quote:And with my renewed commitment to streamlining GBS-II for BCM, there are going to be a lot more cool missions for BCM I would be interested to know why you have committed yourself to developing GBS-2 especially when you are committed to doing so much already? To commit time, money and effort to something to with no monetary reward is true dedication Just goes to show not everyone is driven by monetary rewards alone Will GBS-2 ship with BCM or will it be another of your famous free addons for download? I for one can't wait it may improve my scripting ------------------ Commander Pugwash IVC The Black Pig, Sygan Starstation (Sygan) Balor Fleet External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millennium ICQ 111523790

The Complete Idiot's Guide to GBS Scripting
Pugwash replied to Gallion's topic in Battlecruiser Millennium
I found that you could script amazing amounts of hostiles at a player ie 4 super carriers launching 4 waves of 4 fighters each and a space station launching multiple carriers, cruisers, and, fighters on top of that the ai launches assets from the any hostile that is launch capable my BC had a TA and titanium V it took me nearly 2 hours to mop up all the hostiles if I hadn't of packed the shuttles with spares before the on slaught the ship would of fallen apart I use an old PII 350 for GBS and BC3K and am supprised at how little slow down I've had the syntax error I had was an extra comma in the [ai] blocks id command, because every time I used the command the comma was there I didn't see the error and it drove me mad trying to find it. I wanted to keep to very long missions with sub sections that had tight time restraints so as to prevent commanders using the docking "cheat" for repairs and R&R. the trouble is that whenever you make a fix to the script you have to start again, at least with multi missions/tods you can phrase each one and playtest it on it own. Just up load your script to a web account and post the link in this GBS forum like Gallion and I have. You dont even have to make a web page although I did a plain text one. You could always pay in trade goods ie if the mission is a sucess then create a cargo pod with some goodies in for the bc to collect. The Complete Idiot's Guide to GBS Scripting
Pugwash replied to Gallion's topic in Battlecruiser Millennium
More fresh meat! we may get a big selections of script to play I was a bit ambitious with my first script it had a small syntax error that made the game crash randomly, it took about 8 weeks and many many rewrites all with the same extra comma before I spotted my mistake, even now when I look at the script I think of beter ways of doing it. If you havent done it yet follow Gallion's advice and print out all those files I have nearly 3 full A4 binders of print outs and notes and still end up opening up the original docs to check things out. Yep You know that in a film, book ,TV if they have an unarmed transport they will be the first to get it when trouble starts abit like the old red shirts in Star Trek. The armed transports arn't that great but then there not cruisers but at least they can out run most of the realy big ships and I hope that PTA is still as good got a server error when I posted this so if its a double post please delete one

I can confirm what Tyrn is saying I've been experiencing exactly the same since the week end. I end up counting the posts and hitting refresh in some cases several times before I can see all the posts. the reason I suggested trying the unsupported windows version is that it will use your resource in a different way and may solve the problem. Have a read of the following thread http://www.3000ad.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000473.html print it out if useful and follow the steps described although your problem is not the game crashing due to memory these posts will tell you the settings you require Also read the thread http://www.3000ad.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000560.html especially what SpacePhish has to say it sounds like this is the issue you are experiencing. The search function is very powerful and on initial searches I normally use one word searches and depending on the results redefine. Hope the links work this time ------------------ Commander Pugwash IVC The Black Pig Sygan Starstation (Sygan) Balor Fleet External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millennium ICQ 111523790 [This message has been edited by Pugwash (edited 03-20-2001).]

If you download and use the unsupported bc3k209win.zip file and copy/unzip them to your Bc3kad installed directory you will be able to play both the dos version and windows version (I think from the same saved game files) it is not a patch as such but a replacement with a different name so will not over wright the original exe file, it uses the windows sound drvs with software rendering. You will not need to uninstall just unzip the new files . added unsupported to BC3k209WIN ------------------ Commander Pugwash IVC The Black Pig Sygan Starstation (Sygan) Balor Fleet External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millennium ICQ 111523790 [This message has been edited by Pugwash (edited 03-20-2001).]

As Balor Fleet primary role is that of support I should really be commanding a transport preferably armed so I'd choose a Canlon or Generis . But I also assume that we rely on our own assets to protect our transports in hostile situations rather that our other fleets assets, if this is true then I'd choose a BCMK3 with the assignment of convoy protection If you decide that these assets are not available I'm quite happy to be commanding LRT-10 as long as I have escort when necessary. I'll link my profile to a photo as soon as the batteries have charged CYA ------------------ Commander Pugwash IVC The Black Pig Sygan Starstation (Sygan) Balor Fleet External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millennium ICQ 111523790

Daggon I play BC3K 209 on a lower spec machine than you and I will admit that on occasions for no apparent reasons I do get a sudden slow down which I can not explain these normally disappeared after a few minutes but I can also have dogfights with more than 60 objects (missiles, carriers, cruisers, fighters) all in one region with only a small amount of slow down.. Before you give up try the unsupported windows patch for 209 (BC3k209win.zip) I know its still available at ftp://ftp.zdnet.com/gs/strategy/battlecr/bc3k209win.zip it seem to work ok under 98SE DX8 but I've not used it much when I play dos games I play them on an older machine with full dos support for all hardware. edited to hilight unsupported quote: From BC3K209WIN.txt file "This is program is unsupported and is not a patch to the DOS version. Use at your own risk." Just trying to sort out my signature I've read the posts looked at others sigs Balor Fleet seem not to be using a motto (do we have one?) surly we are proud to be in Balor Fleet and doing our essential support duties? I've added the Beta tester bit because technically I'm on the beta team, I feel it is a bit presumptuous of me to use it as I have done no beta testing, coming so late to the beta team I will be doing little game testing I'll be developing GBS-2 Scripts and don't want to detract from marvelous job all the Beta team members have done. I noticed last night there was another topic which I replied to but cannot see it now has it been removed? I also noticed some oddities on two other forum pages one has cleared up now? I've used playmods but found that after a few more hours play I seemed to get a currupted game problems saving problems loading, BC in auto but not going to destination, may have had some other problem hardware or something but it did not seem to happen when I did not cheat so I gave up on playmods. anyone else had probs best thing about playmods in free flight give yourself all the alien artifacts and crew max ai and jump from one side of the galaxy to the other in one no need for spares, meds, iod, random device a real killer if you get in a situation you can't handle jump out. not that you can get into a situation you can't handle in a BC you will when we go online now that a big target I've just painted on my back I'd just stick to 200,306 even in earthz that 216000000 creds in one shuttle run quick easy and no evidence left behind
-
Now if you don't enjoy the trading side of the game why not just use a Hex editor on the saved game file and give yourself those creds and while your at it medals and exp point and have fleet command I wont tell you the addresses dont ask for those who dont know how to do it just do some research doubt there anything on this site its simple enough. Now thats realy is cheating and the wrong topic again
-
Yes I totally agree you can soon have enough money not to worry any more, but a new commander who has spent his dosh on ship upgrades and / or repair or has a badly damaged ship lost cargo equip etc may need every credit they can lay their hands on Yes you can always start again yes their are safe trade routes no route is totally safe ag actors will appear randomly yes you can always run away from hostiles auto pilot tends to outrun most if not all if you ship is intact if running to jump gates after the jump has activated switch off auto pilot hit the AB's you will accelerate to the gate more quickly doing 2000+ instead of 500 and you will be less susceptible to damage, reengage the auto when close to the gate . I personally try not to exploit the game, I will only visit debris fields once if at all, only do cargo runs until I have the minimum amount of credits to go exploring (1000 iridium 5000 each plutonium/radine) try not to use stations for repairs try to capture hostile capital ships rather then destroy depends on how close a friendly/ neutral station is to tow ship to, try not to use the dock repair "cheat" to reduce fatigue factors I'm not saying I never use them but once you have play the game for a few hours you will soon see that you don't need them and in my book your really CHEATING if you do, the only one your cheating is yourself. I know its only a game a very good game at that and it can be played in many different ways I like to play in ultra realist mode which means I have to impose restrictions on myself. moving off topic so i'll bring it back all Hazards debris fields in BC3K have an asteroid probability of 100 and may have mines or cargopods or both max mine prob=15 max cargo prob=15 If you are going to use the cargo respawn then you can start in Earthz if you keep loosing shuttles to mines (not exp myself) then try Moonz or marsz (no mines)you still have genesis or starpath to dock at dont know which has best prices I would have to look up tec level etc but as your picking up freebies it dont matter. you 'll soon have plenty of creds to do what you want [This message has been edited by Pugwash (edited 03-13-2001).]

quote: Also, one last thing, DO NOT FORGET TO EJECT ILLEGAL MATERIAL if you plan on docking with a legal starstation. I make the error very often. Damn violations dont eject Ilegal cargo just stick it in a shuttle and launch the shuttle before you dock. dont remember who posted that first but read it long ago when I first got the game. you could also use this shuttle to tow the bc to save even more money (thats been posted again in the last few days)

Many thanks SC details on the way. Back to the script spent yesterday and this morning playing through the script system time now 22.41 (5hr 41mins game time) Only had one crash out. this crash could be reproduced time and again on reloading game has something to do with the auto pilot at one point in the game when I gave the order to flyto or attack an enemy spacestation not sure which one it was but it was in Gammulan zone when I hit the "A" key the game crashes same if the autopilot was already on not sure what caused script or something else? but solution was to fly manualy not a problem as I had taken out the ods and was only 400 klicks away. I did notice during playing that time was extremely short inparticularly capturing Spectre and later in the when capturing the space stations in Grammulan zone if I had not ignored the commands from the script and just kept clearing the way ahead I would not have had enough time. If the feed back is that this is a major prob then I will increase the time The convoy was jumped on twice by ag actors and I lost the Encounter and Shropshire, Covington was badly damaged and returned to base. All other craft made it to cygni where a major snafu in the script cygni had not been captured but was emiting sos so I could capture it Ardent would not dock just sat there with RTB order The rest of the script would not fire I'll work on this and paste a replacement script when done those of you who have downloaded the script have 2 choices wait for the fixed one or play as is and see if you can get to cygni. cya Machine I'm playtesting this script on is PII 350 256Mbram SBAWE32 8M 3dcard Frame rates do drop during some of the combats but not unacceptably. slower machines may have problems Update the file again (last time I hope) Bit of a bad day today trashed one system and upset another just when I wanted to do the some homework on the Beta teams file is at http://www.cmdrpugwash.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk edit navigate from the home page to downloads for the file I just edited the link as the file name has changed when I spell checked it and re-phrased. Whats the best tactick for thaking numerous hostiles
Pugwash replied to Pugwash's topic in General Discussions
I use that method of circling while waiting for jump engine to recharge. pta at 60-80 depending on fire rate I want and watching the CVD for angel of attack closing speed if hostile is directly infront closing speed 4000+ distance 4 angle of attack head on then hit the retro's to get more shots in and risk other hostiles bouncing off you hull or veer off sharply and go round again iod set 30-60 and every now and then make a head on or rear on attack untill iod is drained prob with this type of attack when there are many hostile and many missiles is to maintain speed you cannot afford to match speed with enemy and pelt the from behind or they just keep bouncing off the hull and you get too many missile hits I tend not to use the ECM as it becomes more difficult to see whats happening once you jump your out of range of the missiles after the hostiles run short of missiles things get easy try you method on my script (GBS forum) at Pixan it took me 45 mins to take out the hostiles and only in the last 5 to 10 mins did it become easy. one other thing use a joystick with a hat and 4 buttons so that you can can roll the bc to get better fire resolution alt J for tatget mode and you can zip throught the targets and still keep your other hand on the keyboard for the AB and RR unless you have a throttle [This message has been edited by Pugwash (edited 03-10-2001).] -
This might not be the best tactic it seems to work faily well for me and I'm wondering if anyone has a better tactic you have between 30 and 40 hostiles (carriers, supercruisers, cruiser and fighters)attacking you 25 + missiles in space tracking you (cvd target seems to be limited to 25 targets but if you step through them with the full stop key you can get many more?) Tactic set your jump target to a distant point (work best if you have max engin upgrade Numega and full power to engine) autopilot disengaged wait untill the hostiles are swarming round you, keep the afterburners on you must keep your speed up while turning never fly in a straight line for to long you will just get headbutted (those dam starcarriers) hit the auto pilot when jump engines are fully charged (you also have to wait until the hostiles jump engines have charged) before you reach your destinatin select a new jump target switch off auto pilot hit the afterburners as you approach destination and veer off sharply from flight path pick off the largest ship for max exps repeat the effect your exploiting the jump weakness in the game where objects junp on top of each other and damage each other anyone got something better

right I've had some feed back already the first problem reported was that it seemed to be pure luck if your convoy left earthz intact well I have to admit it was I spent an age trying to prevent con1-con6 (Brazen - Garland) from destroying each other when they jumped the sugested solution was to stagger the convoy start. I dont know why I didnt think of that? (now implemented tried the run to jupiter 4 times and didnt loose a ship) the second problem was the convoy keeps RTB This is not a problem its a just a case of doing the right thing. I should have had the Fleet commander broadcasting something like "Disable not Destroy Commander" to give players a clue. hint DO NOT DESTROY ODS OR SPACESTATIONS ODS are the worst because you must beat the Ardent to them and very carefully disable not destroy the ODS jump in an Intercepter and do if if you like. I had between script 3 and 4 addressed this issue and then removed the solution. most of the script for the solution had been left in (!haltorder and !startorder) I've uploaded a slightly easier version of the script at the site with the hint. Both versions are still available at http://www.cmdrpugwash.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk the latter has the correction for the convoy start as well. A suggestion I would make is save the game once a zone change Played again earlier but kept getting beat up at Pixan Has anyone spotted the TA shield and been able to get it yet I hope I've covered every angle except the obvious I nearly posted the answer then CYA The trouble with playtesting yourself is trying all possible variations. I spotted another slight error in the script when warning messages are not broadcast this does not effect the game play but player will be left unsure of what has happened and why their BC is now crippled. If your lucky enough to have saved the game before you entered that region the load it backup and try another approach . The post from aramike just got me thinking maybe I should post this as a new topic? but anyway here goes. What is acceptable conduct today? Not particularly on this forum, but in society in general There will always be cultural differences between us not just UK USA or even between States but with the Internet being global the will be vast differences between users. The UK is seen by many countries in Europe (and many people in the UK) as being behind the times on matters of sex Being someone over the age of consent but without any children (4 nieces 1 nephew) I will have different view to someone with children especially young children Most things are advertise using sex to sell their products nowdays wether its cars, food, holidays,DIY,dog food you name it Its still very one sided but in today PC (politically correct) society things are a bit more even I think it must be 15 years or so since Nick Kershaw stripped of in the launderette advertising Levi or was it soap I can't remember now but the image still remains. In the UK we have had 20ft billboard with naked women on them, or super models in wonder bras and the caption "hello Boys" which have reportedly caused road accidents. Even when you buy some tabloid newspapers you have a topless page 3 girl. One paper in particular that is owned by a guy who made his money from glossy magazines is certainly not fit for children to read but as far as I know has no has no sales restrictions on it. Over the last few years we in the UK have the "Lad" culture with magazines aimed at the 18-30 year old male and what he "wants" followed by the "Laddetts" with young women trying to out do the men in the worst possible way. The computer industry in particular is a very male dominated industry and primarily a certain age group of men. just read the magazines especially the games mags and the stereotypes they reenforce. I read somewhere recently that the target group for these mags was 24-30some can't remember the exact figures When you read the UK version of PC gamer (I do like the humour in it Red Dwarf is to my tast and if you know the cartoon Captain Pugwash the Blackpig Mr Bates the cabin boy and the deck hand Mr stains you ll know where I'm coming from) you can quit understand it some of the language and imagery is not suitable for children certainly while I've been reading it the have been letters from parents objecting to the content. In last months issue they had an article on how women/girls/females where treated on the net (particularly game sites I think can't reread it I've given it away). The way in which the article was written and the edited extracts from the chat room,it took me milliseconds to work out what words were actually said (not very pleasant) but who would stop their children from buying a games mag? We can not protect the children today as we would like but that should not stop us from trying to do so. rant over
-
3 seconds that a little faster that I would get as a norm but as most tonight are about 25 sec and some well overthat, post are taking an age didn't time the lastone but was well over 2 mins at 1.30am UK time would have thought it was quiet at this end maybe its all those download manager software people are using to get the demos and like when its free phone calls

Sorry about that I wasn't thinking got carried away

Is it me , my ISP, newbies hogging the site (oops I one of the newbies even if Ive been playing for years) or what but it taking up 40 sec to load pages? Maybe Ive to much time on my hand after completing that GBS script? Im reading all those threads Ive missed over the last few weeks and its taking an age. Ive even conected with 2 pc (2 phone lines one cable one BT) to brows faster but I keep viewing the same topic on bothe pc dumb or what.

no the Euro Fighter best LOL made in sections all over Europe (bit like an airbus) vastly over budget European Gov not wanting to buy it, cutting edge tech that dont quit work yet this must be the best. In anycase the French (I was going to say frog but didnt want to upset anyone oops I have) are involved so its a winner
