Blades Posted July 19, 2001 Report Posted July 19, 2001 Imagine this. I just upgrade to ISDN, only to discover about three seconds after connecting for the first time that some ******* has hacked his way in and decimated my primary partition. Not impressed.Several hours later and a hastily upgraded firewall and Im back in business ... but as a consequence my vast ICQ contact list is gone the way of the Dodo. So, if you used to be on it, or wanna be on it now, go ahead and add me.#43692958
Logan Posted July 19, 2001 Report Posted July 19, 2001 Ouch, partition.. Static IPs always do seem to be a pain. Not havein much luck myself.. Hey, anyone know where I can get the free version? Format of the good ol' HD, forgetting my CD was gettin borrowed by bud.. I've got the preorder in for BCM, but dont really want to wait.. Must have my daily fix of BC..
GREG MILLER Posted July 19, 2001 Report Posted July 19, 2001 Is this your same number Blades, or did you get a new one?
Blades Posted July 19, 2001 Author Report Posted July 19, 2001 Thats the same one I've had for the last couple of years or so Greg.
Parias Posted July 19, 2001 Report Posted July 19, 2001 I'm glad to say that I've been on cable for at least a couple of years now and haven't had any difficulties... sorry about your problems Blades.
Guest Posted July 19, 2001 Report Posted July 19, 2001 I have had a few problems with hackers trying to either A: putting trojans on my hard drive, or b: loading up Virus to kill my system when activated. Never had them physically take out the hard drive, that sucks. I now have 2 firewalls, 2 full time virus scanners, and a trojan identifier. Sucks to have to have all this stuff running while I'm on the internet, takes about 20% resources, but they haven't gotten through yet!!! Cross my fingers, and knock on wood!!
Guest Posted July 19, 2001 Report Posted July 19, 2001 best antihacker defense is no firewall...but leave a nice .txt file on C: labeled "Hacker Read This" ... and include all your porn, warez and full list of programs in your HDD with the note "Take what you want, hackers unite!"
Blades Posted July 19, 2001 Author Report Posted July 19, 2001 Well, it's the first and only attack I've ever been subjected to, so Im not gonna get too paranoid about it. I was actually planning on reformating that partition on the weekend anyways, but I would have appreciated having done it in my own time rather than have it forced on me. Still ... I'll leave a note in future just the same.
Maxamillian Posted July 20, 2001 Report Posted July 20, 2001 Watch out for the "bots" Tac, they are out to get the unguarded... 'MAX'
Menchise Posted July 20, 2001 Report Posted July 20, 2001 If you want to test your internet security, go to GRC and click on the 'Shields UP!' link.Hint: If ShieldsUP! greets you by name or computer name (for example, "Greetings BC Online!"), then you really need to be worried about net security.[ 07-20-2001: Message edited by: Menchise ]
Guest Posted July 20, 2001 Report Posted July 20, 2001 I test myself on this at least once a week, this guy is good, if he can't get in, well, no one can!!!
Wolferz Posted July 20, 2001 Report Posted July 20, 2001 I test my system at the GRC site often. I always get the same result. STEALTHDuring peak times, my firewall will report @ 100 different attempts to scan my system in around 5 minutes.I feel for you Blades. It's never fun having your system broken into.
