Uh, sorry I couldn't post any earlier warning. There's an episode of TechTV's Big Thinkers on Douglas Adams. It aired earlier tonight @ 8:30 PM Eastern, and will air again at 11:30 PM. (The official TechTV page for this episode is here.) It was an okay/good interview. In my opinion, cool. I'm not really sure what to say, so I think I'll leave my opinion at that. Incredibly, this interview took place just eight days before his death on May 11, 2001. If you're a fan of his, you probably won't want to miss it. Let me quote a bit from the schedule of this episode, just in case you want to watch it, but can't get to a TV in time (it's in that epsiode page I linked above): quote:adcast schedule The Douglas Adams' episode of "Big Thinkers" airs Monday February 11, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. Watch encore episodes the following weekend at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday (all times Eastern). TechTV is channel 354 on DirectTV Satellite, if you've got it. Can't tell you about other satellite, cable, or people out of the US. If you don't have TechTV, I'm sorry. (I have it recorded, but alas--I got rid of my TV Tuner months ago. ) Yeah. I kinda knew there were a few fans of his out here, but I kinda forgot to tell ya guys. My bad. Enjoy! [ 02-11-2002, 22:20: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

You can't do that--he's not under your command since he's still in the Academy. Only Badger, Blades, or GMAN (if Blades is not present) can promote people from the Academy. Personally, I wanna make some AVI files, mix it with some music, and do some other stuff, and use that as a recruitment file..... But I still have to find a good free (or shareware) program like that. Good to see you back, JJ.

Most ships in most sci-fi movies/series can "secure" areas, either because of intrusion, or because of a serious hull breach (to prevent deck-wide vacuum)... just watch star wars ... why doesn't BCM have some of those?Maybe it does... Just that the AI isn't smart enough to use it yet.

Test. I've changed "Newbie Welcome Wagon" to Public Relations Officer. It sounds more "official", and nowadays, I'm doing more than n00bs. I'm the energizer bunny, after all. Your jack-of-all-trades if you may. Public Relations Officer equals: ---Newbie Welcome Wagon ---Assistant Commandant to Academy (unofficial). ---Supplement to the Recruitment and Morale Officers. ---Other PR roles, such as recruitment posters (still under works), and helping others around and such. From what I've seen, Epsilon 5 would fit such a "rank". (It's still more of an unofficial "title".) Of course, I wanna wait until you upper-rank guys accept this as a rank before having me or Ep5 use it. For now, this is just a revised version of the Newbie Welcome Wagon. Commander Nova--NWW v2.0! (And yes Blades, you were right about me being more of a PR guy, when I wanted to run the RP site instead of PR. Hehe, it still amazes me how well you saw through me. ) (EDIT: Again.) By coincidence, your intruders seem to beam in closer to Engineering, probably. Heh, if they only went to Operations more often... (IIRC, it's Resnig's stomping grounds on your ship.)

I've had wayyy to many ideas that could turn into great things..... Heh, I'm too lazy to work though. I'm working on (yet another) Orion Fleet logo, to see if we can finalize one. -
Hey, HTML r0x0rz! I like your idea of an all-flash site, though. No new windows = no more angelfire popups! (Except the first one.) It's very well done. I suck at Flash, though, so I'm sticking with combination HTML/Javascript powered site with a kick of Flash once in a while. But I'm too lazy or busy to code whenever I'm on the computer.

Nice job, Grayfox. Cool music in the background and such. Let me see what I can come up with. I'm home from school, because I'm sick right now, and I've got too much time on my hands anyway. -
quote:Judging from posts that IÔÇÖve read at the BCM forums, this review isnÔÇÖt going to go down well with the BCM fans. I can see that people are going to email me telling me that I just donÔÇÖt get it. No biggie ÔÇô thatÔÇÖs happened before.Actually, I think he was one of the better ones. I think Rorschach deserves a good welcome here. He tried his best, and actually read the manual. (That's something that most of the new guys have yet to do.) It was a very good review. And I especially loved the humor of it. quote:I hereby declare that BCM is the game that I would most want to be trapped on a deserted island with. Is that good thing? Clearly my first choice would be not to be trapped on a deserted island in the first place, but if I found myself completely without a life, with hours and hours on my hands with nothing else to do, then the universe of BCM would be a great escape.Damn, if I only had no life. I've only probably played BCM for about 20-30 real hours so far..... This is going to have to change..... Good review. That's it in a nutshell. [ 02-08-2002, 10:35: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

1. Have you updated BCM yet to 1.0.05? 2. Try to boot with the BCM CD in the drive. Some people said that helped. 3. Also try to take off any other programs in the background. CD-R/W programs like DirectCD can interfere, if you haven't patched/upgraded those. 4. Make sure BCM is installed in the default directory. If somethin's not working, I usually reinstall my copy there to see if that works.

Nice find, GMAN. quote:Originally posted by Grayfox: quote: Originally posted by Greg Miller: this is a monster cardhow big we talkin? like the old voodoo 5 5500??? that thing was freakin HUGE. had the 2 32MB chips with fans on it and needed its on power supply plug... lol i thought the thing wouldnt fit in my tower... I saw it on "The Screen Savers" on Tech TV. It's a regular AGP card (of course). Funny thing is, my old PCI ATI Rage 128 looks bigger than it. All 128MB of that memory looks like it's been compressed really well... And that l33t looking spaceage heatsink/fan attatched to it was pretty nice, too. *drool* (EDIT: Got a picture of it! ) Sweet, eh? Shame I can't even afford any hardware upgrades right now. Oh, and the 27.xx unofficial beta drivers have been for download now, with support for the GeForce 4. Find them at 3d Chipset, here.
-
Heh. I was home sick today, and while channel surfing the TV, I came across TechTV. They had a preview of the GeForce 4 TI4600, 128MB model. My first thoughts: "Woah." My next thoughts: "Where the hell did this come from?" It so seems that nVidia released it yesterday. See the press release here. Damn. Caught me by surprise. 128MB video cards? Man, that's more RAM than my PC came with.

Like I said. Please keep all discussion of this over here. And please show your support for Foss in these trying times. Like I said in the other thread of this: "We've got to support each other in times like this. You know, we're like family here." Thanks.

From here on in, this is a "copied-and-pasted" thread. I wanted to get the word out on this serious matter, so I'm posting a copy of the first post here. The actual thread of this is here. Please leave all discussions over there. Please. Okay? Begin cut and pasting (with some modifications) here: ---------- The following is an E-Mail I got from Akuma earlier today. It was sent to the Orion Fleet fleetwide E-Mail group. quote:A card for Richard Gamble and his family... I would like to send this e-mail out to everyone that I know and can reach to request permission to sign you're name on the card that I've made for Richard and his family in this sorrowful time. If you comply just send me back a message saying yes and what you would like me to put down. Thank you so much. -Amilee Hagon, Wintersong, Akuma Minako, Mayoke Gingitsune, Alexandria LetheranilNone of this made any sense to me. And since I've been known to lurk the net for absolutely no reason what-so-ever, I recognized "Wintersong" in there. After a bit of thought, I remembered seeing it in a site in Akuma's profile. Well, to make a long story short, I traced this to this topic: quote:Some Bad Tidings Andigar, you know, our moderator? Well of Feb, 02,02 (his birthday) We got a call that his grandmother in Vancouver was dying. She had alzheimers desease and had forgotten how to eat and drink. Just this morning she passed away and I would like to ask you all to send you're best wishes to his family and him. I'm going to be sending a card around Icq. please..Sign it, send it on to others who know Andigar...And then return it to me. -Wintersong(I assume Andigar is Richard (who we know as David Foss), and Wintersong is Amilee (who we know as Akuma)... These are my best guesses, and are only assumptions... I assume this, because Foss's birthday was on the 2/2, as said in that message.) If I'm reading and interpreting this right, then, well..... I have really nothing to say, except that my best wishes and prayers are with him and his family. That's basically it.... Because I really don't know what to say. Good luck to all involved. I know what it feels like to hear about and see someone in your own family suffer. Just don't give up hope or anything--there's always enough hope to go around. I hope this helps. So, if you want to put your name on that card, and support ol' Foss and his family, then send Akuma a message, as quoted above in that E-Mail. Her E-Mail address (at least the one she used to send that E-Mail) is [email protected]. (Sorry if I posted here before you did, Akuma. Just wanted to sort things out and clarify things, ok?) What I'd like to do in multiplayer
Cmdr Nova replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser Series
Good plans grayfox. I like your style. You think quick. You're sure to advance pretty well in Orion. And don't worry about that l33t. It happens to the best of us. 0r10|| 0w||z0rz j00 f00z! And I've been thinking about a new (unofficial) Orion motto, in the interim. We put the l33t in "elite"!! -
Perfect. Now get yourself over to the Orion Fleet's Station Communications Forum, and introduce yourself if you haven't already. Commandant Badger should be waiting. *evil grin*
-
ROTFLMAO!!! *bookmarks page* It's wartime, boys! Let's call out the troops!

Precisely. I remember hearing on the news about 3 high schools already practicing to be in the victory parade. Cocky fools. Funny thing is, no one at my school even seems to remember planning for such an event. They all say the Rams suck. Heh. That is the one thing that pissed me off today. People who said they were fans, who, upon losing, instantly changed sides. But, I admit that the Patriots deserved it. It's their first Super Bowl title, so good job to them. Next year, we'll show 'em. And isn't it just dandy--we won by 1 yard last time we were at the Super Bowl (XXXIV), and this time, we lost by 4 seconds with a Field Goal. Oh, sure we can beat the Packers by 30-something. But it's the Super Bowl where we always make it close. Great season. Now, it's back to reality..... Or virtual reality.....
-
Mmmmm..... 17-17.... 7 seconds left..... 48 (?) yard field goal attempt..... It's good! Patriots win, 20-17. Hm..... What do I say? I guess it's this: This is what the Super Bowl is all about. Down to the last seconds. The Rams gave it their all in the last 2 min. Really close to the first overtime in SB history. It was good to the last drop. Nice touch, eh? The Patriots win what is one of the most patriotic game ever. Congrats to the Patriots. There's always next year.
