The following mirrors are hosted by the Orion Fleet RP Source. (That's me. ) The server's pretty fast; many thanks to Blades's part. Enjoy! BCM 1.0.05 Full BCM 1.0.05 Incremental (1.0.04 Full or old (botched) 1.0.05 Required) [ 01-27-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Holy mother of God!! Me wants wanna them!!!
Cmdr Nova replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Chatter
Heh. I looked at that article, and thought it was impressive, and didn't pay much attention afterwards. Then I looked at that Tom's Hardware link that RM provided. See for yourself: here. Check out that Sysmark benchmark. *twitch* *twitch* My only reaction was "woah". And some twitching afterwards. Check out the other benchmarks. Some of these you'll just have to brace yourselves for. 'Nuff said. *twitch* -
Heh. We've got the man from St. Louis that's cheering on the Rams... The man from St. Louis that's cheering on the Eagles... The few folks from near Pittsburgh cheering on the Steelers.... The Wisconsiners (that's how you say it? ) who were cheering on the Packers..... A few hapless, lost internationals.... And the lost man from Oregon, who's had one too many medpacks recently..... An interesting week it's been, all leading up to Sunday's game.....

Charter Communications has some pretty good prices on cable internet service. It's somewhere around $26 (excluding modem and tax and crap like that) for a 256k or so connection. (At least, last time I checked.) Heh, that's about the same price as basic AOL service. See EarthLink (the ISP that hosts Charter customers), or Charter itself, to see if you can get it. From when I had it last year, the quality of the service was good. But I doubt this matters because you're in California and I'm in Missouri. Later.

First post! Nice, SC! Heh. This one almost came as a surprise. Good thing I still do my VCF runs at least once a day.

Good. I see that the announcement is out. I'd like the people who are planning to cancel citizenship to reconsider. As part of the "Cloud Centris" team, and a probable choice for the team operating "Starstation: Centron", I'd like to show some opinions now. I'd like to keep the commander's village (I haven't been there since the tourist elimination has been in effect), and intertwine it to work with Centron. Like we'll have meetings there or something. I'd like to see Cloud Centris also grow and expand; perhaps we could lay out a specific, BC ONLY section of CCentris to suit this. In fact, once Centron is online, I'd love to see (or build myself) a "Starstation Centron News HQ" or something like that. Heh.... I'm always full of big plans and ideas, but I've never got enough time on my hands. And when I do, I'm too tired or lazy to work..... The life of a slacker. Hopefully it improves soon. (Side note: I am working on my Orion Fleet RP Source site. The plans I've been working on completely r0x0r!! You'll just have to wait and see...)

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Yep, I agree. Hopefully, we'll get more n00bs for Nova's welcome wagon *cringes in pain at the thought* Oh, and make that Nova-The Newbie Welcome Wagon and Freight Train. (With Weakest Link and Survivor plugins! ) Hm... Didn't get a chance to flatten Shirley, though. Heh. One of these days, he should get his own detractor. The way he clings on to Derek's shadow, there'll be someone clinging to his shadow one of these days.

Idea: Derek, are you still planning to add that "Who's Online" UBB addon? If we used that in conjunction with the closed forum system we had a while back, we could trace exactly what usernames the trolls are using. Just a thought I picked up from some other forums.
-
Oh, where do I start. How about: quote:Posted by Shirley (quite obviously): My serial number for BCM is 51B4-42C2-D692-232D Would someone like to cross-reference this? (SC?) I mean, the forums still have that CD-Key part of your profile, and if Shirley/Fabio has an actual key, someone might be really pissed off when he finds out someone's using his key on MP or even the forums. Just a thought. Heh. I just put out the little glowy cinders that were there. (Sorry if I raise tensions or anything, but it was all in good interest. ) ----- I have a strange feeling I'm gonna be the next impersonation by Shirley.

If you have the retail version, just download the full 1.0.04 one. 1.0.03/1.0.04 RC1 -> 1.0.04 patch is an incremental one. Like the ones they have for Tribes 2, where you have to download one, to download another. The latest FULL version contains all files in previous versions, and updates for the current version; this means that it's just a 1-patch thing.

quote:As for BCO, I'm looking forward to that, though my experiences with online gaming are few, and I tend to be the guy who always loses. I guess someone has to lose, I might as well be that someone. Hey Duncan. There's something you can do to help yourself. Go join a fleet. It seems that you want to join GalCom (as in, that GCV in your shipname), so join a fleet! (Infact, a fleet is required to be a GalCom member.) Orion Fleet's Academy, and other services (like me, the Newbie Welcome Wagon), are sure to set you off on the right foot once and for all in multiplayer. If you've got the balls to do it, we've got the sk|11z to pass on to you newblood. Send an e-mail to [email protected] for recruitment info. We won't settle for second best. I hope to see you drifting our way. Nova, over and out.

Real Time problem again - don't get upset
Cmdr Nova replied to Gustavo's topic in Battlecruiser Series
LOL! You could play for 12 years? 12 is still too long, my friend. We'd all be playing BCO by then--or even better. -
Whoo! VCF Updates!!!!! It looks to me like the Beta testers are alread at 1.0.05 RC3..... Cool. Here's an important looking one: quote:1.0.05 RC1 New saved game digital signature check now compatible and compliant with the upcoming multiplayer Beta release file format. My interpretation of this is another wipe of the save files. Bad now, but it's good when MP comes out. Another plus is that it shows us that we're getting closer to the MP patch release!!! Keep it up guys!! (Guys, as in, Derek and the Beta team.) [ 01-22-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

*grin* The newbs have already figured out a way to essentially camp in BCM. Let's see if we can't find a way to stop this.... *twitch* B4d n00b. B4444d. *twitch* Here we go: new addition to the bible I quoted in this thread: Thou shalt not camp. This will, of course, be punishable by me, or some mercenaries here and there. Menchise: 1&2: I have no idea. 3: It's like that every other year or so. Don't know what's on the slate for this year, so I can't prepare you. rtoolooze: Small world, eh? Heh, one of the teachers at my little sister's school is from Milwaukee. Imagine everyone elses surprise when she wore a Packers uniform on "Rams day" last week. On a side note--(former) ISS Fleet Commander Ristar is from St. Louis as well.

quote:I really don't care too much about Philly, but now I'm saying, "GO EAGLES!" just to get back at the freakin Rams. Touch├® then........ *laughs maniacally*

Unofficial questions about your PC sound system
Cmdr Nova replied to Vanethian's topic in Battlecruiser Series
1. Labtec PC Speakers (or my Sony Home Theater System) 2. Intel Integrated AC'97, on motherboard 3. Yes, when I hook up my comp to the theater system. -
Blades has had this little project going for a while, trying to rewrite Preemptive Strike into a novel-form. But unless someone actually gets him the free time, and forces him to do it, it's doubtful it'll be finished any time soon. Hm. I haven't read any books by Eric Nylund..... But I have played Halo once, and it r0x0rz!!! Me and my PC-playing friends are waiting for the PC version, while Donnie (the friend who owns an X-Box) mocks us while we wait. I think some of our RP vets like DeSylva, or Blades, or some of the others could make a pretty good book, if they were given the chance, and the money for the job. 'The Pluto Insurgency', is by-far, my favorite stand-alone BC story. Go read it (and some RP's) some time if you're looking for a nice, long story in the BC Universe. Nova, over and out.

quote:Three qwatloos for the newcomers! LOL!!! It's been forever since I've heard anyone use quatloos/qwatloos. Wierd times. *shudders* Anyway, some updates: Green Bay - 17 St. Louis - 45 Heh. We absolutely 0wnz3d them all the way! A useless statistic: this is the worst Green Bay postseason loss, in history. T-Minus 1 week, and 6 days (and a few hours) until Super Bowl Sunday........ GO RAMS!!! [ 01-20-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Okay. Time to talk football. It's week 2 of the playoffs, and the Super Bowl is drawing near. Now, here's the question: who do you think will win the Super Bowl this year? Here's the current possible Super Bowl listing: NFC -- Philadelphia OR Green Bay OR St. Louis VS AFC -- New England OR Pittsburgh From the time of this posting, Green Bay and St. Louis are going to be going at it in a few minutes. Being a local, I'm biased towards St. Louis, naturally. 500,000 GalCreds on the Rams! So, who's your bet on?

*If you read the post above earlier, something just popped up in RL, and I might not be able to help like I said. Sorry for the confusion.* (This message has been brought to you, by Nova, because Nova realized he had to change his earlier plans on this and the preceeding post, and cannot delete his post that he just posted. Thank you for your time, and please drive responsibly. ) [ 01-19-2002: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

quote:I've made many adjustments with my video card drivers (23.11, 22.80, 21.81, and finally 21.83) and find that the 21.83 (the latest WHQL) are the best, for what it's worth. Use 22.80 or 23.11. Or at least don't use a 21.xx driver. WHQL is just a Microsoft quality-assurance thing. In fact, those drivers are reported to have some DirectX 8 problems. Some glitch resolving: Head into "Display Settings->Settings->Advanced->(Insert Card Name Here)->Additional Properties->Direct3D Settings", make sure you've got your Mipmap detail level at "Best Image Quality", which is the default. Tweaking of settings to improve performance won't work here; it'll produce tearing in some games. Run BCM, and/or other Direct3D games in 32-bit screen mode, also, because tearing also occurs with nVidia cards in 16-bit. quote:If I saved a game while the 21.81's were installed, will the saved game work later if the 21.83's or other drivers are installed?? Yes. quote:I have also adjusted BIOs settings for my AGP card one at a time to see if I could affect BCM stability. NO effect for me. 4x with fast writes is the same as 1x with nothing: still get CTD's and lock ups at default BCM settings and higher. My thoughts on my system and my stability problems: 1. Vastly improved hardware has not made a great impact in improving BCM stability. 2. Changing Video Card drivers has had a MILD impact. 21.83's seem better. 3. Reducing BCM graphical options to default has a mild impact. (fewer CTD's, still LOCKS UP in time, and still can not play the game, quit out, and then restart the game (must reboot)). 4. 640x480 is sh*ttier than 1024x768. And the higher the resolution/graphical options, the more often I get CTD's and lock ups. 5. AGP bios settings don't help at all. 6. Could windows 98se be the culprit? 7. will windows xp be any better ? (shudder) 8. OR COULD THIS BE, possibly, BCM itself? the latest patch, the code, who knows? 9. What other things should I try to do to enjoy this game? Put back your default BIOS settings, as a "control". (Best way to experiment something is try it one at a time. ) 1. Faster doesn't necessarily mean more solid. (But I wish I had those system specs. ) 2. Please, please. Use 22.80's or 23.11's. Use all default settings. Even if you used some driver removal tool, head into that display properties->advanced thing like I said above, and make sure everything is default. 6. Not sure. 7. Probably, but don't go there, unless you have the cash, and can handle a system re-format. (XP is more solid as a clean install.) 8. Probably not. It works on my computer just fine. See my system specs if you wanna compare. 9. Tell us: Are you running anything in the background? Do the 3-fingered-salute (control-alt-delete), and try to close everything except "Explorer" and "Systray". Are you running under custom swap file (a.k.a. virtual memory) settings? If so, try and let Windows control it, just to be safe. Anyway, try those things above. Also, try to run BCM the way you regularly would. High res, and whatnot. If you get a crash, keep that save file; you could use it for tech support later, to see if it's the save file (which it's 99% probably not) or your system, or system config, or something else.
