BC3K did not work with my system which also had a Cirrus Logic chip. I would suggest upgrading to a 3D card as they are more affordable these days.

First off I would like to say that I did vote and cast my ballot for Bush. Being from New York my vote unfortunately will not help him get elected. The long and short of it is that whoever becomes our next president will not be able to get anything accomplished due to this fiasco. With the House and Congress being split almost 50/50 I expect that both Republicans and Democrats will not cross party lines over the next four years. The real losers in this race will be the American people and that is a shame. What ever happened to the oath that elected officials were to serve the people (ALL THE PEOPLE). That seems to be the furthest thing from the truth these days.

I have an old Tandy 1000SX (8088)which I have boxed and stored. It has 256k Ram memory with dual 5 1/4" drives and a 32mb hard card(power supply was not sufficient to run a regular hard drive) VGA graphics and two joysticks. Hows that for old!! ------------------ rgordon434

It's unfortunate that we (the US) still have not learned a lesson. Whenever there is trouble in the world we are automatically a target for terrorist groups. Although the news stated that there was no way to prevent this,I feel we must. The US military should be on higher security anytime there is trouble in the world. On the other front I also heard that the Palestinians are going to create havoc tomorrow, I hope not but we shall see. May the good people that have lost their live in these two incidents rest in peace. ------------------ rgordon434

Cmdr. Hamblin I agree varity is the spice of life. I also enjoy many other types of games and play them from time to time (Freespace, Freespace2, X Beyond the Frontier, ...)but a game that has no end or constant variables like BCM will hold my interest indefinately. It will one of those games that will always be close to my computer(that is after I've played the heck out of it). Most of the other games lose their charm after awhile offering no new challanges and become shelved. That is what I meant by looking no further for a space sim. ------------------ rgordon434

In my opinion BCM will be a benchmark for all future space sims. I have seen this in the past with successful FPS and RTS games. I personally have been waiting for a great space sim for many years and when I get a game that will be able to hold my interest like BattleCruiser then I will look no further. Future games will need to simulate real conditions more closely and have better AI than the present games on the market. ------------------ rgordon434

These issues that we all have faced at one point or another seems mute since BCM is around the corner. SC posted this statement on the GNN ============================================= BATTLECRUISER MILLENNIUM PUBLIC TEST COUNTDOWN The countdown to the first public compatibility test release of Battlecruiser Millennium is now officially underway. By September 15th, this version will be released to the public. The test, while feature complete, will not be a demo of the final product. A demo will be released only when the game goes gold and is primed for manufacturing. This ensures that the demo will be based on the actual product being released. For the official demo, we will also be setting up private multiplayer public servers as well as servers specifically setup for press reviewers. ============================================= For now just get used to the controls and before you know it you will be scraping v2.09 for BCM. I know how you feel as I too wanted v2.09 to run perfectly but I was at least able to learn the game and controls better. Awaiting the demo release... ------------------ rgordon434

Don't know what the problem could be, i have a Voodoo3 - 16 mb card running in its native mode (did not update Voodoo drivers). My original problem was due to the Intel 810 chipset which is not supported by this game. Try sending your post to tech support they responded very quickly to my email. ------------------ rgordon434

There are different executables for the program, make sure that you are using the right one. Since you have a 3DFX card you should be using bc3k (3Dfx). If that does not work download the chipset info program and have it detect your card type and add the number shown to the batch file. You may also find further information in the archives and the faq's on this site. By the way my game still crashes but I think it has to do with my mouse driver (generic scroll mouse), I have read issues in the archives regarding this issue. Good Luck ------------------ rgordon434

I have read about BCM and BC3020AD, but I am talking about marines on board other ships. SC has stated that you will not be able to control them when you transport them to another vessel in BCM. I am aware of the first person control in a future release but as I understand it is for control of marines on planets and first person mode on your own ship. I am asking if it will also include your marines on hostile vessels as this will require quite a bit more programming. ------------------ rgordon434

Play Style? Keyboard/Joystick? ; Bridgeview/Tacops?
Gordon replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in General Chatter
Oh, I have no doubt that my stick will work just will not work with force feedback. Would be great if it did though, especially when in a dogfight (like Freespace, X-BtF, ...). Nothing like a stick jolting in your hand due to recoil or weapon impact. ------------------ rgordon434 -
Are you considering control via a first person mode in the future releases ? I had played a DOS game back in the 80's that played exactly as you described in your post SC and it was just fine. Like you said you better send in some marines with a high AI if you expect to take over the enemy ship. ------------------ rgordon434

Play Style? Keyboard/Joystick? ; Bridgeview/Tacops?
Gordon replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in General Chatter
Never do, I always toggle back and forth between my Battlecruiser and whetever ship I have floating the heavens. I have relaxed a little bit since 2.09 patch as I don't follow my shuttles while on approach to the planets surface, since the crash bug has been fixed. ------------------ rgordon434 -
Just think of the possibilities of being able to transport marines onto a hostile craft. You would be able to sabotage or take over that vessel. I also like the fact that you can now recover a stolen shuttle which will save time and money when same would have to be replaced (if destroyed). ------------------ rgordon434

Play Style? Keyboard/Joystick? ; Bridgeview/Tacops?
Gordon replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in General Chatter
I use a joystick for Battlecruiser flight control, allow the AI to control my interceptors and shuttles. Tacops on occasion but not in battle. Probably would use it more if you were able to mouse click on your target in this mode. I like to view my space battles and anticipate my angle of attack, in Tacops you lose your dimensional concept. Hey Parias, I also have a force feedback stick, I asked SC if BCM was going to support force feedback and unfortunately the answer was no. ------------------ rgordon434 -
Thanks for the info Derek, that's great news ! ------------------ rgordon434

Thanks for the advice guys, I will give both a try. I usually launch all vessels (if they are manned) and take my chances in space. I did try the tractor beam at one time but was unable to get close enough to the shuttle for the tractor beam to engage. I tried to diable it but I destroyed it in the process. I still think that would be a great add to a great game. What do you think ? ------------------ rgordon434

I have a question. Does anyone know if BCM will allow transporting from ship to ship. The reason I am asking is because in version 2.09 when intruders board your ship and steal a shuttle you can do nothing about it except destroy it. I was wondering if in BCM you could send marines to take control of a stolen vessel and return it to your battlecruiser. ------------------ rgordon434

Same here, I sent a letter to Eric expressing just that. Everyone is intitled to their opinion, but it is a game review not a review of Derek. I have asked Eric to review the postings....Awaiting his response. ------------------ rgordon434

You seem to have alot of "FANS" out there Derek. Yes the game had bugs but you supported the game and that is what counts. I think it is unfair to compare this game to the games that are coming out now. There have been alot of advancements in the technology of computers and programming. Lets see what happens when BCM comes out and run the comparisons again. I find it funny that your "FANS" are trying so hard to knock you down, they'll probably be the first in line to get BCM when it goes gold. I do feel that the graphics are awesome concidering that this title was released in 1996. Keep copies of your "FANS" reviews as your incentive. ------------------ rgordon434

Problem solved !!! Upgraded to a Voodoo3 - 16mb and am now able to run version 2.09. Does anybody know if BCM is going to be able to use force feedback joysticks ??? ------------------ rgordon434

Thanks for the info, a good video card is definately the way to go. In the mean time I will use /v1 in my bat file and use the keyboard (does not recognize my joystick), and await the release of BCM ------------------ rgordon434
