What a Find! (Bargain Bin Treasures)
Soback replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
Whatever you buy in used games make sure you don't buy something that is multiplayer like Diablo 2 or 1 that is used, they require you to punch in a code when you install the game and if the previous owner copied the game and is playing it online, then you will not be able to. Just be carefull. -
That was informative. On the very bottom of the page "Work in Progress" part, was the only place where I found anything about CTAS, and it still didn't say anything about it being in the final release. So, will the things mentioned above be in the final release or will they be added later on in patches. (CTAS, ship to ship boarding etc.) Would be nice if SC could answer this since he knows the most about this. Thanks.

I was wondering what features are going to be in the final game release. I read through the BC:M product info and these are some of the things mentioned. ┬À New features including: Component Target Acquisition System, CTAS, AI controlled ship-to-ship boarding, Dimension Jumps, player to NPC (and vice versa) comms, radar Fog of war, planetary orbit capability, surface to orbit target acquisition, NPC formation flying etc The reason I bring this up is, I was reading some of the thread in the demo and it sounds like a few of these features have changed, for example the fog of war on the radar will not be implemented, or so I heard. I have questions about the CTAS(component target acquisition system), ship to ship boarding, and comms, if these features will still be implemented or have they been changed. Also, I am not posting this in the demo thread because it's more about the final game release and also the demo thread is more about opinions and tech stuff.

I have a voodoo 3. Updated to the 1.7 drives and under the driver version it reads 4.12.01.0666 is this the correct drives or whats going on? If someone else has a voodoo3 card and 1.7 update, could you please check what it reads under your driver version. The reason I am asking is because before it read 4.12.01.1268 and now it looks like I downgraded the drives instead of upgraded them.

To answer Chillums question about ramming. It is feasible in a sence, but not at all practical. If I am correct, your shields only protect you from weapons and not collisions, althought ramming will most likely damage or destroy the other ship, it would also mean damaging your ship if not destroying it. Also remember, repairs are REAL time.

From what I have heard the game is a lot like Fallout Tactics. I haven't actually played or seen the game in action. So, my recomendation is just wait 2 months and then check again.

Steel Rockhard ENOUGH about the code already, jeez, just play and enjoy, or not, whatever, stop posting about if its the demo or the beta or whatever the #%*@ it is. Don't mean it as an insult but this post is already 2 pages long and most of it is just same thing over and OVER again.

Hey, something have just occurred to me. The realistic flight dynamics are not needed in BC:M and thanks to Derek for standing strong and not changing the game for every whim of his fans. Imagine having the directional thrusters of your ship being damaged, or something else that controls the speed or directional change of your ship, since repairs are made in real life time, imagine having to defend yourself while your ship is pulling to the right all the time and while your throttle is stuck in reverse and it will take 2 hours to replace the damaged component, or having that massive battlecruiser be cloaked, move in next to the station right before decloaking and attacking it, and have it smash into the station because you didn't decrase the throttle and account for inertia. THANK YOU DEREK for standing firm and for knowing whats good for your game. Forget the noncence about the interface, it's wonderful, the music rocks, literally, the gameplay, can't say much there, it's the best not even comparable to anything else because there's nothing to compare it to. Just finish the game, make it bug free, and release it. Obviously there's such a thing as too much good stuff and BC:M is just right.

The game is cool, to put it in perspective it's the BEST. I like the interface, the graphics and all else, just want to know more about the flight dynamics, if there will be 3 different flight models, then in the most advanced, or any one of them will it feel like the ship skids/slips as it turns, another words, will it feel like the ship is on rails or free floating? That's the only question/coment I have. [This message has been edited by Soback (edited 03-19-2001).] [This message has been edited by Soback (edited 03-19-2001).]

I have to agree with Hector Socas Navarro and partly with Korivak, with the completly correct flight physics it will be too hard to dogfight in space, consider the direction changes. But I also think that there should be a middle ground, not have a ship behave like space is a buble around it and it's the space that rotates around the ship. I very much liked the flight physics of Independence War, maybe something similar to that can be incorporated here.
-
I just visited the Independence War 2 forums and their forums look exactly the same as this forums, exactly the same formats, the only thing that is different is the color. Strange.

Thanks Charles Lindsey, u made it all clear. See, I didn't know that that was the final soundtrack. By the way Jaguar, I do the same thing. That music is so captivating, just want to listen to it again and again.

Sound designing, no, all I can do is give a couple of advices on how I think to improve something, but we are all different, and have different opinions, what I might like doesn't mean that everyone will. In short, it's Dereks game and if he likes the sound, then thats it. Lets finish this thread. [This message has been edited by Soback (edited 03-10-2001).]

I think that he is just stressed, with the game coming out soon and all the last moment wrap ups. -
That's just wrong. I am glad that Derek is working hard though, ( means that the police won't have to patrol around his house ) JOKE.
-
Don't get me wrong, that music is great, I was just thinking to get a little more play between the notes towards the end.
-
Thanks for your help, and as I understand that RPG will take on a more physical nature once the Battlecruiser Millennium gets released, meaning that different races and castes can actually battle it out and fight for territory.
-
The theme song for the Battlecruiser Millennium is very good, gets the heart pumping, sounds deep and mysterious with a pinch of excitement. I have a little suggestion though, during the last minute, when there is some change in the rhythm going, maybe there should be a little more play with the change in notes in the guitar, make it a little more turbulent so to say, right where the two different rhythms change, every 7 seconds or so.

Got a question, this might not be the place for it, but what the heck, If I join some group in RPG forum, I read about it and it says that you can be pretty much whoever you want, except for the fleet commander(that position is taken) if I want to be a guy who delivers supplies to the frontline ships, like components, food, and other stuff to support them, what do I choose for my character? Like caste, ship and all that.
-
LOL, a shuttle towing a battlecruiser, I can imagine the look on the face of whoever would see that one.

Westwood is struck in the face with a brick of originality!
Soback replied to Parias's topic in General Chatter
All I want to say is "I just can't wait untill I can get my hands on Battlecruiser Millennium" I don't even want to think about anything else, why look at some other game that has only a smidge of something that will be offered in BCM. -
I would say if you are getting killed, then retreating is the best option, then you can repair, rearm, get yourself together and get your revenge, at least if you retreat, you live to fight another day. So, I don't think it's dishonorable, it's just smart. I am pretty sure that if a couple of guys would be beating you to death and you had the chance to run away, would you stop and think, "Oh man, if I run away, what will my friends say, No, I better die here, at least I will not be thought of as a coward" I would run away, heal, then pick those guys off one by one, that way the fight is more equal and fair.

I don't mind having everything happen in real time (including the repairs) it makes the game more realistic, thus you would consider your actions and care about your ship more, it's kinda like the hardcore mode in Diablo2, where if your character dies, that's it, no resurects, nothing. Well, be happy that you still have saves.
