So do you think this is a step in the right direction or is this the first step on the Insurgency/EarthCom Road? [ 05-25-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]

    Minor update

Pain in the butt, hopto.org can only point to the front door of a site as it were. wraithsog.hopto.org takes you to the site just fine wraithsog.hopto.org/mission.html takes you to 404 land.

The door mat is up on my quarters http://www.crosswinds.net/~wraithsog/personal/quarters.html, more work will be completed over the next three days.

    Achtung!

I'll digest this more in the morning (been a bad day) but let me extend a welcome to the Corsair (Cmdr James Smyth) and HellHound (Cmdrs Rippen, Orthae, and Antillies) commanders. The wing site is at wraithsog.hopto.org, don't get too comfy with the content there currently. It was already under revision and will now undergo further work. More at a later date. Minor update

The S.O.G. site address has changed (content has not *yet*) to http://wraithsog.hopto.org if you have any links to the site, please update them as it'll be moving from crosswinds and the above address will always take you to the current site.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Menchise: I have a question that doesn't seem to be covered in the Fleet FAQ. Can I change to a different caste or fleet if I'm unhappy with the current one? That all depends within which context you're asking the questions. With regards to RP and the current fleet DB, it's do-able and been done but is frowned upon. With regards to BCM MP, once you start a game you are stuck until the game is over but there's no reason you can't be something different in the next game. With regards to GCO, now that's where things get very ticklish because of the persistent nature of the thing. There is a beginning of the game but there is no end (sans major catastrophic failure that is and even then who knows?). Given that it would not be unheard of for a person to change career paths midstream (GALCOM to Isolationist...I mean Insurgent comes to mind), it is conceivable that some method for doing so in GCO might evolve. In the past Derek has basically said we have to choose a career and stick to it, period, no if's and's or but's. OTOH, I have known him to be willing to comprimise or even come 180 on such no comprimise issues, all that is required is very clear, concise and very real proof that such a change is good (the SC terms this as whining ). If career path changes really are a good thing for GCO, it'll happen. If they aren't a really good thing for what the SC has in mind, it definitely won't happen. A quick note lest I set off a torrent of whining: Whining on the public forum tends to do more harm than good and is generally not a good idea. [ 05-23-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
  10. quote:Originally posted by Paddy Gregory: Ok, thanks. That answers the first part of my question. Now what about the second? If you really want to dance around with grunts carrying only: 2 x nutripak 1 x medpak 1 x pistol 1 x wristlaser 1 x die 2 x Type1 clip (see this for details of marine gear) you're more than welcome to do so. Just two questions beforehand, what color flowers do you like and who is your next of kin?
  11. quote:Originally posted by Menchise: Hmmmm...I'm curious about the Paramedic caste In a nutshell: You like to tow ships issueing an SOS and you have a tendency to make people feel better. You get shiny unarmed ships and stiff penalties are leavied by very organization/caste against their members if they shoot you.
  12. Wraith Fleet has four primary directives Uphold Galcom's Directives Provide early warning on Gammulan and Valkyrie military movements Assist the Falkyrie resistance Provide Special Forces to Galcom, Earthcom & Terran allies It also consists of six wings and two support units. Check here for further details. [ 05-22-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
  13. quote:Originally posted by aramike: I agree with Gallion. Perhaps the Insurgents should just use the one logo? I'm sure the Insurgents still take great pride in being Terran but being against any of the current Terran military organizations would understandibly want to distance themselves. quote: Edit: I have to be honest, here - I liked the old Galcom logo better - the text on the new one seems a little too "cartoony". I like the new logo better - I think, I mean that old logo is a rather dear thing - but I agree on the lettering being out of place, both on the GALCOM and EARTHCOM logos.

    Lost DNA

I couldn't find a link to the actual story, but this pretty much mirrors what I heard on the news last night. quote: Author Douglas N Adams, who wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, has died suddenly aged 49. Mr Adams died on Friday morning in Santa Barbara, California, following a heart attack, said his spokeswoman Sophie Astin. Adams's novel was turned into a BBC series The author became a household name when the cult science fiction novel was turned into a BBC TV series. Adams was born in Cambridge in 1952 and educated in Essex before returning to Cambridge to study at St John's College. His career included work as a radio and television writer and producer before his life was changed by the publication of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in 1979. Film The satirical tale chronicled the journey of alien Ford Prefect and his human companion Arthur Dent throughout the universe after the destruction of Earth. It centred around the search for an answer to life, the universe, and everything - which turned out to be 42. Arthur Dent and Slartibartfast became cult figures The novel went on to sell more than 14 million copies worldwide and was followed by the sequels The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, the Universe and Everything and So Long and Thanks For All the Fish. In recent years the author had been working on a Hitchhiker's Guide movie. There was much speculation about who would play Arthur Dent, with Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carrey, Ben Affleck and even Bruce Willis said to be in the running. Adams married Jane Belson in 1991 and had a daughter, Polly, in 1994. I just hope he has his towel. [ 05-13-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
  20. quote:Originally posted by Menchise: Exactly. So what is it about BCM that makes it impossible to run in Windows 95? You asked the wrong question. The real question is "Why is WIN95 unable to run BCM?" Only by finding out what Microsoft really fixed when they created the first commericial release of the Win95 OS (commonly known as Win98) can you really know the answer to that question. I still have a couple of Win95 machines kicking around the plant and lab due to old hardware that can't handle Win98. If I have to write any software for those machines, the first order of business is ALWAYS to upgrade the hardware so I can move them to Win98SE. Why? Win95 simply cannot reliably run software, period.

  22. quote:Originally posted by Outlaw: Is it possible to transfer my existing hardware on my other pc to the new pc I'm gonna assemble such as hard drive, cd-rom, etc? Yes. Are you running Win98? If so, make sure you create a start up diskette first as you will likely have to reinstall Win98 after you make the move. Win98 does not like to be moved from one system to a new one and simply won't boot. As long as you have the boot disk, your install CD and some time, you can get around this exciting feature in Win98. Make sure that you can boot from the diskette and access your CD-ROM BEFORE you make the hardware move. If you're running Win2000, make sure that you make a new emergency repair diskette before you begin the process. I've never done a hardware upgrade like this on a Win2000 machine so cannot give you any further insight there.
  23. Are there really nine out there? I know I've seen them all but I was under the impression that there had only been 5. Let's see if I can name or at least describe them all: Motion Picture/VGER (Love the Klingon scenes at the beginning, the rest was. . . .) Wrath of Khan (Best one of all) In Search of Spock Voyage Home/Save the Whales Final Frontier (I actually had to look this one up!) Undiscovered Country Generations First Contact Insurrection Sad, so very sad. These films..err flicks, have had so little impact on me (other than Wrath of Khan) that I had to struggle just to remember what they were about. I've also realized that whenever I run across a Voyager/DS9/TNG show on the TV, I quickly continue looking for something to watch so I am not once again swallowed whole by the disappointment that Star Trek has become. 24. quote:Originally posted by DeSylva: The solution - don't dock for repairs in the middle of a campaign. Take parts and SysEngs and get them to do it for you. More fun, IMO. Correction, don't dock for repairs AT ALL if playing ACM. Sometimes you need the lag time between missions to high tail it from point A to point B. If you take time to dock and repair, you lose that lag time.
  25. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Ah, yes, I know where I get my radiation (last time it was transporter room destroyed), but rad control units goes in CARGO BAY 2, which is destroyed. Been a long while since I had to deal with that type of issue. The other alternative is to store them in a shuttle but you can't launch shuttles due to further damage. quote: Medibay? You sure that work? It should do the trick. It won't prevent the crew from being exposed to the radiation but it should slow down the effects long enough for your cargo bay to be repaired. BTW, how did you manage to have both your cargo bay and shuttle bay destroyed? [ 05-10-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
