  1. quote: Menchise, I will be adding a spot for your directory As soon as you have a spot for it, send me a message and I'll put it there. I may need to change the URLs on the picture frames from time to time in case the Geocities server starts blinking again. It will still be a registered structure (I have permission for essential stuff).
  2. The Directory has been updated.
  3. New Village Update ------------------------- 1. It wasn't a dream. I visited the New Commanders Village about half an hour ago and I couldn't believe my eyes. I felt like I hadn't been to the place for years. The New Village Welcome Center has been completely redesigned and the ISS facility has doubled in size. Many kudos go to $iLk, Epsilon 5, and Jerold Keenan for being such great builders. Construction and redevelopment is proceeding well. Everyone should visit. 2. Temp Directory Due to the reconstruction of the Welcome Center (or whatever it's going to be called now) I have placed the Directory in a temporary location at the front. Directory Update coming soon. [ 08-25-2001: Message edited by: Menchise ]
  4. Hmm...For some odd reason, those 3 candidates remind me of the old Orion Clan site (before Blades became Fleet Commander).
  5. Aww. Whatever happens in the days to come, he is lucky to have met someone as caring as you. Have faith. To Aki: Get well soon.
  6. Read the site's definition of anti-social.
  7. The CD-ROM version supports 640 X 480. You can set it up in the configuration menu of the game or the setup program from DOS. I don't use it in-game though: the framerate is a bit slow in full screen mode and the graphics are only slightly better. I only use the high res setting for the cutscenes, which look even more outstanding. Anyway, I highly recommend that you give it another try (surprise surprise ). RTM first. 8. quote: That's the version I have... I still say that I don't like the controls and that the 320x200 res. is yucky Which set of controls are you using? System Shock has two sets of movement controls: one of them is mouse controlled, the other is an extended "WASD" mapping. You can use a combination of mouse and keyboard movements as well (for example, running forward using the keyboard and jumping using the mouse) and because you don't have to configure the mapping, you can change your preference on the fly. The only thing that's "missing" from the game is mouselook, which didn't exist in First Person games at the time (I think). The low resolution may have something to do with the fact that it was released in 1994. It's no more "yucky" than Doom. [ 08-23-2001: Message edited by: Menchise ]

  10. Here is the top ten list from my incomplete game review site (under construction for eight months and counting). 1. System Shock 2. Wing Commander 3. Descent 4. TIE Fighter - Collector's CD-ROM 5. Civilization II 6. Starcraft 7. Diablo 8. Quake 9. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 10. Star Control II
  11. Yippee! Now, if only I could get a decent and recent photo of myself.
  12. I installed Linux-Mandrake a few weeks ago (version 8.0). I haven't had much experience with it (I'm a beginner in the Land of Tux ) but I was very impressed by the installation program and the amazing boost it gives to my Internet connection. Netscape and the half dozen other browsers in Linux that come with Mandrake 8.0 easily tagged and even outran Internet Explorer in Windows. This is no small feat considering IE integrates itself into Windows at the system level for extra speed. As soon as I RTMM and learn how to configure the essentials I will start using it regularly. Hooray for Tux! Yay!
  13. Lion's Mane reporting. Rrraaarrr!
  14. quote: I think I should go back in AW and finish what I started... [Looking at my brand new watch] Still waiting...
  15. [Meany mood] Maybe they're just trying to earn their paychecks from Infogrames. [Meany mood off] [ 08-19-2001: Message edited by: Menchise ]
  16. The motherboard is an AOpen MX34. I checked AOpen's downloads page, but none of the updates mention NMI.
  17. 73) The entire crew gets out of bed and remembers to change clothes before going to work. 74) Guinan drinks one too many and starts lap dancing. 75) Data goes to the 2372 Olympic Games and breaks all of the world records. 76) The Enterprise maintains a full spread of photon torpedoes ready to fire off the starboard bow. 77) The Romulans finally realize that they can hail other vessels while cloaked. 78) Janeway is assimilated by the Borg. All of the drones are now addicted to caffeine.
  18. I read the FAQ again, and found another possibility that I immediately checked. It turns out that my BIOS does not support Non-Maskable Interrupt. Seems like I have no chance of hearing anything in BC3K. *sigh*
  19. quote: Someone actually realizing the "USS" means "United States Ship" and that it doesn't apply when there is no United States. In Star Trek, USS means "United Space Ship". [deactivating nitpick implant]
  20. My office now has some furniture (YAY!). Apart from the obligatory chair and desk with computer on top, I also have a self-portrait on the wall that I made in Illustrator (yep, you'll finally have a chance to see what I look like ). Some of the subtle details were lost when I changed the format to jpeg and gif, though. I also have a big version of the self-portrait in my UBB profile.
  21. More things that never happen in Star Trek. 6) Worf opens hailing frequencies and waits for a response. 7) Picard goes to the replicator and orders Coke on ice. 8) Scotty fires the entire engineering crew and replaces them with Energizer bunnies. 9) Spock is fascinated by a Rubiks Cube. 10) Troi walks up to Riker in another tight outfit and asks him if it makes her ass look fat. 11) Geordi finally gets around to fixing the flying sparks on the bridge consoles with an advanced 24th century device called a 'fuse'. 12) A shuttlecraft is launched and returns home without incident. 13) Q pops in and whispers to Picard that Doctor Crusher's breasts are fake. 14) Picard finally tells everyone that space is not the final frontier after the Enterprise goes through another time warp.
  22. When compared to most other space sims, it does have a steep learning curve. It's unusual for a space sim to have a manual that's more than 50 pages, let alone 150.
  23. Another problem with sound, this time it's an SBLive! card. I ran the Sound Setup program, selected Sound Blaster 16/AWE32, ran the test, and the program froze. The game also froze during its attempt to initialize sound. The game works when no sound device is selected, but (obviously) there is no sound. I have checked the following things: 1. The SB16 Emulation is successfully initialized at system startup (I have Win98). 2. The IRQ, DMA, and I/O values in hmiset.cfg match the values for SB16 Emulation in Control Panel. 3. SB16 Emulation is not disabled in the hardware profile. 4. No MIDI device is selected in Sound Setup (the FAQ said something about potential incompatibilities). Any ideas?
