Okay, after playing around a bit... I love the new format! The rating system could be kinda fun as long as nobody takes it too seriously. I too want the exploding head back.

I had practically that same message myself. I find it happens after a certain period of time with the demo. I assume it's a problem that only applies to the demo and not the full game. (I'm lovin the graemlins)

The flicker could be hardware. Have you tried plugging in a different monitor? Does the same effect happen? What sound card/drivers did you use the last time you played Jane's USAF? What version of Direct x? Sounds to me like a driver/direct x problem.

SC, I think you are totally making the right call. All decisions are yours and should be made based on what you feel is right, but I think waiting to put in solid multiplayer code is very wise. That's the logical side of me talking. I think I can speak for all of us here by saying we are all DYING for multiplayer, but only put it out when you feel it's right. ps: It looks as though the beta code is firming up real nice!

It was in a box, with the brand name "Classics" on the bottom in gold. I don't know who repackages these games but if it IS the full game, then that was an insane deal! Every now and then I am kind of astonished that the computer industry actually survives. After reading Derek's various soap box rants about the industry, sometimes I have no idea why someone would want to even want to make a computer game. Don't tell anyone, but I would have happily paid twice that much for System Shock 2. I'm starting to feel like I should just wait six months after a game has been released and scoop it up for half the price. (Of course I'll be camped out in front of my local EB the day BCM ships. Some games you don't wait for.)

If you're talking Sarah Furgeson 2, I don't know, that's a hard one. If they've cloned her, I may have to go with Sarah. I'm a sucker for redheads, and her British accent is, well... kinda sexy.

I just bought System Shock 2 for $9.99 cnd. (That's probably around $4.75 am) I thought it was too good to be true. If I only get to play four missions or something, I'll be mighty ticked off!

I think if you go to the Beta Version control page it should answer alot of your questions. There's a section on what aspects of the game are still a work in progress, and what changes have been made. This version control gives info on what the beta testers are playing, (or will be playing soon) so it should give you a pretty accurate reflection on the final game. http://www.3000ad.com/files/bcmver.html

Soback I have a Voodoo 3, and that's the driver version I have too (x.xx.xx.0666). I'm using version 1.07 and generally everything runs fine. I wouldn't bother worrying, 3dfx is out of business, there will be no more driver releases, there is no way to get the 1.06 driver. Relax and enjoy. I thought I might try getting a console again, until I spent a weekend with a playstation at a friends place. Reasons why they suck; Control pad No in game saves Television resolution sucks I want the X-Box to do well because I think it will help the PC. Any game made for the X-Box will be easy to port over to the PC and Vica Versa. This can only be good for the PC. But you will have to pry my mouse and keyboard from my cold dead hands.

Well ShoHashi, now I have a reason to put out 30 bucks for the game. How was the game, was it fun?

The models look amazing!!! Major improvement. I love the contrail effect for the missles! It really looks great. Out of curiosity, is that effect going to be used on anything else, or by telling me, would you be in violation of the NDA? (It's a really great effect!)

What I was trying to get across in my post was that people are going to make a million suggestions about the demo but it's the game we all really want. Now that I re- read my post it may sound a little abrupt, but it wasn't meant to be. I know what the demo is based on. I know that the VTF is for the beta testers. I know you have your internal version. What I was trying to get across is that... I'm really excited about this GAME! And no matter how excited I am, no matter how much I would love you to release it tomorrow, don't listen to me! Do whatever you need to do. Take as long as you have to. Everyone here, we'll survive. I liked the demo, but I want the full game. At this point, I'd like to know that work is still going full steam ahead on the full game. I check the version control file daily to see if the terrain engine has been installed yet. I honestly don't give a damn about how solid the demo becomes. I wan't the full game to have solid code. The thing about this game is that the game play is deeper than the average game. That's what I want, and NO demo of this game is going to give me the full experience. I say learn what you can that's useful about the demo experience. Find a way to get that z-buffer thing figured out. (I'm a Voodoo chile so it doesn't really affect me) Get the new terrain in there, multiplayer, get all that solid and then worry about getting the demo rock solid. It's going to be all good, but the wait is killing me.

Well this has been a very interesting thread! One of the things I really enjoyed about it is that it has made me realize how much I really appreciate my country and the way we do things here. I don't really know much about living in America, but I do know that it is very different from living here. One of the differences is that here in Canada we have what are called equalization payments. It's a payment all the wealthy provinces make to the federal government that is then equally distributed to the provinces that are not as wealthy. It could be considered analogous to a kind of welfare program if you will, but on a national level. These payments usually end up going to some of the eastern Canadian provinces to help pay for anything from schools to roads to healthcare, whatever is needed. Some of the eastern provinces were hit very hard when the cod stocks disappeared. Men and women who had spent their lives in the fishing industry (and whose parents and grandparents as well) suddenly found themselves out of work because thanks to over fishing from European and yes American fishermen, the cod stocks vanished. They may never ever come back to their former levels. Hard working men and women found themselves out of work and because of a lack of diversification in the region, found themselves without the possibility of ever getting work. Not because they didn't want to, they couldn't. While the rest of the country experienced a boom in industry, they did not. I don't know anything about the States, but I find it hard to believe that there aren't some places that have struggled with chronic unemployment. Places where people desperately want work but can't get it. Now some blamed the government, but the government can't be responsible for creating industry. They can't force corporations to set up plants in one area or another. Some of the provinces are now working hard on development and it's working, but it will take time before all those who had jobs will have them again. In the mean time, the government pays out welfare, and gives incentives to go back to school, and tries to lure industry with tax breaks and does what it can to help maintain the quality of life of the people of the region. No one knows when things will get back to normal, but no one is judgemental about how long someone is on welfare, or whether or not the person is really looking for work or not. I like that. I like the fact that my government does that. It is a part of the reason why in this country we have a highly educated work force, with a high literacy rate, and a very low crime rate and a standard of living that was voted the best in the world by the UN three years in a row. And as far as healthcare is concerned I actually know quite a bit about the system here, not only because my Mother spent her life working in it, but also because it has literally saved my life, and the lives of people very close to me. I have a friend with leukemia. Not only did he receive immediate care, but he was fortunate enough to be treated by doctors who are at the top of their field. I know for a fact that he couldn't have survived these past seven years without there expertise and their willingness to try out non traditional methods of treatment. Because of them, he has been a part of my life longer than he would have without that treatment. My wife's best friend has Chrone's disease, and when she needed very expensive tests they gave it to her. Immediately. She didn't have to shop around for the best HMO, she didn't have to worry about someone wealthier than her getting better care because they could afford it. Both the wealthy and the not so wealthy get the same care. Period. And I have to be honest, it makes me sick to my stomach that a 'coin toss' could be made about someone's life, someone who means so much to me and my wife. She's a person, a human being, not a number on a bottom line. I'm sure that if we looked we could find people in both countries who have been let down by the health industry. I can't speak for them. I can really only speak of my own experience and those of the people I know. And from what I've heard and seen, the deeper problems in healthcare today have less to do with the private/public debate and more to do with management issues that cross boarders and are very complex and have no easy answers. You're a proud american. That's great. And I hope your president does well. Jag I thought that speech was hilarious, but I would add that he was elected by a minority of the people, and I'm sure that if he wants to get elected again, he's going to have to keep that in mind. (I like his hiring practices so far. Nothing against Cheney, but personally I thing Powell would have made an awesome vice president! He Rocks!) I love Canada. I'm a proud Canadian. Always have been, always will be. Sure we have problems here, but nothing that we can't work out in a peaceful and orderly fashion with compassion and understanding.
