Guest Hunter Posted August 16, 1999 Report Posted August 16, 1999 Well, I'm pretty new to BC3000, so I guess my ships motto for a while is going to be "RTFM"

Eclipse Posted August 16, 1999 Report Posted August 16, 1999 well, for now my ships motto is as written in my sig. My ships name comes from Star Wars. The resurected Emperor orderd the construction of a new flagship, the Eclipse, it was 16KM long and had a primary armament of a superlaser 1/3 the power of the Death Star. Course I don't go around frying ppl, and blasting planets.........er at least I don't think RANDOM counts l8r,------------------ Cmdr. Antilles GCV-Eclipse "Learning is not compulsory... neither is survival."
Bad Mojo Posted August 26, 1999 Report Posted August 26, 1999 Hmmm.. Ship's name is Vae Victus. Heard it before, thought it was pretty mean so I took a shine to it. Means 'suffering to the conqoured' or close enough. got used in a video game, Legend of Kain or somesuch, they mis pronounced it though, which made it even funnier. After I ram this sucker into a few more ships I'll probably just let it lie and christen the GCV Maeror. As for a motto? umm, debatable. How about 'Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups' ? Although most people will probably say it's more like 'Whadda mean I hit YOU? YOU hit me? You were in dry dock? So? I'm telling you, it's not my fault!'*shrug*Cmdr Bad Mojo GCV Vae Victus 'I'm with the bomb squad. If you see me running, try to keep up'
Guest Aquila Posted September 21, 1999 Report Posted September 21, 1999 Hi folks!Been a while since I've been able to get here, so hello again all!Great thread! I love reading this stuff. Like going back on occasion and reading the CDR roster too Aquila is the constellation of the eagle and an Eyrie is an eagles nesting place.Think I'm going to change my motto to "The Strong Hand Uppermost!". I don't normally go looking for trouble (in RL at least ) but, I'm prepared to defend me and mine and that motto just about says it all for me.Nice to see you all again. Now back to catching up on the threads *sigh* ------------------ Cmdr. Aquila GCV Eyrie "Better to be the smite-OR than the smite-EE"
Menchise Posted September 21, 1999 Report Posted September 21, 1999 I see that a lot has happened since I last visited the site in August. Well, the GCV TerraGuardian has had a few mottos in the past. The ship was originally called the Grim Reaper, until I decided to make up something new. Terra is Latin for Earth. The new motto of the TerraGuardian is:"The blues and greens of our fair world Will never cease to shine, While the TerraGuardian takes a stand Within the firing line."Commander Menchise GCV TerraGuardian
Guest pmota Posted September 21, 1999 Report Posted September 21, 1999 Noticed that post about weird ship names. Mine isn't weird, just Portuguese: GCV Furia Selvagem Furia=rage, being extremly mad, anger Selvagem=wild, so it should mean something like GCV Wild AngerMotto: "May God have mercy of you; we won't."
Phased Posted September 22, 1999 Report Posted September 22, 1999 "Follow me if I advance, kill me if I retreat, avenge me if I die!"It ends up working like this, never retreat from combat or else we'll kill you. If you die, none of us are retreating so we'll avenge you in some way. Now that I look at it, I understand why nobody follows me into combat. Oh well, it has a nice ring to it and invokes the fearless warrior in all of us. Well, at least the enemy thinks were fearless, or stupid.------------------ Commander Phased GCV Indomitable ICQ 125478 quote:Follow me if I advance, kill me if I retreat, Avenge me if I die
Ben Zwycky Posted September 22, 1999 Report Posted September 22, 1999 Sorry I didn't say what mine means, this thread was really old when I got back from my summer holidays, so I missed the question. Svoboda is simply the czech word for freedom, and it's a really cool, flowing and distincive-sounding word, and also enables me to do my ship's logo. www.watson-jones.swinternet.co.uk/Svoboda/Svobadge2.jpg I named it that before I knew there were other ship's called freedom. (That reminds me, I should probably redo the logos in my main computer sometime, but I probably won't, knowing me.)------------------ Commander Ben Zwycky GCV Svoboda ISS Fleet http://www.watson-jones.swinternet.co.uk/Svoboda "Nakonec pravda vitezi" (in the end the truth wins)
Guest ATan0895 Posted September 22, 1999 Report Posted September 22, 1999 I don't know, with a thread this old, if anyone will read this message But, I thought I would share my thoughts on my signature elements. I am a huge fan of the novel, "A Mote In God's Eye" and its sequel, "The Gripping Hand" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. These are two of the best examples of military science fiction in the genre, especially the first novel. I named my vessel for the battle cruiser INSS MacArthur, featured in "The Mote In God's Eye" and my second quote is referring to the sequel. The first quote is a shameless rip-off from the film "Aliens". But I thought that it fit nicely with my vessel's name. ------------------ Commander Anton Carter GCV MacArthur =Wraith Fleet= "Peace through Superior Firepower" "We Are the Gripping Hand"
Guest Aquila Posted September 22, 1999 Report Posted September 22, 1999 Great books weren't they? Loved em! Read them many times ------------------ Cmdr. Aquila GCV Eyrie "The Strong Hand Uppermost!"
Guest ATan0895 Posted September 22, 1999 Report Posted September 22, 1999 You know it! I'm surprised more BC3K folks aren't familiar with it. Although its probably older than some of our compadres! But I thought, for purposes of personifying my BC3K experience, it offers a lot of inspiration. Gang, go find these books and read 'em! Sorry if I've gone off topic

Guest Commander Hamblin Posted October 27, 1999 Report Posted October 27, 1999 Hey, in case anybody likes poems, here's the poem from which I got my ships motto from:For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see, Saw the vision of the world and all the wonder that would be, Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails, Pilots of the purple twilight, dropping down with costly bales, Heard the heaven's fill with shouting, and there rain'd a ghastly dew, From the nations' airy navies grappling in the central blue, Far along the world wide whisper of the South wind rushing warm, With the standards of the people's plunging thro' the thunder-storm Till the war-drum throbb'd no longer, and the battle flags were furl'd In the parliament of Man, the Federation of the World There the common sense of most shall hold a fretful realm in awe And the kindly earth shall slumber, lapt in universal law.- Lord Alfred TennysonSo, good eh? Well, I like it, anyway.------------------ Commander Hamblin GCV Galatea Orion Fleet"For I dipped into the future, far as human eyes could see. Saw the vision of the world and all the wonder that would be..."

Rico Jansen Posted February 26, 2000 Report Posted February 26, 2000 It's been quiet here for a while. But I knew I would put mine here too once I got one. From where? Adam Thomas Posted February 26, 2000 Report Posted February 26, 2000 Just in case anyone is still reading, here we go...I was sitting here with my recently bought version of BC3000AD running, trying to think of a good name for my ship. Then I saw a present that I recieved from a friend for my birthday, sitting on my desk. The gift was a swiss army knife, but it was the word "Victorinox" that caught my eye. It seemed like the perfect ship name, just rolls off the tongue! My motto (the extended version that is) is "A small mind is a tidy mind, a small mind is easy to fill with faith".------------------ Commander Adam Thomas GCV-Victorinox "A small mind is easy to fill with faith"
