No, you CAN hyperspace THROUGH a planet because so to say, in hyperspace, matter doesn't matter. What I am saying is if your exit portal is close to the planets gravitaional pull, you will exit hyperspace and then enter atmosphere. If it's not, then you will exit and continue in space. So if you enter hyperspace and it takes you THROUGH a planet, and you see your ship flying through a planet, you will not enter the atmosphere unless you exit out of hyperspace near the planets pull. That's why you can exit the station, hyperspace to some flux gate and go through the planet and not enter it's atmosphere, but if you hyperjump to some station or obect that is close to a planet, and come out of hyperspace near the planet there's a chance that you will be too close and enter atmosphere. Anything that is not understood ask. I will try to explain more. [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]

It's "read the fine manual" and if your memory is a piece... then just open it up and read it again.

LOL, have you any idea what DYNAMIC UNIVERSE really is? IW2 universe is not even close to being dynamic. They can claim it is, but how many games claim they have the smartest and unpredictable AI. Don't even compare BCM to other space sims, BCM AI is trully dynamic that's why it takes a lot of resources to run it. Every single dot on your radar must decide what it will do on depending on the situation, and that's only what you see, what about the regions you don't see, you know how much things are going on there? You have no idea.
-
The reason for making them is that you can actually exlore space without getting constantly attacked. If you are of one race, but playing an explorer or colonizer then you can go into enemy territory without worrying so much about being blown to bits and have time to visit a planet and it's scenery without the "WARNING, ACUIRED" sound. Also, when mulitplayer comes out, you can be a trader and resuply the ships in combat that don't have huge cargo areas to carry all their spare parts and equipment, and when BCO comes then you will see even more things happening to those races you claim have no use in BCM. So yes, they do have a use in BCM, you just have to realize it instead of thinking that it's another one of those launch/kill enemy/back to base game.

I think item assignment will come in some later updates. For now the items that you can assign are fixed.

Look, if you are comming out of hyperjump close to a planet you will be pulled into it's atmosphere. It's as simple as that. If you are in hyperjump and it takes you close to the planet or through it but your exit from hyperjump is farther then the gravitational pull of the planet you will not be pulled in. There's nothing more to it.

I believe I might have found something interesting, it might also be linked to people seeing the fireworks on their screens after being damaged then fully repaired and still showing damage FX. I was badly damaged, almoust every system. So I started repairing. First I repaired all of the systems listed in "CVD" under "SSR". Then continued with the rest. Here's a possible bug. The "SSR' screen in the "CVD" still showed all of the systems as being damaged (red). The systems are at 100% and working properly, and the color changed in "SSR" only when you are repairing (blue) but then it just goes back to being red. So even when your ship is fully repaired the SSR will still show the systems which were destroyed or badly damaged as being destroyed or badly damaged. So maybe the SSR screen doesn't update properly and causes the computer to think that your ship is badly damaged and plays the damage FX. I got screenshots and a saved game if you want it SC, so if you want you can either try it out yourself or try my saved game, just post if you want it.

Find out if your video card drivers support DX 8. What sound card do you have? And download Windows media player 7.1. Also make sure that ALL (besides explorer and systray) of the programs running in the background are turned off. The game is very intense on resources, so since you start off running slow it just sounds like you don't have too much resources to spare. [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]

I need to think about this very carefully...

One down. -
LOL. "Tech support" "My system got wiped, and I can't find anywhere in the manual on how to fix this problem. Is this a bug?"

The weight has nothing to do in space, mass does, and acceleration. Even if a shuttle is small but has a whole lot of thrust, towing a more massive object, he will accelerate slower but then can shut off it's engine and make small course corrections when needed. So running out of juice faster when towing a bigger ship, not necessarily true, but if you hyperjump a lot then yeah. [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]

That is covered in another thread. I think it's "miscelaneous issues II" and also "persistent tranporter/damage FX" in "general" thread "under tech support" [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]

Transporter Problem Please help (resolved)
Soback replied to jbarrek27's topic in Battlecruiser Series
You don't like explanation from SC. Choose one of this. 1. The suit is designed to protect you from solar radiation out in space. So if you beam down on earth it starts melting for the reason of coming in contact with the atmosphere and disolves the person inside of it. 2. It is pressurized because the space is a vacuum. So it's sensors sense that something weird is going on when they beam down to the planet, overpressurize the suit and the person implodes and then the suit explodes. 3. The most rational explanation. You brought up the person in a scuba gear. Would you send an underwater equipped nave seal team to fight a battle on earth? "Oh, look, a person in scuba gear is climing out on this nice beach, he is taking his harpoon and comming right at me, Heeeeelp." No, that would be silly. So don't send a space equipped marine, in a space suit that is not designed for battles on land into the atmosphere of the planet. He has no use there. -
Try www.upgradesource.com It's not a discount site, but they have the best brands.

So reading the manual is such an oddity that instead of cranking it up and getting their answer the easy way, they actually log online, post and then sit and wait for the answer. LOL, I just can't stop laughing.
-
LOL, this is way too funny. I know exactly why people don't read the manual. All the games out on the market are like this, if you played one starcraft type game, you can play red alert, and other build/gather resources/attack type games without even opening up a manual, if you play one RPG game, you can play others without reading the manual. But BCM is actually different, you can tell because people have no idea from other games how to do this or that, just because you can't do any of this stuff in other games.

Wait for BCO.

This are some of the anomalies that are in the demos. They are just anomalies/bugs, whatever you want to call them, nothing more, and they don't appear in the game. Turrets go where they are supposed to go, same goes for the buildings. [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]

LOL, yeah, that's the point. If you choose N then you are not going to planetfall. If you want to hyperjump to the planet just choose, "FLY TO" and choose the planet you want to fly to instead of targeting a planet and pressing "SHIFT-9" yourself.

Don't worry about multiplayer. Go take a vacation and time off first. We will still be here when you get back, and try not to burn the forum down.

Which memory type do I choose? In the memory window there are about 15 types. I have win98 by the way.

Here we go. Works fine now. Redownloaded the second time, overwrited the old files. Worked like a charm. Thanks SC.

Same here, those files crash my save game in the load screen and crashes the new game when you click on the empty tab for the "NEW GAME" screen.
