  1. Try staying at that base for about a minute or two. Don't know, whenever I get into an enemy base you can't imagine what havoc insues. As for the stormcarrier firing only his PTA, first of all he needs to be turned a specific way (pretty much straight at you) for the main guns to do any damage so it would be useless to fire them into empty space, and if he wasn't turning then don't forget it's the AI captain that's commanding that other ship, so just like people they come with different inteligence, he either thought he could take you with his PTA or he just wasn't experienced enough to manuever his ship effeciently. A little piece of advice, if a ship decloacks and attacks you, if you don't have all the upgrades, RUN. A cloacked ship means very smart AI and I found out from experience, they will chew you up.
  2. The review at that site is completly bogus. The guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Check this out 1. "All of the different species all speak in clear and concise English. " No lets let them speak english like in the first X-Tension, the aliens were so hard to understand that if not for the text you wouldn't even know what they were saying, or better yet, why don't we have some of them speak Arabic. 2. "The enemy AI will more than likely just run straight toward you from great distances, not thinking to hide behind buildings or even get into a prone position." Oh, he is trying to bash the AI here. Interesting, last time I played the enemy was very smart, not only did the enemy marines duck but they also tried weaving as to avoid my fire. So where he got that I have no idea. 3. "See, the planet flight engine falls for exactly the same reason the space simulation does: the lack of a truly dynamic world. In a game like Independence War 2, you would be hard pressed to find areas where neutral traffic wasn’t present. " I don't even know what to say here. Maybe he can start by pulling his head out of wherever he might keep it and try reading the manual as to understand how to identify neutral traffic, and he is comparing BCM to IW2, that is just so funny, now we can tell why he didn't read the manual. 4. "I was outraged at the total lack of other traffic in space, other than space stations that are manually placed, and enemy craft that seem to magically appear when you fire upon their stations. This is by far my biggest beef with the program. Is there absolutely no other traffic in space besides military craft? What about trading? What about transporting goods? It baffles me that something like this could be overlooked." Again. I just don't understand it. Did he really play the game or did he just dream the whole thing up. I don't even know what to say for this one. 5. "Back to flying the planes, they behave like most good flight simulators, but, as I said, you’ll mostly be flying around with nothing to do, which grows old very quickly. It’s too bad, because with dynamic traffic, I’m pretty sure that Battlecruiser Millennium would score at the pinnacle of computer gaming. " For one thing, if he would have some imagination then he would have found something to do very fast, but the only thing we can blame here is other games that have completly killed the imagination in todays generation and people now need their hands held everywhere. So who can blame him. As for the dynamic traffic, well I don't know what other game he was playing but it sure wasn't BCM. 6. "Once, I selected a destination several wormholes away, but encountered some enemy units halfway through. So, I selected to fly to the nearest enemy unit, but the autopilot continued to the original destination. Weird." Once again. Reading the manual on how to use NAVITRON would help. How in the world can he review a game yet he doesn't even know how to use it's basic functions I will never understand. Ok, I am going to stop here. It got me fired up so I am going to go cool down. Needles to say, this guy should get his act straight, read the manual of the game he is about to review is a start. [ 12-14-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]
  3. Just to clarify. I am talking about the exhaust or the burned fuel or whatever it is in the 30th century that they use for propulsion, that's coming out of the engines, not the green flight path trails.
  4. The way I see it is you know when your fighters are flying around there's trails coming out of their engines. Well I think what they mean by "does anyone see a trailer" is if anyone sees enemys trails, so as long as they are saying that you are safe.
  5. Very nice, very very nice. I like the tractor feel, somehow it doesn't jerk you so much, just feels more smooth, and also I like the addition of "support units" in the target choice menu, makes it much easier to pick out your own units. On the other note, something a little weird, I was in a fight, another ship bumped into me and supposebly damaged me a little bit (I got "warning, damage" voice) then when the fight was over I checked out my ship in logistix and didn't see any damaged systems, yet when I hover my mouse over the bottom icon of my CC (right bottom corner in the bridge viewer) it says that my internals are at 99%. So that's kinda weird since none of my systems, or hull is showing any damage. Other than that, it's playing much better, it doesn't even slow down after an hour so I am just thrilled. Thanks SC. Great job.
  6. Well, actually he kills for reasons. It's his reasons and that he kills innocent people for them that makes him a monster. If he had his reasons but instead declared war and was fighting military against military I am sure people would still hate him but to a lesser degree.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Yeah, I love those too. Man, just think: I had to script AND test them. I must've tweaked those fp scenarios until my fingers bled. Once I beef up the NPC situation awareness (see entry at the bottom of the VCF), it will get more challenging. One tip: don't go jetpacking around with SAMs or rocket silos around. You'll just die in a hail of glorious sparks Yeah, I seriously just can't get enough of them. It shows that you worked hard on them because you can keep playing them, die, and instead of giving up, you just want to try it "just one more time". So instead of being frustrating and hard, they are actually very fun and hard. As for boosting the AI awareness, I guess my survival will drop to 5 mins at a time.
  8. Sometimes when I jump into a region I see like 5 contacts on the radar. As soon as I appear some of the contacts cloack and some just stop fighting and fly straight for the gate out of the region. I fly a big mean stormcarrier, and once you outfit it to the max and get e.p. under your belt I noticed that AI behavior changes and they actually start running from you. It gets me laughing everytime.
  9. Yeah, if there's a fighter in the region, usually there's a clocked ship in the region, and if it's cloaked then that means 2 things, it's big, and it's mean. So you have 3 choices, (a) you hang around the region and see if the ship uncloackes, ( you shoot up the fighter, but only bad enough so that he heads for it's mothership, © you hit your engines and get out of there unless you want to face an AI that is smart and big enough to cloak itself.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: 1.0.02 is final and will be released later tonite. I have a game running for the past 7hrs and 28mins non-stop on three win98SE, win2K, winXP machines (yes, I'm invincible ) and with zero problems. I have uploaded the final VCF Short of any fatal problem, this will probably be the last patch until next year. Yes, I have a problem. Sometimes my ship refuses to respond to my commands, crew doesn't listen and a couple of seconds later it just blows up. I suspect you don't have that problem because you have invincibility on, so could you please turn it off and investigate why it happens. Also, it seems to happen in the middle of a very exciting moments, for example like fighting 2 stormcarriers and their fighters is one, ect... Thank you. [ 12-13-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]
  11. Come on. I don't know about you guys but I want the SC to concentrate on BCO. Instead of having some kind of random mission generator, I want to actually interact with people instead of go there do that get e.p. and credits. Of course (like most extras) it would be nice but not worth the ammount of time. I already have plans for BCO. The very first thing I am going to do once I get some credits in the bank is hire myself an explorer and ask him to scout out and clear me a nice patch on the planet so that I can open up my trading shop. Then I plan to expand/protect it, and eventually if I get rich enough to get myself a space station (probably get together with some other guys, or if I get really lucky, all to myself). From then on I will be making some missions for the mercenarys and assasins, so that they can do a little work for me. Oh man. I just can't wait.
  12. How do I convert the screenshots to JPG? I just had some very very exciting experiences (posted about them in "BCM war stories and experiences" thread and would love to post my screenshots. By the way, how do I post them too?
  13. I just tried some of the Instant action MI scenarios. Specifically the search and rescue ones. Oh my god they are good. I couldn't last more than 10 minutes at a time but I had 2 hours of fun. I specifically like getting to the corner of some building, crouching down and using my sniper gun to shoot at incoming marines and vehicles. So this last time (last 10 mins ) I crouched down in the middle of the base (no cover, didn't have time to run, stuff incoming from all sides) and start clearing myself a path through marines. I zoom in and do a quick 360 scan to get the idea of who is closer. 2 marines, one running, one crouching and aiming, so I take a couple of shots at the aiming one (of course), he yells and drops to the ground, so I start taking shots at the running one (by that time he is near the marine that droped to the ground) so he yells and drops too, and the first one gets up and starts firing again, I take aim and start shooting the first one again *baam* *baam* he is dead, and the second one too. So I get up and take 2 shots from behind. My health is down to about 40% so I hit the jetpack and start looking for the supply station. Find one and fly towards it, land about 1k from it, drop to the ground and do a quick scan (making sure nobody is going to disturb my "relaxation") and what do I see but 2 more marines side by side aiming at me. What I do is take them down with my sniper gun (man I love this thing). Next I run to the supply station and tell it that I urgently seek some medical attention (the sounds just kill me ) Then I rearm/repair and get on with my "rescue" again. So I see a SAM lauching a missle (those things look so cool while launching from up close) I take aim and fire, the thing blows up after about 5 seconds of concentrated fire (also what's really amazing is I see a missle flying over my head, but it's not aimed at me but something else) Then I take a couple of hits from some marines (droping my health to 30% again) so I hit the jetpack, and start looking for some safe place to touch down when I hear "warning incoming" I switch to the 3rd person view and see a missle heading right for me, a second later *kaboom* and all I see is sparks and game over. This was just pure adrenaline. I played for 2 hours (in 10 minute survival sessions). I am going to go try it again, just can't get enough.
  14. HF = Hunger factor - the larger the number the hungrier the character.
  15. Ignorant noobs. SC isn't even requiered to even let you see those RC patches, but he lets you get it in advance if you can't wait for the final. And as for you complaining about bugs, first of all, they are minor, the game is playable out of the box, and is better than 90% of games out there. Also, name one game that didn't have bugs? Go ahead. One last thing, the speed and support you get from SC for BCM is amazing compared to waiting for almoust 6 months for Black and White patch (supposebly one of the best games with all the hype). So $hut up, and don't p* off SC and others around here because once you do it's a long long way down, as for the help for any questions you might have in the future, I can't speak for anyone else but you are not getting any from me. 16. quote:Originally posted by Schmendrick: Did you play on T.E.N. at all? I used to play there under the name Purvis. Nope, I only played it in storyline. You choose a wizard to fight for, you walk around the map and capture cities and dungeons and castles for that wizard, and you have to defeat the other wizards. Also you get a card as a reward if you win a fight, and if you loose you give up a card. [ 12-12-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]

  18. The stories in RP threads are kinda like a book, but a massive story book would be very nice.
  19. I want to read a BC book.
  20. Well, I think magic (card game) is the best. I personally have never played it person to person, but rather got Magic the gathering for the PC and also it's one of the games where it's fun to watch other people play.
  21. quote:Originally posted by DREADA: Just when you thought it couldn't get any better. Wahooo! Oh trust me man. If you played BCK3000 AD v2.0, then BCM you see how much better it gets. Also, look at some of the screenshots for the upcoming titles, it's just too much to think about. It only gets better. I for one can't stop thinking about WWII add on, and BCO.
  22. LOL, SC agrees a little and now they want more. SC, watch out, next thing you know they will be seding you all kinds of wishlists.
  23. quote:Originally posted by Thermidor: I understand the "dark side of the moon" concept. What I don't understand is why the surrounding starfield goes so dark as well..that seems to imply that our own Sun provides illumination to all other stars!! (Copernicus rolls in his grave). Unless I'm just having a video problem Nah, don't worry. From this point your video card is fine. It's just the way it works. Don't know, but it might be possible to create a generic starfield for the dark side of moons/planets, but then the next guy would be crying that he wants to land on the moon and see earth. Too much trouble to go through to try and do that, and it might be too much for the video card.
  24. Hi, here's an e-mail I send to SC. I am going to copy and post so as not to loose any of the original flavor. "Definitely gameplay. I have said it before in the forums and will say it again. I played Iwar2 and I played Battlecruiser3000 AD V2.0 (when BCM wasn't out yet) and Iwar2 was gone from my system after about 4 weeks while BC3K v2.0 was still there after years and years. So when the next space "sim" comes out I will probably get it and play it too, but when I do my monthly uninstalls and clean ups, I can guarantee you that those space "sims" will be gone and BCM will still be there. So in the end gameplay is the deciding factor and beats graphics no matter how pretty they might be, if you don't believe me just see my example of BC3K v2.0 and Iwar2."
  25. quote:Originally posted by Wolferz: When MP cometh, the Redshirts will goeth. They will goeth... DeD I wonder how many people will cringe when they hear... "There's something out there." Yeah, also, when you play SP and hear that then you know it's usually one, maybe two ships. In MP, it might be a huge fleet going to attack some system.
