The cover story in the December issue of PC-Gamer is massive online games. If you go to page 82, it's all devoted to GCO. Their description of the game is pretty cool, and you may actually learn some interesting stuff about GCO (I did).

I too have a ZX Spectrum. The good old Spectrum 48k (rubber keys, no monitor -you had to hook it up to your TV-). That was my first computer (1982). I'm not sure if it still works, though. My first PC is still running. Last time I checked my mother in law was using it to type and print letters. It's an Intel 8088 4.7 Mhz (I think), with 640kb RAM, two floppy disks (5.25") and a 20Mb Hard drive that I bought some years later. A car and a spaceship are different things (ok, I've just invented the wheel here ). When you're driving a car, the air, the ground and the transmission in the engine are generating friction which is stronger the faster you go. That's why if you stop the engine, a car slows down and eventually stops. The engine must supply power in order to compensate for these losses due to friction and maintain the current speed. This doesn't happen in a spaceship that is moving through empty (well, almost) space. If you turn off the engines the ship will continue moving in straight line at exactly the same speed, specially a big one. So, if you now turn on your engines, you start accelerating. As long as your engines are on you will keep accelerating more and more without limit (at least until you reach the relativistic limit). So in a Newtonian universe (that is, if you don't consider relativistic effects) any ship can go as fast as the pilot wishes (provided that you have enough fuel and patience). On a different issue if you accelerate too fast your crew will be crunched against their seats. Unless you come up with some idea, like this field that you mentioned that makes everything within the field to move at the same speed. So that would be like if every atom in the ship had its very own engine. Even the crew members themselves! Now that's an interesting idea, sort of an intertial field. Hmmm, I think you can import 2D pictures for your officers, pilots, etc, but I'm not sure that you can do the same with the 3D models/skins.

There's not really much difference between going in active or passive mode in BC3k v2.x. BCM does implement fog of war, so that you can no longer see clean across the region. A wise use of the active/passive radar modes will then be crucial to plan your strategies. Sorry to hear about your friend. I mean, sorry to hear that your best friend is your PC, that's so sad (just kidding). What I'd do is the following. Make a DOS boot disk and include the INTERLNK.EXE and INTERSVR.EXE files in it. Go grab a parallel cable and connect your PC to your old P233. Boot both machines with the DOS disk and start the InterLink. Copy everything you need over to your P233. Install Windows all over again. I hate politics and politicians, but I have my own ideas. Like nobody should be allowed to have guns. Education and health should be free for everyone (or at least, the government should provide the necessary support for those who can't afford it). I believe that killing people to show people that killing people is wrong is wrong (in case you didn't get it I'm against the death penalty). There should be more government control on the food that we eat. I'm against affirmative action as the solution to the racial/sexual discrimination (the problem is deeper than that, in my opinion, and its the roots of the problem that should be addressed). I believe people should be allowed to sunbath naked on the beach. I think the bread is too expensive and the coke too cheap. I don't give a damn about the price of the gas (or maybe I'd say the more expensive the better, for ecologic reasons). I guess that this kind of ideas make me more of a "lefty", correct? I don't feel like debating about it, but since you asked there you have it. As for the Bush/Gore discussion, I can't vote here in the U.S. so I won't even bother thinking about that but I'd say that you guys have a tough choice . If you want to know who I would vote in my country ... well, that seems to be another Dumb vs Dumber choice. Fortunately, it's not a 2-party system so I can always vote to one of the little guys who don't stand a single chance to win.
