BC vets on the newbreed of newbies
Cmdr Nova replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Universal Combat Series
quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: So, what do you vet thinks of the new breed of newbies? I've seen great promise (and some pretty hilarious humour) from the new breed. They show a lot of promise. What do you guys think? I like 'em. And so far, I've only banned one (Melanie650) I now know has a pirated copy of the game and temporarily suppressed another's posting rights (Zuul). Since these guys show such promise, I'm not sure we're going to get the mp fodder we were so looking forward to. [ 12-10-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] These guys seem to have more common sense than past generations. Back when I was a newb (right about the Episode 1 demo), most of us were pretty much, more or less bumbling fools. Heh, I remember leading a fight for Indie Rights back a few months ago..... The word is naive-ness. (If there is such a word. ) That's something that these new BCM newbies don't seem to show a lot of. Which is good. The new guys are enthusiastic, exhibit some common sense, and they're every bit as crazy as some of us vets here.... *cough*Tac*cough* quote:Originally posted by Urza: Actually, the funny breed of newbie was around for a while. (I remember when I was a newbie ) But now, we're getting this new form of "super-n00b" that could give us a run for our money, come multiplayer. Super n00b? Boy, oh boy.... Read this, and you'll understand how I can see newbies from their point of view.... Ouch; I was more pitiful back then, than most newbies I see today. (Read above reply to SC for more.) Beginners luck never came around to me. It wasn't until I started hanging around the vets, and helping the newbies with info until I actually improved. Then Blades notices my ability to get in touch with newblood, and recruits me to Orion Fleet. The rest is history. Ahh, time goes by so fast. To tell you the truth, I've only said RTFM probably twice in my entire time on these forums. And that was before I was the NWW you see before you today. quote:Originally posted by Carl Burning: Define 'vet' for the BC series A 'vet' is a guy who has made a good name for himself on the Forums. It's basically being well-known for something good, or just being around for a long time. In my case, I'm a vet because of the first rule. ----- Kneel before my feet, for I am a moderator!!! Be amazed at my incredibly vast knowledge, and my Newbie Welcome Wagon-ness!!!! Mwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! (Edit: I'm still feeling the moment after my promotion...... Yeah, um, I think I'll head off to bed now...) (Edit2: Post 888!!!! w00t!!! ....Alright, so it probably isn't anything special.... Read the first edit, and understand that I'm high off of medpacks rightnow....) [ 12-10-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
A few Questions to you lot if I may........
Cmdr Nova replied to JAY's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Injecting myself with a vaccination isn't my idea of fun..... (I.... um... don't like needles. Yeah.) A few beers? Sure. Sniff a couple MedPacks? Why not? VacPacs??? Erm... I'm not that drugged. I'm more addicted to BC, after all. [ 12-10-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
Yes, a personal remark, comment, or threat.... That kind of thing gets you banned. Freaky, that's something I just wrote up in the latest draft copy of the Orion Fleet Handbook, for the Code of Conduct.... Even freakier, most of the operational info in that guide is based on, or is a copy of stuff that Hamblin's written..... Ack, this business of mine writing the handbook is starting to get pretty depressing. I've had to add a bit about Carlton's resignation to the guide, remove his name from the command list, and now I'm doing it to Hamblin...... [ 12-10-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

A few Questions to you lot if I may........

quote:Originally posted by ooJAYoo: 1. Made a landing on a moon, and it was almost pitch black when viewing outside the ship, got myself out there and noticed it was just as black. Are there any landing spotlights that can be projected from the ship at all to illuminate the general landing area?? You're most likely on the dark side of that moon. If you wanna know where you are going on that planet/moon, look at where you set that waypoint in TacOps. If you didn't set a waypoint for your planetfall, you'll end up at 0-degrees. (Intersection of Prime Meridian (spelling?) and Equator.) Also, TacOps should display a "local time" when you hover your mouse over an area of a planet/moon. You can also work from that. IIRC, only Fighters/Interceptors have the little image enhancer... (But I can't find the command in the Keyboard Quick List... Maybe I'm wrong.) But you can illuminate the ground while in first person, by activating your DIE (darklight image enhancer) by pressing "SHIFT-O", and changing it's mode by pressing "O" (not zero ) until you get to the darklight capability mode of the DIE. quote:2. Why is it that when my Commander (me) got outside I wasn’t wearing any Helmet? surely it couldn’t have been a breathable Atmosphere ? Try exiting your craft on a planet with a violent atmosphere/weather system.... Like a gas planet (i.e. Jupiter). Be sure to save it first, though..... *evil grin* quote:3. I saw while on the Bridge, small flashes or explosions on the screen when viewing outside, plus these was on the display when planning Waypoints, still there when I got back into space...what are they? Hm... I had this, too. It was fixed around 1.0.02 RC7. What version are you running? quote:4. SAS Diode... Can’t seem to get it cleared, as soon as I started the game my ship was boarded! The ship seems to be constantly being boarded from the word go. Isnt this a little overkill on the boarding thing???... If shields are up, like in Star Trek or something shouldn’t this prevent transports to and from the ship? It used to be that intruders could always get in, but 1.0.02 RC8 added this bit: "Intruders will no longer board your ship if the EMD is on or you are in hyperspace". Anyway, when I'm in battle, I use my PAD instead of missiles, and keep the EMD on the whole time. But it doesn't help when I'm boarded by a ship that's cloaked..... Then I'm screwed. (Super Cruiser-10 Marines..... All incompetent fools.... *sigh*) If you're boarded by more marines than you can handle, dock at a neutral or friendly station ASAP! The intruders are instantly transported to your brig. Just make sure to recruit more marines, if you lost any. (This was the step I forgot, until I realized I didn't have any next time I was boarded... ;; ) Nova, over and out. Hehehe.... I'm a forum admin for this Newbie Forum; after all, I'm the Newbie Welcome Wagon...... ph3aR //3!!!! me_0wnz_j00 n00bs now!!! (Step away from the medpacks, Nova...) Wow. Cool. Thanks guys. Woah..... What began as a little nickname that Blades used to call me, eventually led to me being a moderator to a new newbie forum.......... So be nice to the newbies, guys. I'm watching now....
-
30GB? Wow.... I can host a mirror on the RP Source, if Blades lets me. I get enough traffic from newbies as it is, and it doesn't seem to slow down. (I'll keep an eye out for what Blades has to say, before uploading it. He's sys-admin after all for the server, and I wouldn't want him to get fired in real life for killing the server..... )
-
Also add a new link to the list: Intercorp Unlimited; would go under UCV on Fleet Links. (I'm going to be their Liaison, after all, when (if?) they get their act together and finally send everything into Tacops. In fact, they've already submitted most of their info to Tacops, so I say put them in the links.) [ 12-10-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

LOL! This has got to be the best news release yet!

....... ....... *sigh* Orion's now been dealt 2 blows to our ranks in the past 3 weeks. The recent resignation of the Deathbringer's Battle Group Commander, Carlton, and then this. Shoot, I'm speechless right now. [ 12-10-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Real trouble in getting those Cargo Pods!!

Can you even tow a cargo pod from a CC? I can't seem to remember. (Don't smack me.... I mean it. ) -

quote:Originally posted by vogelap: My fantasy for BCM is a combination of it's OUTSTANDING gameplay (and an added 'story mode' with missions for single player) with the graphical richness of IW2 -- everything that IW2 offers -- from the pre-rendered movies to the in-engine cutscenes. This, in my opinion, would add the glitz to the gameplay that would propel BCM to the top of the heap. Derek once said to me that he'd never do a story based BC game. Why? To keep it's open-endedness that makes it a BC game. I agree with Derek also, in saying that cutscenes are only mainly based towards story-driven games. (But I do have an ingenious plan to create campaigns that could be story-based, using passwords you recieve ingame, to get into a page on a website, for a briefing and whatnot. Like one of those cheesy new BradyGames strategy guides for FF9, Chrono Cross, and other new RPGs where they extend the guide online, using keycodes.) Back on topic, I think it all boils down to the imagination and abilities of the player to understand the game. If you've got no imagination what-so-ever, then I'm thinking a complex, open-ended game like BCM would probably not be your type. The average BC gamer is an educated one. I've already seen this in effect on the forums. Take the RP forums for example. Such cool and incredible epic stories probably wouldn't be possible with someone who only played closed environment games. In BC, we make our own stories. That's what makes this game, in my opinion, cool. Nova, over and out. [ 12-10-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

If you make your shuttles come back, you should be able to get into tacops. That's what I did.

Really, Jaguar..... 12 lines, not including spaces or that image. Is there a record for this on the forums? Great job, testers. And a wonderful job on the game, Derek! From me; a non-tester.

*gasp* An actual Newbie forum! My schedule's cleared up a bit, so I may be on the forums a bit more than I was last week and the week before. (RP) *Sets up a tent* "I'm back. Ahhh... The Forums. The people, the places.... The smell." *takes a deep breath* *cough* *gag* "What the hell is that smell? Oh yeah. We've got newbs around now.... I might need a bigger tent....." *sigh* (/RP) Newbie Welcome Wagon, reporting in! So if you newbs think you've annoyed Derek enough for the day, come see me a visit! You know, being the Newbie Welcome Wagon, and all, shouldn't I get some perks for this? Really, shouldn't I?

I think Quick Save updates your "Resume" data. You can just click resume on the main menu to go back.... Quick Save is one of those things to do, just incase of a crash. Remember that the "Resume" data is changed if you use another file, or start a new regular game. (IA/TA excluded, obviously)

Number 1: How could you have had the problem with RC8? 1.0.02 RC8 was never released. It was just for internal testers only. Number 2: The older RC patches are removed, because the newer ones include the older ones. They are all uploaded to the same filename, so even if you use the same link as last time, you'll still get RC9. 1.0.01 was removed just recently. I think, because all the RC5+ patches use a new savegame format, and SC doesn't want to deal with folks complaining about that, even though the instructions are clearly placed in the VCF, and the patch says something like "Remember to read the version control before running this version!" when the patch is complete. Number 3: I've had this problem, as well. If you launch a shuttle from Tacops, planetside, you'll get back into your bridge, with a weird graphical glitch in the middle of your screen. Press F1, and it's gone. I've been working around this, and it isn't that bad. [ 12-09-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Don't care about graphics, if there ain't a good story, or if the gameplay just sucks. (I just played and finished Chrono Trigger and FF4 for the very first time, a couple weeks ago..... Just as good as any or the new ultra spiffy 3d RPGs.) [ 12-09-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Sorry, on military stuff here. I'm too young, still. Macross: Battlecruiser Millennium total conversion
Cmdr Nova replied to Vigilince's topic in Battlecruiser Millennium
Well, you could hope that GBS-II comes with some extra utilities for editing ship stats, names, items, and such...... Because if it doesn't, you'll only have a just-for-looks mod, with a campaign or missions to go with it.
