometime before Christmas. The short summaries: Ghost Recon is Rogue Spear outside. Operation Flashpoint is a sim based on how a war would probably have been fought in the 80's The long summaries: GR covers more of "modern" combat, small squads of soldiers carrying out short missions. This in't bad, but in the course of the campaign I found that I would heavily rely on manual control of squads to get the job done. In fact it wasn't odd for my sniper to come through a mission with 20+ kills. The AI seems pretty stupid at times, I would peg a soldier and the rest would drop for about two seconds, after that they would stand up like there was no danger. I only saw an AI use grenades or AT rockets 2x in the entire campaign and the AT soldier seemed almost scripted. A major problem I had was the portral of armor. I think the tanks must have pretty weak motors for rotating their turrets as well as for actual movements. These units were very slow in target acquisition and movement in my opinion this took away from their believability. I found the weapon combinations and sqad member experaince quite intersting. Another nice adition was the damage model, It was nice to see that getting hit actually affected the troops. eg. leaders took linger to plan a course, stealth and accuracy drops if wounded, etc. The weapons themselves didn't seem too different, the OICW and M16 were nearly identical save for the grenade launchers and the accuracy speed. Sniper rifles were ok, but the two I used in the course of the missions only seemed to vary in how much ammo they had per clip. Of course the M249 acted as you would expect a large machine gun would. Graphically the game is better than Operation Flashpoint but it does not try to accomplish the scope OFP has. I've not been able to play MP with it, but if it continues the tradition of the RS games it should really shine. Overall for SP it's fairly medeocre, just another RS and with MP I can't answer ATM. Operation Flashpoint is a fairly different game. Instead of focusing you in a smalll limited map, they expand it to cover an island. This gives the gameplay a much greater range of options than with GR. Combat usually takes place and a longer range than GR and involves quite a few more troops, and armor is depicted more closly to "real world." Here again there doesn;t seem to be too horribly much in weapon variety but they all act about how you would expect them to. The scope is expanded by the ability to command vehicles as well as having a much better command interface than GR. As for gameplay it gets quite chaotic at times with all the troops and vehicles thrown into the mix. AI works much better than in GR and seems to competantly act for the most part, though there are times you wonder what it was doing. A major differance is the atmosphere, in OFP There is just something about a line of troops back by armor cresting a hill that just isn't matched in GR. Neither is the sense of tension and suspense in many of OPF's missions captured as well in GR. Graphically it isn't quite as good but the graphics aren't too terribly aweful. MP could be fun if there were enough people in the server, but I'm not sure how well this has turned out. Overall the SP campaign is much better than GR, and I can't compare the MP ATM. Both are good games, but if you are looking primarily at SP, get OPF. Other than that Thats about all I can say about them.
  9. I haven't picked up either of those yet. What I can tell about Starship Troopers it is more RTT or Realtime Tactical but I haven't played it so I cannot classify it as this yet.
  10. I do not beleive that there are any true RTS's and that if created a true RTS would be rather boreing. In my experiance with the "RTS"/ Strategy genre I find that SW:Rebellion, Shogun are good with Grand strategy and that SW:Force Commander manages to partially alleviate the problems inherant to RTS games.
  11. Welcome back and congrats on getting a job.
  12. I look forward to cleaning up the scrap.
  13. Carl... SFM's don't have HJ capablility. If you wish to attack a station, now that they can actually defend themselves, without cloak... go right ahead. I hope you enjoy watching your CC blow up as the first wave of marines are launched.
  14. The cutscenes in SC weren't too bad either...
  15. Interesting article.
  16. Still here as always.
  17. WB, Rattler, long time no see.
  18. ouch....
  19. quote: The page displays great in IE 6.0.2 (default in XP). I run at 1024X768, and at this resolution the main page interface is very small, and there is a lot of empty space on the page. I see where you are coming from on this and I did think about it before I created the page. I decided that a static layout would look a better than a fluid one. The basic reason behind the size is that it is close to the default unmaximised browser window. I decided that I would have to sacrifice a small ammount aesthetics for larger browser windows to maximise browser compatibility. If I get enough people using browsers maximised I will probably change it. quote: Also, when you click on a picture it would be really cool to have it open up fully maximized so you see your glorious artwork right there in front of you. I'll look into this, thanks for your comments [ 02-18-2002, 13:33: Message edited by: Eclipse ]
  20. I've completed the third incarnation of my personal portfolio site. I have tried to test it and work out any bugs, but I don't have the range of systems and browsers represented here. I would appreciate any feedback if there are problem with the site. http://www.digitalequinox.com One known problem is with Netscape 4.7, sometimes the tables pop up with wrong sizing. not totally sure what causes it since it doesn't happen all the time. Thanks, Aaron
  21. Well for starters, it might not be a good idea to jump to a station while above the station's plane...
  22. I like the universe, but I'm not too sure on the actors... though I did hear that the Rev character had to leave because of alergies to the makeup used in his costume.
  23. Well, I guess I'll say hi here as well
  24. Good for finding cloaked ships if used right, also good for interferance with fighters and the odd station attack. Might even be good for bombing runs on planets, haven't tried it though.
  25. Maybe not near impossible, but perhaps bump them up to difficult to beat would be nice. *waits, hoping SC will increase the difficulty*
