  1. Like I said, official as in it was played out in the RP forum, not just the creative endevour of one person who fancies himself a hero. At no point did I ever say Official BC historical data ... if you get my meaning.
  2. Orion is heavily involved in RP, so it seems only fair that certain exploits from our RP endevours be included within. Nothing like having a little history to go with the website. So long as that it's official (As in played out RP material) I think it's worth including. Opinions?
  3. Good god Im generous. Ok, everyone who didnt have an @orionfleet.com address before now has one. All you need to do to activate it is send me an email and I shall send you the details. Hop! Hop damn you!
  4. Delgard (And anyone else with the Orion Fleet) who doesnt already have an email address, send me an email requesting one and I shall set it up. As for promotions, they are comming. Be patient. Charles, I'll look into the wrapping problem for you.
  5. The Orion forum is being hosted on a different webserver than the one I got my site hosted with. I didnt install the Snitz forum, I just set it up once it was online. I'll see what I can do about getting some more detailed documentation for you.
  6. Site has been updated to a new format. Go, go now.
  7. There are some linux webservers that claim to have a fairly clever piece of kit on 'em that allows you to use .asp there. Some screwed up javascript actually converts the .asp content into viewable java - or so they say. From what I've seen of it, it doesnt look all that hot, but I've not spent too much time playing around with it. Yet. If you insist on using .asp, you need an NT or Win2K webserver for best results.
  8. Think Orion. Think hunter. Aint subtle, aint pretty but gets the job done. Now wheres my damned recruitment officer? Im a fleet commander, not the welcome wagon.
  9. quote:You Suffolk people. *lol* Crazy English...Okay Blades I totally understand...Hope you still love me! Not if you keep talkin like that I wont! Anyway, heres a token effort to tide you over for the evening. [RP] So much had happened in the last few hours, Savage was almost unable to catalogue and arrange the different disasters that had befallen the mission in chronological order. The most recent of these disasters was still firmly imbedded in his mind. The Android – Jet – had almost killed him. Very nearly squeezed the life from his broken body, ended what had been (At least, for the most part) a miserable, if briefly interesting life. No, that was harsh. He had had anything but an uninteresting life. Sure, almost everything he had ever attempted in his junior years had ended in utter failure, and true, most of the moments where he could have made something of himself had been squandered pointlessly, but there were a few shining examples of brilliance where he had distinguished himself in the field of human achievement. Luck, of course, had been the main protagonist. Both good and bad in fact. Bad. Getting slaughtered one evening with friends in Geneva and getting engaged to that creature from the black lagoon. Good. Cheating on the GalCom entrance exam and escaping the vile clutches of the beast woman from hell. Bad. Spending 12 years chained to an administrative desk in the bowels of GalCom HQ. Good. Being dishonest enough to embezzle enough of GalComs hard earned cash guarantee a life of comfort and joy. Bad. Blowing it all on beer, hookers and bribes. Bad. Getting it into his head that life as an administrator was somehow less than exciting. Bad. Growing a brain and concocting an ingenious (Although recklessly insane) plan to elevate himself to a position of real authority. Of course, it had gone on like this for a good long while. On the way there was blackmail, torture, a whole suite of accidents, broken hearts and grudges, but despite everything, there was also a sense of real achievement, friendship and loyalty – things accidently aquired through dumb luck than real ability. Still, in latter years he had begun to take things more seriously. Make the effort to live up to the expectations of his peers, improve himself in his endevours – become a man. Being promoted to Fleet Commander has a habit of doing that too you, whether you liked it or not. It looked like Karl Savage had grown up after all, even if it had taken the better part of his 45 years. “You sure that containment field will hold him?” said Savage to the merc guarding the brig. “Sure im sure, sir. Even if he managed to bend those bars, the field you had me erect would fry every circuit in his body if he came into contact with it. Nothing short of a complete power failure would let that field down.” Savage nodded. “Good. Just to be sure, I want a 24 hour watch on him. You know, just in case.” The merc nodded and Savage turned to leave. His next destination was the bridge. He wanted to get up there and see how Reynolds was getting on with decoding the datatab that Akuma had mysteriously obtained. He hoped that his chief of communications had something for him, even if it was just enough to confirm (Or favourably support) his theory as to the identity of the ‘Mystery Man’. He hadn’t bothered to order yet another ship wide search for another intruder – the chaos it had caused last time almost sparked off a mutiny, and he was getting tired of worrying about stowaways. Finding and identifying both Jet and Insurgent Commander Chavik on board was more than enough for one day. He didn’t care any more about other outsiders. Chances were there were more of them lurking about somewhere. It was probably less likely that there weren’t any more hidden somewhere onboard ship. Either way, he was no longer bothered. He just reminded himself to look surprised next time one cropped up from the woodwork. “Status on the tab, Mr Reynolds?” said Savage as he entered the bridge. Reynolds looked up from his station. “Getting there, sir. The encryption is incredible, extremely difficult to understand, but after you decipher a few common elements, rather simple to unlock.” Figures. “That’s the idea.” Said Savage. “Our mystery guest wanted me to read it, after all, but only wanted a handful of people capable of decoding it.” Reynolds frowned. “If they wanted you to read it, why make the code so difficult to decipher?” Savage smirked. “The code itself is the message, Reynolds, not the data contained within. He’s telling me who he is without making it obvious. Very clever.” And very, very confusing. Being a fleet commander gives you certain access to information that the everyday, run of the mill GalCom officer isn’t privy too. Being a sneaky bastard Fleet Commander with a penchant for sneakiness, double dealing and a handly ability to push the right peoples buttons allows you access to certain information that even TacOps commanders are not privy too. As such, he knew a thing or two about a thing or two. One of those things being the make up of this code, and the fact that only two people were known by the powers that be to be able to write a message in it. But that was the problem. One of them was their target, Insurgent Commander Akira, and the other was a dead man. “Very curious.” Savage walked to the edge of the bridge, and turned into the McKendricks plush ready room. Two guards stood aside as the fleet commander walked in, never taking their eyes off the man that they guarded. “I was wondering when you were going to make an appearance.” Said the man in front of him. Savage smiled. “It’s been a long day.” A moment passed, then Savage gestured to the guards either side of him. Reluctantly, they lowered their weapons and stepped out and onto the bridge, leaving the two men alone. “Feeling brave?” asked the man. Savage shrugged. “Fealing nauseous. Aside from that, im not too sure of anything at the moment.” Savage stepped around the centre table, closing on his companion. “Except one thing.” He added. The man folder his arms and raised an eyebrow. “Oh?” Savage stopped, leaned down on the table with his palms stretched out and started into the mans face. “And what would that be?” asked Insurgent Commander Chavik. Savage smiled. “You’re help.” [/RP] Over to you Chav. You wanna volunteer some toys to bring to the party? [ 05-30-2001: Message edited by: Blades ]
  10. Sorry gang, but Im sure you can appreciate how busy I am right now. I got more on my plate than a fat man at an 'All You Can Eat' buffet. I'll be doing a major post as and when I get a spare hour or two to do so.
  11. Think of it this way - The more there are of them, the less likely they will turn tail and run from any GalCom fleet. This means more bigger servings of bunny stew. Personally, Menchise is exactly where I want him. Now, if only we could get Aramike to transfer to Destiny ...
  12. Just let me define casual before you knock Orion off that list of yours. Casual commanders are those that register, post a couple of times then dissapear for long periods of time without warning and may or may not report in for role call, do the tasks handed out to them or participate in any meaningful manner on the forum. Commanders that post frequently here and on the Orion forum, engage in debates with fellow fleet members and participate in the descision making process are not casual.

  14. Theres no fleet flaming going on. What you see here is cheerful banter of the sort that all of us who have been part of this community for the last few years expect. You havent seen any outright derogitory remarks made by anyone with fleet association, more like the sort of tongue in cheek mud slinging that you would see in any arena. Orion and the Insurgency have a special relationship and we conduct our business in this manner. Thats why we are the two most popular fleets. We have history together, and if you have been paying attention to the boards these last few months (Years?) you'd understand that. Think hard commander.
  15. Yup, think Mike just about covered it. Last point - Orion doesnt want whiners, dictators (Only one allowed) or problamatic commanders that have issues with observing the chain of command and pulling their weight. Sure, Im kinda strict on the behaviour of my people, and I do ask a lot of them but it's done for a good reason. Fellowship. We work hard, we play hard. You want to be proud of your contributions, you have to make them. Simple as.
  16. Nice and diplomatic James. Point of interest to newbies/lurkers considering joining Orion. We're a working fleet, which means each and every member is expected to do his bit when it is required of him. We're not a register and take it easy kinda fleet. If you dont make an effort (Including forum participation here and at HQ) or contribute to the fleet in other (required) ways, you'll be booted from the fleet DB and returned to the murky depths from wence you came. In short - casual gamers need not apply.
  17. Trek is fun. Leave it alone. And dont start on Voyager or you'll have Hamblin to contend with. Scott Bakula? Dear god, it's a Quantum Leap backwards for the genre.
  18. It's not that hard to believe as it goes. I used to spend far more time than was healthy in various IRC chat rooms, and have come accross this sort of reprehensible behaviour a couple of times. Two that stand out was a real sad geek who made up a female alter-ego and had a relationship with her. For a good while, most of the regular crew were taken in, but after some time, a few of us got suspiscious. We investigated some more, and eventually discovered the truth. Boy, we pissed on him for that one. The most recent one happened a while ago with a guy who used to come on and pretend to be a woman. He used to flirt with the guys, flirt with the gals, be quite a talkative and cheery person, but there was always somthing funny about 'her'. Some time later, a couple of pictures of her was released. One was a soft light photo that was passable, but the other looked very wrong indeed. This second photo not only made her butt ugly, but displayed a few tell tell signs of being a little too 'manly'. Turns out, this guy was into drag, and posed in this particular photo in his get up. Even though it was a distance shot, after some photoshop investigation, we concluded that the 'dude' had himself a big assed adams apple that 'she' really shouldnt have. It gets worse. A lot of people we're really friendly with 'it' by this point, myself included to acertain extent. And no, I was never 'that' friendly with 'it'. Way too old for my tatstes. Anyway, this person had developed an elaborate history for 'itself', including a fiance that was a helicopter pilot who worked out on rigs quite a lot, as well as a son who also used to come into chat from time to time. Sadly for 'it', some of us who were more outspoken (Not me I hasten to add - even though I dont agree with this sort of thing, I know that some people need these fantasy lives to delevope relationships with other people and Im not one to judge) started making accusations. What clinched it for me was when I discovered that a chat person that had claimed to have met this person in the real world confessed to his girlfriend of the time (Someone I *ahem* was introduced to previously) that it had all been made up to stop people questioning the validity of these photos. Eventually, 'it' must have got tired of this, or perhaps knew that the charade was coming to and end. 'It' supposedly got very depressed by the hurtful things that some of those people were saying, and took an overdose one night. The devestated boyfriend managed to navigate himself onto the IRC server and ICQ and send people on 'its' contact list the message that 'it' had killed itself. Word travelled fast, and the less insightful people were taken in by this latest twist. What followed was lots of emails, heart felt words of kindness etc that you would expect from friends. A lot of us, however, didnt believe it. We had many reasons, too many to mention here, but suffice to say, we needed to investigate further. The details of the death we got from this boyfriend (Aka persona no.3) we're contradictory in the least. Things such as hospital details, phone numbers etc didnt match up with every report. Eventually, a good friend of mine that was also a friend of 'its' phoned up the devestated boyfriend to talk to him about it. Well, there was no further doubt left when I found out that the devestated boyfriend persona was hitting on her. I mean, a bereved man doesnt talk dirty to a friend of his dead fiances, now does he? Point is, the majority of people who use chat rooms are not freaks like this. There are some people out there (And Im sure many people here can relate to it) that use these chat rooms to boost their self confidence, or make relationships with people they normally couldnt do in the real world. There are some, however, as the above example and the thread the SC pointed out that use it to hurt and manipulate people in the worst possible way. They are the twisted ones. Message of the day : Parents, keep your kids out of chat rooms.
