  1. Hey Sadistic, that's a sadistic way to register.
  2. I don't mean like a little different, a little color change here, a little lighting effect there. Is D3D and the same scene in OpenGL a complete makeover?
  3. What about the grpahics quality? Woult things look the same or a different if you look at D3D picture and then the same picture in openGL?
  4. Is it possible to completly mine the planet of minerals or do they regenerate?
  5. I gotta explain this. The reason I said that it will most likely be a Russian guy is because the Sacramento has a huge Russian population. In some other city you would never think the guy would be Russian. My point is you have to fit racial profiling to the situation and conditions at hand. Lets say someone robs the house on the in New York, and lets say statistics say that most crimes commited there by people of (A) race, and in the San Francisco most crimes are commited by the ( race. Would you suspect the ( race in New Your robery or (A) then? See, you can't say equally, because it's not. Yes, it might be the person of a ( race, BUT most likely it was (A). So to touch on this hijacking thing. Whens the last time you see a plane being hijacked by an Asian guy? I can bet never. So if you search a bag of an elderly couple who are going from NY to SF for Thanksgiving to visit their family then you are doing squat, when you can be searching the bag of an Arabic guy who is acting nervous or has a one way ticket and is lightly packed. 6. SC, whatever you do, don't spend too much money on those idiots. I want you to leave enough left over to develop more games and to enjoy life rather then spend the resources educating and teaching lessons to some retards.
  7. Talk to one ship, and give it a choice of droping it's cargo or be destroyed, and if you are attacked then telling the attacking ship that you will drop your cargo so don't kill me is about all you need. As for diplomatic negotiations. Come on. You are one, one tiny commander in a huge space empire, be it human, gammulan or any other, who are you to propose packts or station negotiations for all the other captains to follow.
  8. I had those damage effects, and believe me for a good reason.
  9. If you have other people like game developers who would also file complaints with you and take this whole thing to the end then plan it out, and then do it. But is it really worth the trouble? If they feel like raising hell on their site and gussip about things then be it. If someone goes on their site and finds some unfavorable discussions about you, believes everything and assumes that it's all true without checking out this forums and this comunity then it's GREAT, we don't need people here who don't even bother to form their own opinions and make their own decissions. Sites like that act like a filter for you. Filter out the bad and keep them there yapping, while those who bother to go deeper come here and stay. So in my opinion if it takes a lot of resources going after this then don't bother doing it alone, not worth it. But it's your decission in the end.
  10. You want some proof? Go to Sacramento, drive by a starbucks with a $2,000 stereo system blazing, then park it nearby and go somewhere for 2 hours. When you come back, I can guarantee you you won't find the stereo there, AND if they catch whoever did it, I can ALMOUST guarantee you it will be a RUSSIAN guy.
  11. Why would you bother with how long it would take to arrive? Don't worry about it, if it takes a year then be it, us "YANKS" will be putting that time to good use "testing" the game and "squashing bugs".
  12. Read in the EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO ASK thread. Page 6 towards the bottom. Read my posts and the replys and you will get the answer.
  13. What I do is deploy one drone, then when going to another planet to deploy another drone, I get into all kinds of troubles, then I deploy the second drone and head for the third planet (troubles on the way again). By the time I am done with the fourth drone it's time to pick up the first one. And getting back to that first one took me some time. You can read about it in the FUN STORIES section of this forum.
  14. Keep them doing what they are supposed to be doing and they will learn.
  15. I don't think there is to power up the ship after hitting the water. Try this. Leave one of your shutles in space. Go down to the planet in your CC, land on water, then order the shuttle to tow in into space. Maybe then you can fix whatever is damaged and restart. I don't like taking CC into the planets atmosphere (learned my lesson). I do it VERY rarely. Always before you do that, SAVE, and then exercise extreeme caution near water.

  17. So, final and very hard lesson learned. No matter how many resources you save with shields set lower and weapons off, DON'T DO IT. In the end it's just not worth the lives and the trouble.
  18. I was returning to Gamma-1 to pick up my mining drone. Well, before I engaged my hyperdrive to fly to the flux field some ship decloacked right beside me and opened fire. I ususally fly with shields set to 1/4 and weapons down so save on resources (not anymore). This whole thing was about 5 hours into the game. Well, it decloacked and opened fire right away, and I started receiving damage reports. I scrambled most of my fighters (some were destroyed in their bays), raised shields, weapons and started fighting my ship. We were at it for about 2 minutes, I was looking bad, I thought I was going to die, so I set most of my missles on him, (my weaopons pod 2 exploded and some of my missles went with it), and after about a minute of more fighting he paid the ultimate price. I started assesing the damage. EVERYTHING was damaged, leaking radiation, condition red. I can't even engage hyperdrive. So I started fixing the systems, life support first, then reactor and then engines, I didn't have enough stuff to fix them fully but still, anything would help. Then I realized that I can't engage hyperdrive (engine too damaged?) So I ordered a marine to go into the shuttle, but weird thing, since the ship is on status red, all personel just default to on-station status. So I was continuously on that marrines arse about going to the shuttle and whenever the system would default him to on-station I ordered him to the shuttle and that way eventually got him there (the captain never leaves the ship, is my rule). Ordered him to tow me to Gamma-1 since there is no station in Tyrinis. About half way through the hyperjump I get a notice that the reactor core is overheating, so this might be it. Eventually we get into the Gamma-1 system but there's still a matter of him towing me to the station, and he picks the time to mess around. Whatever order I give him he executes something else but that order, maybe has something to do with my coms being shot to hell. So I tell him to disengage tractor beam and call in for tow. About 5 minutes later I am still waiting for tow and get another message of Reactor core overheating, not going down like this, not after this long. So I say screw the tow, and start barking orders at the shuttle again. Well, this time he finally towed me to the station and then the tow calls in asking if I still require it. What do you think? NO. So I dock with the station and start packing heavy on repair minerals and spare parts FOR EVERTHING, CC, fighters, shuttles. Undock and order my crew to repair the ship. By the way, surprisingly only 5 people died in this whole thing. 2 marines, 2 medics and 1 flight engineer. Well, for the past 2 hours I been picking up my mining drones and licking my wounds, running everytime I hear the alert siren. Got the ship half fixed. Going to go put her in good shape. Later.
  19. Ooops. My memory is 256mb RDram. Been playint for 7 hours now. Man I got stories. [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Soback ]
  20. Does BCM use D3D right now? And is openGL better?
  21. I might be wrong, but your graphics card drivers look out of date.
  22. Question on that weapons appendix. If marines need combat packs witch I can purchase from miscelaneous items in the station inventory, what are all the first person weapons and ammo for?
  23. LOL, about 5 or so intruders beamed onboard, I dispatched about 7 marines to take care of them and had about 10 marines in the room where they get ready and then sit there waiting for orders. Well, one of the intruders decided to visit that room, he didn't last 30 seconds, the next time the system updated the perscan, he wasn't there.
  24. Yeah, it's just kinda weird, if I just start the game from the freshly booted computer I can have 20 to 30 contacts in a sector all fighting and it runs fine, but after about 45 to an hour of gameplay it can be all quiet (me, some trading ships, and a space station) and the game is acting jumpy, music is kinda garbled and is jumpy too. If I save, reboot, and restore from where I left off it will be fine again for an hour or so. I can live with it it's no big deal, but playing continuously without reboots would be so much better. Survived for 4 hours now by the way.
