Just so people don't get me wrong here, I have nothing against the show itself... the premise is good. I'm just afraid that it'll turn into a hokey show that pre-adolescents will watch, rather than the target audience of teens and adults. That's how I feel Andromeda works... it seems oriented towards people who prefer action and stuff, rather than strategy and diplomacy. Which, in my opinion, targets those caffeine-crazed Japanime-fan kids. That's not such a bad thing, technically, but I really like strategy and diplomacy. Much better than I like action. Not to mention that they're going to be rewriting the entire history while still having to conform to the history. Lucas didn't even pull that off well. Episode 1, while a nice flick, has so much foreshadowing it is practically sickening. quote:p.s. Dax is much hotter than 7 of 9 and Torres....something to do with dark hair and blue eyes Here's a guy who knows his women!
  2. "If you aren't a trader, then you can't play BCM!" Hmm, it could work on gullible people.
  3. Ha! I'm not touching this with a 10-foot pole.
  4. PC Gamer said that the game was good (~83%). The problem they found with it was that no matter how many political opponents they slaughtered, another one would rise against him. Which is stupid, if you think about it; if you oppress a people enough, they'd catch on that anyone who runs against the dictator gets summarily slaughtered.
  5. quote:Originally posted by Tac: The klingons engaged in genetic engineering to improve their race between the times of kirk and picard I think that was the reason given in a book Ya know, I'm a Trek-fan and all (not quite a Trekkie, but close), but what were these guys smoking when they came up with all these excuses for little indiscrepancies? I mean, seriously... For example; Romulans and Vulcans look the same because some ancient alien species spread their seed across the galaxy? I could nitpick some more, but my memory and consciousness ain't in the mood. Back to the discussion at hand, I'm not worried about Enterprise failing on graphical aspects. It could look like a freakin' 31st century ship and I couldn't care. What I was worried about is that they're getting non-talent, or low-talent, actors to play the parts of roles that could actually mean something if properly cast. Same goes for Andromeda and Earth: Final Conflict. Not saying that Kevin Sorbo is a bad actor, but he isn't much of a good one either. And what's up with those Taelons, anyway? As for Jeri Ryan not being hired for her body, I really do have to disagree. Hell, over half of my friends watched Voyager in anxious anticipation of merely being able to stare at her torso. Regarding the 'sidekick' comment, I'm not sure. I hadn't really noticed Janeway and Seven working together all that much. More often than not, Seven was just that little chewtoy that they got Chakotay to fool around with to draw interest in the show. I also noticed that as she 'regained her humanity' she became less and less like a normal person and much more, erm, estrogenesque. That's my take, anyway.
  6. Actually, I did a search on this not too long ago. This is the old, freeware 1.01D7C version. It is both a) unsupported, and not nearly as great (that's an understatement) as 2.0, or the newer BCM. And it's still great. Anyway, you can find v1.01D7C over at Home of the Underdogs, http://www.theunderdogs.org/ Actually, I'm fairly sure I'm the one who pointed it out to them... Or, you can direct-download the files from the following address: ftp://ftp.u-net.net/pub/games/battlecruiser3000/ ...which is the address I gave The Underdogs. I didn't have any problems downloading the files, either. I did have one small error, but that was because I didn't follow the instructions in the readme to the letter. (Actually, I did, but I forgot to change the directory as well as the drive letter. ) [ 07-12-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  7. Well, all of the comments aside, I knew that this was going to flop as soon as I saw the word "Enterprise" on the TV screen. Hell, they already screwed up Andromeda and Earth: Final Conflict. Trust me, Roddenbury would have made those shows much more interesting than they are. Not acting hostile to anyone who likes them, but for a true Star Trek fan (I don't like B5 either) they could have been so much better. But no, some mancy Hollywood writers had to conscript the worst actors for the job (believe me, Kevin Sorbo does NOT make a good leader; he's a renegade character). Add that to characters with the depth of tissue paper, a ship's "AI" character hired just for her body, and you get the idea. (I also felt the same way about Seven of Nine. Pointless and demeaning.) As I said before, if Roddenbury was buried in a grave, rather than floating around in orbit, he'd be turning in it.
  8. Anyone check out the potential usefulness of the Sabre Space Assault Rifle? If you fly into space and use that thing against enemy fighters, they'd better watch out. Not to mention that you're such a small target its unlikely that anything they send your way will hit you. (But, if it does hit you, game over. ) Are marines targetable for missiles? If so, does that make sense? If they are targetable that way, they'd be just about useless... but otherwise, they'd be nasty little gnats.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Does C&C tiberium sun firestrom and dark reign 1 and 2 enter in the strategy game type your talking about? those are futuristic. Dark Reign + exp. pack was the game I've played the longest time ever. I'm not sure; C&C is a real-time strategy (which is ironic, since most realtime "strategy" games are on a tactical scale). The other games he referred to are more or less turn-based strategy. Anyway, they're all good.
  10. Happened to me too, actually. It switches to FTOL when I go into A/P, regardless of HALT orders or not. I usually just land the sucker. It's easier. Either that, or I give my CC defend orders for Alderon, then I board a shuttle and get some shuttles to escort me. Then I make planetfall, deploy a drone, and order the others. I only did that once, though. (Oh, by the way, I love those drones. They're cool! ) [ 07-10-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  11. quote:Originally posted by Baloogan: 3 years! And only 32 posts! Member 141! Your point is what, exactly?
  12. Actually, I could set up a flag on the CC whether or not they took the mission (i.e. rendezvoused with the objective), which would determine if they got paid/experienced or not. Consider that former statement revoked.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: nah, too much work Oh well. At least I tried. quote:besides, if someone gives you a job and you don't want to take it, just don't do it. The script will run anyway. Yup, but then they could lose experience if they don't do it... right? Or am I misunderstanding something... which is possible. quote:What I do plan on putting in, post-BCM release of course, is conditional script branching. So, you could have an event that calls another script or a part of the same script, and bypass an entire block of processing. This way, more complex multi-branching scripts can be created. That sounds very good. Very, very good. I have a lot of IF-ELSE things set up right now, for the possible combinations of destroying three ships in a particular order. (The reason is, more or less, to simulate Raiders' morale. If you take out their leader, the other ships go beserk and attack. If you destroy one of the ships, and then the leader, the other ship will bug out with broken morale. Or you can destroy both ships, and then the leader, and finish 'em all off. The leader, naturally, is too proud (good ol' deadly sin) to flee, but the other ships don't have that advantage/disadvantage. But this was just a rant that isn't even important. )
  14. quote:It seems to me that police are only responsable for thier own home regions. If you're a Terran cop, then you shouldn't have jurisdiction in say Lanix-V, as that's Zelon country, or Polaris, or anywhere but Sol. We can fudge the boundaries of this as much as we'd like, technically. We don't have immediate influence in xenospace, of course, but as many people are misinformed, all police have to do is ask, and they can chase someone anywhere the heck they want. Into Mexico, Canada, Alaska; you name it, all they need is a simple radio transmission. (A very amusing police chase ended that way; a guy crossed the state line and slowed down, thinking he was home-free. The cops radioed, drove over, boxed him in, and arrested him. ) In my case, I've set myself for patrol throughout the Terran Quadrant (I am Terran, after all). I don't care what goes over in Lanix-V, personally, since it's not in my boundaries; and in RP, the actual reason I'm heading out there into Mandorian space is to find the TO's goddamn father. Er, sounds kinda like the movie Contact, now that I think about it. quote:What I do outside your system is none of your damn business and if you come for my scalp, (in MP) while I'm conducting 'business' in say Omicron Veda, then I'll terminate with extreme prejudice. Nothing personal...just good business.[ 07-08-2001: Message edited by: Shingen ] I never said it was our business, and Nova didn't either. But if you commit an offense in our system (or quadrant) and we see it, and then you leave, we can feel free to put out an APB on you. And then, we could pursue you if necessary. And, as I stated, restated, and rerestated earlier, cops don't have any reason to attack assassins unless they attack harmless castes. Cops don't have any reason to attack assassins unless they attack harmless castes. Cops don't have any reason to attack assassins unless they attack harmless castes. Sorry, but if I say it more times it'll help you remember. And, once more, if we don't see it it ain't illegal. Though your conscience may bother you.
  15. ...Nice way to get banned. Derek has no obligation to finish this game other than the fact that he wants to give his loyal fans a treat. And he wants to get some innocent bystanders hooked in the process. I'm the same way when it comes to my programming. If its not done, then its not done, and it won't be until it is. No one is going to tell me when to finish my things, since all of my creations have been free so far, and I'm not even obligated to allow people to DOWNLOAD them. I do out of good faith. Derek is doing the same thing. While he wants payment, it won't be done until it is done, end of story, so go act impatient somewhere else, since none of us want to hear it. And, BCM has only been in progress for about a year, maybe a year and a half. Yeesh, have you heard of BC3K 2.0 at all?
  16. quote:Originally posted by Fendi: I've got an idea....why don't we get some cheap VR glasses thingy from argos or something. I bet BCM would look and feel damn good then. No, goodness no, don't do that! You'll die of over-stimulation!!!
  17. LO freakin' L! But think about that carefully. If he waits five seconds, he might miss a traffic light when driving to the grocery store to get his food. And then he'd have to wait another 45 seconds. DAMN YOU ALL!
  18. Brainstorm ideas for the first trading guild and its logo! I'm not a trader, so I can only comment on ideas, not really make them. (Since this isn't RP, no need for Merc vs. Officer. After this, a Merc guild is prolly next, and I think I'd help with that too. ) [ 07-06-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  19. I agree. Also because it's another officer who I'm agreeing with. So, you troops need a logo! Will start a new post...

  22. Looks okay. If not, you could also try a bright yellow, which would REALLY get the point across... assuming it didn't blend into the wings... ...sigh, those logos sure are b*stards to work with.
  23. Any chance that we could have a prompt command that filtered a Y/N keypress as a true or false boolean into a flag? I.e. prompt -"message"-,-object-,-flag- code: # yadda yadda yadda !detect cc broadcast "Hi, sir." prompt "Permission to rendezvous with the GCV-Starskimmer?",cc,FLAG1 # yadda yadda yadda # and so on... !ia01tick IF FLAG2 cc THEN IF FLAG1 cc THEN broadcast "Yes sir, heading to Sirius." # ... ELSE broadcast "Understood, sir. Standing by." # ... ENDIF ENDIF # and so on... I left out the [] sections for brevity. I know, I know, I can tell you're trying to get this thing finished... but better to suggest it then to forget it permanently!
  24. I still think it'd be easier to have an add_money, dec_money, and set_money command. (SC: Hint hint. ) Not a bad method, though... I'll refer to that if the SC doesn't implement that kind of money transaction in the game.
