Post-patch, I've already tried and CTDed it, on observation of the Moon, Earth, and Mars. Centris had no problems. I'll re-install to see if it was the patch, because I know I got to Obseve Earth before I got the patch, and it crashes now. I'll report back soon.

No debris fields anymore? *sigh* (I'm a BC3k-er.) Roger that SC. I did notice a huge slowdown, just as I'd enter the Debris Field, like you said.

I've got Zuul's problem. (So you're not alone after all.....) Used a Violon, launched from Orion (Centris). Played around, fought some enemies, and after all that, I decided to go to Earth for some Debris Field sweeping. I had my shuttle tow me to Earth (I do this for speed and conservation of my radine), and fly me to the Debris Field. After I was there, I had him unlock the tow, and go on a cargo sweep. Nothing yet. Then, I head over to the Shuttles menu you get from the CC Icon, and then told all shuttles (the other 3 were still in CC and ready to launch) to Cargo Sweep. Just as I clicked, it crashes to desktop. System Specs: Windows ME Celeron 500 192 MB RAM ATI All-In-Wonder 128 (Rage 128-16 MB) (Latest drivers-4.13.7192) DirectX 8.1 Crashed both before the Beta patch and after I patched. Tried this about 5 times. Does it every time. Disabled the System Restore feature of WinME. I manually set my Virtual Memory to 512MB. Defraged my system after I installed BCM. Cleared/compacted my RAM before running game (using one of those utility things), and closed every background program. Now, the common denominator between me and Zuul is Windows ME. Anyone else have this problem? Especially if you've got another OS. Follow the steps I've described. (Launch, go to Earth (if not already there), fly to Debris Field, have marines or pilots in all shuttles and use the shuttles menu to give all shuttles the cargosweep command.) The Beta patch covered all the other problems I've had; game's solid as a rock. If you need any more help, I'll try to be around tonight.

quote:Wait until you really get into a furball engagement (20+ craft) then watch your computer come to a grinding halt. Heh, it doesn't need to be 20 craft. Hear this: 2 Gam/Mil ships come in from nowhere, and start attacking. I'm near the Orion Starstation. In about 2 minutes, the station launches 20-30+ SF Marines.......... I have a Celeron 500 and a Rage 128 (16MB)......... It turned from a 40-50 FPS thing to less than 9FPS.... I know I'm upgrading soon.

Clueless Newbie Questions
Cmdr Nova replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Oh, and the Playmod utility is being brought up to BCM. There's gonna be a release soon. If you haven't played BC3k with playmod, it's basically a cheat utility. You can modify a ton of stuff. If you've got BC3k, check it in the GBS/cheats folder. You can give yourself instant Fleet C&C from there. You can even create guests and prisoners! Heh, I'm bringing my friends and family on board! -
I was playing around Centris, and saw a Gam/Merc Stormcarrier, with an RTB to Orion..... (See here for the story, and screenshots.) So it was $ilk..... That ship is huge! Really cool stuff. ----- My latest BCM experience was when I was down on the surface of, I think, Midae (had to hide from "New America" somewhere; I was Ter/Mil), and when I had the autopilot land, I didn't realize that there was a slope on the way.... (That was probably only the 2nd time I used the land command. Was still trying it out and testing it.....) The ship goes down nice and slow, and then you hear *boom*, *scratch* *scratch* *bump* and I stop. Down to 70% integrity. Can't even take off under my own power. Can't launch a shuttle, because my reactors are down. Life support was down, as well. So I decided to leave the ship for a little walk around the planet, while everyone inside the ship was dying, gasping for air. I think I'll land with my own skills, like I'm used to from now on. Yeah, I'll let Mother handle things like Inter-system navigating. Leave the planets to me, please. [ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Dell Inspiron 8000, mouse disappears (resolved)
Cmdr Nova replied to projectar's topic in Battlecruiser Series
1. Upgrade your drivers at www.nvidia.com . 2. If you use an animated or theme mouse pointer, change it to the default "plain vanilla" one. See if that stuff helps. Howdy there, newbies! I'm the welcome wagon up in this forum. If you've got any BC Universe-based questions, you're free to ask. ( [email protected] ) Also, if you're waiting for multiplayer, may I suggest joining a fleet? I've got a near complete guide to the organizations (GalCom, Insurgency, etc.), the Fleeting basics and other stuff. It's all here. And while I'm at it, may I suggest this wonderful fleet? So far, Orion is the most active fleet in the forums. We're the heavy strike force of GalCom, and we're all ready to get it in gear for multiplayer. We're elite. We only take the best of the best. So if you're up to the challenge, go contact $iLk, the Orion Fleet Recruitment Officer. ( [email protected] ) He'll get you sorted out, if you come our way. Nova, over and out. Hm... Melanie and the BCRUZ MK2...... You can't beat a classic, that's true. But I'm up for the Violon. It's got great manuverability, fast HJ transit & recharge times (for a carrier), and it's damn fast for a carrier. (Tied with BCRUZ MK3 for fastest Carrier at 1.35 km/s.) It also looks just like a mini Battlecruiser MK2, as well. The manuverability and speed of a cruiser, with the abilities of a carrier. Great ship.

Yeah. I love the work he's done. I'm busy playing the game more now, than doing the Welcome Wagon stuff that I was supposed to do when BCM was already out. (I didn't pre-order, so I thought I probably wouldn't have it until later..... Hehe, even though I didn't preorder, I still have the game before some who did.....) You deserve that vacation. Now, if I were really pessimistic, I'd shorten your vacation time, so you'd have to get down on to that multiplayer patch, but I'm not going to........ Instead, I'll have you attatched to a laptop the whole time, so you can work on it from there! j/k! Once again, great job, SC!

Try running without the CD. I was running without the BCM CD, and didn't know it, until I saw it laying on my desk while I was in the middle of a game..... Never ran it with the CD after the patch.....

Hehe, I tried this in the Demo days. quote:What program do you use to edit the file. Just wondering =) It's called Notepad. If you change so much as a letter though, the game doesn't run. So, you can "look but not touch" most of the ini files. [ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Clueless Newbie Questions
Cmdr Nova replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Before placing the waypoint, change the waypoint action. Did you do that? Hm... I don't know what you're doing wrong. It works for me. -
No, no, no. Seriously, it doesn't even give you the whole planet's mission zones. It animates some of the planet's mission zones, resets, and starts over. I even got this in Centris, which is all Empirian (last time I checked); so I'm thinking that it doesn't have to do with the problem you just described. As far as I know, it wasn't designed (or it didn't work) like this in the E2 Demo. (But then again, I have no idea how much has changed since that Beta kernel.) Anyone else have this problem?

Having trouble playing the MP3s...
Cmdr Nova replied to Ancharon's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Oh, and I've found that spaces and/or symbols (like the dash "-") usualy run, but sometimes don't. Really long names also might not run, but don't know. (All of this I'm saying is from my demo experiences, and might be changed.) Try renaming the filename, or just typing in "a.mp3" "b.mp3" or so on, because you won't even need the filenames once in game. Also, do what everyone said above. See if this helps. -
For me, it doesn't quit when I observe Earth or the Moon. It starts to "place" the little boxes of zones (the tiny ones when you first go "observe"), it goes halfway, and starts over. I see half of the little boxes go down, and it clears, and does it again and again. Don't know if it has anything to do with what you said, but I'm bringing this up, just in case.
-
Got same problem. It appears completely random, because when I tried it again, it didn't crash. I doubt it's that orbital bug (at least under the reasons you listed), because I launched, flew around admiring the cool skybox (I was in Coronus, Alpha Centauri), and then I went into the Navitron, to head over to the Orion station in Centris. Clicked Centris, then *crash*. Haven't had it happen since.

Clueless Newbie Questions
Cmdr Nova replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
What about me? You guys can't have a newbie thread without me... -
Alton, Illinois; reporting as stocked. (Alton is like 10 miles from where I'm at in Missouri.) Got the game. They had like 5 boxes on the shelf. Heh, it was hard to find, especially when 2 whole rows of the game shelves had The Sims: Hot Date. And that X-Box demo looked pretty cool...... But I've got the game now. Got same problem that $ilk has. Self-desctucted, went "boom". Waited a bit, pressed F1, and what do you know; I'm in the cockpit. Also had the "leaving navitron" problem which crashed to desktop. (thread for this here)
-
I just got the game. When I got home to post on the boards, I see a TON of new threads in the General Issues forum....... I'm personally freaked. Time to set up my answering machine....... You've reached Nova, the Newbie Welcome Wagon. I've got a life right now..... Wait until Wednesday night, when my vacation starts. Leave a message after the beep if it's really important.... Seriously, though. I've prepared for this. But of course, I'll need some help. Let's do this, people! Newbies, contact me by E-Mail ( [email protected] , Private Message, or ICQ (123512799), if you've got any questions. I'd make a longer post, but I've gotta go to school tomorrow morning..... I'll probably start off the vacation tomorrow afternoon, with a welcome all newbies speech.... Yeah.

Death, Star99, Lonestar, Netherwolf, welcome aboard. I'm the Newbie Welcome Wagon in these here parts. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask me. (Private Message or E-Mail--> [email protected] ) Also, if you're interested in joining a Fleet for multiplayer and/or Role-Play, try the Orion Fleet. We're the most active fleet here, and we're looking for fresh faces. Go see $ilk ( [email protected] ) for recruitment information. And those of you who've registered before me, but were lurking in the shadows..... Then welcome back. As Newbie Welcome Wagon, I'm beginning to feel the heat, and it's only day one. Let it begin.

Got some cash (hopefully enough, if you count tax), ready to grab The Game. (I didn't get an answer if I could buy it off the shelf, so I'm assuming it's yes. Either way, I'm on my way out for some errands, and I'm heading over to EB as well! If it's not there, then it's not there. I'm (probably) patient enough to handle it...... Probably....) OOooohhh! The excitement is killin' me! And you guys are welcome about the Rebate. Spread the word! ---------- Newbie Welcome Wagon, moving to heavy assult mode...... Preparing for incoming..... And here it comes!!.. Yes! Targets locked. Let's rock and roll!
-
Oh, oh, and see this, if you haven't already! (Found it while looking for a local EB. Mail In-Rebate Offer Start: June 25, 2001 End: December 30, 2001 Value: $10.00 Mail In Rebate Form $10.00 rebate will be sent in the form of an EB Gift Check, which may be used at one of our local Electronic Boutique stores. Don't know about any other limitations to this rebate, but if I can snag the game today, I'm in for it. [ 11-20-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

My MS Sidewinder Precision Pro (digital one, but I use the game port instead of a USB port) does that same thing, except to the right. Couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong. Then, I looked at it from the Controllers thing in the Control Panel, and the twist axis was always rolling a little bit to the right the whole time. Yea, the little mechanisms that hold it in place are a little out of whack. (Springs or whatever it is; I don't really know or care.) So I've had the joystick for more than a year and a few months. I'm heavy on the joystick. It figures out eventually that I'd screw something in it. My solution was just to either turn on auto pilot when flying straight lines, or hold hte joystick the whole time, trying to keep straight. (I haven't found a way to re-calibrate one of these digital-class joysticks, so that's out of the picture....) Well, I'm gettin a new joystick for xmas this year. But I think that could clear up what's up with your joystick. The little mechanisms like I said. Ep1 isn't affected because the turning function is mapped to the Joystick's left-right (y-axis) instead of the roll (z-axis). I could be totally wrong, but that's what's happened to me. Nova, over and out. [ 11-19-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Head to "Logistix", and go into the power menu. You can change power allocation (the left and right arrows by every item), and turn things off by turing the power all the way down (the left). Just don't go around turning off your life support...... (Once, I turned off life support, went into a shuttle and took off, letting my crew die nice and slow.....) About shuttles, you can replace one by buying a Shuttle under, I think, spare parts; the trouble is, is they're $1 million a piece. After you have bought one, you can replace a destroyed/stolen one by going into Logistix->Crafts->SH->SH n (where n is the shuttle number), and there should be something that you click that says "replace" or something of the like. I think that should clear it up. Finally, if you have time, read the manual for the game. There should be an icon in the start menu for it. It should help you in the long run. Also, if you're planning on getting BCM/BCO (yes, it's been renamed to BattleCruiser Online, see Dev Diary for more), and playing online, see my site, the Orion Fleet RP Source. The Newbie Info page is listed in the menu on the left, as is an RP Basics page. I'm Nova, the Newbie Welcome Wagon, and if you've got more questions on multiplayer, fleets, the game, or whatever, drop me a line ( [email protected] ). And while I'm on the subject of fleets and info, if you're getting into multiplayer, and want to join a fleet, you might want to consider the Orion Fleet. We're the Heavy Strike Fleet of GalCom, and we kick some serious Gammulan and bunny (nickname for the Insurgents) a$$. Considered by many to be the most elite fleet in the universe, Orion Fleet may be an interesting future for you--if you think you're one of the elite and you can handle the heat! We're also the most active Fleet, too! So if you're looking for comradery, then come over our way. Contact $iLk ( [email protected] ) if you're interested, because he's the Fleet Recruitment Officer. And remember, I'm here to help. No question is too small (at least no questions related about BC) to tackle. Alright? Then I'll probably be talking to a few of you new guys reading this, soon. Nova, over and out.
