  1. Ok, after seeing that picture now I understand why the Akuma girl is so popular here Anwyay, happy b'day... whenever it is. How many, by the way?
  2. Heh, I'm getting a huge (relative to my humble salary, that is) return this year. I guess I should be happy, but all I can think of is that I've lended the IRS a lot of money that I could have used better. And you don't get any interest either. It sucks! Time to file a new W-4
  3. How do you know there wasn't a cloaked ship?
  4. Run it in window mode (using the /w switch) so that when it quits you can see the error message in the window. Could be a corrupt download, a bad install, etc. Make sure you read the FAQ. There are some useful tips for hardware-specific issues.
  5. Aramike: Thanks buddy. Stars don't mean anything, but kind words from an intelligent person like you certainly do.
  6. Funny! My rating used to be 5 stars, now it's dropped to 4. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I decided to freely express some of my ideas in this forum. Anyway I don't really give a damn about this rating system. The only reason I read and post here is because I love this game, so anybody feeling like removing some stars from my rating is welcome to do so. Heck I'd be proud to be the first Cmdr demoted all the way down from 5 stars to none Now back to BCM
  7. Remo. I'd love to play a telnet TW game, but I've never played TW. How can I get started? Is there any good documentation I can read? Also is there a UNIX version of the client (it'd be nice to be able of playing at work )? Thanks! [ 04-12-2001: Message edited by: Hector Socas Navarro ]
  8. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: WE WON!! End of Story!!! See what I mean? For many people it's just a game. quote: And to respond to some of the other posts, in all honesty, I would choose B. See Pioneer? And I'm afraid there are many more who think the same way. Jaguar, perhaps if you had Chinese friends (as I do) you'd see they're not evil monsters but normal people just like you and me (not that I approve their government's attitude in this conflict, though). Anyway, I'm glad to see that the US is a nation ruled by people with some common sense and intelligence who can work things out in the right manner. I wish they had done it sooner, though, before the polls starting to appear. Thanatos, of course everything has limits. I was only asking about those 2 scenarios because the answer tells you a lot about the people around you. By the way, I'm glad to hear you too value human lifes over nationalism. 9. Pioneer, I certainly hope you are right. That would mean there's still hope for our race. But some of the posts I read here are raising some doubts in my mind. Sometimes one gets the impression that war is fun and exciting
  10. No, no, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying those are the only two options in the real scenario. I'm not even saying they are realistic. I'm just curious about which one would people choose if they were left with these two only. Consider it as a "personality test"
  11. You know, I'm really curious about something. First of all let me state my (humble) opinion on this issue. I think any civilized person would agree that keeping hostages to press a foreign government to do something is ethically unacceptable, and the fact that these things still happen today is a painful reminder of how long is the way we still have ahead before mankind deserves the denomination of civilized species. I don't wanna talk about arrogance or brainwashing for the moment. I'd like to take a little survey on this forum, if you don't mind. Suppose that you are president Bush (no offense intended) and you have the magic power to see the future of the world. Suppose that you can take one of the following two alternatives, whose outcome you know beforehand: Option 1: You apologize to China. You write a letter saying something like "please, forgive us for spying on you, and accept our sincere condolences for the loss of one of your fine pilots. In return, you are welcome to come with your planes to international waters near the cost of Florida and take a peek at the fun we are having over here". The outcome of this decision is that the relations between China and the US start to improve with time, China becomes a member of the World Trade Organization and eventually embraces democracy as government system. No casualties in either side. Option 2: You refuse to apologize. The tension increses. You send a command to rescue the crew and blow up the plane. The operation is a full success. Five Chinese soldiers get killed in the action. A "terrorist" action against the US embassy results in the death of 6 US marines. Things get worse and eventually lead to ... war. It turns out that the US military is so superior that victory is soon achieved. The powerful US military wipes out China, killing 90% of the population using both nuclear and conventional warfare. There are no casualties on the American side. Zero. The remaining 10% of the Chinese population pitifully starts to rebuild their country and embrace capitalism as their political system. The brute force exhibition is so shocking that no other nation in the world would ever dare to contradict America's will. So which one would you choose? Oh, by the way, remember that old TV show, M*A*S*H? Did you like it?
  12. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: I hope the full game won't do that error, because I know some people will trow the game in the trash can seconds after That error was fixed by the SC as soon as it was discovered, so you won't find it again in future episodes or in the full game. Just keep in mind that the demos are based on beta code. Heck, Episode I wasn't even compiler-optimized.
  13. Hey Tac, that was funny But you didn't get me with the subject. Everytime I see a thread started by you in the General Discussion forum I say to myself:"Let's check that hilarious link Tac found for us today"
  14. There was a problem discovered not too long ago related to the game trying to write on an inexisting debug file. To fix it you have to add the /d1 command option. Did you remember to do this? [ 04-09-2001: Message edited by: Hector Socas Navarro ]
  15. But the demo episode I is based on the debug build, so even if you didn't mess with command line parameters you're playing the debug version.
  16. I think the BCM demo is very stable now. But you have to put a small file in your BCM directory with the station frontend or otherwise it will crash when you dock. You also have to create a shortcut with the /d1 option (search these forums for more detailed information). Unfortunately these two problems were detected after the episode I demo was released (remember BCM is still beta). But if you fix those two issues (and read the FAQ for some hardware specific settings) the demo should run for hours without a crash. ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  17. I see. I didn't remember a demo for BC3kv209. Ok, I stand corrected. ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  18. INFJ ("Inner Nuances Fosters Journeys"). Doesn't sound too good, does it? The only one here so far, it seems ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester) [This message has been edited by Hector Socas Navarro (edited 04-05-2001).]
  19. Maybe they have plenty of radiation control units ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  20. Hmmm... is there a demo for BC3kv209? Where did you get it? Anyway, if you want to download a demo, why not trying BCM instead? ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  21. AI-controlled ship boarding is currently planned as a patch after the release of the game. If it's unlikely to make it to the gold release, I'd say chances are that it will not be in any of the demo episodes. But this is all subject to change, of course. ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  22. In BCM, one of the players will be hosting the game, so the universe will be persistent as long as the host keeps running. GCO, the massively multiplayer (i.e., thousands of players) title will be hosted in dedicated servers, so its universe will be truly persistent. Hope this clears it up. ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  23. As Gallion said, ship to ship boarding was canned with the BC:TE project. However, the SC recently mentioned that he has plans to incorporate AI-controlled boarding using NPC marines in BCM but it will probably be in a patch after the game is released. ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  24. quote: floating around near the base, so I thought it might be worth it to tow it back. I was able to engage the tractor beam and tow the shuttle, but upon docking with the base, the game crashed. The SC forgot to include the graphics frontend of the starstations in the release of the demo, that's why it crashes. You need to download a small zip file with this frontend and unzip it in the BCM folder. quote: What would interest me in the single-player game is a broad storyline that encompasses a couple of sci-fi plots and also has a variety of conclusions This game is very open-ended and you are not bound to any pre-scripted plot. You can do whatever the hell you like. In any case the game will ship with a campaign mode spanning a series of missions. ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
  25. quote: What do I think? On the one hand ? droooool, I?m really enjoying a taste of what?s to come. Then again I?m think damit not again! The game is still unstable and crashes more often than it should, Remember that it's still beta code. Actually, the only known fatal crash of the game has just been found and squeezed. This is probably the one you have been experiencing, otherwise it's most likely a configuration problem in your system (check the FAQ, etc). So add the /d1 option to your shortcut, as explained in some other thread, and the game should run crash-free. We testers are having a hard time to crash it, and trust me when I tell you that it's definitely 1.e6 times more stable than the two earlier titles. quote: not to mention it seems to lose a sense of itself during heavy action (IE long after a battle is over I?m hearing explosions and receiving battle messages. If that's related to low frame-rates, you should be aware that you are playing a non-optimized debug version of the game. The release version contains heavy optimizations that will hopefully make it run faster. Also, I don't know your system specs, but BCM is not targeted for slow machines. quote: I?m a die hard fan and I own the first two so what the hell Ill probably own this one too I?m just hoping I?ll be able to actually play the game rather than gaze lustfully at it on the self. I can?t wait to see the real meat and potatoes of the game like planetary opps and first person and of course multiplier . Hang in there and you won't be disappointed. quote: Lastly I think the transporter chief on my ship is going out the airlock! If he cant figure out a way to beam my marines aboard and enemy ship when they can come on board mine his @$$ is toast! Derek has some cool plans for this, but it's probably not gonna make it in time for the release. Boarding other ships is a feature that will hopefully be implemented in a patch shortly after the game release. But again, this has been explained somewhere else. ------------------ See you out there, among the stars Cmdr Nava, GCV Nemesis (Official BC3k tester)
