As a Freespace fan, I was pissed at Interplay for holding onto the licence for the name, meaning Volition couldn't make a Freespace 3 (IIRC). I think it all got a bit nasty towards the end. Red Faction is a must for me when it comes out. I didn't realise there was a demo out already, must go and get it........ Goes and gets it

17) At least one Borg drone actually NOTICING that half the Voyager crew is running around a Cube, carrying bloody great phaser rifles and planting explosive charges next to all the distribution nodes..... 'If they don't perceive you as a threat, they won't attack'........bollocks. 18) A crew member finds the toilets, but can't work out how to get out of his/her uniform 19) Voyager / Enterprise coming across a ship with far superior firepower which proceeds to blow them out of existence before Picard / Janeway can open up a dialogue. 20) Someone calling Picard's / Janeway's / Kirk's bluff (hehe).

Had another look today, it's actually a T-bird 1.33GHz. The GeForce 2 is an Apollo (?), 64MB. The problem with Switzerland is that most things are a bit more pricey, which is why I'm interested as to how prices compare to systems in the US for example.
-
I was in Bern yesterday, checking out all the small PC retailers (as usual) and one of them was advertising a 1.2GB T-Bird system with 256MB RAM, 60GB hard disk, GeForce 2 for CHF 1350 (around $950). This doesn't include monitor, printer etc. Is this a decent set up and a good deal? Unlikely I'll get it as cash is always tight, but just curious nevertheless.

quote: So, as it stands now, all International shipments will be the CD-ROM, in a Tyvex sleeve, in the printed manual, shrink wrapped and stuffed in a padded envelope. Take it or leave, thats what you're getting...until the game starts being sold on European store shelves. Hmmm, no galactic map then? Oh well. While we're talking about pre-orders etc, I ordered my copy from BMT a while ago now, should I have received a confirmation email, because I never did?

OK Riga, thanks. I think I get the idea a bit better now. I see the incentive for becoming a member, but what's in it for the coorporation itself? More customers at reduced rates? Then that makes sense, as long as the coorporation (can't you think of a better description; association? society? union?) doesn't require it's members to do anything else except be customers. What about the merc and raider / assassin conflict I mentioned before? I would hate to check the job boards and see a contract out on myself, with half-a-dozen mercs waiting for me (having just checked the board themselves) once I leave the safety of a station. And Riga, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, deal?

I'm all for that, but would I have to be a member of this Coorporation to take advantage of it? It just seemed that some people were getting bogged down in an all-governing body with a set organisation and leadership, which to me is the antithesis of an independant way of life. If it boils down to a loose association whicj facilitates picking up spare parts, contracts etc, then that's fine. To me it doesn't make sense to have say mercs and raiders part of the same organisation when they would probably be out to kick $hit out of each other for a good part of the time.

Just a personal thing, but there is the potential for mercs getting contracts for certain assassins/raiders, how will such events fit into this coorporation thingy? A coorporation/guild is all well and good for traders, explorers etc, but the more aggressive indie castes could cause a lot of problems. I choose to be an assassin, because I didn't want to be controlled by a commander or chairman, whatever you want to call it. I appreciate somewhere to drop in, stock up and find work, but no-one is gonna tell me I have to abide by a code of conduct. By definition, I don't think assassins have a code of conduct. You want someone dead? Name your price, be it a troublesome raider, a holier than thou merc, or an over zealous policeman. It might not make me popular, but what assassins are popular? I hope I'm not missing the point. I just don't think I should have to follow someone elses rules to pick up contracts. [ 08-14-2001: Message edited by: Paddy Gregory ]

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: LOL!!. If you can animate the stick figure, sure, why not? That's easy. Take a small notepad, and in the bottom right-hand corner of each page draw a sequential series of stick figures performing some kind of activity (skipping and kicking a football are my favourites). Now flick the bottom right-hand corner of the pad with your thumb and watch the figures move! Now for the best part, swap over to your left thumb and repeat, the figures perform in reverse! Amazing. Can I have a job please?

Good stuff luc, you've got one hell of a project on your hands there. I actually had a quick peak at it last week, looks like you've done a fair bit of work on it since.
-
LOL! Fair enough. But what if you parked up behind a sand dune, hopped into an ATV to get a bit closer then approached on foot? This is all pure, wild speculation of course.
-
I was just wondering, suppose you found a BC parked up on a planet, and noticed the Commander was taking a stroll, what is to stop you landing your crappy cruiser and commandeering the BC? I suppose the crew might take offense, or would they? Would your race/caste automatically prevent you from doing that? Just a thought.

When I get round to buying (or building, if I've got the balls) a new PC (ie when my wife let's me) it'll definately be an AMD. A T-bird 1.2GHz is cheaper than a PIII 1 Ghz and all the benchmarks I've seen are no contest. My 3 year old Dell has been upgraded almost as much as is humanly possible, the poor old soul. Anyway, what do I use my PC for anyway? Gaming, email, internet. Oh, and I'll probaly be writing my thesis on it too (hopefully).

Great cast, great story, great script and pretty awesome special effects too along the way. Now go out and buy the video/DVD and watch it a hundred times!

The full quote is: Ave Caesar, morituri te salutant. 'Hail Caesar, they who are about to die, salute you' It's was reputed to be a gladiatorial salutation to Caesar before they beat seven bells of shit out of each other. There is only one confirmed use of it though, and the translation I got from a website about gladiators. You will remember it from the film Gladiator and I thought it was kind of appropriate.

Now I've chosen to be an assassin, I suppose I should find out what my role in the BCM universe is. Do I look for contracts or just shoot someone up and hope somebody else will pay me? Which brings me to another question how do I get cash to buy fuel, arms etc? Steal it or rely on aforementioned contract payments? How is the assassin caste different from the raider or merc class? If anyone can give me these answers or point me to a doc or manual I would be grateful.

While we're on the subject of assets, anyone got any suggestions as to what your run-of-the-mill assassin is flying nowadays?

quote:Originally posted by $iLk: Oh well... I suppose as long as the story line is good... but then again it will probably be cheesy like episode I... Amen! Maybe that's the trick: cool title, crap film or crap title, excellent film. Why did Lucas have to introduce such shite elements as the Ewoks and Jar-Jar Binks to appeal to the kids anyway, when Eps 4 and 5 appealed to EVERYONE without them? Then again, Mark Hammill was in Eps 4, 5 and 6 and you can't get much shiter than that. [ 08-07-2001: Message edited by: Paddy Gregory ]

If that was the case, none of us would have been able to install anthing. Check your own system first maybe?

Why didn't they call it 'Episode II - The Clone Wars' though? I'd always assumed that would be the title. Oh well. Also, anything with 'Clones' in the title makes me think of thousands of identical sheep weilding lightsabres and chanting 'May the Fleece be with you'
