I don't know where you're getting the impression that I'm a bastard of a cop, Outlaw. I don't fire unless provoked. Police don't actually have an in-game obligation to attack smugglers (I think they should, though). Unless it is enforced by Derek, it remains merely as my conscious decision. So unless you're smuggling, or escorting smugglers, I have no beef with you, and never will. quote:Shingen: I'd be careful bein' a cop, 'cause there's going to be more mercs then police, and we mercs stick together! [rp]..and if one turns traitor, well we have ways of dealing with them![/rp] But all in all, a police is just another indie, so that is that! I'm not worried, naturally enough ( ). I have an obligation to attack neither mercs nor assassins. Unless they attack diplomats or do something illegal in my vicinity. And remember, folks, if I don't see it, it ain't illegal. quote:Nova: Spuzzum, I'm behind you 100%. Also, Tacops said the text that said "Police" on my logo plan was hard to read. I'm going to change the color, and I'm wondering what it should be. Teal, maybe? Or a yellow... I'm not all that good at picking colours... whenever drawing I normally just snatch one at random, see how it looks, and stick with it if I like it. quote:Riga: One thing confuses me though. An unarmed transport has shuttles. These shuttles are capable of carrying an ATV. Yet unarmed transports have no ATV's listed, but armed transports do. Are traders supposed to walk if there is no place to park our shuttle? I think one of the two types of APCs is unarmed... maybe Derek will allow traders to use those? Or, he could give a trader some semblance of weapons in the form of a LAV or Humvee something.

Bribes! LOL! I already made the conscious decision to be a 'good cop'. Which means that I won't accept bribes. Strangely enough, though, NPC Police don't attack you if you're carrying illegal goods. At least, they don't in BC3K. Anyway, I'm very certain that sometime in the future, especially when GCO comes out, there'll be lots of bribes going on. I won't be among those, though.

I found mine under a log in the middle of the Gobi desert. Um, that is to say, I haven't found a copy, myself.

I don't like liver, but some people love it. Oh, wait, that's not your point.

Also, alien military isn't limited by the bounds of specific classes (yet), so people should grab all the StormCarriers while they're still hot!

I might not be observant or something, but I didn't see an ADD_MONEY, SUBTRACT_MONEY, SET_MONEY, etc., command or anything like it inside GBS. I don't have 2.09 or anything (I found a download of old skool 1.01D7C, though), but I decided I should at least get familiar with GBS. So that when GBS-II hits the shelves I'll be scripting away as if I had given birth to it. (Considering I'm male, that's quite a feat.) Correct me if I'm wrong (please!). But if they aren't in there, might this be an eensy weensy feature request? Without it, mercenary scripts and the like would be just a bit pointless.

quote:Originally posted by Outlaw: [rp]or I'll b the next merc to b a "cop killer".[/rp] [RP]Bring it on![/RP] As long as you don't give me a reason to attack you, I won't have a reason to attack you. What actually qualifies as a reason is debatable, but it should be fairly obvious. As a merc, no matter what assignments you take, you'll be on the firing end of someone who used to be an ally. That is, unless you decide to stick with either GalCom or the Insurgents, but then you'd be better off just joining a durned fleet. Being a cop, I don't have to worry about that. So PBBBBBBBBBBBBBTH! And, like I said a while ago, I have every intention of being a 'good cop'. But, if someone makes me mad or does something against the law when I happen to be patrolling the sector, "YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!" quote:Remember, I was the one who started the "Know your role" thread and gathered all the indies to come together as family. Not exactly... for one thing, I made a conscious decision to become an indie simply because I hate the rigidity of military life. Spuzzum Background: I was a cadet in the 1st Merritt Army Cadets for a brief stint, and absolutely hated it. Also, the firearms training never appeared once. Which really P'ed me off because I'm an excellent marksman. I can "machine-gun" cans from 200 meters with a .223 rifle. Hit each one with one bullet each. Of course, with .223, the bullets go straight through the can without making 'em budge. Essentially, half of these people are indies just because they want to be indies. The vast majority of the people in the Indie Fleet DB never post, even. So you did discuss banding together, yes, but I don't think that it influenced peoples' decisions too much. No offense, of course. quote:If nobody stepped up, we wouldn't b as organized and respected as we r now. Erm, what respect? Last I heard, aramike calls indies "target practice", and I'm sure a good portion of them Insurgents and GalCommies do too. quote:Let's not make enemies of each other if were 2 work together. Uhm, they're trying to discourage that. Mercs and cops don't have anything to do with each other, so they won't cooperate. Heck, mercs and mercs shouldn't even cooperate. Members of the same guild cooperate. Members not of the same guild are in competition. Mercs hired by traders cooperate for a time, but once the contract's over... well, they're not getting paid, so what's the use of sticking around? I'm not saying we should all go to war with each other, but I am saying something crucial... even if Nova was a merc, unless he was on the same side as you he could care less what happened... more money to him, and nuts to you. Unless you guys formed a mercenary company, which is entirely possible. Anyway, it's my job to protect harmless castes. If someone needs an escort, they need only ask (of course, I'll run a standard Cargo Manifest scan... I prefer to blow up smugglers rather than escort them ). But for the other indies, they have nothing to do with me... that's why they're called independents. No grudges, though! I'm not one to hold a grudge. Let's hear Colson's input: [RP]I'm not one to hold a grudge.[/RP] Dammit, Colson, stop copying me. Oh, wait. Anyway, all things considered, I haven't had a real chance to try out the Police caste yet. Heck, you haven't had a chance to try out the merc caste yet either. RP is all fine and dandy, but when it comes to the game... well, who knows? If I don't like Police after all, you might be looking at Commander Jason-Aaron Colson, Mercenary for Hire. Or Assassin for Hire. Or Smuggler for Hire. But, don't count on it. (Wow, what a long post. I think RPing is having a negative effect on my brevity.)

Good question! I think the two are mutually exclusive, though; "trader", by definition, means someone who sells wares in exchange for other wares. "Commercial", on the other hand, refers to someone who sells wares in exchange for cold hard cash. Also, "traders" tend to trade with other species, which "commericial" tend to trade amongst their own species. At least, that's my take on the situation. As for the rest of the situation, here's my interpretation: They can make guilds. There can't be one unified trader guild or anything, but there can be as many people in a single guild as you want, just as long as there are a lot of guilds. If everyone decided to join one giant guild, that'd be a fleet, and taboo. If people band together into small independent groups, or big independent groups, it's A-OK. And, guilds can't recruit, as far as I know. People have to make that decision on their own. [RP]Anyhoo, traders should be aware that us Police will watch your backs. But, don't be smuggling nothin'. Cause if you do, I will find out and I will come hurt you. [/RP] Heh, I foresee the creation of a BCBBB. Battlecruiser Better Business Bureau.

Not exactly true. In FF1 through FF3 (the Japanese versions, not the American ones), they all used the same spell system. FF1 was the father of them all. Unfortunately, it had just about no semblance of an RPG whatsoever other than the fact that you built up your characters. FF2 was when they started gravitating towards having the characters as living breathing creatures. Also the first game where the party members actually talked. FF3 was their attempt to add a plot as well. I didn't like it, and they had a nutso character class system. FF4 was released as Final Fantasy II in North America. The first game with a true plot and character development. Also one of the greatest games of all time. It was initially supposed to be on the NES, but Nintendo contracted Square to build it on the SNES to take advantage of its special features. And they did. FF5 wasn't released in America until recently, using a weird-assed soft emulation on the Playstation. It was for the Super Famicom, Japan's version of the SNES. It had an intuitive character class system, but the goal of the game was just about a carbon copy of FF1. FF6 was released as Final Fantasy III in America. Considered to be one of the greatest roleplaying games, and if you don't have it, go get it now. FF7 was released as the same in North America, for the PSX. It took full-advantage of full-motion video and the like. Great game, which you should also play. It also introduced the materia system, a clever and intuitive way to add magical abilities to characters. FF8 was yet another one. They changed it so all of the characters were proportionately sized. FF8 was released on the same day as the Dreamcast, and it sold 400,000 units as compared to 300,000 Dreamcasts. It was also their attempt at having romance in an RPG. Didn't work out too well in my opinion, but heck, what can I say, I thought Selfie was hot. FF9 was one where they DESPERATELY tried to have characters fully fleshed out. My, Princess Garnet had a lot of, um, flesh. Uh, yeah. Actually, it's a great game, another one where if you haven't tried it you should. When they're finished, FF10 through FF12 will be released one week after each other. Don't ask me why, seems like a strange marketing ploy. Whatever makes Squaresoft happy, though. * Spuzzum is well-learned in the arts of Final Fantasy. However, he is also confused as to how if it is "Final", how in the HELL can they have 12 finals?!

Ah, roleplaying threats. Gotta love 'em. -
Well, you can't ignore the fact that Canada has one of the poorest records for film productions on the planet. Our movies blatantly suck. If they go down to the 'States, they'll at least have a chance. (Oh, and don't forget Tom Green. Canadian born, American citizen. Lots of people don't know that...) Same is true for software development. We have awesome developers up here, but they all gravitate towards the 'States because they have better access to the technology. (I'm not saying we're less technologised, because we aren't. I'm just saying that Americans are more willing to spend the big bucks on that sort of stuff. ) ...I suspect, being a programmer wannabe, I'll move to the 'States and apply for dual-citizenship at one point or another. Oh, well, nothing wrong with laughing back when they say 'aboot'.

Well, to tell the honest truth, a single ship wouldn't stand a chance against a starstation. There's just no possibility in the 666 planes of the Abyss. When you're attacking a station, you do it en masse or you'll be limping home in disgrace. In fact, a starstation should be able to take on a good five or ten ships and still not worry too much. I mean, it's a base of operations for goodness' sake! If you went down to Calgary and took a potshot at a marine in the Armed Forces base, you'd find a good fifteen primed grenades spread around you in a wide scatter pattern. And if you tried that against the U.S.' SEALs or the Green Berets, well, they'd put a bullet in your temple faster than you could pull the trigger a third time. I say that bases should be extremely tough to defeat. The only thing that could really blow up a station reasonably easily is another station, IMHO.

I still think the one about "Joe" saying "It is pronounced Zed, not Zee, Zed! A chesterfield IS a couch, it is pronounced 'a bowt', not 'a boot' [picture of a boot]! My name is Joe, and I AM CANADIAN!" The new one's a little less... well, inspirational. And you always have to remember that the only reason they're putting these commercials on is to get us drunk on high-proof alcohol.

Wow, coming from an American, that's high praise.

Well, I haven't noticed any activity, so I'll get the talking over and done with before something fun happens. [RP] 00:13 May 17, 3008 In Orbit of Lennen, Sirius UCV-Razorback, Officers' Quarters Colson didn't press the quarters' doorbell. Rather, he balled his fist and slammed it into the door. He instantly regretted that, because the door was made of a ferro-titanium alloy, and he skinned the base of his palm. While he recoiled from the pain, he attempted to keep his compositure and yelled, almost at the top of his lungs, "JANYSS!" She jumped out of bed without even realising it, gasping. A loud thump was heard at her door again, as this time, Colson smashed the door with his heel. "OPEN UP!" She had a dizzy rush and tripped, but she managed to get back on her feet, a little disoriented, and tap the button. Colson kicked at the door once more, just as it opened, and almost fell in. "Whoa..." he murmured. She yawned, with a massive frown on her face. Uh oh, he thought, I've never actually been in this kind of situation before. She looked at him expectantly. "Well?" she asked. "Uh..." he muttered. "Uh?" she mocked. His face got even redder than it was before, but this time, it was red from anger. He finally gathered up his courage. "Okay, missie, let's get one thing straight! I'M the CO of this ship. YOU are not!" Jefferson, the chief engineer, bashed the wall. "Shut up in there, huh? I just got to sleep." Colson yelled back, "Mind your own goddamn business!" Silence. Good. Rena looked at him, bored. "Are you finished?" Colson was even more furious. He grabbed her wrist. "Until you pry the commander pins out of my cold dying hands," he said carefully as he pointed at her palm, "I am in charge." He let go. "Understand? Don't think that I can't demote you, Rena, because I can. If need be, I can transfer you to another ship entirely." Rena suddenly sobered, pulling her hand back and rubbing her wrist. "You wouldn't..." "I would, and I just might for what you did right now." She looked down at the floor. "I'm sorry." Uh oh, that's not right. I expected a reaction... an argument. But that didn't happen... what the heck should I do now? Janyss looked up. "Commander?" "Yes?" he asked, slightly confused. "I'm sorry I asked Louisi to fly us towards this region." He glanced at his chronometer. "What exactly is making you so anxious to pursue this 'possibly illegal activity'?" She stayed quiet for a second before responding. "I have no idea. I wasn't thinking." He looked at her, smiled, and narrowed his eyes. "Are you trying to act soft to make me go away?" She looked at him before the tension broke into a smile. "...Yes." "Doesn't work. You don't think I was the chief of the Mars Planetary Support Police for nothing, do you?" She looked at him. "You were?" "Yeah, but... something happened." "Oh," she asked, "what was that?" He stiffened a little. "I'd rather not say." "Oh, well, that doesn't matter, I guess." She blinked slowly and yawned. He looked at her again. "You didn't answer my question." She looked at him quizzically. "What question?" "Why are you pursuing this 'potential illegal activity'?" "Oh, that question." "Yes, that question." She looked at him, a little annoyed. "I dunno... I just have this gut feeling, you know? Like something very big is going to happen." Wait a minute... "A hunch?" ...she's hiding something. "You might say that." Ask her. "Any other reasons?" "No." "You're sure?" She peered at him. "Is something wrong?" "Well, aside from the fact that we've wasted a couple hundred units of radine, no." "You aren't going to report this, are you?" "I have to." "Do you?" "Yes." She sighed. "Why?" "Because, Janyss, if I didn't report it, what's to make you learn not to do it again?" "Well, if I do it again, I'll have you coming into my quarters kicking the door and..." she looked at his hand, "skinning your palm." He looked down at it. He had basically forgotten about it. "Here," she said, "I have a bandage." She walked over to her dresser. When she opened it, she saw her SCAT-1 pistol, wrapped carefully. She glanced at it, apparently making a decision, before she pulled it out, unwrapped it, and cast the weapon back into the drawer. "Here," she said, wrapping his palm where it bled. Ow. "Thanks," he said. "But, I don't dodge the subject. There's another reason why you're doing this, isn't there?" She looked out the window. Technically, it was just a hemispherical viewscreen, but it functioned the same way. "Yeah..." she mumbled. He walked up beside her, facing the 'window', and looked at her. "What would that be?" She glanced at him. "I want to find my father." Huh? "Your father?" "Yes, my father." "Is he lost?" "Not exactly..." she murmured. "More or less, defected." Uh? "From the Terran military to the Kandorian military, and then he vanished." Kandorian... oh, hell, I forgot that she was half-Kandorian! She looks so... so... human. And feminine... no, don't think about that. "What's wrong?" she asked as he stared at her. "Oh, nothing." Yeesh, you're a commanding officer, constrain yourself, dammit. "Anyway, the last time I saw him, he blew up a diplomat ship and hightailed it through the wormhole to Polaris." He put his hand on her shoulder. "And you want to find out why?" "Yes." He walked out towards the doorway. "Sir?" she asked, "Did I say something wrong?" "Take a nap. We'll fly towards Krynon at 0200." She smiled. "Thank you, sir." "Next time, let me know when you want to go off on a wild goose... er, gander, chase." He grinned and stepped out into the hallway as the door shut behind him. [/RP] Heh, heh, sexual tension. Gotta love it. (Long post, yeah, I know. )

For all those poor ignorant souls who managed not to find BC3K 2.0 anywhere in the world. (Myself not excluded. ) Too bad that they aren't manufacturing more... I'm sure they'd get at least a few thousand sales if they made it available again.
