Whenever I hyperspace to an object (ship, station etc.) and the path takes me through a planet, about 5-10 seconds after I emerge from hyperspace, I get dumped into the atmosphere of the planet I passed through (no matter how far away from that planet I emerged from hyperspace.) This happens to me in both the release version as well as the 1.0.01 patch. Is this a feature or a bug? Thanks.

You will only enter the planet if you are within its orbital pull. Like everything else (e.g. running around with scissors), don't HJ when close to a planet. In fact, it ranks up there with flying a fighter at 1000 ft AGL when you don't even know how to fly. Catch my drift?

This works as designed

Sometimes you don't know a planet is in your way when you enter a system and jump to a spacestation. You have to check Tacops, (alt-s)? If the station is behind the planet, you go through the planet if still in hyperspace when you get there. Only a few times have the game forced me to enter orbit. I believe it depends on how far from the station is from the planet. I'm assuming stations orbit at different hights from the planet, and not at a default height.

Heya!!

Just had to chuck in my 2 cents. I have had this problem also and on more than one occasion.

Here is what happened: I was near FLX 4 (on the Mercury end) when I noticed there was a Storm Carrier near Mercury. I decided to take my Garid and teach him a lesson. I hypered on over just as I exited Hyperspace and begin maneuvers, the cutscene came up and I was on Mercury.

Once again I was at the Flux 4, targeted a StormCarrier that was close to Mercury and wound up on the planet without receiving "Do you want to make Planet fall?" message. This has happened near Pluto and Earth (while leaving the moon) as well and I was nowhere near the atmosphere.

If the station is on the other side of the planet you targeted to hyper jump to, and you emerge from hyperspace to close to the planet, your proximity to the planet may trigger the ship to enter orbit. It happened to me a few times.

Look, if you are comming out of hyperjump close to a planet you will be pulled into it's atmosphere. It's as simple as that. If you are in hyperjump and it takes you close to the planet or through it but your exit from hyperjump is farther then the gravitational pull of the planet you will not be pulled in. There's nothing more to it.

Another excellent example of the realism and depth of the BCM universe, IMHO. And more forgiving than it needs to be - 'realistic' could mean that you're a** is flattened against the bulkhead as you emerge from hyperspace whilst careening through a planet to a station on its opposite side...

Try setting the autopilot on any decent flight sim for a GPS approach to Aspen airport - gets you up close and personal with a few of teh Rockey Mountains...

It goes where you point it, so make sure you know where you're pointing it

Hmm I dunno.

Soback:

I Hyperspaced for 5 more seconds through the Earth before I got pulled back to the planet. I think I was away from the Gravitational pull by then.

Mitchelle:

Check page 50 of the manual about slamming into things while in Hyperspace.

Anyways, I love this game and cant stop playing it. (was that Cliche`?) But its true. All I'm doing is pointing out that these things happen. I personaly use my Imagination and blame it on the Nav Officer (and Flight Officer). Next time It happens I think I'll look at em smile and say. "Great Idea!!" We needed to mine some minerals anyways...And thanks for Volunteering for DRONE ESCORT DUTY!! BUWAHAHAA!! (And I will Laugh )

Oddly enough, a few times when I've already been close to a planet (and I mean fairly close, just a ways off from a space station orbiting it) I've hyperspaced right through a planet. It usually happens when I'm on a slight angle to the planet so I "skim" through it. There aren't any adverse effects, though, and I've never wound up making planetfall. Probably just a wierd side-effect or bug, no big deal really.. just thought I'd mention it.

No, you CAN hyperspace THROUGH a planet because so to say, in hyperspace, matter doesn't matter. What I am saying is if your exit portal is close to the planets gravitaional pull, you will exit hyperspace and then enter atmosphere. If it's not, then you will exit and continue in space. So if you enter hyperspace and it takes you THROUGH a planet, and you see your ship flying through a planet, you will not enter the atmosphere unless you exit out of hyperspace near the planets pull. That's why you can exit the station, hyperspace to some flux gate and go through the planet and not enter it's atmosphere, but if you hyperjump to some station or obect that is close to a planet, and come out of hyperspace near the planet there's a chance that you will be too close and enter atmosphere. Anything that is not understood ask. I will try to explain more.

You did a wonderful job of explaining it

Uhmm but what I meant was that "I hyperspaced for at least 5 more seconds AFTER passing through the earth" that was before the Exiting Hyperspace message came. I was pretty far away by then.

If your ship is still moving when you drop or you have your thrusters on prior to jump, what do you expect?

If you were in a large cap ship, the HJ Transit time is extremely slow in the beginning and end of a HJ. 5 seconds doesn't bring you very far at that speed. Try it yourself, and watch your distance from something as you start to HJ and come out of HJ in a big cap ship. Takes a while for you to get momentum (depending on how far away target is).

So chances are that your exit was close enough to the planet's gravitational pull.

Nope. The thing is he's hyperjumping after an enemy ship, not the station. You will jump within 80 kliks of your target, if the target is near the planet's gravity well (read: planetfall entry point, aka 100kliks) you will exit hyperspace INSIDE the planetfall range..and will enter atmosphere.

If you see an enemy fighting near the planet your best bet is to target the nearest orbit structure (station, ODS, supply station) and jump to IT... and then fly to your target.

Cmdr Nova hhhhhh!!

Pleas re read. I'm still in Hyperspace for 5 seconds after "passing through the planet".

/rp. Pokes horse. "Is it dead yet??"

/rp. Gives it another kick.
