Hands up if you're using Opera

Wow! Earlier this week a friend of mine introduced me to an alternative browser called Opera that has a whole lot of nifty features, like pop-up blocking and multiple browsing windows opening up within the same iteration of the browser window (no more 10-15 IE tabs monopolizing my taskbar!) Having just gotten used to using this browser, I wanted to see if anyone else here has been using it.

Heh. I used Opera. Until I realized some of the disadvantages.

CSS heavy sites may have some problems being shown. Heh-I figured this one out, when I was using Opera to test out some web pages I had put together.

I'll stick with IE for the time being. It's been looking stable since 5.0.

Actually, from what I understand, Internet Explorer doesn't process CSS tags properly. Opera does. Net result: Opera displays CSS heavy sites the way they should be, but people see that as wrong because IE is the de facto browser standard.

[EDIT] Oh, and about the taskbar tab monopolization IE tends to do: WinXP fixes that real nice!

LOL. Apparently up until now I've been using a crappy browser without realizing it. It's amazing how much good stuff you can find out there once you've gotten past the corp. BS. At any rate, I like Opera's way of dealing with multiple browsing windows more than XP's. I tried setting XP on the 'group program types' for a while, and it drove me crazy. The only problem I've had with Opera so far is that certain javascript windows that are /supposed/ to pop up, even when you click on the links, are apparently blocked by the popup blocking utility. Still, in my opinion, it's a heck of a lot better than IE.

In my firewall I can manually permit some websites to have popup scripts

I maintain two sites that are fairly heavy on CSS and Opera 6 runs them very well.

How the CSS is processed also depends on how much detail the author provides in the CSS properties. It's wise to be as specific as possible.

The only thing about Opera that I really don't like is the email client interface. Putting the Hotlist in a separate window was a bad idea, not to mention separate windows for Inbox, Sent Items etc., and there's no progress indicators when checking email.

Hehe. I've seen way too many sites that (cheaply) use IE-only CSS properties. (Or shortened versions of the same property, that only IE can read.) I forget which especially, though. At one point, I also went the bad path, unintentionally, when I tested some pages and they didn't work with Netscape or Opera.

I just downloaded Opera the other day and have been using it a bit. I like the multple windows within Opera feature its quite nice but I have found some problems with some sites alright.
